I'm running the latest CM10.2 Nightly of the MicroSD on my Nook Color. I'm really liking it over CM9(what I had before) but I've run into one major issue, Headphone Volume. I opened up DSP Manager and and cranked the equalizer up in the Speaker category and my speaker got nice and loud, but when I try to do the same for the headphones nothing works. Changing the Headset category's equalizer has zero effect on anything, and changing the other categories didn't help either. I can't apply any audio affects to the headphone jack. I found this thread on the CM forums, but couldn't find any of the mentioned files or directories. I suspect things have been changed and moved around in Android 4.3. The only volume boosting method I've found that works is by playing the video/audio file in MX Player and use it to boost the volume, but that only helps marginally and is zero help in any other app.
Is there any way I can get this to work?
There is a thread over at http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/73393-low-headphone-volume-using-nightlies/ about your issue.
I couldn't get mine to work because I did not find the file mentioned in the post.

I already linked to that thread in my post and said that it didn't contain any answers for CM10.2. All the files mentioned in it don't exist in the latest 10.2 nightlies.

I'm running 10.2.1 stable on nook color and have the same problem but it also affects my internal speaker too. Only thing I've found that works is Volume+ 2.0. I had same problem with CM7 and their original version was the only fix that worked on that as well.
I really don't understand why we're not given direct access to set the max volume settings since this is a problem for some users in EVERY version of android. I get why but it should be available in the hidden dev settings with a warning that you can blow your speakers/headset up if not careful.
Anyway...you can get VolumePlus v2.0 from their website free. androidaudiohacks.com (first post, can't post links) Its a beta version and I've seen some bugs but it works to fix low volume on my NC running CM10.2.1. I know his original vol+ is in the app store but I'm not sure about v2. You need v2 for jellybean.
Just so you're aware, sometimes the boost and or EQ switches don't stay in the on position but they still seem to be working fine. Also the speaker boost settings seem to work on both my speaker and headset. So if you just try setting the HS settings and nothing happens try the speaker settings. Hope this helps some.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the info. I had known about Volume+ but ignored it in this case because last I checked they couldn't get it working past Android 4.1. I'll try it later. Thanks for the help.

I have seen this many times but cannot find a .zip anywhere with just this mod. I am looking for a loudness mod to increase the volume of the media speaker. Any help would be appreciated. I just got my Epic 4G today and I'm jumping right in. Thanks in advance
I want one too! Can barely hear my recorded audio when driving.
Still looking around for this. Any ideas?
Shameless bump, Still looking Maybe someone who applied a volume mod to their rom can zip up just that one mod and post it? Would be awesome
I'm not sure there is an external speaker volume mod, but there is VooDoo. Simply flash a kernel that has voodoo mods included. (Genocide, Visionkernel, twilight zone kernel).

I bet what you saw is the loudness mod in qpst. It might have been in cmda workshop, but I'm pretty sure that there was a spot in qpst that you can set speaker loudness for the ring, speaker, and something else. I don't recall it working, but the placebo effect is of great value to those that benefit from it.
I flashed twilight zone kernel and overclocked my cpu while I was at it. Voltage control wouldn't load though, for some reason, so I had to use a different app to set it to 1.3 Ghz, and it said the frequency was adjusted automatically, so I'll see if thats true or not.
Sorry for the ignorance but how do you tell if the voodoo sound driver is actually installed? I can't find mention of it anywhere in the phone UI.
Edit: haha, Guess I missed the memo about downloading voodoo control. I got it running fine now
I'm running HD2O's new NODO rom.
Still havent been able to find a fix for the low volume out of the headphones listening to music, and very low volume for speakerphone. The camera also doesnt autofocus. Any 1 figure out a way to fix this yet? The last rom i was using before nodo, speaker volume was crazy loud. I would rather it be loud than very quiet. Also with WPbench, it shows that it's using 16 bit color instead of 32. Theres banding in the color transitions. Any fix for this, or is the HD2 screen just not up to par?

Is it newer than his original nodo rom he dropped before DFT's?
Yes it is newer and supposedly better. I'm downloading it as I write this.

Im going to see how ppcboy's rom is. his last one was awsome. nothing bad at all to sday about his previous build. Please let me know what you think of yuki's new rom. I dont have my usb cord to flash it tonight anyway.
You can possibly fix the volume by changing the general volume attenuation in HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\MaxdBAtten. Default (original DFT) value for this key is 45, it's often set higher in custom roms to reduce the volume. Setting it again to a lower value will make the device (headphones + speaker) louder. I wouldn't go below 45 though, thats already pretty deafening
There is no fix for the camera other than installing a different camera software alltogether, AKAIK
BTW, both topics are pretty extensively discussed on the forum already
Ive tryed the maxbatt edit. Doesnt have any effect, except for adding more bars to volume, for a more acute volume adjustment. Doesnt actually make it louder or softer. Ive been looking in the other forums for answers for a few weeks now, and no 1 has come up with a legit answer, except reflash another rom. Ill have to look into another camera software for WP7, and the color banding issue is still no fix in site?
Ok. So I tryed out Yuki's newest rom. It's pretty dope. The camera is nice, but volume still seems low on speakerphone/external speaker. Ring volume is plenty loud though. Awsome original WP7 boot screen, and what not. Didn't really care for the green button coded to blutooth/media player. Right now I'm running elMInStER blackSideSeven ROM. Love everything about it except for the no camera fix. If this rom had yuki's camera he has in his, it would have been perfect. The green hardware button is hard coded as the green phone button, and doubles as the camera after you open it. Volume seems a bit louder on that rom also.
Hey can you tell me how much the battery drain is on the blackSideSeven ROM?
So far, it's been decent. Had the phone on since 7AM unplugged, havent used it much, but im still @ around 80% @ 2PM
My sound just recently stopped working randomly.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
1. Multiple ROM changes
2. Checked volumes
3. Plugged in headphones (this actually produces sound)
No headphones icon
Current rom: Flexreaper

Could be hardware problem.
Does volume control work with rocker switch?
You could pop the back off and check speaker connections, wires etc.
Use a magnifying glass to check. Especially contacts around headphone jack.
Maybe a little careful poking around with a pencil eraser while the tablet is playing sound.
Good Luck with your problem
Sounds like a hardware issue.
You could try rolling back to HC3 via TD's V.4
But probably a hardware issue.

Im having the same issue coming up from hc3 to the new ics slim on A500. sound was out before upgrade just went all of a sudden, has yet to return but head phone jack works fine. tried every thing too, want to isolate the chunk of programing that controls audio and flash random potential fixs in.
Sound pop/crack
I have installed pjsports version of Android 4.3 [CM10.2 Unofficial] Build 6 on my a500 tablet.
The sound works great until i put the tablet in sleep mode. After waking up the tablet the sound system is broken. The sound is coming out but every second I ear loud pop/cracking noise and the video (or application) slows down to a crawl.
Does anyone experience similar problems ?
I believe I have read that this happens when too many apps running in the background
I'm posting this in General because I'm not the author, I just found it and it worked for me.
Many of us have an issue with the N7000 where audio at a very low volume is cut to silence. This can irritatingly interrupt quiet music or videos; anyone who has watched the Walking Dead on Netflix with headphones on has probably noticed it. I have observed this behavior across all ROMs I've used since 4.0. Near as I can tell, this appears to be an intended feature to reduce hiss or other unwanted noise from the audio hardware, but it's a little too zealous. The workaround is to force this mechanism not to activate by constantly putting a loud enough sound through the system; a sound we can't hear.
Method 1
An apk someone made and posted to a google board that has worked around the issue for me.
This works even better if you have a method to make sure the service starts on phone boot.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35861#c77
Please thank the person who made the apk if it helps you.
Method 2
XDA user Djezpur came up with another fix that works as well or better that the one above.
In Tasker, I just created a profile to play the file on loop whenever headphones are plugged in and screen is on.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35047527&postcount=25
Please thank Djezpur in their post if this method works for you.
Thanks for this answer.
There is a patch that fixes the problem for my N7000 with OmniROM:
github.com gustavoss android_kernel_samsung_smdk4412 commit 3019675d57c4046c30f82d04ce41913150df0d6e
(Sorry for the distorted link, as a new user I am not allowed to post links yet...)
The question is: How to get it into CM, OmniROM, and co.?
Also see:
jira.omnirom.org browse OMNI-561 ("Sound cuts off at low volume playback".
Kind regards
Clackwell
This is great. Thanks!

You have to modify MixerPaths in system/etc. In Speaker audio, headset for in call volume, and headphones. Change the values from about 80, adding 2 or 3 and test, then repeate the operation.(If you modify drastically a value, you can broke speaker or headphones.
It didnt work unless for the speaker volume its different line then :RX7 Digital Volume value=83 (increased to 95). Volume level is still the same after reboot
There is a thread in one of this devices sections that works just fine and has a few options available
