Hello everyone,
I just got my Galaxy S4 a couple of hours ago and i'm loving it! I've been an iPhone user for some time but I have had some experience on Androids before back when I had my Galaxy S3.
I'm familiar with Rooting and flashing custom ROMS but i'd like to try those built-in features the Galaxy S4 has before flashing Custom ROMS.
When I had my GS3, my favorite kernel was the "Siyah Kernel" because it had the Dual-Boot option. Is there something similar on the GS4?
Anyways, it's good to be back and i'll do my best to help out whenever I can.
Oh, and sorry if this is the wrong section but I couldn't find a proper one to post this.

Hi guys,
I'm new to android, but after doing some research, I have come to the conclusion that I do not want to use the Touchwiz UI on the Samsung Galaxy S4 I intend to purchase in about a week or so. I have watched a couple videos regarding Cyanogen Mod and the SuperNexus Project that all have the rooted software and mod on a Galaxy S3 or other android device. Because the Galaxy S4 is such a new phone, I haven't see any videos regarding this process on that phone, and when searching it in Google, I find results with search titles that are geared towards S2 or S3 users. Could someone here please tell me if it's possible to install the SuperNexus mods on a rooted Galaxy S4, and if so whether it's the same process or if it is different. Thank you very much.

I rooted my Sprint GS4, installed TWRP, Titanium Backup and Goomanager last night with the help of one of our members. Thought I was in trouble for a while but success was finally accomplished. I don't see a lot of roms out there for the Sprint variant. Can anyone make any suggestions for a vanilla AOKP based rom for me? All I've come across is Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightlies. It seems like the type of rom I am looking for but I'm curious how stable and complete they might be. I haven't had a rooted phone since my old Nexus One. I'm sure as time goes on there will be more and more available??? Thanks everyone for your help with my question. Have a great day!!

Asking for best ROM is not allowed on xda-developers. There is simply no best ROM. It's like walking into a bar and asking which drink is the best. You can't get your answer because every person around has a personal taste and looking for something different.
Developers have worked very hard to make them perfect, however every ROM has it's own pros and cons. You have to find the ROM, which suits your needs and wishes. Telling that one is better than another is also quite disrespectful towards the developer(s).
Mod Edit
"Best" or "Recommend" ROM / Kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself. That is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion, and then,
you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.

I have Galaxy S4 GT-i9515 Value edition (jfvelte) currently with cyanogenmod 14.1 Unofficial and it is terrible. My camera isn't working and apps are lagging and crashing and the phone reboots randomly.I use my phone as a daily drive and this is unacceptable for me.Since Samsung are "smart" and have released 800 different versions of the same phone, and with my luck i have the least popular version and even tho i have been searching alot i can't find any ROM at all.Can you guys help out,if you know a good custom ROM for my version,or if you know ROM for other S4 version, that will work on mine(probably not,i had already read the thread here and people are saying their touchscreen is not working).I love my S4 and want to get the maximum out of it,and having an custom ROM is just awesome, but in the worst case i will install the stock ROM.You guys are my last chance
Look through the pages of this section.
There should be a few ROMs there, though I believe most are android 5/6.
Hello guys,
Sorry if this has been asked many times before. I'm really curious about the performance of Nougat or Oreo using a Custom ROM versus the stock Lollipop on an S4 I9505.
Do the Custom ROMS of Nougat/Oreo really improve the performance on an I9505 compared to the stock Lollipop? How about the battery?
Really looking forward to answers regarding this.
Anyone who knows this or could test this out of me?
Everyone has different needs whereby one custom ROM may be perfect for one person and a stock ROM is perfect for another person.
I highly recommend reading through the custom ROM forum, selecting a few to try, and using it over a few days with your most-used apps.

Thanks for your answer. Is there a specific custom ROM with Oreo/Nougat that you might have in mind when it comes to performance?
Unfortunately, I can't provide any recommendations since I haven't had a working s4 for a months.
