I just picked up an S4 that has not been upgraded to 4.3 and Knox, this phone will be for my wife and I will root it and it needs wireless/wifi tether. I would like for her to be on the latest 4.3 ROM with root and that is all.
So, which way should I upgrade?
OTA to 4.3 and have a knox bootloader and then root the phone using CFautoroot? (not sure if this method sticks from what I have read)
Root the 4.2.2 and keep bootloader same, flash recovery (which one?) and then flash stock 4.3 rom? (I am not sure how to do this yet)?
I am coming from a Sprint SII (I have a Nexus 5 now though) so I am familiar with using Odin and flashing but that phone had the kernel and recovery in one and this phone has them separate.
Thanks and any tips would be appreciated, I will be going over this forum tonight when I get home from work but of course would like some immediate help/info, which is why I am asking before searching.
Thanks

Personally, I never perform upgrades via OTA. Root the device if you haven't already,
I recommend you flash the firmware/modem-only--this will keep from having the bootloader locked with knox. You can get it from Unknownforce here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42954144.
Install the latest version of TWRP then install a custom ROM. I highly recommend Sacs ROM
hello friends
can some one tell me how can i root s 5 sm g900h variant with latest stock frimware {XXU1ANG3}
cos i was not able to root it with cf auto root file that i used earlier
it stoped on cache in odin and i have to reflash frimware again to make my phone alright again
also what will happen if i check re partition in odin before flashing stock rom
i mean will it completely reset phone cos after failed root when i reflashed latest frimware i got frimware flashed but i had all same settings and even wallpaper from before { i did not have to set up my phone again like entering email and clicking yes
thanks in advance :good::good:
Still not searching before posting, my friend?
Back up your phone. Then revert to an earlier stock build of 4.4.2 for your 900H that is still amenable to the CF auto root exploit.
You should know by now that there are no assurances of retaining root when upgrading. Since you seem set on upgrading, buy Mobile Odin Pro or Super Su Pro and use their features to (usually) retain root after an upgrade. For best results you should be doing the upgrade manually, not OTA.
Good luck.

Back up your phone. Then Install a pre-June 3rd build of 4.4.2 100% stock firmware for your 900H. Root using Towel root.

Apologies for the typo on my part. Disregard the Towel root /pre-June 3rd part. I meant to say revert to an earlier build of 4.4.2 firmware that CF auto root will still work on since you have a 900H.
I'm not sure what you mean by repartitioning though. Who suggested repartitioning?

Q&A for [GT-I9505 + GT-I9505G] CF-Auto-Root

My phone is still in download mode & didn't reboot yet. What can I do to not brick my phone? If you need some more information, just tell me.
Kind regards.
//edit: Problem solved - battery removed & turned it on again. :good:
Rooting my device
Hello,
I am going to purchase an S4, I9505 and I would like to root the phone, just simply because I want to remove a bloatware apps and gain true control of the device.
My question is - if I follow the instructions in the first 3 posts to letter, how much is the chance to brick the phone? The phone is already on 4.4.2. Do I need to do anything else, or just follow the guide?
I know its a silly question, but I am going to spend some money on the device, and don't want to brick it...
Thank you in advance!

0,0000000001%. It's almost impossible to brick your phone.
Root have stopped working.
I9505, 4.2.2, XXUAMDE.
The phone have been rooted for more than a year.
Yesterday I tried "Wondershare\Dr.Fone for Android" as some smemo have been lost. Im not 100% sure this is why the root was lost.
Today I downloaded CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar.md5 and re-rooted using Odin3.
The process seemed to run fine - but SuperSu cant start - get the "no binary fil installed" error.
What can I do?

Will CF Auto Root work on an S4 (Android 4.4.2) with the baseband version I9505XXUGNJ3? I really can't afford a new phone but I want to root this one so I'm taking as many precautions as possible. Thanks.

I would install a custom recovery and get the root access through this one. Everytime I made that this way, works pretty good. I'm always using philz touch recovery

Thanks, I'll try that when I get access to a computer. I wasn't expecting an answer so quickly since the last post was on the 21st of November with no reply, so thanks.

I'll try auto root first and if that doesn't work for whatever reason, I'll try the rom mentioned earlier.
Hi!
I am willing to root my Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 (brand-Vodafone Italy and running XXUGNJ5 firmware) using CF Auto-Root, in order to flash TWRP and Google Edition ROM on it.
It is not a network-locked smartphone, but just "branded" (it gets some easily uninstallable Vodafone bloatware each time I update it via OTA, however I can use whatever SIM I want in it): is it risky for me to root it using Chainfire Auto-Root?
Rooting a nordic s4
I got a nordic s4.
Xxugnj8 4.4.2. I OTA 1 week ago.
Will it work to root with the correct file from CF webpage?
And what will happen with that knox thing? I dont use knox and i disabled what i could so far. I jist want root. Dont wanna mess around with kernels and roms. Cause of bad experience.
I read some people gets random reboots and so.
Rooted s2 long time ago and bricked it cause some bug.
Then rooted a s3. Worked with a charm with cf autoroot.

Rooting I9505G running LRX21P
Hi all,
I tried rooting my I9505G running Lollipop 5.0.0 LRX21P. I used ODIN and CF-Auto-root. SuperSu now wants to update, but the update fails.
I later realized that the CF version I used was not meant for Lollipop. Thankfully, my device is still working normally.
Any ideas on how to root?
Thanks a ton!
Hi, I'm new to Samsung and just wanted to know if anyone has been able to successfully root XXUFNC5? I got 4.4.2 and Knox running on it.
installation aborted. symlink: some symlinks failed (status 7)
and keeps rebooting to recovery

Thanks in advance.

You cannot OTA update since you have rooted. You can only download stock firmware and flash via Odin. And yes, you have to root again, also via Odin.
A new (custom) rom is another option, I have no idea with it.
For the time being, I would browse the Note 3 Android Development forum and see if a custom ROM is what you want. If it is, then by all means go ahead and flash one. If not, then upgrading to 4.4.2 and rooting is the best bet. Personally, I was on stock 4.4.2 rooted, and it didn't take long for me to flash a custom ROM. I'm on my third custom ROM in a month, so it can definitely get addicting.
You can update via OTA.
Thereafter, flash the old kernel xxund3.
root via towel root, and reflash the Kernel that came with the OTA update.
All via Odin. I don't think there's any way to do it, yet, and at the same time keeping knox 0x0.

Cheers!
I have an AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337. I was so excited about the update to lollipop that I un-rooted my phone and downloaded it as soon as I could. I am enjoying it, but I miss root access. Has anyone come up with a way gain root access with this new update? I know with the 4.4.4 update we could flash the old kernel and use towel root, any chance something like that would work for this version?
If this is being dealt with in another thread I apologize, I did look.
Try TowelRoot APK https://towelroot.com/

Please hit the thanks button if it worked
I'm interested in knowing how it turns out for you if you try towelroot. I got the lolipop update on my tab, and I'm liking it. However, I like having root so I haven't plunged in with my S4 yet, been doing some reading first.

Towle Root hasn't worked for the last few at&t updates. It's awesome but outdated.
Odin back to nb1, then root, then follow the instructions listed here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814
