Is there a root for 4.3 out yet? I updated my stock phone and can't find a new root method for this stock rom. Thanks
Yep...search in android section of the s4 and find CF auto root. Chain fire set it up for us.
Make sure you hit thanks while you're there!!!

Hi guys, i currently have an s2 rooted and with pac rom on it, its been a long time since i just rooted without using a custom rom though.
I am getting an s4 tomorrow and what i wanted to know is, can i just root my s4 and keep my current android version and then still have access to updates via kies?
At the moment i dont want to use any custom roms but want the root access.
Is there a preferred way to root the s4 that is currently recommended and fail safe?
I am in the UK if that matters at all?
thanks for any tips.
James
you will loose root access if update
you actually can update it manually with kies over usb. it will be unrooted afgerwards though
depending on your software version you can use the motochopper (mega easy) or the cf autoroot (slightly less easy)
As mentioned by Uhu, I can confirm that rooting and then using Kies will allow you to update - but you lose root and have to re-root.
Thank you very much for the info, would the cf auto root be the better option?

Wil my att s4 stay sim unlocked after firmware update?
Hey guys, I've done a lot of searching in this forum and found a lot of conflicting answers, so decided to start a fresh thread. I've been on 4.2.2/MF3 for a while now running Safetrap. I'm looking to take the OTA from AT&T and upgrade to 4.3.
I havent seen any root methods for 4.3 yet, but the question is, can I upgrade to 4.3 and retain root if I am running the latest version of SuperSU Pro with survival mode enabled?
A custom recovery with the option for installing ROMs is not needed, especially since I havent been able to do that since I updated to MF3. All I need is to keep root under 4.3 and I'll be more than happy, thanks!

This is my exact question. I just need some concrete answer as to yes or no... but as you said way too many conflicting answers!
YES.
I used "Survival mode" and it worked for me.

Hi so there is a way to update stock to 4.3 and continue using safestrap to run 4.2.2 roms????I would doubt that with what Ive read so far.

I too can confirm this works using Survival Mode from SuperSU Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu.pro&hl=en).
Now, that being said, being a very big noob myself (switching over from heavily tweaked jailbroken iPhone 5), I did this, all was well, I thought I had some issues with some apps and thought 'hmm... maybe I'll just downgrade to MF3 and see if the problem is fixed'. Yeah, attempting to do that with Odin has left me soft-bricked, but for all intents and purposes (that I can tell) it's actually hard-bricked 'cause Kies did nothing, Odin does nothing, if I understand things correctly the only thing that could possibly help is if we had the MD5's available to us for MK2, which, my searching is coming up empty. So, point is according to what I can tell, if you go MK2, there is NO going back to 4.2.2, so use caution.
So just an important safety tip there (unless someone wants to correct my noobness).
Yes. I can confirm that enabling "survival mode" in SuperSU and updating will keep your root; i did this on my pphone coming from MF3.
However, with that being said, i quickly unrooted from there because i had issues with MMS/messaging and phone calls not being recieved, and i did not want to reset my phone. If you run into similar issues as i am not the only one reporting those issues you can so a reset on your data (your root will not be affected, you will be rooted after the reset) or an unroot will work.
happy updating

First with Safestrap you CAN flash Roms. It is just limited to about 10 or so Roms that will work as they need to be 4.2.2 based.
Now with that said for those that ONLY want root on MK2 then someone in the Verizon thread has a WORKING ROOT available for MK2 4.3 firmware here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 and it DOESN'T come with the maliscious code that Kango and VRoot does. This DOES NOT give you recovery but it does give root. So thank the OP in that thread for helping out the community. I did and I HOPE I will never need to use it!!!
Good luck and Happy Rooting...

Finally got Kingo root to work, switched over to CF's SuperSU, etc.
Currently running Android 4.3, MJ7 Build, SM-N900V
Is there a way I can keep root? And is there any special way that I need to flash a ROM or is it the standard wipe and flash even though I'm switching android versions?
Thanks, XDA.

if you update to kk you will loose root
unless you trip knox, with a custom recovery for example.

If you have Knox 0x0 then look at the Mobile Odin Pro thread here on N9005 - also ideally start looking after such a thread in the Verizon forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3
(or start one - if I am not mistaken the locked Verizon bootloader could create extra problems and everything would be nice to be documented somewhere).

I guess I'll just wait until there's a for sure way I can keep root/get root back, but I'll for sure look into it on the Verizon Note forum.
Currently have SafeStrap after rooting with Kingo, not sure if that counts as a custom recovery (I don't know if holding down on volume and home when booting brings me to SafeStrap as I haven't tried yet, so I'm not sure if that's my recovery or if it's just some secondary recovery type deal).
Thanks everyone
I reccently purchased a Note 3 from Verizon back in April. It came with and still has 4.3. I have not recieved an OTA for Kit Kat from Verizon yet. I came from a Rooted Droid Razr. I have never flashed any ROMS. I do want to Root my Note 3 to be able to run all the Root apps I have purchased. I have a couple questions and would really appreciate if anyone could answer them for me. I am familiar with Root but Im no Pro. Again I have Never Flashed any Roms or anything.
#1 I have heard of two ways to Root the Note 3, KINGO & ODIN. Which method is the Best to use. I did see a Root method on XDA if you want to go to Kit Kat with the ability to go back to 4.3. As of right now I dont want KIT KAT bc of the SD card issues I've read about. I really just want 4.3 Rooted. Unless I am advised otherwise. Im really not sure what would be the best thing to do.
#2 Once I have Rooted my Note 3. If and When Verizon sends the OTA for Kit Kat. What should I do? Not take it? Want I have to dismiss it every 12 hour? That could get annoying.
#3 Whatever Root method you advise me. Can you leave me a Link to the Files and the Instructions on how to Root it? Thanks for any help. Jason

If you are on MJ9 baseband you can use the Odin method for root but if you are on MJE you will have to use Kingo 1.1.8 or lower to root. Once you have root on MJE you can go up to the NC2 KitKat leak and the SD card issue is fixed and the VZW OTA is disabled. You can disable the OTA on 4.3 by disabling or deleting SDM1 client.

How do I know if I am on MJ9 or MJE? I looked throught my phones "About Phone" the only thing I can find close to that is the "Baseband Version" and mine is N900VVRUBMJE. Also the "Build Number" section ends in MJE. Im guessing this mean I am on the MJE. Right?

I have an AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337. I was so excited about the update to lollipop that I un-rooted my phone and downloaded it as soon as I could. I am enjoying it, but I miss root access. Has anyone come up with a way gain root access with this new update? I know with the 4.4.4 update we could flash the old kernel and use towel root, any chance something like that would work for this version?
If this is being dealt with in another thread I apologize, I did look.
Try TowelRoot APK https://towelroot.com/

Please hit the thanks button if it worked
I'm interested in knowing how it turns out for you if you try towelroot. I got the lolipop update on my tab, and I'm liking it. However, I like having root so I haven't plunged in with my S4 yet, been doing some reading first.

Towle Root hasn't worked for the last few at&t updates. It's awesome but outdated.
Odin back to nb1, then root, then follow the instructions listed here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814
