Hi guys, that's it. Does anyone find that anoying?
It'll be awesome if some devs could delete that function. Videos keep searching for good focus when it isn't really necessary. Check this video to check what I'm talking about.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtE0GZ8AVGI
Can it be made? I mean, can it be ripped off? it is a kernel thing or functionality, I guess.
Thanks, I'm new to LG, got this phone on monday, version 805.

Supposedly xdabbeb's camera doesn't do that, but I don't have a custom recovery so I haven't flashed it to see if that's the case. I personally use an app called lgCamera (first letter is an L) in the Play Store and it doesn't have the autofocus "breathing" issue. I believe the stock video recorder is set to continuous auto focus, and it there's a way to disable that, then it would work fine. I got the same effect with lgCamera when I set auto focus to continuous.
Thanks I'll try that app and see it by myself. I guess it doesn't have the same features.

does it not have continuous autofocus already? i havent used the video recorder much, but if i recall right, there were some sorts of adjustments on the screen (which i assume is autofocus ) last time i recorded something.
Unfortunately there isn't
Is there any way to make camera apk form droid x2 work in milestone 2,
bringing continuous focus to it?
I got the phone on launch day at Verizon and really like it. The speed, screen and still camera have all really impressed me. However there are 3 issues that have me considering exchanging it.
1) Screeching during phone calls. I don't use my phone for voice calls that much, but when I do, it's extremely distracting with the digital screeching that happens every few seconds. It does it worse sometimes but I rarely complete a call screech free. Is everyone on Verizon experiencing the same thing? Should I exchange mine for another? Can/Will a software fix this?
2) Touchscreen issues. Often when I double click to zoom in on a webpage, the phone starts registering phantom touches and is basically impossible to use until it's rebooted.
3) Autofocus issue on video recording. This absolutely ruins videos for me. I can't believe they'd ship a phone with this bad of an issue and I can't believe the reviews didn't make a bigger deal out of it. Is there anyway a custom video recording app could fix it? Even if LG is working on a fix, Verizon wouldn't roll it out for months I'm sure.
Any help on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated.
1 - I'm not experiencing any screeching on Verizon calls. An update with newer radio firmware might fix this sort of thing, but that might be a ways away and I haven't seen any other reports of this.
2 - Sounds like a pretty serious problem, show a vzw rep and you should be able to swap it out after they try soft resets and whatever other troubleshooting they wanna do.
3 - I'm experiencing this as well, not often, but it made for a crappy 5 second span in a video of my cat rolling around in the laundry
1. Are you OTA either VZN or flashed in a custom rom?
2. I stopped doing it this way because of knock on. I just use pinch zoom now.
3. I haven't had the issue as long add I didn't try to take videos like I was filming Blair witch. Aka stand still. And if you video tape things getting closer and farther away it's going to refocus. I did start using manual focus on pictures though....1000x better. Many more keepers.

No screeching here either, but I havent made many calls, and none of them have been that long (this phone can really make calls too? I figured it was just a gaming and texting machine )
I find my touchscreen is very sensitive in the fact that I dont even have to TOUCH it to press a button, sometimes. Just hovering my finger close enough to the screen causes a touch.....this may not be unique to this phone, Ive just never noticed it on others. Doesnt worry me too much. There is a place to calibrate it in the settings, have you tried running that procedure?
The video thing is apparently common for LG phones. I believe a previous Optimus phone had the same problem and it was fixed via an update. I would expect the same to happen for the G2, eventually (or a third party dev fixes it for them )

havent had the first 2 problems but the third i have every time i record with my camera. for a phone that has optical image stabilization, you shouldnt have to be perfectly still to get the camera to focus. the OIS on this camera is not very good if it cant have alot of light coming in. so recording this like inside of a building where the lighting is not as bright as outside will result in a blurred video if you move. this is a big downside to the camera to me. it would have been alot better if they would have atleast made the video camera tap to focus. but there is not 1 focus settings when in video mode. you dont always get to be still especially when videoing things like your kids. it gets annoying real fast and i end up having to redo the video.

You CAN tap to focus in videos. It will even continue to track the object you tap on if it moves.

not on the Verizon version. when you tap the screen, it does absolutely nothing. the only tracking thing is that tracking zoom which is pointless.
you can't manually choose what to focus on in the video app

on my at&t lg g2 when in video mode you can not tap to focus. you can in picture mode but my original post was not talking about picture mode.
I think you can tap to focus on the korean variant. Sadly, I think the korean variant is much more powerful than the international one.

Really?? That's the version I have too. When I tap while recording video, it puts 2 blue brackets around the object. If I move in, that brackets grow larger and keep tracking the object. Vice versa too.
I did flash CleanROM, but I wasn't aware of any camera changes. I thought it worked like this even as stock.

Update there is,i will use it now and let you know.It might also be in yours and you dont know it ....like i didnt.
If you have set the 60fps video the feature doesnt work,it only works with the 30fps.Try it.It will work after you start the recording not before.

Yep, this is how mine is too. AT&T version. If you go into video mode, then options, then hit Reset, it should work after you start recording.

in 30 fps mode it has a tap to focus after you start recording, but in 60 fps it does not. this is what i also said in my original post. i was talking about 60 fps mode. why would you not have tap to focus in the best mode for the camera? they allow me to control other aspects in 60 fps mode but not focusing? that's something i dont understand. 60 fps mode is much smoother than 30 fps mode yet the camera doesnt have something as easy as any kind of focusing in 60 fps mode.

Hey all,
Sorry if this has came up before - given what the question is it wouldn't surprise me if it had!
Does anyone know what the, generally accepted as, best video recording app for our phones are? After coming from iOS, the camera functions are the only part of the phone that I'm finding it hard to match the iPhone.
I generally take a lot of videos and edit them. Mini-movies aren't aren't at all uncommon for me to film.
Whilst I'm still using my iPad for editing the films (iMovie and so on), I'm anxious to continue to use (and enjoy doing so) my S4 for video recording. My old 5S shot incredible video and even at lower resolution settings the output was generally smoother than the S4 shoots at the same settings.
If I'm stuck with the quality of the video recordings, that's fine and I'll make do. I would just prefer to find an app that can shoot at higher than stock bit rate etc and give me as many options (or close to) that the apps on iOS offers. I came to android as I absolutely LOVE using lollipop and the way it works is brilliant, so as said if I need to continue as I am that's fine. If it helps I'm using GPE 5.0.1 at the moment. Please not I'm not looking to start an iOS vs android discussion, just looking to find out what options I may or may not have and what I might be missing in the Play Store.
Thanks guys,
Pete

hey guys. probably the most of you who owns a LG G2 knows about its camera issues...
i got the d805 for 2 days already, already rooted and flashed cloudyg2 2.2 (i dont like LP) and i could notice how bad the camera is. i mean not in the rom specifically, cause in the stock rom was also bad...it really doesnt seem to be a 13MP camera.
so i want to know from you guys. have you ever done any kind of process to improve camera quality?
like taking out the resin film? (if you dont understood this, look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBRzMI7L45k)
what can i do to make the camera better?
waiting for your answers... cheers all :highfive:

On cloudy g2 go to the camera app and press settings. From there you need to turn in HDR idk why it is turned off by default and also you can change the camera to take 13 mp photos. As I said I do not know why they aren't default values but see if that help you.

exactly. there is a lot of video comparing the pictures taken before and after it was removed. it seems to make the pictures come out better, without that problem in the focus...
you can see on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JohNUNTcktM after 04:22.
most people says that this thing is the one who is behind bad quality pictures.

You can buy a new camera cover for like 2 euros on ebay and change it by yourself. And the quality come back.

The G6 has a fantastic offering in terms of its tele and wide lens. The stock app is very good. But the videos are too over-processed. Why? Cant LG engineers understand such a simple thing? How difficult it is to provide controls for saturation/sharpness/contrast (color profile) ? To my knowledge there are no custom/third party apps that does all that the stock app does and also provide these controls. Filmic pro does not provide setting 60fps at 1080p and there is doubt about other functions too. Hope LG is listening..
Well, the problem also persist on G7. So I don't think it will be fixed soon. Try HedgeCam2, it's pretty clean camera app, without any preprocessing.

Just tried it. Many bugs for video. Stabilization cant be turned on. Video goes blank from time to time, cant select between the two cameras.. So looks like we are stuck with their custom app..
What a shame LG. How can you miss such a basic feature in an otherwise wonderful app.
G7 has LG cinelog setting

The cinelog is an option that comes with G7 and V30. This can be enabled to get a much flat video with higher dynamic range. My understanding is this is the function of the AD converter that converts the voltages received from the sensor's photo receptors and converts it onto a digital form. LG make their own camera modules so they totally control this process.
The G6 doesnt have this camera module and so cant do it.
But LG is definitely on right track...
