VIBRATE BUG, when will samsung fix it!? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The note 3 (9005) has a really annoying bug of not accepting settings within an app to disable vibrate for notifications. Been having this issue since I swapped from my note 2 and now just updated firmware for the 3rd time and still no fix?
The bug: vibrate is enabled within the os settings..but disabled within notifications of particular apps for example gmail..
When an email is received, the phone would still vibrate. This same issue doesn't happen to samsung built in app. Only apps from the play store that is not written by samsung. I have the same issue with my work email app (Good for Enterprise) so makes me believe this is a Samsung android 4.3 is issue as I do not have this issue on my note 2 running android 4.2.2.
Anyone else having this bug? Is Samsung even aware of this? How can I log a bug report with samsung?
Thanks.

[Q] Vibrating for emails.

Hi
I can't figure out how to turn this off. Every other android phone didn't vibrate when I received an email. Would only play a notification sound if it was on loud. But the nexus keeps vibrating on every single email I receive. How to turn this off? But still receive notifications

I think its a bug with the latest gmail. It did it on my Gnex after the 4.2 update as well.

Same here. I disabled vibrate in gmail but it still does.

Having the same problem with the Email (not Gmail) app. I've set vibrate to off in the email settings, but when I have the phone on vibrate it vibrates regardless. Driving me bonkers.

It's a bug with both Gmail and Email app - documented at the link above.

From my side, it looks like it was working fine after the update, but as soon as I changed the notification settings in an app, the bug appeared for that particular app.

One person did mention reinstalling the app.

no way to fix,
killing app,
sign out and sign in again,
restart phone,
reinstall 4.2,
killing all google service and restart again,
tried all possibilities but no solution,
There is only one way, if u have "Stock 4.1.2 JZO54K" installing OTA pack
"http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_takju/e587de13bf8a.signed-takju-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.e587de13.zip"
no problem about vibration or anything else

But no one in that entire thread mentioned clearing app data. Now, if you reinstall the whole damn stock ROM with the linked zip (don't just don't, no need to be flashing radio to fix an app bug), it will of course clear app data as part of the install process, whereas just reinstalling the app over the old one won't.
So... did anyone who is having this issue, which supposedly is everyone (personally I've not noticed it because I have my phone set to vibrate when I get emails anyway), try clearing the app data?
I reported this here as well back on the 20th: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34513360
Figured it out!
Looks like the vibrate check box is just the wrong way around,
when un checked it is on, when checked it is off!
I was wanted to have them on and had the box checked and wasn't getting them, now I have unchecked the box it is vibrating on receiving a message
Unfortunately even with the latest update, my Gmail still demands to vibrate on new messages even when I have this set to off. Am I doing something wrong?
Weird its working for me. I went to settings > sound > notification conversion > unchecked it. Now when I receive an email on my gmail phone does not vibrate. Btw, i am using PA latest ROM.

maybe you have logined on several client, the hangouts will notify only one time!
I have the same issue across multiple accounts and devices. all unique accounts. all on latest stable software
Galaxy Nexus
Nexus 4
Nexus 10
Same here beyond annoying.
Notification Issues
I noticed that my lack of notifications was only happening with one contact. Everyone else who messaged me would come through just fine, but my wife's messages would come through without a peep. I finally did figure out what was wrong and wanted to share that here in case it helps any of you.
Specifically, although we'd installed and used Hangouts on her Nexus, in the Gmail desktop site, she hadn't click the "Try Hangouts Now" button (left click on your account's picture in the Gmail buddy list). Once I clicked that, all of her messages now resulted in notifications on my devices. Long story short, if you're having issues with notifications, see if the person messaging you is still using "Talk". A bit silly that Google didnt move her account over to Hangouts once she installed the mobile app, but oh well.
Hope this helps.
can I ask a stupid question - is hangouts allowing for text messaging now?

I just confirmed that "Hangouts" does allow instant messaging - it does not hit your text messages (but it does hit your data). the other person must also have "hangouts" installed too in order for you to communicate with them via this app

thanks for clearing some things up for certain users! but is anyone else experiencing this problem besides us.
I am experiencing this too, but seem to have noticed a trend. I do get notifications but only on the device that I most recently used to send the message (not both devices like it should). For example at 1 PM, I send a hangout message to another person from my Galaxy S3, they respond at 1:30 PM and it notifies my GS3 but not my Nexus 7. At 1:45 PM I then respond to their previous message from my Nexus 7, and they respond at 2 PM with only my Nexus 7 receiving the notification. Not sure if this is just coincidence but that's what I've noticed so far.
I'm on a Nexus 4 CM 10.1 (initially RC2, now most recent nightly) w/ Nova Launcher running and get no notifications that I've been messaged. In fact, if I chat with someone via Gmail and then check in the hangouts phone app, it will typically not include the chat that was done on my desktop. This is really irritating. Uninstalled updates back to talk for now.

I had same problem with Hangouts, it coming after upgrading to 4.4.4
What I've found on some forums and working for me:
1. Move all hangouts ogg giles from sdcard(emulated)/ ringtones to system/media/audio/ringtones
to do this you have to go to twrp , mount system and use file manager inside twrp
2. Got it working with :
Settings --> Sounds --> Volume --> Volumes --> Uncheck "Link ringtone and notification volumes".
Then an additional choice appears for the Notifications.
After that I started to get the sounds when notifications arrived. I rechecked the "Link ringtone and notifications" and the volume still worked.
Seems like something that needed to be initialized once.

[Q] No notifications with Sliding Messaging?

New to Sliding Messaging and like the UI but I'm not getting any notifications of SMS messages and worthless without it.
This was the only SMS other than stock that I had installed. After installation on my unrooted N3, I don't receive notifications at all... no led, vibrate or ringtone. Test notification in the settings of the app worked, but not when messages arrived.
I tried a number of settings within the app such as over-ride the stock app and still no go. In fact the stock SMS notifications stop working even after uninstalling SM. Notifications worked again after I installed handscent but I really just want SM working by itself.
A number of reviews mention similar problems but the developer who replys quickly just keeps blaming it on other SMS apps even after I told him there weren't any other ones installed prior to SM.
Anyone else using SM on the Note 3 having this problem or know of a fix?
Go to settings then security then notification access abs give it access. Not sure if that will work but worth a try.

Settings> App Manager >scroll right to "all" > Pick messages.
is it on? check show notifications
if you don't see it in "all" then its probably off and is in the "Turned OFF" section

This did it. Thanks for the help. Is this new to JB 4.3? I've never seen/needed this setting on my SGIII before.

Always On display does not show email icon?? using stock email client

I get the text message icons and missed calls but always just assumed it didn't currently support email. Now I am doubtful after seeing it mentioned. What could possibly be causing mine to not show email icons?
Mine stopped showing me any notifications at all, so I just turned it off.
Really? Damn. I keep hoping to see some update released for Aod to fix it or introduce 3rd party Support but oh well. I might just turn mine off too..

3rd Party Messaging Apps will not receive text

Hello All!
I've been having this problem for a few weeks now and im all out of ideas of what to do.
Carrier: T-Mobile
Wearable: S3 Rugged
Extra Service: DIGITS
Coming From: LGV20 which never had these issues with the same plans and accesories
So to start, when i got the phone inittially during setup of the google accounts i noticed that my OTP SMS Pushes were not being received, or auto filling the information. I skipped past all of that and noticed that anywhere that OTP text were suppose to autofill in different applications, it would not even when i received the text and got a notification.
So after a while of using TEXTRA which was working fine, one day i stopped receiving ALL text not just mms. I was able to send but never was I able to get anything from anyone. I ditched TEXTRA and went back to the stock Samsung app and noticed that all text were there, even though it was not default. After using the Samsung messages app i decided to go back to textra, heres whats funny. After Textra did it's initial setup, it only showed half of the recieved text from up to that day. Messages were incomplete, some just had one reply from a user and nothing else. So I also tried this with Android Messages and it had the EXACT same message log as textra. Both were not receiving the full logs from the server. Today Android Messaging was working for a good part of the day, then it just stopped all of sudden again.
Can someone help me with this, I've wiped the cache and factory reset the phone. Ive added and removed the multi-line settings in the samsung settings. I've tried the legacy settings on textra. I've called the DIGIT's customer service to see if they could fix it but they made and interesting point that it couldnt be digit because it wouldnt interfere with 3rd part messaging apps. When i switch apps i always make them default, i wipe the app cache etc.
I have a gut feeling this has something to do with something with the default Samsung Messages app and it somehow restricting use outside of it.
I just wanted to reply and say that I've been experiencing the exact same issue and haven't had any luck Google engineering my way around it. For me, I'm seeing the issue with Signal, so I don't believe it's the 3rd party app's problem. I can send messages (SMS/MMS), but the Samsung Messages app is the only one that "receives" them. A strange workaround I found was to download Android Messenger, set that as the default messaging app, then set Signal as the default messaging app again. This worked for a while, but I think the Samsung Messages app recently updated, and it broke this again until I repeated the above workaround.
It's annoying enough that, without a fix, I'll definitely be flashing a completely stripped ROM on this phone once we have the ability to do so to get away from all of the Samsung apps that I can't disable. And don't even get me started on Bixby...

I haven't had any issues with my At&t model...Been using Yaata since day one (about 2 months).
Also, there are some "package disabling" apps in the play store that will allow you to disable any app you want, you don't even need to be rooted. It cost me $1.99 (or around there), but was well worth it! You can even completely disable Bixby, so the button is even non-responsive.
Having the same issue and I may have fixed it. I logged completely out of Digits on the phone (settings/cloud accounts/multi line/hit the ... menu and choose log out.
I have this same issue. No matter which 3rd party SMS app I use I have missing text messages on the T-Mobile S8. Has anyone fixed this? It is driving me crazy. T-Mobile replaced my S8 and the new one does it (not as bad but it does it more than I'd like). How can I resolve this? My friend haf the same issue, he has an unlocked T-Mobile working on AT&T.
I don't use Digits or anything like that... any ideas?
hi guys
all you need to do
go to setings
device maintence
battery
scrool all the way down to unmonitored apps and add your 3rd party sms app
youre welcome
This still didn't work for me and I am having the same exact issues. I have tried installing 2 different 3rd party messaging (Textra and Mood) and both were not working properly. I can send messages out just fine but when I receive them they are delayed (like 5 minutes or longer). Sometimes, I don't get the messages at all. Of course, the Samsung Messaging app (which I hate) works just fine. I have even "Force Stopped" it! What to do?
go into the stock messaging app, and turn off advanced messaging
Has anyone found a solution? I've been using textra for years & suddenly in March I started having this problem but with sent messages. All incoming texts are displayed but my sent texts aren't. I did try the 2 suggestions above. On a note 8, Android 8.0.0,Samsung experience 9.0.
SOLVED. I had the same issues and found the solution. Before you install your 3rd party sms/MMS you need to disable the default messenger. I uninstalled signal, disabled the built-in messenger, reinstalled signal. Now I can receive texts. Also my phone is not a Samsung.
