tapped menu, select input, inputted 1, ok
waited as well as tapped menu, select back
it doesn't go anywhere or changes menu.
Any ideas?

What firmware, modem, rom are you using? Most likely is the modem causing it.
I bought it from eBay but i'm sure those things have not been tampered with.
It is locked onto UK's three mobile network.
It's on I9505XXUBMEA

The modem doesn't allow to access the service menu. You need XXUAME2 or older modem to get access to service menu.
This thread has all modems available to download.
As for the phone being carrier-locked, I'm not sure how to solve that. All phone sold in my country are unlocked.
so, i cant unlock the phone via the servicemode then?
and since it's carrier locked, i can't downgrade the modem? or can i?

You can downgrade the modem. This can be done by downloading modem from the thread I told you, and flashing it through Odin.
Edit: Be sure to follow the instructions on how to properly flash modem.
changing the modem will not affect the carrier lock will it?
I'm worried I might not be able to use any sim after changing the modem XD

If you're scared, you can always do a full system backup using custom recovery. If any problem occurs, just restore the backup.
Also, I just realized i can't find the settings to enable debugging on my S4
Can i still use customer recovery, my phone's not rooted and it boots with the three mobile logo

Custom recovery does NOT need root. It replaces the stock recovery of the phone. Same goes for modem.
Did you have developer options at your settings? If not, go to settings>about device. Press the 'Build Number' 7 or 8 times. (Cannot remember exactly how many times). The developer option will then be available.
yeah, just figured it out. ok i'm going to try it now using ME2 like you said... hopefully nothing bad happens

I have used the search function, but fear is killing me.
wherever I go, I find that the flashing process requires that the phone is unlocked.
can you please let me know how to go about it?
I downloaded the 02 modem firmware now. and Odin, but can't go any further
Hello, sorry to bring back this thread, but I have a weird problem.
I tried every possibility and variants of this unlock method (*#0011#) but nothing changes. It still asks for the network code.
I flashed a ME2 modem, and same thing ..
Is there anything I missed ?

That's if you're on the stock 4.4.2. You can Odin the MDL files and root and make sure to freeze the updater apps while you unlock, and then flash back to CM.

Jesus. you don't want to flash the 4.4.2 Odin package if you're on mdl. Then you can't custom rom your phone. stay on a touchwiz rom and use the region lockaway App and it will unlock your phone. Worked for my mdl phone.

In reply to you and @nadirghazi
If you want to unlock it on 4.4.2 then use the downgrade method, root, and use the "possible unlock for MK2" thread. The OP in this thread meant to put 4.2.2, which is what MDL is, so those instructions don't work.

Another noob here. Is there any way to keep all of your phone data and settings when you downgrade?
My Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337) is on NC1, and I already downgraded once to root it (and re upgraded afterwards). It's quite troublesome to redownload all of my apps and change all of my settings again, so I'd like to know if it's avoidable.
Also if someone could link me to the baseband files, that would be great.
can also try this method

Please help, I am on i337 and can get to Debug screen but there is no 6th option.... I am on tmobile with a poopie phone and want to use my old s4 but cannot unlock it and i have NOOO idea how to root.
I have the galaxy s4, locked with rogers, i have a bell sim and want to unlock.. how can i? Ive rooted previously then updated when i forgot and cant seem to unroot but i have no root features. Phone still says custom. Thanks
I find whole forums and also on Google to unlock my galaxy s3 i9300 running on 4.3 but unfortunately there was no solution. All solutions are for 4.1.1 which are very old. Then I did it my self and of course for free. Here are the steps.
1. First root your device by chain fire auto root and insert a sim card.
2. Download twrp manager from play store, open twrp manager and install recovery.
3. Download attached apk file and install it.
4. Open perka's file stash, tap on s3 then modems and modems cwm.
5. Tap 4.3 and download modem_xxugna8.
6. After download go to previously downloaded twrp manager then select install > add zip > select downloaded modem from perka's file tash named folder and flash it. After boot up you should be unlocked.
Don't forget to hit Thanks.

At first on step 4 open parkas file stash tap kernel > kernel_stock> 4.1.2 then download lk6 kernel and flash via odin. After flash again open parka and tap modems> modems_cwm > 4.1.2> then download lk3 modem and flash it via recovery. After this your baseband should be shown as unknown on about phone. Then follow the whole process from 1st from above. Though you're on na8 you should flash na8 frok perka's file because its unlocked.
It doesn't work for me too ,when I tried to install kernel 4.1.2 but when I install it the phone doesn't load the room ( I had 4.3 )

Hi there
Recently I encountered some issues with my Note 3. google playstore did not allow me to sign in and no notifications appeared on my screen (the phone has root, and TWRP). I decided to try out CM11, downloaded it from the original site along with gapps on my internal sd. i wiped data cache .. the usual and installed the two files except they did not do anything. I download the custom recovery 1.3gb file using odin. booted up and noticed that my service is not working. i called my service provider to see if the problem was on their end but wasnt. i factory reset the phone via settings... same problem. i went into recovery wiped data and cache booted up and same issue.
IMEI= has not been blacklisted
I occasionally do see bars appear however no change in service status
I tried flashing TWRP again and installing CM11 except i get a "failed" message "unable to mount"
I sure hope I did not kill this phone
any idea how do i get service back on my phone? everything else on the phone works besides service provider....
Thank you very much!!
Not sure if this means anything ...
When you had it working with a Touchwiz Rom it could have been your APN settings that were not allowing you to get signal.
If I were you I would start fresh and download the factory image from sammobile and flash it again using Odin. We can start troubleshooting from there.
Did you use this tutorial to get a custom recovery installed? Its really straightforward and I recommend this method over all others.

2. Check that you are NOT downgrading your bootloader.
EDIT: You are downgrading your bootloader, or else you wouldn't get the aboot fused 2 > binary 2 error.
You will have to flash stock, go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=26660
Flash that in AP of Odin. Then you will be reverted back to stock.

You might have to set up your APN settings after you have done that. You can google the APN settings for your carrier and then put them in manually by going Settings > Connections > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

Seeing all that you've tried, the one thing i don't see tried is the sim card. Have you tried your sim in another phone, or another known good sim in yours? The fact it gets signal but doesn't register with the network makes me think the sim had somehow gotten corrupted.

hello guys
I have galaxy s4 sph-L720
my
and try to unlock it the sim
so in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415587
I found the way to unlock it
but the problem is
one of the steps is Require MSL code to complete the steps and get ur phone unlocked
the writer said : you can get your MSL by terminal emulator and write this ( getprop ril.MSL ) then you should get MSL
but the problem is I try the same thing but not working !!!!! I try the alogcat app and same thing cannot get My MSL
pleeeeeese some one help out with ths problem pleeeeez
It says that you might be asked for your MSL code. If you try the steps and it doesn't ask you for your MSL code then it doesn't matter. And you can continue unlocking the phone.
Try dialing ##DATA#. Click edit. Enter any wrong MSL and hit OK. Should tell you wrong. Back out and then do the getprop command. This time should work.
