It's been quite a while since I've last installed custom roms and now that I have the G2 I just want to make sure the process I have in my head is correct in order to run [ROM] Verizon Stock Rooted OTA Debloated VS98012B [12/26/13]
Stock rom > Root > install latest TWRP/CWM > wipe cache / dalvik > flash rom = much success?
If i'm flashing the 12B rom on top of the stock 11A - is there anything beside the rom I have to flash? Modem? Gapps?
that will work

No offense to you at all sharkares but hopefully someone else could also confirm. Not saying that your post count at 2 makes you untrustworthy but I've been burned by a similar situation in the past. Can anyone else confirm?

im a newbew to this forum.
i just upgrade my G2 F320S from 10k to 20a to make myself sure.
10k rooted -> flashed CWM 6.0.3.x -> added F320S rom file(zip) and supersu.zip to /sdcard/ -> boot with recovery -> flash rom -> wipe cache -> flash supersu.zip -> reboot and tada!
once again, good luck

Actually that reply helps. Thanks
Sounds like thats all you need how did you flash your rom with out a custom recovery? You can also do this method link to follow
Well... hmph. I totally blew it and accidentally updated to 12B before rooting. Wasn't paying attention to prompts. I'm pretty sure I saw a method for rooting from 12B, now I have to try and find that method again.

Oh and I tried factory reset which I thought would revert me from 12B to 11A (which would be factory but I guess the OTA stays applied?)
Is there a was of reverting back to 12B to 11A while non rooted and no custom recovery installed?
If you follow this it should work pages 84 should have how to root the 12b

thank you sir. I'll give it a shot.
Well, that thread led me to believe that 12B could be rooted with 2.11.1 driver and ioroot16. Unfortunately my device is being listed as offline under command prompt for adb devices.
Make sure your adb version is correct pls also plug it in and see if it is showing up on your device manager in windiws if thats what os you are using

I'm not sure why but after trying the same process a couple times it started working, weird.
Ive heard of a lot of using using adb commands so im not too surprised but your phone is back where you need it to be now right?

No idea about flashing a 12b ROM over an 11a ota, but I would think it would be fine.
You can flash the 12b modem just to do it, the only issue would be rooting a 12b ota. Not many of the devs have started patching their Roms to work with the 12b ota

You need to use a .lok file patched for 12b of you are on the vs980 datechnerd has made the .lok image and twrp 2.6.3.3 and .4 for 12 b, but unless you want issues you're better off not taking the ota. As I posted above. Not many people are patching for 12b yet.
You can flash the modem fine and flash Roms but the actual ota will give you probs.
I used the flash tool to go back to 10b then rooted and flashed the 12b radio

Thanks Lawlrus.
So my situation is this: Stock > OTA to 12B. Rooted on 12B and have yet to install recovery. I want to flash :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586379
I was reading the thread about installing custom recoveries on 12B but it seems like its very difficult to get the actual roms to flash from 12B.
So, would I be better off installing the recovery on 12B and then reverting back to 11A or 10B and then flashing the debloated rom on top of that? As far as I can tell that would be the most successful way of doing things? And if I do revert back, do I have to reroot and then flash?

I've been trying to hold off on rooting my new GS4, but after a few weeks, the bug finally bit me. I got the custom recovery installed, and I installed SuperSU from withing the recovery, but due to some update errors when I rebooted, I never have gained root with the factory ROM. To be honest though, I don't care if I have root in the factory ROM, I just want to wipe the facory ROM and get CM onto my new device. Since I have a custom recovery, can I just say **** it and wipe and install the latest CM nightly, or is it absolutely imperative that I gain root in the factory ROM before I wipe and install a custom ROM?

Maybe it'd be more accurate to say that I can't get SuperSU working. I used Odin to flash a custom recovery, booted into custom recovery, flashed SuperSU, rebooted, but instead of launching SuperSU first, I updated SuperSU through Google Play. I then ran SuperSU and it couldn't install the binaries, realizing that I probably shouldn't have updated SuperSU before running it first, I uninstalled the update, then ran SuperSU, but it still cannot install the needed binaries, and since I was never able to get SuperSU working properly in the first place, I cannot gain access to /system to remove the SuperSU apk and try again. So I'm hoping that since I don't even care about TouchWIZ, I just want to get CM up and running, I can just boot into recovery, wipe everything and then flash CM.
I don't think you can do that without bonking ur phone need to get and cf root so it will install the root binaries on ur phone SuperSU will work without ur running cf root it will not work that's why ur getting the error can't install binaries that's cuz ur not rooted

Ok, thanks. I'll give that a shot. Is it going to cause a problem though that I've already flashed SuperSU, or will CF-Auto-Root just overwrite.
And on an unrelated topic, I've seen multiple times now while researching rooting the GS4 people saying to make a special backup of the efs folder to backup your IMEI info. I've rooted many devices now (Nexus One, Epic 4G Touch, Captivate, One X, original Galaxy Tab for Sprint) and I've never seen mention of making a special backup of the efs folder. Is this something new for LTE devices or what?

Awesome, that worked like a charm, but since that uses a stock recovery, I now need to get a custom recovery back onto the device, and that's easy. However, I remember when I first got my Epic 4G Touch, if I wanted to flash a custom ROM, I had to first extract the kernel out of the ROM, flash the ROM, then flash the kernel, then reboot. Eventually this was fixed so all you had to do what just flash the ROM and reboot and you were good to go. Will I need to flash the kernel separately with this phone as well?

Apparently there is a bug in which when using auxiliary cables/headphones where there is a crackling/hissing sound in the background, I cannot comment on this since I have not experienced it and I use auxiliary cables every weekend for dj stuff and I also use headphones at least once everyday. There is now a fix for this using G2TweaksBox
So I remember from the very beginning everyone complained that there battery was being drained by Bluetooth right after flash without ever wiping/factory resetting, but I have been using kitkat for about two months now and if after 12 hours it's used 5% then wow that's not a drain, the Bluetooth now works in a low energy state just like Wi-Fi so that even if it's off it's always on in a low energy state which means its not draining your battery.
When I have more time I will add more stuff that is stock kit kat related

After rooting stock KK with ioroot25, isn't it possible to install a recovery? you just need to flash a patched kernel with loki enabled after flashing the recovery to boot back into "stock" rom

The only way is to have recovery on JB then flash Kk baseband for your variant and one of the Kk roms that use the patched kernel. Those Kk roms are mixed firmwares that use parts from Jb to make them work with the kernel and recovery and make sure loki is not broken. So that is why recovery can't be installed on full stock rooted Kk.
EDIT- There are now root and recovery methods/installers for stock KK. Mixed firmware is still used to keep JB bootstack.

ok so for some reason for the first few weeks the Bluetooth reports a false positive(it reports a lot of hours of use but it's not actually draining your battery), if you actually use Bluetooth on a daily basis it will eventually stop giving out the false positive, mines stopped reporting 7-15 hours and now only reports around 2-4 hours which is the actual use I give it on a daily basis
I appreciate the fast response. Sounds like I'll wait it out and see what happens but that's good too know it's a false positive. Thanks again!

I just got the update. I think Motorola is getting ready to update their Moto devices to Lollipop.
Im on CWM
Is it weird that I got the notification for the 4.4.4 update even though I use CWM instead of the stock recovery?
When I got the 4.4.3 update, I installed it via the OTA and didn't change from CWM to stock recovery. Nothing seemed wrong. But from what I understood you shouldn't be able to get OTA updates if you have a custom recovery?
I'm on Philz recovery. Unfortunately can't install the OTA. While installing error appears saying that there is a problem with verification Exchange2.apk...

I've got Philz Recovery and I can update with the update zip.
My system partition was unmodified (The Exchange error like it happens to Legomina was caused by a system modification).
Have a rooted device with xposed. OTA does not apply either with stock recovery or philz. Does anyone have a full SBF instead (I hate OTAs anyway, they never quite work for me)?

Thanks for this! Updated using this. My falcon was rooted using Superboot. So the recovery was stock. I was using xposed modules. I followed these steps:
1. Downloaded the file in OP
2. Copied it to sdcard
3. Booted to recovery
4. Selected install update from sdcard and then selected the update zip
5. Done! :good:
It took around 5 minutes for all this process. Thanks a lot @tony_evl :highfive:

x1032, Amazon, Global version
I just bought my x1032 Moto G from Amazon. The global GSM (international) version. I learned how to and I unlocked bootloader, flahsed TWRP 2.8.1.0 as my recovery and rooted yesterday!
Currently running 4.4.3. What do I need to do to install 4.4.4?
Total noob here. Moto G is my first andrioid device

I'm on CWM and got the update notification? Is that weird? I flashed the 4.4.3 update through CWM and the update notification.

No, that's not weird. You get that notification, you can even download it. But it won't get installed :silly:
Does anyone have a flashable .zip ROM or a system dump for the 4.4.4 update?
But my 4.4.3 update installed seemingly correctly through CWM. I didnt witness anything out of the ordinary like any bugs.

I have my tmobile d801 running lollipop 5.0.2 rooted with twrp installed. Now that ive discovered that there are no roms for lollipop im going to downgrade to original firmware that runs 4.4.2 so i can try out some of the roms that have been developed. Ive found a way to root, though i cannot find a guide to install twrp, all the guides seem to have twrp for a different model of lg g2.
What version of twrp do i need and how can i flash it for the d801?
Go to the Play Store and search for AutoRec for your D801 for lollipop and install and your good to go as long as your rooted.

doesn't that contradict what firmware is going to be on the phone? im on lollipop 5.0.2 now, i think the original is 4.4.2 if i downgrade by using the lg toolkit. does autorec work for d801 work for kitkat? confusion here. At this point being rooted and twrp on lollipop, im not able to install any of the roms that have been made for 4.4.2.
Can you make it clear to me?

If you`re on 5.0.2 lollipop then you need to install autorec from play store to get twrp installed but you must be rooted in order for it to work.If your trying to downgrade back to kit kat then I think you don`t have to be rooted or have twrp installed at all in your flashing to stock kit kat rom.
If your trying to return to stock kit kat read here.

If you just need twrp recovery then download Autorec for D801 for Lollipop in the Play Store.

You are misunderstanding. I am using a Tmobile d801 on lollipop that is rooted and twrp installed. There are no custom roms.
I want to revert to 4.4.2, so that i can use custom roms, so the autorec for lollipop would do me no good to root and install twrp.
What would i need to do to root and get twrp installed on 4.4.2? i know how to go back to stock, but im going back to stock rom because i want to root and install twrp. What you are telling me is to use the autorec for lollipop...which ive already done. im rooted and twrp installed on lollipop, but i want to downgrade and need to know how to install twrp on 4.4.2

That's because the phone is not rooted.Maybe try LG one click root.If the phone didn't reboot and you see android updating then it's probably not rooted.

You need to turn on developers mode and follow the instructions carefully. When it asks you go in download mode and you get stuck at 90% just wait about a minute and then hold power down and let phone reboot.Let me know if you need full instructions.
If that didn't work. This is what I used on my phone.I just remembered.

That didn't work on my T-Mobile G2 D801 ("Device is patched, sorry"). In fact I've tried Purple Drake, ioroot, StumpRoot, LGOneClickRoot. None of these work. I wonder what's different with your G2 that allows StumpRoot (or any other rooting) to succeed. I'm contemplating a downgrade all the way to KK 4.2.2 as both LP 5.0 and KK 4.4.2 seem impervious to rooting.

I downgraded my phone back to Kit Kat on a D800 and rooted Kit Kat stock Rom just today with StumpRoot. If you are on stock Kit Kat Rom it should. If you install the StumpRoot apk on your phone and let it did it thing and when ask to reboot phone after reboot it should reboot on its on once more and then your rooted.Supernova will not show up in app drawer but you should be rooted.Just work for me.I think because you don't see it in app drawer you think it's not rooted. They're apps in Play Store to check.

No, I always use a root checker to get root status. It seems we're comparing apples & oranges - we have a different phone and different versions of Android. But thanks for trying to help.

So I just bought a verizon LG v20 which has 8.0.0 on it. Simple question. Can I still downgrade using upercut and LGUP and then use dirty santa. I found the correct Firmware on lg-drivers and have it all ready and set. Some posts are saying that you can some people say you can't downgrade. I am just trying to figure out which is right. YES I searched multiple posts...
1. Can I downgrade when the phone arrives?
2. Can I still use dirty santa when I downgrade?
3. Why do some say patched and some say not? Is that because some models firmware are non-downgradeable?

Yes you can downgrade, probably only need to use the regular LG up, downgrade to a security patch prior to Dec 2016, follow the dirty santa instructions, flash updated twrp, within twrp standard wipe, format data, flash rom, flash magisk

Its that easy?
Yes. But I'll suggest before hand updating to the firmware version of your choice, and dumping it with LGUP (same tool you use to flash firmware packages). There's a lack of flashable stock ROMs for the v20 variants, so you'll be stuck on an ancient firmware version after rooting. Once you've flashed the DirtySanta engineering bootloader, you can flash back part of the dump (minus aboot and recovery), allowing you to keep TWRP/Engineering Bootloader while still having the system version of your choice.

Yea, but those updated stock custom build also pack a bunch of other crap you may or may not want. Its much better to start from fresh, do your own debloating, then pick and choose what you want. There's also the side benefit of not having to deal with AFH's godawful download speed. The VS995 has stock KDZ so restoring from stock isn't a big problem, but having your own dump on hand let you get back to the latest (or close to latest) system update and skip 2-3gb of OTAs

I just want a rom like Lineage OS or something that allows custom sets for my device. I am getting confused? just flash this rom with lg up, then use dirty santa, then install the rom correct? I haven't rooted since my nexus 6p since vzw locks the pixel and pixel 2 xl bootloaders -_- ... attached a screenshot of the rom.. its got 3k downloads and is marked 2016-12-24 3691(downloads) SO I assume I flash this first. then do the dirtsanta exploit? My last question is how do I install roms with these newer devices? Do I format everything(I got an sd card) and just keep the sd card clean? Would love some info!
Heres the link to the screenshot I tried adding. https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-vs995-firmwares/#tab=firmwares

You have to install Magisk/SuperSu to keep TWRP, otherwise the system will replace it with stock recovery everytime it boots. If you already have the Engineering Bootloader installed by following DirtySanta up to Step 3, just reboot into fastboot (hold volume down while phone is off, plug cable) and reflash TWRP with fastboot.
