I am just curious if anyone has figured out a way to root the M on 4.1.2 without having to unlock the boot loader. Thanks.

There is no way to unlock the boot loader on the RAZR M (retail). As for the Electrify M (which I presume you own), achieving root from unlocking the boot loader the only valid method.

Big news today on this topic involving @djrbliss (Dan Rosenberg), per droidrzr.com. My OMAP phone can't use this method, but I wanted to give people on this forum a heads-up. So go check it out!

Thanks. I just never could figure out why the electrify 2 was rootable without unlock on 4.0.4 but the M couldn't be.

After my contract is up with VZW, can it be unlocked to work with T-Mo or Cricket?
Simply do the GSM mod, I would suggest nvitem method. Search this forum a bit for it, I don't have a link on hand. My XT907 is currently on cricket.

Worked great, I'm now ready to go T-mo or Cricket

Can still be useful. Beaups posted this in the Droid Turbo thread.

You're going to need root in some form to use sunshine, so I wouldn't call it a waste.

I'm well aware of how sunshine works [emoji14] you'll need root, be it mofo, kingroot temproot etc etc, just long enough for sunshine to do its thing.

You need to see if kingroot works to root 5.1. It works to root the Chinese MX14 XT1085 so I don't see why it wouldn't work on the XT1096 and XT1097.
My moto x still has 5.0, so newest update should work?

I think kingroot works for 5.0 if that is what you are asking.

Yes, you need to unlock your bootloader to be able to flash TWRP.

Figured. Wish there was a free way, moto website said mine was unlockable. Don't want to pay another 20.

The XT1096 is not unlockable through Motorola and it does not say that it is unlockable on the motorola website.

I am not watching some YouTube video. The Verizon Moto X 2014 XT1096 is not unlockable by Motorola and no where on the Motorola website do they say that it is. You said the motorola website said the XT1096 was unlockable. It does not.
Anyone can post anything on YouTube doesn't make it true.

Has anyone done a moto Maker do over with their bootloader unlocked? I'm thinking of switching to a plastic back and was wondering how it might go.

I have Motorola Droid RAZR M (xt907)
Build number: KPA20.10.1
Android KitKat 4.4.2
System version: 185.46.10.xt907.Verizon.en.US
I cannot unlock bootloader on this phone. I have heard that I have to downgrade but I cannot find proper firmware.

XT907 with kernel date July 2014 or after
can now be unlocked with sunshine app
http://theroot.ninja/download.html
xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792487
free to test compatibility, $25 to unlock
I would root with hydrogen peroxide, even though kingroot or temporary root should work too

It's the kernel date that matters.
