Ok let me start off by saying I am NOT a dev. I am just a normal guy who can ocasionally follow instructions off the internet. I was able to get MIUI for the i9000 booted on my Captivate. This MIUI rom is ported over from the Nexus.
All I did was followed the instructions from the MIUI thread in the i9000 forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992251
Just subsitute the captivate equivalent files from CM7. After you do these steps and Flash MIUI Beta 3 it will install a i9000 kernel and modem. You will have to go after the initial steps and install a captivate CM7 Kernel and Modem.
I wont be updating this thread, because I don't have the time. If a Dev wants to streamline this more for the captivate please do. I just wanted to share some info on how I got the MIUI from the i9000 thread running on my captivate. Fill free to use this thread for any MIUI related banter that can further help this Rom run smoother on our phones.
what are the bugs?
like I said I wont be updating this thread at all. I just wanted to let some know that it is possible to get it working on the captivate. to get a full bug list you will either have to install the rom yourself and figure out or wait for someone to report a list. what I have seen so far though is ringtones, and autorotation. I haven't played with it too much, but I was able to fix the ringtone issue be using a rintone app from the market download a ringtone. Also I believe the i9000 thread has a what is and what isn't working list also.
For people who where begging for MIUI this looks to have allot more promise. And it is gingerbread. Have not tried it out yet
CM7
I installed it on my Captivate and its actually running pretty smoothly, in fact its actually pretty fast I haven't even seen any lag. I'm on beta 4.
Here is what works:
-Texting
-Wi-fi
-Browser
-SD cards
Not working:
-I'm having problems downloading apps from the market, they don't seem to be downloading but if download the app you want then reboot the phone the app will be successfully installed.
-The sound only works if you plug the headphones into the phone and when you do that the sound comes from the speaker and not the headphones, however if you plug the headphones only about half way in then the sound will come out of the headphones.
-The sound problem does have an effect with the phone calls because the person on the other line can hear you but you can't hear them on the account of the headphones not being plugged in.
-The back key and search key are not working I guess because its made for another phone but idk. The home key acts as a back key. The menu key works fine.
-If you want to auto-rotate the screen then you'll have to go to the notification bar and tap the auto-rotate icon to turn it on, it does not automatically do it when you turn your phone over.
That's all I got, idk if there is a setting for the sound problem or something but I can't get it to work properly.
Just wanted to tell you guys how much Miui was working on our cappys and hopefully it can be fully working rom in some time.

This looks promising. Don't most i9000 ROMs have these issues when installed as-is onto a Captivate? Seems like it could be ported over just like most other i9000 ROMs.
But then again I'm no dev, and I could be completely and terribly wrong.
Did you install the CM7 cappy kernel?

are you talking about the cm7-captivate-initial-kernel? or something else?
Cappy kernel needs to be reflashed.

Any CM7 kernel should work as long as it is for the captivate.
Ok so ill reflash that...Ill also have to flash a cm7 modem right? know where I can find that?
Go to the cm7 thread, and go to teamhacksungs website. Should be a full list of modems.

Yes, you can find it all from the CM7 download site. you can find the link in the CM7 thread.
so is anyone else trying this? The rom I mean

I tried it yesterday, hence the reason for this thread lol, but didn't really like it. Went back to CM7 with launcherpro plus. I missed my LP Plus widgets too much.
lol im just suprised how this thread isnt that popular
It'll get more popular as things get sorted out with the ROM itself. I've been running it for the last couple days (since beta 2), and if you install the CM7 Captivate kernel and a compatible modem (I like JL3), it's really pretty stable. The apps don't see media files, and afaik there are still some SD card issues, but if you can get past those it's not that hard to use as a daily.

It was/is very much a daily driver since data/phone/wifi all work, I just didn't like the feel of it. It took me back to my iPhone days which started to scare me a bit. lol
Yep I think jl3 works the best, I now have the rom pretty much fully functional and I just installed another media player app so it could find my music. MIUI is really amazing looking
Eh it does look like the iphone kind of but I was just getting tired of all the same "looking" roms and wanted something different
Interesting. CM7 has been without a nightly for a few days, I'm up for something new
So once we get the i9000 version running, just go into odin and flash a CM7 captivate kernel/modem? That should fix all the i9000->captivate issues, correct?
Ok I'm not a complete newb but I can't figure this out and its been driving me nuts for over a week now...
SGH-1337M (Rogers)
Up until last week I'd been running the nightly builds of CyanogenMod and loving it, the phone was fast had lots of functionality then I did a nightly upgrade and my phone stopped working. Incoming calls would ring but when I picked up the call I couldn't hear the caller and they couldn't hear me. After much frustration I ended up flashing back to stock. This fixed the problem but the phone was useless as far as I was concerned for everything but making phone calls. It was laggy, I couldn't listen to music (it was staticy) and just generally full of all of the extraneous crud that Rogers seemed to think I should have on my phone. (I honestly couldn't suggest the phone to anyone who was going to run it as a stock device if this was how it came out of the box!)
Now On Sunday I decided to try again and after setting everything back to defaults I reloaded Cyanogen and at first it seemed that things were working properly... until last night. Again I got a call and when I answered it there was no audio.
I can't figure it out, I'm running the correct radio now after flashing to stock (I337MVLUAMG1) but I just can't seem to get it to work and stay working. Besides Cyanogen I'm only running two other "root" apps Fantastic audio installer and AdAway.
Any suggestions would be great, I just can't go back to stock on this phone...
Any ideas?
I think I have the problem figured out...
Seems like it was a combination of a bad build of CM and the "Fantastic Audio Installer"
Beware of compatibility issues with apps like this...
Hi everyone,
I bought my nexus 4 about a year ago, and very recently I decided to give Cyanogenmod a try. I must say this was the first custom ROM I flashed on my device, and I'm quite fond of it. I also flashed a modified version of the latest franco.kernel for CM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53707610&postcount=459)
The thing is that I noticed that my phone doesn't vibrate when it's supposed to. In fact, it doesn't vibrate at all; no matter what I try, it just doesn't. For the record, it had been working flawlessly until a few days ago.
So far I've tried:
- Disabling/Enabling vibration in keyboard, notifications and calls
- Rebooting my device several times
- Updating to 20140723 nightly (I was previously on M8)
- Disabling quiet hours
I've been doing some reading, and some old threads advise to perform a factory reset, but it's kind of a hassle for me to re-sync all the photos and stuff. So, is there anything I should try before I do a factory reset? Should I try and flash a different kernel/go back to stock kernel?
Thanks
It's most likely a hardware issue. I'd backup the phone and then flash the factory image. If it still doesn't vibrate it's a hardware issue. It doesn't cost much to replace the vibrator. Do it yourself or find a local cell repair shop.

I would rather change the kernel first and see if there is any issues.
I flashed the latest CM nightly, which also changes the kernel to CM stock. This time you can hear the little buzz when you turn on the phone, but that's pretty much all the vibration I get. Phone calls and haptic feedback still don't work. At least, I know it's not a hardware issue.

I still think it's hardware. Roms can change the force it vibrates at. But if it's still low the vibrator is bad.

Maybe I wasn't very clear; the vibration force is OK, but the thing it that it only vibrates on startup, it doesn't buzz in incoming calls or any of that. So that's why I think the vibrator isn't broken
I have tried many times now to use CM or ASOP roms and their like and I find that I consistently have the same problem: no phone calls in (I would boot the rom and then call my cell from my house), can't hang up after a phone call and lousy GPS.
I don't have these problems when using a stock (Touch Wiz) based ROM.
Why is this?
Clearly it's a software issue, what could possibly be missing in the various roms that would make this happen?

Software version L720VPUFNAE
Hardware version L720 08
I'm running team acheron's super s4 right now and I therefore cannot update the prl or profile,
I'm international right now (in Israel) and I therefore used the radio unlock method from the forum here to unlock to phone for GSM and UMTS usage.

Has anyone experienced this problem and has suggestions as to how to fix it?
Thanks
I flash a LOT of roms. Sometimes two or three a day. (I am going to meetings but I will always be a flashaholic.) I am almost constantly on AOSP because I do not like how clunky TW feels and there are about three or four things an AOSP rom does easily that you cannot do easily or at all on TW. I have had all of the problems you mentioned at one time or another but never all at once. When I first bought my SG4 and started flashing roms the GPS was a big issue but that problem is pretty much nonexistent now. The same with the inability to make a call. I have not seen that in awhile. I recently flashed a rom that I thought was running perfectly until I made a phone call and could not get the phone to hang up. I had to reboot to get the phone to disconnect. That was the first and only rom I have had that problem with. I think I reinstalled it a few days later after it had been updated and it worked fine.
Other things I have noticed is that Google's voice recongition does not work as well on AOSP roms and there can sometimes be a problem with MMS.
I say all of this to say that first, these roms are in development. They are not perfect. They sometimes have problems. If a rom has a glitch you cannot live with, go to a different rom.
Next, you have to follow the installation instructions to the letter. If it says to stand on one foot while installing the rom do it. I have seen some roms that have really weird install instruction but if you do not do it, the rom is not going to work. Acheron's Super S4 has you use specific recoveries and reboot into recovery. That is a little odd.
Next, if you feel you are constantly having these problems with all AOSP roms, which is odd, try flashing a stable version. CM has milestones. I know Liquid Smooth has an official 3.1 that is supposed to be very stable. See if you have these problems are more stable versions and instead of nightlys.
Next, I have seen people on the exact same model phone and carrier have greatly different experience with a rom. Individual phones seems to have their own quirks you have to learn. I believe most of this type of issue though is user error and you just don't realize you are doing something wrong.
Finally, the one thing I know nothing about is unlocking your phone for the international version. I wonder if that has anything to do with your problems.
Good luck and don't give up!

Great ROM!
Beautiful ROM man, I'll be following the development. I'll test out a couple of fixes I found from beta testing my ancient Optimus S.
I posted directly to the blog, but I like following on the forums better
Quickest install I've ever seen.
No problems on NOOP. No lag that I notice.
One question, for the masses or developer. Any thoughts on how to root this sucker? I did the "sustain root" on CWM, I switched the root access on the settings to ADB and app.
Can't figure out how to get root though. Thrown various APKs at it, everyone gets a blocked install (third party apps is enabled too).
Easy root? and minimal Gapps working
Greetings all,
I tested this app package, it's much smaller than the primary app package. Store is working, no errors thrown up. Yet, I've been running for about 30 minutes now, and installed root checker, again, no errors. 5.0 is tested.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-google-apps-minimal-edition-t2943330
Just don't like all the goole news, games, and music crap that comes with a full GAPPS package.
Comes from working on the LG Optimus project.
Also, am I going crazy, or did I just switch a toggle and get root access?
Seriously? No ADB, no chinese programming? Just handed me root access like it was nothing?
Friggin awesome.
Camera Fix
I got the camera to work better.
I had to use
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera&hl=en
In case this blog block the link, it’s Open Camera by Mark in the play store.
I have working video and pic on the rear camera, and the “selfie” front camera works for picture only. In video mode, It duplicates/tiles video. That’s the only thing.
Other than that, very few problems. Pretty zippy in terms of speed. Course I came from the LG Optimus S, so anything is zippy to me. Noop works good.
Annoying though that it seems to only save nandroid backups to some mysterious "secure" folder. I've looked for it, can't find it. Maybe it's just ROM Manager being a jerk though.
Why haven't you updated the ROM since April 24?
You are alive? Yay!
Very excited for the next build to go up, can't wait! Welcome back!

Me too. It's going up later this morning.
Sweet, looking forward to notifications on my lockscreen. Going to have to swap out the font for the clock though, Roboto looks weird when thin.
Thanks for taking the time to build this for us.
I didn't build this. But be warned, Telephony, bluetooth, camera, and flashlight doesn't work.
Mostly nitpicking, but after about an hour of testing, here's what I found, on 12-20150424:
Telephony requires a two+ rings prior to the other phone ringing at all. May be a carrier issue.
The Location quick setting tile for the notification drawer disappears when accessing the tiles from the lockscreen, at least with a pattern lock. Unaffected are WiFi, mobile data, Bluetooth, tethering/hotspot, airplane mode, rotation control, flashlight, AudioFX, ADB over network, Compass, battery mode, color inversion, LTE
, LiveDisplay, NFC, screen timeout and profiles. (logcat for disappearing tile: pastebin.com backslash 4Ny6rR58)
Compass in said notification drawer does not function correctly, tilting devices does not equal change in heading. i437 hardware issue?
SMS is vulnerable to Stagefright, as expected of pre-August 2015 builds.
Settings > Storage: Overflow menu option 'USB computer connection' activity never starts if phone is not plugged into computer. IMO, should offer options even if not connected.
Cannot remove guest user under Settings > User without first being ON guest account.
Camera findings:
Rear camera 4.9 mp pictures do not preview correctly in camera app, appear as pure gray. Opening files with third-party app resulted in expected photo.
720p rear camera never saves video; must lower resolution to function. In addition, appears R and B channels get swapped in preview.
Beyond those, no complaints so far, and been using this for about two months now. Any bootloops are the result of an improper Xposed installation
(please don't stop making this, it's much fun to poke and prod D:)
WiFi radio not working
Hey guys, so I have a Samsung Galaxy Alpha that I rooted and flashed CM12.1 along with Gapps on to it and it worked fine. Then I flashed my aunt's Samsung Galaxy Light SGH-T399 with CM12.0 too (with Gapps) and again everything worked fine including WiFi except that she had no service from her provider but still could receive calls but neither call nor Message. So I flashed a new radio (SGH-T399N) which I found somewhere in the discussion page and everything worked! She now got service, meaning she could make calls and message too.
Now I flashed my uncle's Samsung Galaxy AT&T SGH-i437 along with Gapps and again, everything worked including Camera (Google Camera not stock). Except the WiFi. When the CyanogenMod set up screen loaded and asked for my preferred language I chose English as always but when the WiFi screen popped up, it simply said "WiFi turning on" but it didn't! For 10 minutes I sat there waiting for it to enable but no such luck. So I skipped ahead to the home screen and I noticed that Mobile Service worked 100% for the phone. So basically, is there a WiFi radio I must flash for the WiFi to turn on? Right now I just downgraded him to CM11 KK 4.4.4 with Nova Launcher and the WiFi is enabled. Thanks in advance!
tl;dr WiFi doesn't turn on SGH-i437, mobile service does. Any radio or something I need to flash?

Out of curiosity, which version of the rom did you use? I used vanilla.
Secondly, does the rom work when you do not flash the radio?
Thirdly and lastly, you clear the cache, data, dalvik etc before flashing, right?
