Ok well I went thru many testing options when it came to the sound quality out of the touch hd compared to other devices.
1- to test the sound quality I used the following players
a- core player 1.3
b- pocket music 5.1
c- touch flo player that came with the htc
d- pocket player
and all sucked big time, when I connected the device to a sony adapter cassette in the car. The sound is really awful comapred to all the devices I own like the iphone, or ipaq. WHAT THE HELL IS THE PROBLEM. I tried to use the equalizers in all the palyers, aslo the audio booster but the sound sucks. I tried to use also an adapter that has 3 rings on it to connect to the htc hd.
Please am I missing something here???

It all comes down to how you have your HD setup. First, check the app called "Audio Booster", it comes out of the box configured to sound like ****, turn it off. Get the HD Tweak app and disable the 100db sound cut barrier and use the graphics equalizer that is in your chosen player. I use Mortplayer and now I can say that the playback with my Sony in ear headphones is really good.
HD Tweak has a setting that should reduce the ring delay.
me I also agree that audio booster sucks, when switched off sound gets much better
Also, a cassette adaptor is likely to limit the quality you can achieve. Better to compare through a decent set of headphones.

I've tested Touch HD's sound on high quality headphones (Ultimate ears Super.fi 5XB) and the sound is great even on stock settings. In fact, my iPod is getting a lot less playtime since I bought THD.
Did you notice any hiss in qiet moments or on gaps between tracks? For me that is exactly the same as it was on Kaiser
Yes I noticed a hiss and a small gap in a song, i even installed the hd tweak, and sd tune up. But still the problem remains.

I only have Shure E2C for "in move" devices, but I remember them sound much better than with Touch HD

I'm having similar troubles here! Turning down the volume to about 30% on phone and using car stereo volume helps a bit. Also try different players and get rid of the car charger! It truly sucks as my other ppcs & mp3 players do not need tweaking AT ALL! They all play & charge at the same time.

Is this a joke? Sorry I am confused. You are talking about the needed GREAT SOUND an than you are talking about some funny CASSETTE ADAPTER?
Conclusion: If you want great sound in your car, you should not spend all your money for a phone - How about new car stereo - some of these funny new toys supporting funny things like LINE IN or USB-MP3 or Bluetooth A2DP / AVRCP (handsfree profile). I had a really hard time to remember how a cassette looks like.
The next one blames HTC becauese the HD doesn´t sound good when connected to the phono-in of his late ´80s stereo.
From my point of view, the HD serves a better quality as most of my "old" mp3 Players, better than my iPod but not as good as my MP3 from Philips. Even so, yes i´ve noticed these short lagggggs in playback. I wouldn´t have noticed them if someone here hadn´t mentioned them.... so thank you
What´s next? 8-track tape adapter doesnt work right on your high end car stereo?

My Kaiser didn't had any... But in the HD I notice it happens once in awhile using bluetooth phones. But in general i got tell the SOUND ROCKS.... (after you used HDtweak to disable the 100dB limit!)
The title is really misleading for a new costumer, it's not true that the sound output sucks in my tests it resulted better than my old n95 8gb and an ipod touch.
For the average costumer the sound output on headphones is good.

If you are noticing differences between devices when using the tape adaptor in the car but not when using headphones, there has to be something different in the setup. (Or you're using apple-grade headphones )
The tape adaptor is designed to mimic the response of headphones, so that the player doesn't see a difference. I second the suggestions of turning off the audio booster and 100 dB cutoff, as these can and often will interfere with the signal.
Once you've turned off the equalisers, try setting the volume on the player to about 50 - 70% and then adjust the car stereo to your required volume. There may be a mismatch when the HD amp is either running at really low or high outputs, causing distortion.
It would also be helpful if you could characterise the type of problem you're having: Hiss, low level overall distortion, distortion mainly on peaks, poor frequency response, etc. Different effects will typically have different sources.
NB: don't rubbish the tape adaptor! It serves its automotive function for me as well, although I'll take my Grados and Westones when the wife isn't in the car
Edit: Just did a quick comparison with my iPod Nano and there is very little between them on good headphones.
I can't confirm that at all, using Koss Porta Pro headphones and Coreplayer for playback (audio booster off, 100 db limit disabled, equalizer enabled) I get fantastic sound for a portable device, something's wrong with your setup.
Just connected my HD to my Z-5500 500W sound system using the analogue connections. It sounds perfectly fine to me, as good as anything else analogue i have connected.
I'm using my Touch HD with a pair of Sennheiser HD550 and some BOSE Quietcomfort 2 headphones. By no means super high-end, but good enough that I can say that the sound on my Touch HD is very good. No hiss at all, good clarity and overall good sound.
I have installed hd tweak and I tested the sound with Coreplayer and the inbuilt one in TouchFlo.

Well Shure E2C are isolating earphones you put into ear channel. They are very sensitive, you hear everything louder than on any other type od headphones especially noises. And there is hiss/noise trust me. I also have headband Sennheiser HD580 & PX100 they are ok with HD. The trouble is that there is no hiss/noise at all if I plug shure's into my computer (SB X-Fi Extreme Music) and quality is also bit better.
I also have isolating earbud type headphones and the HD sounds no worse than any other Mp3 player ive used, including an iPhone or N95 8GB. Its not a high end audio device, comparing it to a 24bit reasonably high end PC sound card is not fair.
OK pass, I'm an audio-freak type. Maybe I just expect to much from HD
using UE triple.fi 10 vi's and the sound from my MP3's on the HD is very good... i have no complaints.
Any of you using the Desire HD with a BT Stereo Radio and/or stereo headset. The sound quality sounds really bad to me. I had the same thing on my HD2 @ default settings, but fixed that by changing the linespeed in registry. (bitpool on older WM phones)
Have been googling and can't find anything of the sort for Android. Is there a way to fix the audio quality?
My brother has the SE Xperia X10 and it has way better AD2P audio quality, even though it's still android 1.6. So it's not an Android bug, but rather a driver/setting somewhere.
Also the range the BT has is really small, I have a Logitech Pure-Fi Mobile speaker, which connects through BT AD2P, the quality is lower then on my HD2 (after tweaking) and the range is only 5-7m, while the HD2 managed to have skipless playback and higher quality at over 15-20m...
Apart from this I'm really loving the phone . And my car radio has full support for the other BT features. Like skipping tracks (in Spotify) and dialing numbers via the address book on my car radio instead of on my phone. And see who's calling on my radio's display.

You can compare the quality with 96Kbps MP3 which is really bad imho, but still usable. It's about the same on many phones though, allmost all are set to max 31 bitpool... But with windows mobile it was an easy fix.
As the source code is out, I hope the ROM builders can soon find a way to fix this.

I use a pair of plantronics 590e headphones over A2DP and the quality is brilliant! I have not changed a thing in the setup.
I wont play anything lower than 192kbs (most of my mp3 are 320kps) as i am a real fussy git when i comes to audio.
I have used the standard music player and tunewiki and both are perfect!
Are you atchaly using the A2DP or standard mic and mono sound protcal for calls?

You won't know the difference if you haven't heard the difference between bitpool 31 and bitpool 58, it's like night and day to me. Even 256kbps MP3 sounds bad to me tho.
Tried different audio files and it's not spotify causing it. As my brother is also plaything through spotify at HQ settings (which is 160Kbps OGG, comparable with 320+ Kbps MP3) ...
Eagerly waiting for an AD2P fix for android.
When I have my HD playing music through my Car's Bluetooth the quality is also pretty poor.
For some reason I can't choose any of the EQ settings? If I could just try and add some treble I think I could put up with it!
Just tried playing music via bluetooth to my sony head unit in the car and it became so choppy it was painful to even try to listen to it.
Great phone but really disappointed that there is a problem like this as one of the main uses of my phone is for audio in the car.
I use a Sony Ericsson mw600 and the quality is not good. The same headset with my sisters itouch and it sounds great. Is this a hardware or a software issue?

You must be careful with the mw600 that it connects in the correct mode. As headphones NOT headset for music. If you get it wrong it will sound awful. You can check by tapping the Mic during playback, if you can hear it through the headphones you have it set up wrong

i had exact earphone, but it's just awful. first of all; htc doesn't make me choose any sound enhancements, other thing is, my 320kbps musics aren't different from 96 at all.
ps. i am an audiophile.
Imanaged to find my old iTech BlueBand headset yesterday and gave that a go. Sound quality was loud and clear and well balanced.
Shame about the delay though - it's worse than I'm used to. Video is pointless as the lag on the audio is far too much to be bearable.

That sounds like it's using the hands free profile instead of A2DP. You could try going to the options of your bluetooth headset on and untick the "Phone" box, and make sure "Media" is ticked.
I have generally decent bluetooth audio using Motorola T505 to broadcast FM to the car radio (must get around to buying a proper BT head unit, or a new car with one built in...). Most of the problems I have are interference with the FM signal rather than dodgy bluetooth.
However, I do see this kind of bad distortion on the high end with certain pieces of music - generally the solution is to turn down the volume on the Note a couple of notches and crank it up on the car stereo. I assume some of my tunes are just recorded/ripped REALLY DAMNED LOUD, it seems to mainly be things I ripped myself years ago so I probably didn't pay much attention to the levels at the time.
If you lower the volume from the Note does the distortion disappear?

No, still there. I'm using Galaxy note and noticed a similar problem, both with a pair of Plantronics BackBeat and bluetooth car kit FM transmitter. It sounds pretty fine on my Archos 5IT that is running Android 1.6 and my Nokia N900 running Maemo. My note is currently running on Android 2.3.6 Rocket 12.
Bluetooth stereo sounds great for me using Sennheiser MM-200...
If you have exceptionally bad audio quality, it's probable that the headset is being used in handsfree audio mode, and not media mode. If you go to settings>bluetooth, and click on your device, you should see which modes are ticked.
Also, some people have reported better bluetooth audio quality with the LR1 modem. See here:

How the does bluetooth sound for you guys? Mine seems to be worse after the B29 update (not for certain that's when it degraded). I have a decent car stereo setup, but bluetooth distorts and crackles in the mids and highs. It's not unlistenable, but I thought my stereo was on the fritz until I used my 3.5mm input from the headphone jack, which sounds just fine. It can't be that the DAC is that much better, as my other phones sounds fine and this used to.
Do you have any thoughts or experience with something besides a small bluetooth speaker?
And I have tried playing with the Dolby settings. They make no difference with the distortion.
After some perfunctory tests I have noted that Bluetooth audio seems to introduce a significant amount of extra noise at high volumes. Aside from the additional background noise I have not noticed distortions with Bluetooth yet. I have only checked this on B29.

Just something to try...I have a BT device hooked to my AVR, and when I stream through that, if I have the volume on my phone up it sounds horrible. If I stream through it with the volume up just 1 click of the volume button, it sounds good. I increase volume at the AVR instead of the phone.
Through Bluetooth hands free working flawlessly to my.(A2017G version)
I'm having 2 LG 1100/2 Sony SBH 80 and 2 SBH 20.
Haven't try it with external speakers(since I don't own any kind) and on my car I'm using the handsfree and not connected to the car audio system.

I have a A2017G on B05 and a somewhat cheap aukey BT headset: it seems to sound fine for me, no crackling or hissing. Have you tried it on different devices to compare?
A2017U on B29, using Jaybirds Bluebuds X, the sound its great, no distortion or cracking.
I use the Bluetooth on my car stereo too and the sound is excellent. No dolby, but the equalizer works fine.
Did you verify that all your bluetooth devices supports aptx? if not then you will lose sound quality :S
idk, i dont like bluetooth audio streaming... even with aptx. Its not bad but if you want to steam flac music it will still limit the quality. Somehow if i stream the music via bluetooths aptx it sound flat not dynmic and
voluminous.
I haven't tried it with the volume just below full. I'll give it a shot in the morning on my commute.
Other devices (S5 and 6P) sound just fine when paired to my headed unit, so it's likely something with my Axon 7.

On the phone. I meant to say that it's not using the HiFi audio, but the Dolby eq it's fine on Bluetooth. Sorry for the confusion.
I think it sounds about 95% better just one click below full volume. I never would have thought that digital Bluetooth volume would have been the problem, having always set it to 100% with every other device. Thankfully, Tasker makes for a quick fix.

On my G6, I have really terrible audio quality over Bluetooth connections, I've had two separate G6s, of different colors, received weeks apart, and they both suck for Bluetooth audio, especially my Sony car stereo, and LG Tone Free... can anybody else report on their experience? Does your LS993 sound awful on your Bluetooth devices?
Have a fairly new G6 bluetooth og Bose earpiece working very well, also on 2010 F150 pick up and 2012 Buick no audio issues. Audio has been fine so far.
Mine also is pretty poor. The volume level is about half the level of the satellite radio or fm stations in my car

I had G2 in the past and I use to listen music in my car, using Bluetooth connection to Pioneer head unit. I have Spotify premium account and I have my Playlist downloaded with the best quality. However once I got G6 a week ago I noticed that audio quality from the g6 with the same songs, same Playlist, same Spotify account, is not as good as it was with g2. So I did a short research and found a thread in the net where people reported the same problem.
A guy from the thread suggested to disconnect all other Bluetooth devices from the phone (like smart watch or band) and actually that solved my problem. I have MiBand2. Once I disconnected it the audio quality became as good as before.
So guys, if you have a smart watch, try to remove it and check the quality again. I hope that helps.
I went a couple of months with no issues on my Kia Optima, then suddenly, I started getting really bad aliasing on the highs. As said above, I turned off my Huwaei watch and the sound was normal again. After a bit, I turned my watch back on, and it remained fine.
I had it happen once again many weeks later; and again, a quick off - wait - on, cycle with the watch fixed it. So whatever it is, seems to be a bandwith allocation issue with the bluetooth software. From March '17 thorugh almost Sept '17 and I've only had to do this twice? I think I can live with this.
Hey heres something for you to try..
Download WiFi Scanner from App Store.. Look at your 2.4ghz networks.. then keep in mind your cordless phones, IP Cams, Walkie Talkies, baby monitors in your area.. You may be a victim of signal interference.
Bluetooth operates on the 2.4ghz spectrum along with a TON of other devices now available.
Your sony stereo may be the culprit.. if is an aftermarket "Xplod" deck
Im an audiophile, and my G6 runs better than my Samsungs.. (also no issues with the "preventative volume warning"
What you also may have is an app that is causing the volume to lower...
For example.. when i stream the music player with the stock app, sometimes Snapchat notification sounds cause the rest of the volume to be lower..
Google Maps is another one that can hijack the sound but you can control in settings.
For using music try a different app ( i use Maple Player) and it works great ..
Based on your experiences i think its something outside causing the problem to be honest. but thats ALOT of trial and error to deal with.. if worse comes to worse- you can always get an aux jack bluetooth adapter for your car stereo if it IS the stereos bluetooth receiver .
