Hey fellow members
I need some help updating my Nexus 4 (ROOTED) with Clockwork Mod Touch Recovery.
I am not a newbie so i'll understand most of what anyone will require me to do but CWM will give me a status 7 error
My phone is stably working on 4.4 at the moment.
"framework/odex has unexpected contents"
somewhere in the update.zip
I'm going from 4.4 -> 4.4.2: occam KOT49H from KRT16S
source - Android Police for the Link. (outsiders can't post links)
The size is 52mb - I have a system notification update that won't go away for 4.4.2 but it sends me to CWM where it will keep failing and giving me status 7.
ADB says it can't sideload since it needs android-info.txt (if that helps for this problem too)
If anyone can help, much appreciated.
-Asad
You need stock recovery in order to flash the OTA update
Enviado desde mi Nexus 4 mediante Tapatalk
just do it from fastboot
Just flash system.img file from factory 4.4 rom and then be sure to flash the 4.4.2 through latest TWRP recovery.
Unleashed by my Nexus 4
I know how to fix this. please give a thanks mah first reply ever
1) download wugsfresh nexus root toolkit
2) there will be an option on the right flash stock plus unroot ..choose that optin
3) then it will ask you which android os you wanna flash then choose 4.4.2(latest as of now)
3) it will download and flash it and its done and it won show status seven and services framework has unexpected contents
4) make a backup before doing so

I'd rather download factory img of 4.4.2 and flash-all.bat. Backups always necessary.
You need stock recovery to flash the OTA, but you will lose the root. You might try "Rootkeeper".

I just started using the Nexus 7 (WiFi) and I am on 4.2.1 and I am rooted. I rooted with the Wug's Toolkit. Anyway I want to update to 4.2.2 and I don't want to use any custom rom's, I just want to have an original update that I can flash without having to unroot. I have flashed my nexus with Clockwork Mod Recovery. Any places were I can get this rom and how I can install it?
Help Please!!

That's because you are using a custom recovery. You can either flash a stock recovery or edit some files in the zip so you can flash it in the custom recovery.

Possibly, but probably not. In most of the reports that have been coming in - when the users actually report the full error message rather than saying something ambiguous like "I got a Status 7 error" - the problems revolve around altered/removed files in /system, or having a custom kernel (boot or LNX partition) installed. That suggests that the recovery version is not causing assert() failures.
The other thing to rememder is that the program that is interpreting the edify updater-script is the "updater-binary" program which is shipped inside the OTA - so it is virtually identical independent of the choice of recovery (other than perhaps kernel behavior differences).

Even though what you are saying here does only require being able to operate a plain-text editor and a zip tool, it's way above the heads of most folks who think that OTAs should work on non-stock ROMs. And I'm not sure how these folks would be better off with partially-patched ROMs. In any event, if this course is taken indeed a custom recovery would need to be used for this, as modifying the zip contents will break the OTA package signing, so the stock recovery couldn't be used.
The OP should just
- make a full nandroid backup of what they have now
- download the factory 4.2.2 images from Google
- extract the system.img file and boot.img images
( hint for windoze users: 7-zip understands .tgz files)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
- reflash a basic SuperSU or Superuser root kit
Sort of crude, but it's a decent hack for the lazy or poorly informed. It won't "erase my data", but presumably it will break whatever it was that altered the stock system and/or boot partitions - the very things that are causing the OTA to fail on them with their rooted & modified ROMs.
If they don't like the result, they can simply restore their nandroid backup.
So I got the OTA update, but after downloading it, the install failed (dead android says: error), then the Nexus 7 reboots to 4.2.2.
I already did a factory reset, but it didn't help either...
Anyone with the same issue?

looks like your SystemUI.apk has been modified not in original. I would recommend to get copy of systemUI.apk from stock 4.2.2 and copy it to your tablet and using file explorer, replace it. and give a try.

my OTA failed too, different error. this usually always the case if /system/ folder integrity check failure (error 7), means files in /system/ folder are not original or modified. Yours does not give any details, but I bet it is. to see what error, try to flash it thru CWM or any other custom recovery you use.

I guess I'll download the Nexus Toolkit, click on the flash stock + unroot button, so it flashes the stock 4.2.2 and then I'll try to OTA update again.
I already unrooted, but I think it's not a problem.
Seems like it is not fixable!
I used fast boot to push my missing file.
I used es file explorer.
I used titanium back up to make the app, system...
No way, nothing. Not the slightest luck.
(My missing app is xt9ime.apk)
I haaaaaate this situation.
the worst thing is that xt9ime.apk is asus keyboard, and it is disabled by google on nexus 7.
why should not having an app that they don't want to use be a problem. X(

Are you guys with errors using SuperSU? If so what version?
It seems like that the last couple versions touch a file used by OTAs. The Dev recommends using the "Full Unroot" option in the SuperSU app prior to accepting the OTA.

I did full unroot, and I also did a factory reset, but it still fails to install.
Using Wug's Toolkit to flash stock 4.2.2 is a good idea?
Then try to OTA update 4.3 again?

Sadness.
Fastboot is a utility used to control the base fastboot firmware on many Android devices. It lets you do low-level actions such as flashing a custom recovery, ROM, or kernel. Toolkits run fastboot behind the scene, but automate the commands for newer users.
I had exactly the same problem and after trying a few things, I just found a working solution for my Nexus 7.
I used the same tool I used to unlock and root a few months ago: Nexus Root Toolkit 1.6.3.
I made a backup of my files first, my idea being to reflash the 4.2.2 rom
I downloaded the system file here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamjwr66v
Then, in the Nexus Root Kit, launch " flash stock + unroot" and select the downloaded system file.
The flash lasts 5 minutes, and the system will reboot.
Then you need to reactivate the usb debugging .
The next action is to relock the Nexus, with the "OEM Lock" in Nexus Root Toolkit.
The system will reboot after flash.
Then, the 4.3 update will be available automaticaly but this time the installation won't crash.
I hope this could help.

Thanks for the idea. I used a similar approach with different steps and got 4.3 and root back.
I had stock 4.2.2, stock recovery, rooted (SuperSU).
Backup data.
From the Toolkit at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809195
- "9. Download, Extract + Flash Google Factory Stock Rom"
- Download Stock Image
- "15. Android 4.2.2 (Build JDQ39)
... followed directions to download and flash WITHOUT wiping USERDATA
I did NOT do the "relock the Nexus, with the OEM Lock".
After flashing, did the OTA update to 4.3
After OTA and rebooting, got SuperSU update and put it on my N7
SuperSU thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
CWM / TWRP / MobileODIN installable ZIP: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
I went back in to the Toolkit:
- "10. Boot to Custom/Stock Recovery without Permanently Flashing it"
In CWM, I flashed the installable SuperSU ZIP, rebooted, and got rooted.

I wanted to save my data and wasn't sure if going directly to 4.3 would be safe. Was just being cautious and letting the OTA do the update.
I hate to ask to questions here but im pretty desperate and confused. Ive tried searching for a solution to my problem but i cant seem to find a definite one.
I have a stock rooted Nexus 4 running on 4.2.1. Months ago, when the android 4.3 was first released, i disabled the OTA update notification somehow (forgot how!). Now when i tried chekcing for OTA update, my phone can only update to 4.2.2.
I did download the 4.2.2 update hoping that it might help my phone detect the 4.3 update after flashing it on my phone. But after flashing the 4.2.2 zip file using CWM, the installation failed due to some verification problem.
Now im at lost. I just want to update my phone to 4.3.
Do i need to unroot first? Or can i just manually update my phone through the computer using some toolkit or something?
Yes u will need to unroot your device first before it can be detected for an update. Since you already have cwmr+rooted; why not just download 4.3 stock image from Google site or from xda and flash it via cwmr? When installation fails; it could be due to bad download.

My recommendation is to update to the latest recovery first, older recoveries will have issues with flashing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995440
Before you flash a rom, make sure to do a factory reset wipe.
If you want to flash stock 4.3 through CWM, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010887, it can receive OTA.
Or if you want to flash a clean factory image using fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312

So do i just flash it through cwm like any other zip file? Sorry for asking too many questions. I used to know this stuff until i got busy with my studies.
I'm not sure what you mean by it. If its a rom.zip or a flashable package, then you can flash it through recovery. And if its not, it wouldn't work if you try anyway.
K if this is all confusing to you just download the toolkit, it will do everything for you.
If you wanna do manually; first download all the files to ur SD card.
1. Download latest cwm recovery (from above post)
2. Download 4.3 ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010887
3. Download 4.3 bootloader
https://www.copy.com/s/JniBu/4.3 files (mako)
Once you copy all these files to our SD card. Reboot to cwm recovery.
1. Flash latest cwm recovery
2. Reboot to recovery again
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Flash 4.3 bootloader
5. Flash 4.3 ROM
6. Wipe cache partition + dalvic
7. Reboot and enjoy

Hi guys, I noticed a problem with the ota upgrade from 4.4 to 4.4.2 .
When I had the notification of the upgrade, i skipped it because I have root and I need it. Finally I decided to upgrade, but when I did it and the device rebooted, it gave me error and the version of android remained 4.4 .
I tried to flash the occam KOT49H from KRT16S zip with custom recovery but it gave me error again.
Anyone knows how to help me or the only way is flashing the factory image? And if so, can I restore a backup from different version?
Thanks all.
P.S. These are my specs:
LGE Nexus 4
Unlocked Bootloader
Root + Busybox
ClockWorkMod Recovery 6.0.4.3
Franco Kernel r197
Android 4.4 KRT16S
Don't update from 4.4 to 4.4.2, if you ask me!
With 4.4 I had everything working fine, but 4.4.2 gave some bugs.
So I wouldn't hurry if I would you, maybe a new bugfix will come shortly.
To do OTA upgrades your device must be completely stock - that is, you need to get rid of root privileges, restore the stock kernel and probably flash back the stock recovery as well.
To unroot, simply flash the system.img file from the 4.4 image via fastboot (fastboot flash system /path/to/system.img).
To restore the stock kernel: fastboot flash boot /path/to/boot.img.
To restore the stock recovery: fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img.
Finally, you might want to format cache as well: fastboot format cache.
Once you're done with the steps above, OTA upgrade should work without issues.

Hi all,
I have a stock ROM image of Android 4.4 on my nexus 4, Custom kernel and TWRP recovery.
I want to update to latest 4.4.2 and save all my data and customization (I'm using Xposed framework)
To my understanding, I cannot use OTA update due to TWRP, so how can I manually to this? what is the best method?
My intuition says flash "image-occam-kot49h.zip" using TWRP, but the I will lose the custom kernel and maybe root?
Thanks!

There are many ways but I would recommend that you flash stock kernel before doing any of these below.
1. Download OTA package from a thread in General Section here (use search tool) and flash it via twrp.
2. Download a flashable 4.4.2 stock rom (or any custom 4.4.2 rom) from a thread in Android Development Section (use search tool) and flash it via twrp. Then download the new .98 baseband (optional, from General Section) and flash it in twrp.
3. Download 4.4.2 factory image (search in google) and flash it via ADB. You don't need to flash the whole package. Just system.img and radio.img should be enough.
Note
1. The one you said image-occam-xxx.zip that is not flashable via twrp. You need to extract the .img files and flash it via ADB.
2. Yes all the above option will make you lose root. Not a big deal, just flash back SuperSu after.
3. The above note (no 2) also applies for kernel. Unless, you use the third option to upgrade.
Good luck to you.

Then just use option 3. Just flash system.img and radio.img (radio is optional though). It will rewrite your system partition. Therefore root and anything you installed as system apps will be lost. But just flash SuperSu, and reinstall and update xposed. Then activate back all your customization.
