Hi,
My job has an exchange policy which has crippled my phone - in the sense that I hate having to type in a password every time I want to use it.
Is there any way to circumvent this? I was thinking maybe setting up a small Exchange server with a policy that says PIN codes are *not* acceptable If not, are there other programs out there that can replace the lock?
Cheers!
I believe you can use another exchange email app that doesn't require this.
Or maybe a custom rom can do the trick? I'm looking for this my self at the moment, but I haven't rooted & flashed my phone yet (it seems a bit more tricky then on the Nexus One)

Thanks, but I was hoping to do it without rooting. Last time I had a hell of a time installing the official patch from Samsung...
I'm a samsung Dive User. My phone was stolen, and recovered thanks to that.
I know there are ways to bypass that (not going to discuss that here) but they require some knowledge that's not available to common users.
Recently, i found that in the Stock ICS, it's possible to remove the samsung account without any effort. just click remove. that's a serious issue, since it's supposed to be a security feature, it should be difficult (almost impossible) to remove. Users rely on that in case of loosing their devices.
GB didn't let you remove the samsung account without wiping, and didn't let you wipe (in the documented way) the phone without the account's password.
if you try to wipe the stock ICS, it will warn you to remove the samsung account, witch you can do (As instructed by the wipe dialog) just removing it
Samsung need to fix this, but, since they do (if they do it) users should be aware of that, and know they are not secure just with samsung dive.

Really? I'm trying right now: you need to enter the password to disable remote controls and you simply cannot remove the Samsung account without a factory wipe (like the primary Google account).

I can just go to account and click remove... and it goes away. I tried this in a few stock ICS versions. LPQ, LPS, LP4, and LP7
In GB, it works as you describe

If anyone else can confirm this behavior, please reply.
Am i the only one with this behavior?

I never used such features but there might be an option u will have to enable to make it ask for a password?

I confirm in ICS ; u can remove samsung account without any password and bcuz of that I revert to GB last month... Although there was other problem aswell
Yep, on XWLP8 and you can simply remove the Samsung account removing Dive / remote control features... sigh

LP9 Singapore is the same. Account can be removed without even beying asked for a password.
This needs to be adressed to Samsung
Tried it on LP8, yeah easily removed, guess locking the screen with pattern or pin is necessary if you don't want someone to remove it.
And who the hell rate this thread at one star when it brings up valid security issue? Seems we have some one star ninjas who go around just to crap on threads.
Thanks to all that confirmed this issue... This os a big issue

Hi, I'm trying to activate de dive features on ICS stock 4.0.4 and I don't find the "remote" setting.

Other down point is that now when you use it, messages appear on the device's notification bar: "find my mobile" ... "found by samsung". It's just missing messages like "turn off the phone now, cops'll be here soon", or even better: "wipe samsung account and do a factory reset immediately if you want to keep this mobile for yourself"

Same here with 4.0.3 LPD; somehow, overnight, my phone lost many of its settings, including the 'remote controls' and 'SIM change alert' settings for DIVE. Attempting to enable them resulted in a wait pop-up for a bit, then they automatically unticked. I was able to delete my Samsung account as the OP describes; when I re-created it, 'remote controls' was automatically re-enabled, and I could enable 'SIM change alert'. DIVE's "Ring My Mobile" function doesn't work any more though. It didn't work with GB 2.3.5, and started working again after I upgraded to ICS 4.0.3 LPD.
Is Samsung's firmware the buggiest in the business, or what?
in ics and jb it's gone like never exist .
i tried anti virus's but they removed with wipe too.
is there any way to stop wiping?
Remote controls are present in XWLPT. Trying to untick them requires the Samsung account password to be entered

As an "exercise in personal growth" (and also to let the rooting, rom, Knox, stuff shake out) I'm giving it a go staying stock.
It actually isn't half bad and I'm down to two last minor problems that I can't figure out and I'm hoping someone has some wisdom to impart.
1. How do I disable automatic contact linking? My business partner and my company got linked because they shared both an address and a phone number. I fixed that but I don't know what else has been auto-linked. (Even just within Google contacts... I'm not talking about Facebook/Google linking but I wouldn't want that either)
2. How can I get the weather to show on the Lock Screen? CyanogenMod it was "just there" (at least I don't remember having to add it)
Thanks in advance if anyone can help!
P.S. As I mentioned I'm trying to stay stock if possible. I realize I could probably do at least the weather with rooting and installing something and I am open to rooting if absolutely necessary.
Check out "Chronus - Home and Lock widget" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dvtonder.chronus
Might not work if you have security on your lock screen though. Samsung in their infinite wisdom really messed up the vanilla Android lock screen.

Yeah... I can't get it to work... At least not in any "obvious" way. (Long clicking, etc).
And I have to agree with you... I'm assuming that an S-View case isn't going to work with any security enabled either?
If so, it really sucks that "premier headlining" features don't work with security enabled.

I have been enjoying Moto X to the fullest, with a bunch of small features that make my life easy while using an android. Enter the villain -> Activesync.
The problem with Activesync is that it has a bunch of rules that do not allow me to use:
1. Keep device unlocked when connected to trusted BT
2. Widgets in lockscreen
3. Twist to open camera
I have tried a bunch of Activesync apps that kinda sandboxes corporate email allowing me to bypass administrative rules. The problem with them is that they are all ugly as hell and are each $19.99. I refuse to pay that price for such crappy apps.
Today I tried a bunch Activesync apps with clean and friendly UI but they have a similar problem as the native app, the administrative rules.
So, is there anyway I can get the best of both worlds?

If you're using it for work, then those rules are being pushed by your employer. Bypassing them would mean you're ignoring their data security policy. Something to think about if you value your continued employment.
Having said that, Divide is a fully containerized app that has a decent looking UI, though I found it a bit of a battery hog.
Also, not tried it myself, but Mailwise has the ability (for now) to ignore activesync rules.
Enhanced Email does what you're asking - it's $9.99. Not beautiful, not ugly, somewhere in between. I've also used Divide which was already mentioned. It did slow down my device a little and eat some battery, but it's ok especially if you're looking for that Gingerbread look...
Personally prefer EE because it gives full native integration with my Android calendar app, showing business and private appointments in one place..

I can't get that to work. However it says it works on 4.4.2 which I don't have.
I use mailwise.

yes, I am using it on 4.4.2
on 4.4 this works http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531793 not Xposed and you need root
Does anybody know how apps that use your fingerprint to login will be dealing with the situation that there is no longer a fingerprint reader on the pixel?
Thanks
Nick
Face unlock.
Hi @sic0048,
Thanks for your answer. This is exactly what I presumed. I was wondering if any apps which are now using fingerprints for logging in, will work straight out of the box. Or will the app developers have to program in support for face unlock. In other words will for example banking apps work directly after the pixel4 is released or will one have to wait till these apps (and it is quite a few) are updated.
bye
nick
I'm not a developer, but my guess is that the unlocking is always handled by the phone, regardless of method. The app is told when it is unlocked, not how. So I suspect it will work out of the box.

The API will probably be a generic biometric check which could be fingerprint, face, voice or whatever. It would be over complicated to specify a particular type, rather that the secure service in Android trusts the process used. There is a section in security for trusted services
An exposed mod allows you to trick all apps into using face unlock. If your OK with rooting your phone then the problem is solved.
