Hi!
I just bought a Nexus 4 with broken touch screen which I replaced myself.
After I replaced it, I decided to start fresh and updated the device directly to stock 4.4 using fastboot commands and got stuck in bootloop (4 circles going on for hours).
Then I tried different factory images and managed to boot under official Android 4.2.2 and it worked flawlessly until I tried to update with 4.3 OTA (with radio .83)
I found out that downgrading radio from .83 to .48 (or .53) allows the device to boot under Android 4.3.
I'm now stuck at this stage because the same trick does not work after 4.4 OTA (from 4.3).
The issue seems to be acknowledged by Google but they don't seem to have an official software fix for it since they only go for a replacement.
I'm considering an RMA but since I replaced the screen myself, I'm facing the risk to be charged 200€ if my warranty gets void (if they really control the device as they say).
Anyone managed to fix this issue? It seems to be linked to the radio (can't go further than radio .48 / .53)?
Just found out that the jack/proximity/light sensor wasn't properly connected, probably after the screen replacement. It now boots under 4.4.2
Found people with the same issue on this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595283
Just ended up reading it but my researches did not drive there earlier.
To conclude, bootloop under 4.3 and 4.4 can be related to a faulty (or just disconnected) sensor.

I confirm my nexus also bootloops on android version >= 4.3.0 due to faulty sensor.
Basis of conclusion:
My nexus 4 also started bootloop suddenly. I tried installing 4.4.2 and even 4.3 from factory images but everytime it stuck at boot animation. The only version currently working is 4.2. I always used a software called smart cover but it started mus-behaving. so i downloading phone tester and proximity sensor finder from play store, both the programs told me they were waiting for sensor/they did not get data from proximity and light sensor.
Question:
is there any way to update to 4.4.2 without being stuck at bootloop without replacing the sensor?
thanks in advance!

Did you find a solution?
Not yet. I will definitely post if I am able to find one. Researching on the topic currently.
I've got the same problem with 4.3 bootloop. Could this be fixed with custom rom?
Try flashing 4.2.2 rom - custom or stock
I'm with 4.2.2... and that's not what I asked. I want 4.4.2. Is it possible to load custom kit kat with this kind of sensor problems?
Update:
I have been trying to update nexus. I tried to install radio version 98 and bootloader from 4.4.2 version to android 4.2.2 without updating system image. it works. so i think basically the issue is with the system image itself. looking for the patched system image now or a developer who can patch system image to ignore the faulty sensors.

Hello friends, i have a similar problem.
I went to replace the glass and warmed him a lot and damaged the lcd. I bought a complete lcd with touch, but when installing it the cel came in infinite boot, Flashed the 4.2.2 and booted but sensor is working by testing q I did for an app, the problem is they do not find my network and baseband ta as unknown, been through the radio's 4.2.2 (the version I am now). the motherboard was not with the screen when I get heated to the glass, were in housing with the display flex earpiece with proximity sensor and flex usb that has the microphone and led, everything is normal, the LED only that does not work. One would like some light please. I thought about buying the flex usb to see if it resolves, but does not want to risk spending for nothing. Thank you very much!
Sorry for my english, I'm using google translator

Hello everyone I am very new to this area of computing (and this forum). However I have still ended up in the same hole as you guys are describing although it happened for a completely different reason. (BTW: I am rooted)
one day I tryed to play the android game NOVA 3 on my Nexus 7 on the highest graphical setting so I went and researched how to do this. I was pointed towards some kind of app called 'ChainFire 3D', Once I pressed the install button inside this app the Nexus 7 switched off and the next time I tried to turn it on I got the X logo of death (boot loop). I then tried to enter recovery and I got the annoying 'no command' error. I cant seem to remember how I rooted this thing but I do have access to the fastboot stuff ONLY (inside cmd).
if there is anyone who has any idea how to go about fixing such an issue without wiping everything on my nexus could they please get back to me ASAP.http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/fingers-crossed.gif

You might be able to re install your android without clearing user data. Try to flash the device with Google provided factory images without the reset tag.

Hi all, I was wondering if you could help with an annoying issue I'm having.
I made a big mistake by updating to an ICS Rom, it worked fine apart from the accelerometer which stopped 100%. I did a backup, but system crashed and that's the end of that backup
1: I've since downgraded to Honey Comb Acer_A500_7.14.14_COM_GEN1, but Accelerometer still won't work, I don't know why, is there some fix or file to replace or anything like that.
2: Second question, because I updated to ICS the boot loader got updated also, is there a way to revert the boot loader back to the original so the end product would be a 100% original
This is a 16GB UK version of the A500, so any help would really be grateful. Even if I can get both the boot loader and OS to original I can then send it off to Acer for repair.
Kindest Regards to all
Garret
Man, I don't have an Acer iconia, but I have a Samsung galaxy player 5.0 and I just experienced the same issue after trying an ICS ROM.
When I searched for a way to solve my problem, I've seen many many users (increasingly, indeed) with the same kind of problem. It's hard to think that so many users are having accelerometer hardware fail. I believe it's not physical problem, mostly because this kind of issue happens after ppl try modding their phones/tabs or changing roms. I've seen some users talking about removing a sensorfile yamaha.cfg and trying to reboot the device. That didn't solve my problem, or executing:
"sensorcalibutil_yamaha"
It is under /system/bin/, you can see that with root explore.
Unfortunately, didn't work for me. Hope it works for you.
Best regards.
Thanks for your reply, I found a way of down grading the bootloader and OS to 3.0.2 which fixed it, then updated the odds to the latest and back working 100%.
Hello, same issue for me, accelerometer doesn't work anymore! I had yesterday the official ICS fota. Is there a patch somewhere for this problem?
after official Acer ICS update - Accelerometer quit?
My A500 pad just quit doing auto-rotate just about 30 mins after I applied the "official" ICS update to my device. I haven't done anything different, I did lock the pad into portrait to read some stuff, but unlocked it (manual switch) and it was fine then all of a sudden - it stopped rotating between portrait and landscape. The switch now has no effect on it. Of course there's not a setting to change the rotation either. Argh? I was so excited to get ICS - not this goofs on me? I see quite a lot of posts about people who experience this from hacking around on their tablet or phone - I haven't hacked on this one at all - its the "official" stuff... Reset didn't help.

I need to do the exact same thing. Could you please let me know what you did to start all over and get all the OTAs?
Thanks!
One could conjecture that if the accelerometer is stuffed, so would the orientation detection be.
Cause and effect?

What did you use to do the downgrade back to 3.0.2?

If any off you had a leak and altered boot loader prior to install, it may have caused that. You should have had a 2 step optimizing process in the update, when I tested it on a leaked/flashed back version the bootloader was wrogn and that issue resulted. The stock had no issue and went through the full hardware optimizing process.
Also you shoudl have applied the market place update first, it has a pre fix to prepare it for patching.
Hey guys, i also have the same issue with accelerometer. I downgraded the a500 to Honeycomb and it fixed now.
I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516012
Rollback OS + Bootloader back to Rooted HC 3.2.1

the guides to rollback posted above can be used on an official pad , with no hack or root stuffs ?
No, it rolls you back to rooted 3.2.1. with stock bootloader. Once ur back, you can load your official 3.2 rom on an SD, use Pwr + Volume down to update to it. Then OTA to ICS.
Just saw a guy posted a system of methods to completely wipe all the system files (not just most) and clean install ICS which supposedly fixes the accelerometer problem.
Accelerometer / ICS
I sent my tab back to Acer for repair, they say they replaced the "motherboard" and it did work fine on stock ICS as returned for a while. Periodically it would stick in orientation and not auto-rotate, but a power cycle with a few minutes in between seemed to always bring it back ok. NOW - nothing I do brings it back - its working the very same way it was when it originally experienced this issue. I don't want to send this slab back to Acer every couple of months and deal with setting it back up when they ship it to me a week or so later. This is rediculous or am I just being picky?
Anyhow - How bout a reference or link for the info on downgrading, wiping ICS and re-installing from scratch as mentioned above? That would be helpful if I knew where to look.
UPDATE: This morning, based on another post about finding errors in the bootlog, I downloaded the bootlog capture app, ran it, and poof - the auto-rotate function came back to life - like magic. I'm sure it was NOT the app, but rather the fact that I had powered down the unit and let it sit all night long without touching it or powering it on/off, etc. so at least for now, I won't be sending it back to Acer for Warranty repair (AGAIN). BUT I might be listing it rather quickly on ebay and shopping for another tab that doesn't have this issue....
I have had this issue and normally a power cycle fixes it. I did have one time where it did not but I found an article that said to do a hard reset. You do this with a paper clip pushed into the very small hole. I did not lose any data.

Hello folks,
I've been using a few builds of ParanoidAndroid on my 16gb N7 (grouper) for quite some time.
Last update, thou, has broken my tab's NFC. Whatever NFC signal I try to use (tag, N4, Gnex), nothing happens, not even an error message. I tried several restoration and full wipes with no success and then decided I might as well go back to stock since 4.2.2 seems to fix most issues I had with it.
So I flashed the latest factory image, with a clean install (manually erased boot, system, userdata, etc. thru fastboot) and the problem is still here ! I performed 2 more factory reset without any success.
So before I return my tab (and that will be annoying cause it's probably gonna take them a month before it comes back), is there a way that would help me check if the problem is hardware or sofware related ? If it's software, there has to be a way I can fix it myself, so I won't bother send it to be repaired.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot to anyone.
(and sorry if this question already exists, I couldn't find a thread about it).
You've already eliminated the probability of it being software.

Hi all,
I have this annoying issue with [AOSP] Official 4.4.2 - S4 Google Edition - Final-R4 from jamal2367; current baseband installed XXUFNA1.
Problem:
When the phone loses connection, it dies. Then there is no way I can turn it on.
if unplugged from the power: it starts to boot and it dies again, sometimes at the "samsung boot text", sometimes a bit ahead, but it does not go further than the animated logo with 4 coloured bouncing balls (it does not matter how many time I try to restart the phone)
If plugged: it survives the first part of the boot most of the time, but it loops into the animated logo with the 4 coloured bouncing balls and the phone does not start.
Solution:
Every time I have to re-install Android, by:
- deleting Dalvik, Data, System, Cache.
- Install the ROM
- Apply a factory reset
At this point, if connected to the plug, the phone starts, but I have to go through the manual installation process.
This is a bit annoying I have to admin, anyone with this kind of issue, or am I the only one?
A few more info:
Phone was working great with jamal2367 4.3 (don't remember the baseband)
After 4.4 was out I installed it, but it was booting every 5 minutes or so, I decided then to go back to 4.3.
When I went back to 4.3, baseband was changed, but I kept the hold one.
Phone started to have random reboots as well, but once every 3-4 days, so I was ok with it.
4.4 releases were progressing so, after a while I decided to put it back.
I had the problem described above with previous (recent) baseband (like ml6and mj6).
Now I have the latest, but I have got the problem anyway.
A wild guess:
The phone now charges very quickly, I am wondering if the percentage that I see is realistic. Maybe it runs out of battery, which it could explain why the phone dies on reboots, but it does not explain why it loops once plugged in and why it does not turn off normally instead of just dying with a blink of an eye.
mmm that should not be the reason
Another wild guess:
I couldn't target a specific application. Sometimes it dies using fb, sometimes maps, sometimes hangout, sometimes a after a long phone call. The first two have "location" active, but I don't think that the last two are using it.
mmm that should not be the reason either.
A consideration:
I have noticed that once Android is installed, the phone signal is quite good, but then it goes down to one or two lines only. Most of the time I have one line only (in my area) and when it disappear, 6 times out of 7 it dies.
Thanks in advance.

also format everything in recovery before flashing, that should do the trick..
or maybe try another rom,if you still have issues then you may have to take it to Samsung care

Well, when I delete Dalvik, Data, System and Cache, I do it once I am inside _teamwin recovery_, I can also think about another ROM, but the one from jamal2367 is quite popular and I find it weird that no one else have the same issue.

mmm there must be some way. With the latest R1.1 I cannot even answer a phone call, with Ktoonsez's Kernel, with Alucard's Kernel no button works.

mmm also installing 4.3 back gives me random reboots. I am wondering if it could a wrong baseband.
it worked perfect for me for some hours. when i deactivated some bloatwares (g. earth, g. music, ...) it crashed and stucks in a loop reboot & crash at googke logo. swipe cache or wait some minutes don`t change anything.
i tried everything, now i have no idea what to do
I installed CyanogenMod and it is more stable. However it cannot do what is supposed to do, make and receives phone calls.
I wonder if it is a baseband issue, now.

Hey there
A friend of mine has the following problem with his Note 3 (completely stock).
Since the latest 4.4.2 OTA update, sometimes suddenly the screen does not respond to touching it with your hand. It does react to the stylus.
Locking and unlocking the screen does the job, but only for a few minutes.
I wiped the phone via stock recovery, but the problem persists.
Anyone with the same problem, or maybe a clue?

Hi
Same problem here,I tried several 4.4.2 official and custom roms but not fixed and I tried these too:
I tried mega wipe and last rom in samfirmware!
I removed my external sd card
And I googled and found there are others with same problem so it shouldn't be hardware problem
p.s.When screen freezes just half of it works! And just doesn't work by fingers and it works by s_pen!
There no way to come back to 4.3 too
What should I do?
Ty in advance
Finally Solved!
Hi
I had same problem
I did everything u said like:
mega wipe and changing rom
custom roms
taking out battery when it's on ( I Did this but I don't know It had any effects on my phone or not!)
taking out external card
But I still Had the Problem
Solution:
But I had a flip cover and I separated that from phone and thanks God,surprisingly It's Fixed and it works like a charm!!! after that I used my original cover and there is no problem till now.
Good Luck
Had the same issue posted it here bit no one responded.
Solution: The flip case I had..there's a problem with it where it locks the screen even when the case is not closed. But lately I had no issue it just seem to gotten fixed by itself.

Hi all,
I'm new to the device so I'm maybe doing something wrong but I don't think so. I got the device with a terribly cracked, I flashed Pixel Experience (Android 10) as it's what I've had on my Nexus 5x, everything was working fine so I proceeded to replace the screen. I replaced it with one from Aliexpress which seems legit.
The phone then wouldn't boot, or seemed not to boot. I saw the splash screen then a black screen. The system did boot as I could see the capacative keys light up and sounds working, I just couldn't see any image on the screen. After a while trying to flash other ROMs and other TWRP versions (at this point TWRP showed up as a black screen too) I found that the following solution solved my problem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/solved-mi-a1-bootloop-t3973131
This is fine, I can use the stock ROM and update it to the latest version but cannot use any AOSP based ROMS and still cannot use any other recovery apart from the one used to solve the "bootloop".
Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this? I thought the screen was maybe a weird version that needed some additional drivers but the strange thing is that it works for the stock ROM.

Simon

I'm in the same situation. I think these screens are not 100% compatible so it seems a hardware issue.
Maybe using vendor partition but i'm so stucked as you.
My phone can't hotboot any official recovery although i can boot flashed recovery only if i boot slot a not slot b.
Stock roms boot always using slot a but tried Lineage (thats uses slot b) and got always black screen.
I'll keep reading and trying to solve it.
Regards.

Hi all,
I'm new to the device so I'm maybe doing something wrong but I don't think so.
Regards,
Simon

Thanks for your interest but I've made no progress and actually given up on it. I'm sure the issue could be resolved by buying a new, more compatible screen but I'm not going to put any more money into the phone.
As far as the software solution goes, I've tried almost every combination of ROM + Kernel i can think of but the only thing that works is the stock ROM.
I'm going to close this thread as I don't think it's much use to anyone.
Regards
Sorry for posting here, but i am in the same and i noticed that flashing canting 4.9 kernel gives display for like 8 seconds after screen turns off. May it be a kernel config issue? if anyone in this forum could answer this i could try and change it. Also flashing stock kernel on custom rom solves the problem but makes other thing fail
Hello, I've got the same issue. Is there any solution ? Or, at least, any clue to work on it ?
EDIT: I finally done it!
with this kernel (OC) : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...rkernel-v3-1-nonoc-and-oc-12-11-2020.4186317/
And this rom : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-11-0-official-crdroid-7-1-tissot-13-11-2020.4195351/
I installed this kernel, cause you was saying it is probably a kernel issue, so I tried to look for most recent kernel.
And then, it worked, so I think you was right.
I can't be sure it will work with all ROM, but I think.
Hello Mi A1 friends.
So yesterday I decided to change my crack LCD screen and to my surprise the phone boots into Xiaomi Logo and then after that its just a black screen. Message and other notifcation sounds still come in which means that the phone mange to boot into home screen, just with nothing to display. At the time of changing screen, I am on stock kernel and Pixel Experience 10.
Gonna flash back to stock pie(9) rom and see how it goes from there.

Sry for reply to an old post, but how did you do it? How did you flash kernel when you can't enter twrp because of screen issues? I have exact the same problem, where stock rom works but everything else cause blank screen. Also can't boot to twrp - probably the same reason.
