Touchscreen unresponsible after updating to 4.4.2 - Nexus 7 (2013) General

Hey guys,
today i received my new Nexus 7 (2013). I unpacked it, connected with my account and had fun with the new Display. After that i updates my 15 preinstalled google apps, played a littel bit with google maps / gmail / clash of clasn, and after that i upgraded to 4.4.2. After rebooting, i started the game again and suddenly my display didn't response anymore. The power button is working, and by holding down the power button i can restart the device, without any changes. And few minutes ago, i wiped the partitions (with the recovery mode), but still the touchscreen is unsresponsible.
Does anyone has the same problem? I read about multitouch problems, but has someone informations about this bug?
What would you do? (should i send it back to amazon)
thanks a lot in advance!

Don't mess with it, just get a replacement while you still can

[Q] Nexus 7 does not register touch correctly

Hi all,
Recently I purchased the 32GB Nexus 7. It's been all right, however since last week it's beginning to have troubles. When I tap on the screen, the input registers on a random part of the screen.
Before you ask:
the device is on 4.1.2 and is 100% stock, was rooted but I reverted to check if it would help
updating to 4.2 does NOT fix the issue, in fact it makes it worse
I have tried reinstalling the touch drivers from XDA about a thousand times (yes I did do the right build version) to no avail
Rebooting helps, but the issue comes back after about five minutes. I want my Nexus back!
Any help that you have would be appreciated.
A video of the issue in question can be found below. Sorry for the poor video quality...
And, if I get this problem on my new slate, what other tablets could you recommend? That's probably a last resort, though, because I LOVED this tablet until the touch issue.

[Q] Strange screen issue with reboots

Hi.
I'm new to Nexus 7 and after a short time using it I began experiencing some strange issue with the it. While surfing the web over WiFi (note that I'm using the first Nexus 7 with WiFi only) after a short time glitching lines appear on the screen (as shown on the image attached) and some loud white noise coming from the speaker. It's stuck like this for about 30 seconds and then reboots. After reboot, everything seems normal, till it comes again. It takes 15-30 minutes of surfing and I believe the time depends on the intensity of surfing. Seems like WiFi modem somehow affects the GFX driver.
Note that I was first running android 4.1.1 and recently updated to 4.2. Updated didn't fix the problem. I've rooted the device with "Nexus 7 root toolkit v.1.5". Note sure if the rooting affected it somehow, as I rooted the device on second or third day of use.
Anyone have an idea of what could be wrong or how I might fix it? Or it's HW issue and I should turn it to Google?
Thanks!
So I'm the first and only one with such problem???:silly:
I could be wrong here but that seems like more of a hardware(warranty) kind of issue. However, I had the speaker issue after flashing a custom ROM (sparks linario 4.2.1) and I had the speaker issue (along with a host of other bugs buts that's beside the point). I flashed stock and unrooted and the problem was fixed... I know it might not help your case but I thought ide let you know. Its possible the toolkit caused the issues and flashing back to stock and rooting with another method may solve your issue (that's what I would try). But if you end up sending it in under warranty for god sakes, unroot and relock your bootloader first! Otherwise Google probably won't honor your warranty.
Good luck friend.

[Q] Strange glitch in Play Store when updating apps

Hi all,
I have a problem with the Play Store on my Nexus 7 what is bugging me since I got the device and that I never experienced on any other Android device I own(ed). This problem has been present from the beginning with any version of Android (got the Nexus 7 with 4.2.1 and got the 4.2.2. update quickly) and Play Store. Even the brand new 4.0 version that has been rolled out just yesterday (the bright one with the new tile design) showns this error.
The problem is this: in 3 of 4 cases when I hold my device in portrait mode and start play store and update an app, the screen constantly "flashes" every second while downloading, it´s that graphical "zoom in" effect that you get when you open an app. The problem is that I can´t leave this screen with the "back" button, it simply doesn´t work and the page keeps on flickering and showing that strange effect. Only the "home" button helps. After downlaoding and installing the update, everything woks fine.
What I already tried to get rid of the problem (none of them did help, though..):
- deleted cache and data from paly store, uninstalled update of play store, so Android reinstalled updates
- tried new version 4.0 of play store
- deleted, rebooted and reinstalled gmail account on Nexus 7
Anyone experienced this glitch? Any hints on how to solve this?
Thanks a lot,
Markus
Try stopping Downloads and Download Manager in Apps > All and clearing cache and data for them. Then reboot and try Play again.
My nexus been doing the same thing since new but in landscape mode only, annoying, but never bothered me too much. I just try to remember to keep portrait mode while updating.

I've been playing with roms and kernels lately, settling on Buttered Grouper 4.2.2 with Franco kernel r65. Just noticed the other day that Play Store flickering is gone. Coincidence?

This has been happening since I got the Nexus on release day. Thought it was normal behavior LOL. Completely stock -> Stock 4.3 ROM rooted/M-Kernel a61.

Wow, it´s still present on the NEW Nexus 7 ? Unbelievable, maybe time to jump off the Nexus bandwagon ... most people think it´s a huge advantage to have a nexus and always the newest android version, but to me it´s more and more a disadvantage. When 4.3 came out half of my apps stopped working, and i had to wait several days and even weeks (heck, some are STILL not compatible with 4.3) to use them again...

[Q] Nexus 7c serious screen problems

have updated it, but the problem still persist.
the video is at youtu.**be/**bZLHorAuScw (just delete the *)

Nexus 6p freezing a lot

I enrolled to beta programa like 3 weeks ago and everything was just fine, but yesterday after some apps updated the phone started freezing a lot, all the apps started crashing especially WhatsApp and Instagram, when I unlock the phone it takes like 5 seconds, also a lot of times when I go to the home screen after writing something, the keyboard stays on screen and it doesnt hides, I dont know what is happening, if someone could help me I would thank it a lot.

Don't mean to scare you, but that is exactly what was happening to me right before going into an unrecoverable bootloop. Nothing I tried revived the device, although there have been some that have been able to. I ended up RMA'ing my device as nothing I did brought it back to life. You might be in a different situation but just giving you a heads up.
*Bump*
Stock 7.1.1 and rooted here. I've been on the official 7.1.1 release for our 6P's since early December, and for the past week or so, I've been experiencing freezing as well. I'd be in the middle of typing in Hangouts, streaming music in the car via bluetooth and Spotify, or just waking the phone up from sleep. For the past few days, I've been getting 3-4 freezes per day.
On rare occasions, I've left the phone alone to settle, and it returns to normal, but more times than not, a hard reset is the only 'fix'; until the next freeze.
I reluctantly wiped the phone, unrooted, flashed stock 7.1.1 and re-rooted all via NRT last night. The phone froze again this morning coming off the charger...
Granted, it decided to restore 528mb's worth of WhatsApp history as soon as I unplugged it (why it didn't restore on charger overnight is beyond me though). Will update if it freezes again.
The phone runs butter smooth with zero issues other than these freezing occurrences though. MO, the 6P is the best all-rounded phone currently available, even if it's a year old already.
Appreciate any help or suggestions!!
That's odd try ex kernel and over clock or try HEBF manager on play store
Quick update. Couldn't bear the multiple freezes per day, so I called Google to ask for help. Apparently I've done everything I can on my end (including a factory reset and updating to the latest firmware), so they sent out a replacement 6P to me free of charge. They'll also be covering the courier/shipping costs for my old 6P too. Fantastic customer service. Kudos to them!! I called them Tuesday morning (20th Dec) Australian time, and received my replacement 6P Friday afternoon (23rd Dec). Very quick indeed
Half a day after setting up my replacement 6P, including updating to 7.1.1, I started getting the same symptoms as my old 6P. Freezing, unresponsiveness, etc. Persisted for another day and had enough. I've since done a full wipe and downgraded back to the final 6.0.1 release, and it's been stable as a rock for 3 days now. No freezes, lagginess, nothing.
So I deduce it might actually be a software issue with 7.1.1, and not a hardware problem. It appears a growing number of Pixel and Pixel XL users are also experiencing random freezes on their new phones running 7.1.1 too...
Looks like I'll stick with 6.0.1 until Google makes a formal announcement and something is done about 7.1.1. I've missed Xposed and GravityBox too, so 6.0.1 is all good. Most importantly, it's stable
Had you ever tried booting into safe mode to see if maybe an app was causing the issue? Maybe a compatibility issue between an installed app(s) and 7.1.1

Thanks for the pro tip. I did consider doing that with the replacement 6P, but the only apps that I had installed were the stock Google ones that came with 7.1.1, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SwiftKey. I just assumed if such popular apps were the cause, a lot more people would have pinpointed them as the problem?
I did however read a few users claiming SwiftKey to be the culprit prior to RMA'ing my old device, but even after uninstalling that from my old phone, I was still getting the freezing issues.
