I'm mulling a switch to Sprint basically and I'm considering a Nexus S 4G when I come across, anything special I need to know? Tell me some pros and cons, just wanting to make a good purchase.

Pros: stock gingerbread, samoled is amazing, sexy formfactor body, easy to root.
If your going to root we have a pretty good section of roms, mostly aosp. Go check out the dev section if you wanna get the down low.
Cons: some users have issues with signal reception but mine is rather good, some people don't like the plastic body, samoled sucks up battery if is up too high for too long.
But the only opinion that matters is your own, btw if you don't like it you can return it and get an evo if you like that better.

How common is the signal issue and I've heard wifi has issues?

I haven't ever noticed problems with reception during calls or on WiFi

I agree with everything except this. Samoled uses a good bit less power than LCD technology does.

And blacks on the samoled screen are the blackest you'll ever get on any screen. It's as if its not even there....

Because that's how it works. The pixels are almost in the off state for black.

I've never kept my phone the higtest setting for the whole day, I'm always on auto, I just guessed that it would suck up more battery than in normal use. Never tested aganist an LCD screen so ..... lol but I've heard different stories about battery life between LCD vs samoled screen so hmmm I don't know >.<

Yes, samoled does use less power then an lcd if you avoid white color
So has anyone else LED turned blue? Mine is really, really blue.
Sent from my Nexus One using xda premium
Iirc the n1 has a teal blue led as well as a dark blue one. What seems to be the issue?
sent from the passengers side of my best friend's ride tryna holla at you.
Its the camera flash LED. It used to be pure white. The one day I noticed it had turned blue. Pictures taken with the flash on a blue washed if you will. That's the only minor issue. It doesn't bother me much. Just curious to see if anyone else's had done the same.

oohhh the camera flash LED i though you were talking about the led ball on the front side of the phone haha.
so when the flash activates for a picture, instead of flashing white it flashes a blue-ish light now? i havent experienced that issue personally myself, sorry
Yeah it flashes blue and in a darkish area when taking pictures it causes the pictures to come out bluish. Like I said, just curious if I'm the only one or if it is something others are experiencing. Doesn't bother me too much.

My Desire is the same now. I blame it on me using the flashlight on Death ray mode too often. I assume its half burned out.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Lol! That makes sense I do the same.

Rarely use it as a flashlight; instead I use a bright screen via 'Color Flashlight' app. Mine is still white.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA
Well I found it hard not to use it since it is better than any flashlight I have owned and didn't drain the battery much for the amount I was using it. Better than worrying if your flashlight battery is going to die (no gauge on them)

Abuse the led and it will start dying, big surprise. I suspect walmart has better flashlights than the N1's led, but any decent flashlight will kill it on both flexibility (low to full output), battery life, and of course output.
Look up Fenix. Cheap, work well. Get a 10 pack of 123 batteries online for $15 and it'll last you 5 years or more.
I find the camera always worked better in well lit areas without use of the flash anyways so I don't blame the phone for the led burning out and it doesn't bother me that much. At least it still works.
Sent from my MildWild for Desire using XDA
Lol yeah same here. I got me a surefire 1000 lumen led flashlight now. Brighter than anything I've ever seen. But the blue led looks cool on my Nexus lol.
Sent from my Nexus One using xda premium
After using it for a while and after the LED gets hot, its color will distort. It is a problem with the bulb itself and not any other hardware, such as the plastic piece that covers it. It is a result of age; therefore, there is no way to 'fix' the issue other than just to finally upgrade to a new device or replace the bulb if even possible.
I use my LED flash as a flashlight at max brightness and mine still is not blue yet, wonder why mines seems to be more durable...
We all know that N4 has a very bad camera..specially in low light photos..photos have very much dots..They seems good on mobile but when zoomed even a little its pathetic.
Was anyone able to find out what the issue is..? is it software or hardware..?
If its software related than is there any solution..?

Low light noise, no tap to snap picture, horrendous flash photos.
It's just not as good as the Galaxy S2+ I was going to sell.
The camera is the biggest disappointment for me as a one week N4 owner. I'm seriously considering selling the phone.
I tried the Moto X apk, which seemed to be a little better on the noise front, but I can't live with that aspect ratio. "Focal" was even worse than the stock camera.

No We are just expecting a decent camera..coz i think its a make or break feature for a smartphone..accept it or not..camera is not good enough on N4. And please i was just asking a question, its not about what i expect.
Just FYI i have a DHD and its camera is great..even in low light

I don't in any way think the N4 has a terrible camera. The pictures of takes for me at least are clear and sharp.. Way better than my S2 and honestly look just as good as my brothers Optimus g and NY wife's Note 2..

Yea, I concur. I'm able to take great pictures with this phone. I'm not sure what the issue is. I mean I did come from the Evo 4G to this though, that phone had so many camera issues so I guess anything is better.
After reading around the subject, the only thing I've that gives me any hope is someone suggested using Snap Camera HDR app and fixing the ISO at 100. I'll be giving it a try in the hope of reducing noise in the pictures my N4 makes. Ta-ta, PmT
I am not expecting a 5DmkIII quality but I was expecting the camera to be as good as the one on my Galaxy S2 Plus (also 8MP).

you dont have to tap the screen. long press the shoot button until its focused, then release. or in 4.3, you can hold down the down volume button then releae when focused.
btw some recent photos..
This phone sold for $200, of you want better camera you're going to have to shell out more money for other phones with better camera.
If you want less noise in low light shoot with iso 100. Or get n HTC One.

I just ordered a new Note 3 from Amazon and it was darned expensive.
I have a note I which I have used consistently for the last year and a half and I have used it daily. There are signs it might be wearing. I even have some small scratches on the screen. I expect to use the 3 the same way. I loved my 1 but thought I should upgrade before it falls apart.
The question is will I see a significant difference in the 1 and the 3? Is the 3 worth the price
I will appricate any thought you have on this subject
Wait until you get the note 3 use it for a few days and decide for yourself amazon is quite relaxed on returns

I'm coming from Note 2 as well, only thing that's better is the screen, some other important things like battery life is worse for me. As well as stupid speaker placement, and KNOX. I'm not doing heavy tasks, so I don't notice any difference with the new CPU, RAM etc.

The battery life isn't much better than My N7100. However it's a 4g phone which up until now should have meant worse battery life than it's 3g counterpart. It's also a much faster processor and the screen has a much higher ppi and is significantly brighter. All these improvements and no sacrifices so far as battery life is concerned are pretty amazing to me.

if the note2 was the beast, and you're coming from a note1, the note3 is the incredible hulk. my first couple of days, i was kind of like, meh, it's just an incremental upgrade, and honestly it is, but it has a lot going for it and i am liking it more and more and more. this might be the first phone i keep much longer than 12 months. i upgrade once a year, and i am not too enthused about the first generation of 64bit phones that will hit in the near future. between google keeping mum on 64bit android, oem's still keeping hush about their 64bit plans, the initial bugs from android aaaaand the vendors overlays, i wanted a phone that would hold me over. but who am i kidding? i'll probably still get another phone next year.

Yes, absolutely notice this. Brought it up in the other thread but no one thought it was worth checking. Have done tons of side by sides with Note 2 and honestly this camera is very touchy. Has a tiny field and it's often hard to see where that is in the pics. I really hope the camera gets a software update and it's not hardware because the camera has been the only thing I'm on the fence about. When you zoom in, even in good light, things in the taken pic get blurry and almost look like they have an effect.

It's just sad that these basic obvious issues make it out the door.
They should have caught these things and I understand shipments went already but we should have had updates just waiting for us to fix em.
Oh well, time shall tell I guess. Sprint won't help I'm sure given how slow they are to push updates too...
Anyone mess with any video? How's that, clear, blurry mixture mess? lol
That prob has ability to be better or worse I guess. You've got 1080P mode and 4K HD, which when enabled seems to kill off a number of features.
I've not messed with it yet but just wondering.
