[Q] Bluetooth disconnects on WiFi connect - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
when I ride my car, I usually turn on the car mode, WiFi and Bluetooth. I start at home where I am connected to my WiFi and connect the Bluetooth audio. Everywhere works fine.
But once I reach my destination where they also have WiFi the phone tries to connect to it. This causes the Bluetooth to shut down completely and only a reboot of the phone makes it possible to re-activate it.
I just started to experience this issue. Is it possibly related to the latest Android update? Does anyone know a fix?
Thank you!

Change the Wi-Fi band.
Go to Wi-Fi, click 3 dots menu, select Advanced and change the frequency band at 2.4ghz.

Hi, Thank you very much for your recommendation. The situation has improved since but I have had another two disconnects:
- once Bluetooth reconnected itself
- the second time the situation was again as described above
Any further ideas?

I'm still facing the issue in irregular patterns. Are there other possibilities than changing the WiFi band?

Try other radio maybe.
.48 seems to work fine for many users

Hi, thank you!
I just tried to find an option where to change the radio but couldn't find it. Could you please tell me where it is?
However, I discovered the "scanning always available". Does this drain the battery? If not, I could turn off WiFi in my car and always put this option instead. The only reason why I turn on WiFi in the car is to improve the GPS location and I usually turn it off cause it drains the battery when I am on campus and it keeps reconnecting to several WiFis.

Here are the radios.

Just flash through custom recovery.
And for GPS you shouldn't need Wi-Fi or other data.
Mine locks in seconds, the moment I activate the navigation.

Connect to WiFi network timeout?

Hello. I'm sure that this must have been discussed but I cannot find the answer using search. As is surely normal, I use WiFi within the home and GPRS when there is no WiFi available. If WiFi is connected and I go out for a short while, then when I get back in a WiFi area, the WiFi is still connected. However, if I go away for a long time, and GPRS is used for perhaps a regular weather update, then the WiFi disconnects and has to be manually reconnected upon return to home. This leads to GPRS being used in a WiFi area unnecessarily if you forget to re-connect WiFi. Is there a WiFi connection timeout value or any other setting that can be changed? My old TyTN II did not have this problem. Thanks.
Try this CAB
It disable disconnecting WiFi when phone is in sleep mode and with this phone automaticly connects to WiFi when Leo will be in range.
Thanks Franq_23_pl. I think that the CAB just stops WiFi disconnecting when the device is in sleep mode. That will just drain the battery, surely? My old TyTN used to disable WiFi when in sleep mode, but as soon as you switched it on again, WiFi would be enabled and it would connect if in range. The problem with my HD2/Leo is that if I am away from my WiFi for some considerable time (ie, most of the day), then when I get back home and switch the device on, WiFi is disabled, and I have to manually toggle in on. So my question is..... What are the circumstances that cause WiFi to disable itself, and Is there some way of stopping it happening?
OIC now. I think you having some battery saving app and this app turning off WiFi when iz not used. What apps or registry mods you have installed on Leo?
You have the same behavior after hard reset?
My Leo don't disable WiFi. When i go outside (for ex to work) and back after few hours my Leo connecting to my home wireless network automaticly.
I remember, that i had the same problem like you and it was caused by app, which had duty to save battery.

Heroine loses Wifi when screen off

Hello everyone
I am seeing a strange behaviour of heroine rom, when the screen is turned off the phone loses the wifi connection. I have tried to set it to never switch off wifi but it seems ineffective. I was wondering if I could fiddle some other settings to sort the problem out.
If I reflash with the same rom, will I lose all the installed apps/phone numbers, google apps?
I am currently not in 3G nor gprs coverage so I can only use wifi.
thanks
Configuration
Hi,
I had that rom on my hero and works fine, i remeber that there is a configuration in setting of WIFI when you can change a wifi sleep policy, try it
hello
it is already set to keep wifi always on
I tried to install an app to keep wifi on, called wi-fi keep alive. Unfortunately it does not really work.
The phone disconnects after the screen goes off, in around 2-5 min maximum.
I tried all the workaround, including the ping option, but it is simply ineffective.
any suggestion? idea? config file to edit?

[Q] Wifi keeps reconnecting

My S4 keeps reconnecting to my wifi for some reason. I get the toast notification saying "Connected to <SSID>" that will sometimes pop up every 5-30 seconds, but it never goes more than 30 minutes without doing it. My router is an Asus RT-AC66U. I've tried forcing 2.4Ghz only, 5Ghz only, changing the preamble (short, long, auto), changing the channel (manually specifying each channel, and also tried auto), and even manually assigning an IP address on the phone. None of these things help.
I have "check for internet service" under the advanced wifi options disabled, and also have it set to keep wifi on during sleep.
The phone shows Very Good signal quality. Using wifi analyzer shows a signal strength of between -45 to -68 db, depending on what room I'm in, so that's definitely not the issue. It even does it sitting in the same room as the router. No other devices have an issue, including my roommate's S3.
I can fix it by turning off wifi power save mode (*#0011#), but then my phone heats up quite a bit whenever I'm using it, and my battery drains at 10%/hour even when I'm not connected to wifi. So that's not really a solution.
Is there any other fix for this? It's a bit ridiculous. I'll load a webpage and it'll interrupt halfway through when it re-connects to wifi. Since it keeps reconnecting to wifi, it causes all the phone's connections to be re-initiated, and also seems to trigger Google Services to update the phone's location. This results in Google Services (NetworkLocationLocator) holding a wakelock for 1/3 of the time.
So it seems the problem was IPv6, specifically IPv6 that autoconfigures. All the wifi networks I typically use are dual stack IPv4/IPv6. What I'm guessing happens is that the phone doesn't wake up for some of the IPv6 broadcasts, and then the phone reconnects to fix this once it realizes it's out of sync. Turning off power save mode means it gets all these packets and doesn't have to reconnect.
So I fixed it by having Tasker disable IPv6 on wifi whenever it connects to a wifi network (it's re-enabled if you disable wifi or reboot). Run this as root:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/disable_ipv6
I wonder if this is just a bug in the chipset, or if it's a driver issue that can be fixed in a later update.
I had the exact same issue with mine (same router) and solved it by disabling WMM APSD in the router settings. Wireless>professional tab>5GHz drop down box>Enable WMM APSD>Disable.
A guy in the other GS4 Q&A forum gave me this solution and I haven't had an issue with it since.
I have this same issue... so when my Wi-Fi is dropping like that, I disable the Wi-Fi power save mode by dialing *#0011# then pushing the menu button and selecting the Wi-Fi option from the pop-up, the psm button is there. Fixes it every time, doesn't stick thru a reboot tho.

Hello, I'm having the same problem but I'm new to Tasker and don't know where to put that command. Would you mind showing me how to implement it please? Thanks.
Edit: Nevermind, I think I figured it out.
S4 will not store setwork
I'm running SACS Custom 7.1 with Faux kernal, and since I update to 7.1 from v7, my phone doesn't save any wifi profiles I connect to. Another thing I've noticed is no image shows up when recieving a call, so I have no idea who is calling. I got a 3rd party caller id from the market to fix that, but still a strange issue.
I am experianced with phones, but haven't posed enough here to post in SACs page, so any ideas would be helpful.
I tried looking at settings from 3minit or XPOSED, but nothing has changed since V7, so I'm wondering where to look.
The wifi profile shows up in data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf, but only the one I am connected to at the time. If i disconnect and reconnect I need to re-enter the password.
Not important but annoying.
Thanks for your help in advance, you guys are awesome!

Wifi issue is faux kernel flash a different kernel. A module from xpose is the culprit sorry I forgot which one was it. To solve all your problems just do a clean install of v7.1 and when doing that make sure you click stock kernel or flash a preferred kernel. I dont use xpose so I dont have that problem so its your choice if you want to use it just read like 10 pages from the thread to find your answer.

I have to do this same thing and it works for me perfectly. A little bit of a hassle after reboots, but it works. I sent this to Samsung and they've opened a ticket on it (reportedly) to be addressed as they've had a lot of complaints about WiFi areas with multiple Access Points.

Le Pro Bluetooth Issue?

Recently noticing the Bluetooth
Doesn't turn on from the quick settings
Or the Bluetooth Settings.
Anyone else experience this?
Any known fixes or advice?
No problem here, and I have been using it almost every day for about a month

yah, no problem here either. I guess you already tried rebooting the device....
I have had issues like that with BT, reboot resolved the issue. Seems like the software on this phone is not good at handling sustained connections, WiFi or Bluetooth. I see wifi also being disconnected and re-connected quite often.

My X727 shipped with 18s and got the two OTAs to 20s recently. Never had any problems with Wifi or BT connections - music streaming in car and phone calls. Might depend on how your AP environment is set up since I've never noticed issues with sustained connections.
Sometimes I would notice the cellular data connection drop out and require restart, but nothing with Wifi or BT.

Thank you everyone for your input..
A reboot usually fixes this..
But really shouldn't have to resort to that every time
I've had issues with the BT when going from my car to BT headphones, where it will connect for phone audio but not media audio. Turning BT of then back on again "fixes" it, but it's a minor hassle. When I first updated to 20s, BT wouldn't turn on, but a reboot corrected that and I hadn't had any issues with toggling BT on and off since.

This happened once, reboot solved the issue. I used to use bluetooth a lot, but rarely now as my current car HU doesn't have BT. Didn't have any problems when I used it a lot.
I've had the same issue for the past couple weeks. It only seems to have this issue with the cars BT. It may be a minor annoyance, but it can cause some big issues seeing as how messing with your phone can get you pulled over now.
I have this issue. I use Bluetooth in my cars and Android wear. I never notice an issue in the car. But sometimes I'll notice on my android wear watch that's it's disconnected from the phone. I'll check the phone and Bluetooth is off and won't turn on. A reboot usually fixes it. Odd.
Same issue here

This seemed to go away for me when I turned off all of the aggressive memory management features.
The updates seem to have fixed this though..
I can't turn on Bluetooth from the quick access menu or even if its on.. its doesn't show on the quick access menu..
Anyone notice that lately?
Seems to be not working even if you turn off and try to turn on from the quick access menu. I am on 21s.

The following fixed it for me:
Dial *#*#46360000#*#* and uncheck 'Enable background resource control'.
Reboot
Scanning Settings
I think y'all should try disabling Bluetooth Scanning in Location Settings. It is a problem in the stock ROM as well as LineageOS ROM(which I am currently using).
Just try disabling Bluetooth Scanning in Location Settings (three dot menu)..... I'm sure it'll help.

Those posts were made over a year ago. They figured it out already.
It's 2018 and I have the same issue. What do I do?:crying:

Wi-fi and Bluetooth turn on and off randomly

Hey
I am guessing this is a software/app/os issue, but it is noticeable on the LG V20 thanks to the second screen.
Recently I have noticed that wifi and bt turn on while the main screen is off. When I turn the screen on, they both turn off like naughty school kids caught smoking. This is obviously when I am not using wifi or bt.
I have scoured the settings looking for something that can stop this from happening, but nothing so far. Wifi has a setting where it says, "keep wifi on while in standby", with three options, I have tried all three of them, and nothing is preventing this from happening.
I enjoy controlling these functions, and get anxious when it happens automatically. Anyone with advice?
I think I have found the solution. I had the app Firechat installed which uses Bluetooth and WiFi to transmit data to other devices. I have uninstalled it now and it seems that WiFi and bt have stopped turning on automatically.

Anyone else? My wifi will shut off after about 30 seconds and I have those same settings set to keep on. I even tried after a factory reset and still having this issue.
I have the same problem,if the Bluetooth is on I have high latency wifi and conectivity loss, this only fix if I power off the bluetooth

I am also running into this issue. The only way I can get my wifi to connect to my home router is by restarting my phone. Otherwise the rest of the time, I see a message stating that my wifi is disconnected, when it clearly was not, it was even showing me nearby routers that I could connect to, but not my own router, even when i tried to add my router manually, it could not connect. I am having the same issue with Bluetooth connections. My laptop can sometimes see my phones Bluetooth, but my car can't find it at all. I'm on AT&T H910, running on DESOLATION 7.1.2
