hi,
doesn't work for 4.2.2 neither, right? I've tried with fw 14.1.G.2.257 and no root (or I'm missing something...)
how many times does the same question need to be answered on page 1?

For gathering and possibly sharing information from the system it was installed to without permissions. In other words it could be classified as malware.
That's what I know anyway, I never used vroot because of these rumors.
Edit: here's some news regarding vroot and also kingo - they were both banned from XDA at the same time
So i think this thread should be closed. Isn't it?

It used to collect (and possibly send) your phones imei to servers in china - before downloading the exploit to root the phone, not something a malware checker would/could check for
We have two tools to root our z1/zultra thanks to [NUT] and Bin4ry
As mentioned VROOT is not allowed on XDA. Mainly due to the collection of IMEIs, kingo root was the same however kingo dvelopers removed the collection of IMEIs once we contacted them, unfortunately VROOt have not got in contact to resolve our concerns.

Guys the OTA update For The latest update I.e. 12.0.A.2.245 is now available in around 70mb file package.
And best part Of OTA update is that you will not loose the root access like you loose the root in the update through pc companion.
I m from india and is on. 257 update
If you have unlocked boot loader DO NOT UPDATE OVER THE AIR YOU WILL BRICK THE DEVICE.

I live in Greece and i'm still on .257... Cannot install any updates and that sucks...
i wasn't eather, not trough the pc companion at least. if you're not sim locked just download global .245 package or german one perhaps, find it in a forum, and flash it via flashtool.

hi, where i find global generic .245
Thanks
i must confess I used the German one, but pretty much any .245 would work as long as it is for your specific model, 502 or 503, and if you do not mind using english in your device. 'cause no matter what region is intended for you can chose english for the device language.
Tried OTA update but installation failed. Not sure if is due to me removing the bloatware previously

As long you have rooted your phone whether locked or unlocked bootloader, OTA fails.

Does anyone know if there's a legit way to root s4 i337 MK2? I keep getting conflicting info.
I tried Kingo Root yesterday. So far it seems to be working great. During the process, I received several pop ups to install software that was considered potentially harmful. I cancelled each install and was still able to gain successful root. While prices was simple and took about 5 minutes.

In the mf3 thread they said kingo is not recommended. Is there a reason it's not? I used kingo on mf3 and if it works on mk2 without problems I'd like to use again as I don't need custom recovery or roms. But I'm afraid of att updating again and it screwing my phone,
At one point, it had malicious code in it that grabbed personal data.

Jeesh. It worked so well too. Wish it could be reversed engineered to see what they did to root.
To answer your question, No there is no verified safe method to root MK2 if you are not already rooted prior to update.

Do you know if anyone is working on a root for this update?
Kingo works for MK2. I can confirm it worked with no added instability or apparent issues on the 2 I337 devices I've messed with. But is it reliable? Well, it does send your IMEI to a Chinese server for some unknown reason. You can try Vroot if you want but it's definitely not as 'user friendly' if you catch my drift.

XDA evidently considers Kingo malware, so no link from here. But just type "kingo galaxy s4 root" into Google and it should be the top result. Their website states that it is for the i9500, but it has been confirmed for the i337. As always, USE THIS PROCEDURE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
We have a safe new root method if you guys want to try it. This is confirmed working on the VZW S4 but should work for you guys too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48392009

I'm trying to get it to work im on MK2 stock....I'm at work though so i'll report back if I get it done.
My warranty just ended and i wanted to try a one click root method. I saw a lot of samsung users on youtube using towelroot so I decided to try that. I downloaded the app, the first time i clicked make it rain, it read, phone is not currently supported. In the video discription it gave a different modstring for sprint model s4's. So i tried that, and i got the same message. None of the modstrings seem to work and ive tried many other root apps but i prefer towelroot. I dont have a computer on hand to use odin and i really want to use a one click method. How far away will the next update be to fix towel root and if not any other one click apps??
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you took the NG2 update, Towelroot won't work. That loophole is currently closed.
And don't ask when something will be updated. The devs here do this for free and have personal lives to worry about. They'll get updates out when they get updates out.
