Sup guys,
Just got the G2 *AT&T* yesterday and I must say so far I'm pretty happy with it. It already had CM11 on it so i never got the chance to even test the stock OS. I just have a few questions about this device and would greatly appreciate some help...
While the screen is beautiful, what are all those dots on the screen when its off? Ive never seen this before lol (came from HTC one). Im assuming its the screen technology but any info on it?
Why the hell would LG ship out a phone with such beast specs but only have 4.2 android on it? Fail
I'm more of a pure stock android type of guy, as of now whats the best rom to use thats close to stock i.e cm etc?
I actually like the way it feels and the buttons dont bother me at all. Id say its an upgrade from the HTC one overall, only thing the one has over this is build quality. It just feels more premium.
Thanks.

I'm not sure what dots you are referring to, is it the digitizer pattern when you look at it on an angle, under direct sunlight?
Most people tend to stick with stock on this device, by the way! 4.4 is coming soon, we think.

Yeah i guess it is the digitizer pattern. Never been able to see them before on a device. That's interesting. I hope 4.4 is coming soon. Thanks dude!
Stock ROM on the G2 is awesome. I came from a DROID RAZR and the ROM on the G2 is so much better. I was flashing ROMs left and right on my RAZR trying to make it better, but the stock ROM on the G2 is so much more feature rich that I don't even care that I'm on 4.2 because I know CM 11 would make me lose a lot of the things that make this phone great. I'd suggest you go back to the stock ROM and give it a spin. It's not stock Android, but it's darn good.

Stock is nice. I love the Qremote. It also has a lot of bells and whistles from the S4. I think the best feature is KnockOn/Off. Now any android phone I pick up i try to tap the screen to get it to turn on LOL!. I'm using Mahdi 4.4.2 ROM and I love it for now. Im a crack flasher and I hat how much bloat is on stock and I love KK because I came from a Nexus 5.

I came from the HTC one running CM and omni ROM. Cm11 seems to be making good progress so far. I'm on the ATT G2 so my options look sort of limited at the moment lol.

Hey, I think that the standard rom that the phone is born with is cool enough )
Haven't felt the "no-need to root my phone" feeling before... it's weird, but I honestly feel that it's good enoug , the way it is...
Bobo
The stock rom is pretty much perfect on all levels, on all my previous android phones I felt the desprate need to instantly change into a customized ROM, but on the note I feel that if i ever do install a costume rom it will be worse not better
Everyone has their own definition of cool. Me, I can't stand most of the color ans font themes I see packaged. You're going to have to know what you're wanting for specific advice, or try and try til you find what you love. So far this is the first rom I've had no want to swap out, and I'm running stock.

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

The Note 2 is my first device where i don't have the need of a Custom ROM. Stock is a very perfect ROM. I use Android Devices since the HTC Magic.
All depends your own preferences, so make your choice and see if it makes you happy.

I have to agree that many of the roms have themes that aren't to my taste. However as im a flashaholic ive resorted to android revolution,
It's pretty rare on xda to get this many replies favouring stock!
I simply can't find a good reason to flash when everything works perfectly on stock after a little debloating. Perhaps the l only thing I don't like is the touchwiz notification drawer and the toggles. But I'm getting used to it.

For customization it's pretty cool ParanoidAndroid Rom, i use it and i find it awesome, if u don't need customization Stock Samsung + Root it's the Best.
Hi Friends,
Is possible in future (development and research) transform regular 9505 in 9505G, not only ROM ports. Or they have hardware differences?
I'm referring to support the (amazing) commands in fastboot fo Nexus Devices.
PS.: Sorry my badly english.
correct me if I'm wrong but the bootloader is different on the G so probably not.

Totally different partitions etc etc. But there's some genius devs out there so maybe! It's a pretty long shot though, don't hold your breath.

Even if they could get it working I can imagine there would be a great risk of bricking your device. Anyways I don't think id like to be stuck on GE. As good as the firmware is the lack of choice and features would get pretty boring lol. They've managed to get duel boot working on the i9500 so I'm hope they i9505 will be soon to follow!
I have a I9505, recently flashed a new ROM on it. Now my model number in About Phone shows GT-I19505G,
I suppose that isn't quite the same?

I'm keeping an eye on the below thread, it allows you to switch from GE to touchwiz based ROM, its in beta testing at the moment and it will hopefully be released for everyone soon. The handy thing is that your data is shared between both ROMs, which means apps installed on one ROM appear in the other and vice versa.

No worries, it does look great. I've been watching the 4.2.2 and 4.3 GE ROM threads closely but been holding out for this as it seems like the perfect solution to experience the best of both worlds.

Hello,
XDA and other sites have broken news on new features in KitKat and one of them is that its made for wearable devices with as low as 512MB. Our Desire Z has 512MB so this will be great news Obviously our processor still lacks and GPU drivers are sticks and gum but something is better than nothing.
I was excited to hear this when I first read that about KitKat. I'm quite excited to see if anyone out there is gonna work on a ROM once everything needed to port it over is available.

The team at Cyanogenmod has commented that this wont mean a revivial of old devices since a lot of things (drivers) are needed besides RAM but needless to say in my opinion and seeing what Jelly Bean brought to the table, I think its a good sign of things to come.
Sadly, there are few really active developers on JB/Desire Z. Lets hope someone comes out with a KitKat ROM.
Speaking of KitKat, here is a lot of the stuff ripped from the Nexus 5 ROM, I personally have all of them running on CM10.1 Andromadous (I think that's the right spelling.) Hope it helps people! bit. ly /1arIQCU (via DroidLife)
I would be very surprised if Kit Kat is ported to this wonderful device. The fact that it has been ported anything beyond Ice Cream Sandwich is astonishing already, so whether they support Kit Kat or not I'd still be happy until a true hardware keyboard phone comes out.

I would be really happy to see KitKat ported over. I mean even if it isn't I'd be happy running either CM10.1 or the Gslim 1.6 ROMs, but I hope that since KitKat supports lower ram that it helps performance wise. I'm tempted to try and get into developing roms but I'm quite a newbie when it comes to that.
i hope that somebody make it for our device
I'm a newbie as well when it comes to development, but if i have the time and someone ports 4.4 to a similar device (desire HD perhaps) then i'll definitely attempt to port 4.4 to the g2. I love my old g2, when i had to send my GS3 back do to a defect in the screen I used my g2 for 2 weeks and was still impressed with how snappy it was. So yea, I may end up attempting a 4.4 rom at some point. I'll share it here and perhaps some of the better developers can take it and improve on it

Desire Z has 384MB of RAM. Rest is allocated for video memory.
But not sure if there is a way to strip the video memory or even have dynamic vram.

I think it's fantastic, once in a while I'll come across a small little hiccup, but that's expected personally for a port. I would make it my daily driver but I use Gslim as my daily rom only for battery life because not around my charger much, otherwise I'd be running CM10

Oh oh oh, I understand what you meant now. I was still waking up when reading that, I'l use that as an excuse. I'm slowly teaching myself how to port over roms, I'm probably going to end up buying another secondhand G2/Desire Z as a test device so I don't bork the one that I use daily
cm11.0
I'm currently working on getting cm11.0 4.4 to build. I Had it built already and a new version of cwm recovery 6.0.2.8. The rom starts but there is no splash for the time being. Don't even have permission to view the log cat. Been working off of nevergone's stuff. What recovery version do you guys have?

I'll upload the new cwm-recovery image on dropbox if anyone wants to try it out lol.

I can't get it to build anymore for some reason and I lost all my work I still have the zip but it doesn't boot. But I got
https dl dropboxusercontent com/u/70782275/cwm-recovery-6.0.2.8.img
I can't post in the dev side of the xda here but where can I find the work gits for someone working on cm11.0 for this device I'm trying to get this thing to work again. Also is there a irc room for the group?
I figured the cwm version that built worked with the new set_metadata in the updater-scripts for the 4.3 and up
I would like to help with, (attempt to) coordinate, and start the development efforts for KitKat/CM11 on the G2.
I can beta test, build, and debug/reverse-engineer where needed.
I'm getting a build environment prepared, so it will be a bit until I crank out builds.
I was wondering if there was any old roms out there for a g2 sprint maybe ics or gingerbread everything i see is kit kat or jb i dont much care for the interfaces on kitkat i had an o g evo 4 g and it had a great interface and dint.use much proscessor i run cm 7 on it great. Wow, this phone wasn't even thought of when those were available. Why not just stick with the older phone if cm7 is what you like.

Hi guys I just rooted my edge and flashed a custom ROM. Everything is smooth and I can't get enough of this phone, it's fantastic! But I don't really know for sure but I have a feeling that the camera quality dropped and doesn't look all that awesome after I flashed echoe ROM. I was on stock for about 2 weeks and loved the camera but now it "feels" normal. Do you guys feel the same or is it a known fact after rooting this happens?

Thanx for the straight and honest answer... Sorry about posting about a ROM that's not on XDA but still...
Actually, if it's not a stock based ROM, your camera won't be as good. So that's definitely something to look into. As for root, it doesn't affect it, simply gives you extra permissions.
Sorry didn't mean to be a ****.

Have to say that I cannot agree with you at all.
If you have an issue, say a "bug", then out of respect you should engage with the dev directly.
He is more than helpful and deserves some respect.
Suggest that you delete this great Rom and go back to where you came from which is stock.
