howdy z1 owners, as an open source and linux fan i whould love to see ubuntu touch 2.0 ported to the z1, the new version should support dualbooting with android so basicly it's a free playground to test things and then go back to fully working android when you need it.
i use ubuntu as my daily driver on my laptop and have some experiance with terminal commands and compiling things from source, but i have no development experience or skills.
if anyone is whilling to join me i whould really love to try and get a port working on z1,i know @krabappel2548 did one for the xperia z a while back.
i could help with testing and log cats, since i don't have a lot of free time to learn and try make the porting myself for now, university is a great time consumer.
so is anyone in on this? here is a link for ubuntu touch porting guide.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
First off all there was a request for this a while ago and I worked on it for a while. But there were too many compiling issies.
Secondly: Ubuntu touch porting is still with cm10.1 device trees, which have absolutely no Snapdragon S800 support and aren't even present for our Z1..
So it won't happen soon before Ubuntu shifts to cm11.0 device trees, which is one of their plans. If that happens I'll maybe try porting it again.

No nothing changed. Real life problems are better but I'm sick of some people and things on xda so I won't do anything for now, just be a spectator and watch. If I want to make something I'll do it for personal use for now.

you'll never get the play store because nothing on there would run anyway on ubuntu. for someone who's begging for ubuntu support, you sure don't seem to know anything about it.

Ubuntu is built from cm10.1 and there's even a pretty comprehensive guid on building Ubuntu on the wiki. Also I know that KA is working on it but I don't know how far he is. I'm sure he'll tell us if he makes any significant progress
Ubuntu for phone is still in Alpha. Doesn't make sense to port that to the Xperia Z just yet. I wouldn't mind a port though, as that would mean that we would have a working version for our phone when Ubuntu for phone goes RC. That being said, I am sure someone will release it for the Z sooner or later; probably being developed as we speak.

I bought my xperia z and I just loved it..but now after using it for some months I am dissapointed..theres no developer support yet..no good kernels no good roms..performance issues in games such as iron man 3 and little bit about the camera too..but theres no going I have to use it for atleast couple of years hope till then the developers turn towards the xperia z and make it one of the best device..
Note:- just to clear m not really that dissapointed by the hardware its just the support the XZ not geeting..so m not a Sammy or HTC fan but yes I was immpressed by the HTC one its a great device..

What more development do you want to see, the Doomkernel is great there's 2 dif AOSP/4,2 kernels
Really when I was deciding for a kernel for my ARC, I just went with the best boot logo, why? THEY ALL DID THE SAME THING.
#ArcKnight
Tl;dr :we don't need 200 kernels that do the same thing. I'd rather have a team working on a super kernel, like krabbapels (Carbon team)

It's a very expensive device do you think it's affordable by everyone? The Nexus is quite more old than this one and the fact that they have the same processor might help to port things to this one. If you wanted a phone with lots of devs you should have gone for the Nexus then.
Also the fact that the Sony firmware are really well done makes it difficult to improve anything than just adding gimmicks.
PS. For not being a troll, your last sentence from the op looks quite trolling to me.

I Purchased this phone to try to get away from flashing a new ROM/Kernel every few days, and I'm not really sure the phone's software needs too much in my opinion.
I'm not saying it's perfect but straight out of the box this phone is pretty good.
If you do wan't to flash lots of mods buy a Nexus device! You will never get the same dev support outside the Nexus community.
I just hope Sony doesn't make me regret buying this phone with their slow update scheme.

Yes the Carbon team is developing for their own kernel ans Rom, I think its 8 members.
And f.y.i you shouldn't compare Z with Nexus4. Compare it with HTC1/GS4. They're in same price & release Range.
I think there's somewhat less of threads, but when you look at the actual topics. What so they have that we don't.
I want some optimisations..I dont think that the software is.optimized..for ex iron man 3 lags alot on the XZ dont know if its the game problem.or some thing with the XZ and I dont know about other phones like GS4 or HTC1 as I dont care about them I care about what I have..I want my Z to play every game out there as I think the hardware is.capable of playing them..

And 1 hour later you're sure that it's the game and not the phone... that goes fast, I think you just don't know what you want.
I came from the Galaxy Note and there were a lot more custom roms that right, but you're only thinking at one thing:
More options.
More roms doesn't have to mean that things will be optimized, many times it's just a GUI difference, if you just want that why not invest your time learning UCCW the possibilities are endless and the good thing is that you can use the same setup on almost every phone, you can't do that with custom roms.
The biggest downside for me:
Example: Lets say you install Custom rom X made by developer Y, what happens when Developer Y buys another phone and decides not to do anything anymore with Custom rom X, that means no more bug fixes and you're stuck with a rom that isn't supported anymore.
The more custom roms the more chances of that happening.
So I just saw that the Sony Z Play edition is now available. I can't confirm because the Play Store Link isn't usable in my country.
If this is true does it mean we can pull the core rom from the the Sony Z edition and use it to help CM etc?
It's only the Z Ultra. And yes, Z Ultra GPE software will run on the Z Ultra without modifications. Will also really speed up Z1 development. For the Z there's not that much of an advantage.
I can only find mention of a Google edition Z Ultra, not a Z.

Nope, and there's not much point. The Z is very easy to develop for (there already are fully stable KitKat builds) and has a lot of hardware that's similar to the Nexus 4 which helps a huge lot.

I have the t mobile xperia z and I was hoping that because its a stock rom from sony the bootloader can be locked cause its same kernel and stuff from sony.
made sense to just be able to flash it.
it sucks there is no international LTE version that suits the US t mobile with unlockable bootloader.
I talked to sony and they say t mobile locked the bootloader which doesn't make sense!
maybe I should do a warranty exchange and talk to sony before hand and ask to get another with LTE and unlockable bootloader.

Hello guys.If you had a m7 before this m8,I am sure you have heard about MultiROM.
If you don't,MultiROM is a solution to boot custom ROMs from internal storage(sdcard) like: booting Android Revolution HD and PA + CyanogenMod.
I got a lot of messages about supporting this device .
Here is a video :

SO...is this something like Safestrap was for my Note 3? It will store different partitions on my phone so I can boot a different os on startup? If so, why is is called MultiRom? It sounds more like Multi-Boot Recovery unless a rom comes with it...I will just have to wait and find out I guess...
