So I recently got this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428254. I got the DEODEX version, and when I try to turn wifi on, it just switches back to off. I tried clicking the WiFi fix links in the thread, but they wouldn't work. What do I do? I have a SGH-I337, by the way.

What can you do?
For one thing you can flash a custom rom which is a finished product.
But if you want to fool around with Google Edition roms you can try this little trick,
reboot the phone and toggle the wifi on and off 3 or 4 times waiting about 10 seconds
between toggling. For some people this little trick temporarily fixed the wifi issue.

Would you happen to know of any Google Edition ROMS that are trustworthy for the GS4 that are compatible with Safestrap?

I am assuming that you have never done an OTA and updated to the official
MF3 4.3 firmware yet, if you have done an OTA MF3 update then ignore this post.
There are no google edition 4.3 roms which are safestrap compatible as of yet.
So far only the Jellybean Touchwiz 4.2.2 custom roms are compatible with it.
The only reason that your phone is working with the google edition rom
is because it's based on version 4.2.2 rom.
None of the developers are going to create a full featured custom google
edition 4.2.2 rom since the official 4.3 firmware is available.
However if you want to try a full featured Touchwiz Jellybean custom rom
which I would highly suggest.
This custom rom is based on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Touchwiz Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware.
It's called "Darthstalker v9" and it's really excellent.
Here is the link to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426081

Give it a try, good luck! .

MF3 4.3 firmware? I thought MF3 was 4.2.2, and 4.3 is MFJ or something like that. But I am on MF3, 4.2.2, I have Safestrap, and I can install ROM's. So should I still check out your suggestion?

It will explain it all to you in great detail, the thread also has links where you can

Currently there are only three full featured custom roms which are fully compatible with MF3.
Darthstalker v9 is one of them and it was very recently updated.
You will see the links to them on the very first post.
Good luck!

Edit: Fixed it, forgot to flash kernel modules, was looking at the wrong thread. :/

Hi, you said you forgot to flash the kernel modules to get wifi working with MF3, but when you did, wifi was working correctly. I cant FOR THE LIFE of me figure out how to get my wifi working. I flashed the "jflteatt-MF3-modules.zip" file from Hashcode's safestrap forum, but cannot get it to work. Ive also wiped everything and tried flashing the rom and module again, but no luck. Do you have links or can you tell me which kernel I should be flashing please? I really love Darthstalker and this is the only thing holding me back..
EDIT: Nevermind... Thank you anyway.. I re-downloaded the module and re-did the whole flashing process. Its working now.. Weird. Ive done the same thing atleast 5 times.. Oh Well.. Im happy now! :victory:

I didn't see anyone mention it so i'll tell you - this is a simple fix.
If you are running MF3 and are using this GPE Rom 4.2.2 via SafeStrap, you need to simply flash the kernel for MF3 AFTER you've flashed the GPE Rom.
You can A.) Wipe your current Rom-Slot, flash the ROM itself then immediately flash the kernel provided at (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448925) ---> Just above "Manually remove SafeStrap"
Or you can B.) Just flash the kernel zip package over the same Rom-Slot you have the Google Play Edition Rom 4.2.2 on.
As title, looking for the 4.3 touchwiz based rom's that work with the old bootloader.
Almost all custom roms you can flash from recovery won't update your bootloader. I recommend omega.
Read OP of any rom and you will sure notice that the bootloader will remain untouched after flashing.

There will be no issues like lack of sound, wifi etc?
Been using GE roms since the new bootloader was introduced but I have read posts from users having problems flashing new firmware with old bootloader, or is that just for the official roms?
As long as you have the latest modem (MJ5) there won't be any issues.

I'm already using that modem so might just give it a try.
Thanks for the help.
Be sure to have the latest philz touch and you're good to go!
Flashed Omega V19, all working.
Definitely not as smooth as the GE roms but it 's not bad, also it's nice to have the Samsung Camera back again.
Also give echoe rom ago, I'm on old bootloader and mk9 modem, working much better than 4.2.2 stock

Thanks, might give that a try as Omega just started rebooting randomly..
Will try another kernel, if that doesn't fix it then ill try echoe.
All custom roms since 4.3 gave me random reboots once every couple of days.
I'm currently running omega v19 and the uptime is 48h.
Well I got Omega stable with KT kernel, but found the lag a bit annoying so tried echoe rom anyway.
Sadly the lag is much the same, I guess it's a feature of touchwiz and nothing can be done about it.
Why havent Samsung fixed this? it's almost the same as the original roms that phone shipped with.
Hi there,
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 with official Samsung 4.3 Stock ROM from a different country which I had flashed using ODIN a while ago. I already have my knox counter tripped to 0x1 because I had also installed custom recovery and rooted.
Would I be able to flash CM11 (Android Version 4.4) on to this and then if I don't like it or want to return back to this exact version I have now by a Nandroid backup, could I?
I have searched around and can't seem to find the answer and want to get rid of Touchwiz (like nearly everyone else)
Baseband Version: i9505XXUEMK8
Build Number: JSS15J. I9505XXUEMK8
Thank you in advance

Yes you can easily return back to the saved nandroid backup you have in recovery
I first started on cm11 before picking a daily ROM that was suitable for me

Apparently once you update to 4.4.2 you can't downgrade to 4.3 but IMHO why you would want to go back is beyond me ? Mine was on Knox after 4.3 ota but took the plunge & glad I did & wouldn't need to go back to an outdated OS. My baseband has stayed mk9 even after trying a few ROMs & love the smoothness of Google edition ROMs over cm11
I would suggest making the move over to kk & trying a few ROMs out there.

I have been on CM10.1 before and the only reason I went back to Touchwiz was because there was bugs with it and that's the same reason I might want to go back if I flash it now so I just want to be sure
I was thinking that if I update and my baseband/build number stay the same then I might be able to downgrade again if I wanted to later?
Absolutely hate Touchwiz right now but everything works too

I wouldn't like to say that if baseband stays same that you could go back for sure ? Touchwiz is just too bloated IMO that's why I decided on a custom ROM ?
I found cm11 okay but feel that kk GE is so much fluid :highfive:
I think it isn't possible to go from a knox-enabled rom to one without knox?
So I have knox-enabled 4 right now and guessing when I go on CM11 it'll still be there so when I try to downgrade I should be able to?
As it's not going from 4.3 (knox-enabled) to 4.2 (knox-disabled) but from 4.4 (knox-enabled?) to 4.3 (knox-enabled)
I'm not really sure but can someone give us some help .

I think I'll update to stock 4.4 and then from there create another nandroid and move about ROMs? Would that work?

If you needed to go back would you go back to an official 4.4 or 4.3 then?
Do you think it would be a good idea to just titaniumbackup everything and Nandroid and flash cm11 and so if there are any problems I could just flash stock 4.4 and install all the apps back via titanium backup?
Would there be a problem with the bootloader?

If I needed to go official I would flash back to 4.3 as that's what I'm meant to be on.
Always make a backup before flashing that way you can reinstall.
Can't see a problem with bootloader even if you had to flash official I would just use chainfire to gain recovery/root again ?

But this new knox thing on the S4 means you can't downgrade the bootloader or something. So I think going from 4.4 to 4.3 is downgrading the bootloader? And so would risk bricking your device which is why I don't want to attempt it unless someone has done it and had to problem

You are already on the new bootloader with Knox triggered so there is no downgrading to old bootloader.
You are safe to stay on 4.3 but if you put 4.4 or cm11 on your phone you may not be able to go back to an earlier version?
Hi, I hope I can clear something here. If you are on stock 4.3, rooted and Knox 0x1, you can flash cm and you can restore your 4.3 backup. If you once triggered your Knox to 0x1, it's not possible to get it back to 0x0.
If you flash a stock Samsung 4.4.2 KitKat with the new KitKat bootloader, you can restore any custom 4.3 ROM. You can not flash a 4.3 stock ROM with Odin once you are on the KitKat bootloader. In this case you have to flash a stock KitKat ROM.
Another thing: if you now are on a 4.3 bootloader and you flash a 4.4 ROM, it could break wifi. But there are fixes possible with editing the build.prop.
So fact is, no matter what ever you do, if your Knox is already 0x1, it's not possible to get back to 0x0.

Hi there and thanks for your help but could I clear this up
You said 'If you are on stock 4.3, rooted and Knox 0x1, you can flash cm and you can restore your 4.3 backup.'
I am on stock 4.3, did you mean CM10.1 (Android 4.3) or CM11 (Android 4.4)? And if CM11 then that would mean I could go to android 4.4 and then back down to 4.3 stock if I wanted?
And flashing a KitKat ROM on 4.3 ROM would give me that wifi problem?
So do you think I should flash stock 4.4 using Odin and then flash CM11.. and then if wanted I could just go back to stock 4.4? Would there be a change in bootloader between 4.4 roms?
Hope you understood this, thanks again

If you want 4.4, you can flash the stock Samsung package including the newest bootloader and modem. Wifi and everything else will work then. Once you are on the 4.4 bootloader, you can switch between all 4.4 ROMS, stock or custom. You be able to Odin flash the stock Samsung 4.4 ROM again. But you can not flash a STOCK SAMSUNG 4.3 ROM again. 4.3 CUSTOM Rom is possible.
Remember: if you flash the Samsung stock 4.4 package, you have to root and flash a custom recovery before you can flash cm11 I suggest TWRP 2.6.3.1, works perfect.

Is there a stock debloated pre rooted 4.4 for i9505?
so i have been staying updated with the new kitkat roll out for the s4, i have a UK i9505 lte, i have seen the odin flashable file for a few country's so far, i was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to a clean deboated rom. i am currently running stock 4.2.2 UK rom rooted with a clockwork mod based recovery. unfortunately i have knox and its been tripped 0 x 1. if that makes a differance.
i have searched the development section but could not seem to find a debloated offcial kitkat rom, i would attempt making one. myself but i find the s4 much more confusing compared to the flashing process which came with my previous s2, and dont want to risk bricking my s4.

There's a few out there, I recommend the below if you want stock, pre-rooted, debloated (customisable by you), without the Knox stuff (might not matter so much to you as you've already tripped it, but shouldn't matter).

thanks for your reply, i did see this, but i can read many users finding little bugs here and there, and i really was looking for a very reliable clean rom, with jjust minimum mods, il give this a try if there is no other clean stock kitkat released, or i may just flash the official with Odin and manually root and clean it up.

Any issues are usually caused by not doing a clean install. There are the odd couple of things that seem to be caused by having the old (pre-knox) boot loader, but they will be fixed sooner or later. Again you should be fine if your already on the new boot loader anyway. Any problems just say, plenty of support and advice from the dev and users.

Hi folks!
I'm one of the the few lucky ones still being on the pre-KNOX 4.2.2, buildnumber JDQ39.I9505XXUBMGA. I own the international (swedish unbranded) version of the I9505. At the moment i have Root and a custom recovery installed, stock TouchWiz.
Now I want to discuss the pros and cons of WHETHER staying on this version, installing a custom ROM and a custom recovery OR updating to Jelly Bean 4.3 and only having the possibility to root without voiding my warranty.
I'm wondering:
Are there are any improvements in performance and stability with Jelly Bean 4.3?
Is there a stable custom ROM?
Is there a stable custom ROM that uses all the possibilties on the SGS4?
The reasons why I want to have ROOT is the annoying inability to move app data to the SD card. I don't want to void warranty.
Every answer/idea/opinion is welcome!

Hi, first of all, you lucky guy can flash every custom ROM 4.3 and also 4.4.2 when no new bootloader is included.:good:
the Samsung based ROMS are fully working. All you have to do is to flash a ROM of your choice and update your baseband. It should have the same base as the ROM. So if the ROM is based on a NB8 firmware, you have to use a NB8 baseband. But flash only the modem.bin file, not the non-hlos file.
for working wifi use a custom kernel like KT or similar.
The performance and the batterylife are in my opinion much better in 4.3 and 4.4.2.
it depends on your using.
just try a little bit. As long as you not update you bootloader, you're on the safe side.

just try a little bit. As long as you not update you bootloader, you're on the safe side.

How do I know that a custom ROM doesn't contain the new bootloader? Does the bootloader come with the kernel? If so, which kernel versions are safe? Which custom ROM without new kernel is most stable?
Do 4.3 and 4.4 run on the old kernel? Are there significant improvements in the original kernel coming with 4.3?
After reading about 4.4 I absolutely do not want to update to KitKat.
Many questions but the amount of kernels and ROMs is simply overpowering for someone who does not have the time to read every post on XDA every day.
Seeing forward to your answers.
I'm pre knox and have flashed various rims including the Google Edition roms. Currently I'm on KitKat TW rom using the pre rooted debloated version. You'll have to update to the kitkat kernel but this is included in the rom. All custom roms that are flashable via recovery will not have the new bootloader. Knox is tied into the bootloader. Why don't you want to install kitkat? It's better overall with the new kitkat features.
I run KT kernel it's a fantastic kernel in my opinion and has many tweaks.

Thank you for your answer. I read about problems accessing the SD card in KitKat. Or is this not a problem with custom ROMs? I want to be able to move app data to SD card.
