MJE is already out for some time now. Indications are that there is a Kitkat release pending though.

Hard to say really. Because they both operate in the ISM band, there is a possibility of interference. For instance, take a look at this old (2002) article in EE Times.. But based on it's age, I would guess that current SOCs in handsets probably have radio hardware/firmware that has "other-protocol awareness" that prevent the device from interfering with itself, but probably do absolutely nothing about interference from/to other devices in the area on the "other" protocol. (That is, other BT devices interfering with the handset during it's use of 802.11, other 802.11 devices interfering with the handset's use of BT, and conversely for both). The protocol standards for Bluetooth and 802.11{a/b/g/n/ac} have mechanisms for cooperation/sharing for devices within their own protocol; but obviously a protocol standard can not have anything to say about something outside of it's own definition.
Then have a look at this Cisco article about the prevalence of interference in WiFi networks. Together with interop problems, it goes a long way to explaining why you see so many different reports of different kinds of trouble - the ISM band is a wide-open, uncontrolled experiment by the FCC. The fact that a lot of devices and combinations of devices succeed (WiFi is quite successful overall) is not a guarantee that trouble experienced in a particular case is the result of defective hardware or software.
Several generations of Android ago I experienced a problem where many devices on a WLAN were successful connecting to a Linksys WiFi router - and my Android phone would associate and authenticate successfully - but never get a DHCP lease. Sounds like a problem with the Android phone software/hardware, right? Except in this particular case, the problem was resolved by updating the router firmware, not the phone.
In that instance, it was tempting to "blame the phone" based on nominal behavior of other devices; but that inference turned out to be incorrect. The reasons that things happened the way they did was probably because the Android phone was staying within protocol, but exhibiting different behaviors than the other Windows/Apple devices on the WLAN, and those compliant - but different - behaviors elicited a bug in the router's software that the other devices did not trip.
That's the deal with Wifi. It takes two to tango. And there's always the possibility of other crap (portable phones, microwaves, baby monitors, wireless analog cameras, fluorescent lights) spoiling the dance.
Sorry to say it, but interop problems happen all the time with WiFi.
If you want to solve them in a particular instance, you have to start digging into the details.
If you control the WiFi router in question, there are far more knobs available to turn on the router than on the phone/tablet. Upgrade your router firmware, and start turning off unnecessary behaviors on the router. If you reduce the constellation of possible behaviors on either or both devices, the likelihood of bug expression will decrease.
.
Thanks to all who replied to the thread. Still having some issues with Wi-Fi. Has anyone been able to confirm that Verizon will be releasing a new update?
Thanks
Every router we'll be different so the web console interface will be unique per router model.
You want to login to your router via Google chrome or IE, and navigate to something along the lines of Wi-Fi channel frequency.
There should be a range from 1-11 "channels" and you want to try one at a time. Yours could be different than mine depending on interference around you.
I hope this kinda makes sense. This also applies to general networking if your laptop Wi-Fi signal is weak sauce

I have gave verizon/samsung pure h.e.l.l over my WiFi problem i have called them 100× make no mistake it pisses me off that im paying full retail for my note and i be damned its gonna work right. The verizon REP told me that Samsung was gonna release a 4.3.1 update in 2 weeks. 4.3 is Jellybean 4.3.1 is Jellybean....I know 4.3 has been out for sometime. While i was on the phone with VZW *****n about Samsungs mistake she gotten an email say that Samsung was updating to 4.3.1 in 2 weeks. She also said that the previous software didnt have this problem which im unaware of, because my note 3 came out with 4.3. She "VZW REP" went on to say that this started with the MJE 4.3 update. Who knows just have to wait n c.

Hello all,
currently my Nexus 4 is losing it's mobile internet connection when i am a long time connected to a wifi. I am on O2 germany as a carrier, when android was much younger, like 1.6 i had the same issues, but somewhen on android 2.X it was fixed.
Somehow it looks like in 4.2 it's now the same issue
When i am just a few minutes in the wifi and lose wifi connection like moving away from the building everything is fine and the nexus 4 is switching to mobile internet
when i am a few hours in the wifi and to the same it's not switching, i've got cell connection for call and text but no Internet,
switchting from 2g to 2g/3g fixes it then, but it's somehow annoying
any ideas or anyone with the same issue?
edit:
seems that people are having the same issue on the galaxy nexus too, but even with older android versions

it actually happens to me as well. I live in Australia and thought the problem lies with my provider. And yeah I can get the 3g connection back when i tried to change to 2g then back to 3g connection. Has this issue been reported before? hope it can be fixed soon.
This has happened to me twice since I got my N4. I'm in Canada btw. I wonder if it is a frequent problem out there.

my solution so far is: airplane mode on -> airplane mode off
This is what I usually end up doing. Although it sucks that a phone of this caliber has problems with this.

Im having the same problem. Doesnt matter which rom im on. Been on stock, modaco, and some PA rom with this problem. Also used matr1x kernel and franco kernel. Solution for me is to jump into airplane mode and back.
I'm in the same boat and only quick fix is airplane mode on/off.

I have the same issue.
I dont know whose fault it is, Google, LG or my carrier... but it's quite frustrating from time to time.
I thought i had solved it by activating "choose automatically" in mobile network settings> network operators.
It worked yesterday and this saturday, i didnt drop 3g connection when i disconnected wifi.
But i lost it again this morning as i left for work, just like last week...
I've had this problem since 2.1. I seem to remember it being on the Google fix boards. The aeroplane on/off is the easiest workaround. But, still, it's annoying, and it is also not consistent. If it makes you feel any better, the same issue arises on iphones. This suggests it is not simply an android issue, it might be interesting to know if bb or wpx does it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
i think the issue is neither LG nor Google
i think it's something with qualcomm driver and the provider
because on older devices i had with qualcomm chips had the same issue
the sgs2 and the hox which had exynos and nvidia chips didn't had the issue

so if you check the google support forum thread
it looks like a lot of users are having this issues
i don't undersand why google is not even giving a statement
It happens to me very often, because I turn off data overnight. Airplane mode doesn't help, the only thing that brings connection back without reboot is Mobile Networks -> Network operators -> search... It finds my operator again and connection comes back. I had the same problem with Galaxy Nexus 4.1.2 (fixed in 4.2, though), but airplane mode did the trick there.

Internet stops working when left idle for long
I bought the phone a week back & am facing the same problem.....not just been with Wi Fi even if the phone is left idle the internet stops working & i have to restart......post that it comes back to normal & active.
Its quite annoying to restart phone every now n then everytime internet stops working.
Also, tried Airplane mode on/off its worked.
Are there any experts that can help to resolve the issue for a better & permanent solution....?!
Here are my specs:
Phone
16gb galaxy s4
At&t
Not rooted
Touchwiz
Android 4.2
MF3 baseband
Router
Apple airport extreme
Auto channels
WPA password protected
I have seen some threads with the s4 running slow on dlink WiFi, but I have an airport extreme base station at home. My phone rings perfectly on 4g/LTE, but nothing seems to work on Wi-Fi. YouTube is slow as hell, play store takes forever to load. A few weeks ago, everything was working great over Wi-Fi too, so I wanted to ask if anyone else is currently having this issue?
My wife's iPod touch works fine on the same Wi-Fi, as well as a thinkpad and macbook air.
I've already tried disabling Wi-Fi power saving mode, but haven't touched any other settings. Any thoughts on what to do? I was thinking about taking it to best buy and switching out the phone, maybe a bad phone? (Not likely because it was working fine a few weeks ago)

hi everyone....used to be a regular on here when i had my captivate, but then the s3 and my current s4 i never modded in any way......anyway...my att s4 will not keep my home wifi info and loses connection at times....is there any way to fix this?
If it only happens on your home Wi-Fi it's an issue with it. Try upgrading the firmware on it.
no
it has to be phone side becausee there are numerous things on wifi that are not effected
Few questions first to help,
Is your router a single or dual band router?
Does it drop and than reconnect, or is it dropping and not finding?
Sent from my SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
it drops and then i have to retype the password
i think it is dual band
WiFi has been crap on my s4 since day one. Constantly drops or slows significantly on N or AC or G networks. I tried 3 routers and I have dozens of other devices with no problems. Countless times a day I have to toggle WiFi on and off to restore speed for another 5,10 or 15 minutes. YouTube is the worst. It just hangs when the phone drops to 1-3 Mbps down from 30. This happened on stock and all stock like ROMs. WiFi is this phones tragic flaw. The problem gets no attention online because people think it only pertains to dlink routers which is completely untrue.

well i figured out my problem i think...it may be your problem as well
is yours on att as well?
if so there is a app called att smart wifi...this is what was causing my issues....however the phone(even stock) will let you remove this app
I am on att, I don't have it. I have something frozen called ATT hotspots. But nothing called Att smart WiFi.

What was the problem I'm curious. I did a chat with Samsung and they told me a bunch of things to do that you tell clueless people, like restart your phone or factory reset. The worst part is he told he never heard pf anyone complaining about the issue I was describing. Yet there are threads all over the internet about it. It's pathetic.
One thing I absolutely loved about Apple is that you walk into their store, you show them a legitimate problem and you walk out with another phone. No BS no runaround no nothing. That's the only thing I miss and I miss it a lot.
I'm with you techweed, I'm having the dreaded wifi is unstable message, the first tech support rep admitted it's a software issue and to deal with it. The last samsung rep said to send it in and be without a phone for five days. I find it helps to turn on airplane mode then turn it off. Resetting the radios often helps it pick up 4g again.
We shouldn't have to keep toggling just to maintain lte. I called Verizon the other day and they put in a ticket but I don't think much is going to come of it.
This phone's reception is much weaker than the droid DNA. In places I got steady 4g, it now goes back and forth from 3g.
The signal strength is like a good 10-20+dbs worse than the DNA in the same spots. (I'm pretty much only at work and home do nothing's changed except the phone).
Sometimes with this phone, it'll show connected to lte (1-2 bars on the icon) but I can't get anything to load. No websites, no rhapsody streaming, nothing. All apps time out trying to connect. But that might be just a specific area at work. Regardless, I'm sure that even at home, the signal strength is always over -100 when the DNA would regularly be sub -100
So annoying.

Not only is my cellular reception much better, my wifi reception is much better too. Good enough that in places that both didn't work before I now get at least usable 1x or one bar 3g/4g data.

Every experience is different. I Have A DROID Bionic And I Use It For Work And I Constantly Notice The Bionic On 4G And The Note 3 On 3G. It's not all the time obviously but it's enough to be noticeable.

Well so far no improvement. I'm going to let it settle for a few days before I change it back.

I dunno. This phone gets all around better reception than my GS3 did. On MJE here.

OP, have you dropped your phone perhaps? I just read about the "LDS" technology they started using beginning with the Note 3 that integrates the antenna into the actual frame of the device. They say stress on the frame could cause the antenna itself inside to crack affecting signal.

No I haven't dropped my phone. my phone is very well taken care of. After using the MI9 modem for a day I've had twice the battery life. At 14 hrs I had 51%battery with 5 hours of on screen time. Thanks for the feedback.

I don't think people in here realize different manufacturers phones get different reception. HTC and Moto phones will ALWAYS get better signal. Its a fact of life. Just because your note 3 is newer doesn't mean anything.
And if your still thinking of switching to Dev Edition for better signal, your in for a surprise..... That phone has the same radio hardware in it that the Note 3 you currently have does. Wouldn't waste the "couple hundred bucks" looking there for better signal.
PS - my Note 3 gets phenomenal signal. Not as good as my HTC One did (obviously) but better than all the other flagship phones Verizon has had in the last 2 yrs.

You are correct sir I think I'm just doomed with the area I live in but MI9 modem did help my signal or mostly my battery life.
