system software not authorized by samsung message (SOLVED) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

can someone please please help me i tried to install odin on my phone, and now i have this "system software not authorized by samsung message" and i can not get into recovery or anything else it boots up to this yellow triangle with the message....can someone help me, i can get into odin mode but when i flash anything it boots up to the same yellow triangle with the system software not authorized screen everytime... please please someone help me...this is not my first go around with flashing or installing roms.

Your recovery partition has become corrupted. It's pretty easy to address. You can find Philz recovery in a tar format in the dev threads on here, which you then flash through ODIN, and you'll be able to continue rooting or whatever you were doing in the first place.

i downloaded Philz recovery and flashed it odin and on reboot i still get the yellow triangle with system software not authorized by samsung message again....

Which build were you on? Just download whatever build you were on, put phone in download mode and flash that through Odin...That should get you back to stock.

Just remember that if you updated to 4.3 there is no reverting back to anything lower than that.

There's a thread that contains all the modems/firmware somewhere in dev. Find the one with the MK2 modem and download it. At least, that's one of the common reasons for WiFi to stop working.

So I had this problem and and the solution ended up being pretty simple. After finding this thread along with other info I just followed the instructions in the OP of this thread. I was on stock 4.4.2, which I acquired via a regular ole OTA, and attempted to downgrade without doing any research (mainly because I had downgraded before with no problem, but it had been a while). So I got the "
System software not authorized by Samsung has been found on your phone.

" message.
So if you got the "System software..." message, it's probably because before you tried to do whatever it was you did (probably trying to flash to a version below 4.3...maybe it was something else entirely? I don't know you) you had 4.3 MK2 or 4.4 NAE through OTA and, therefore, had the Knox bootloader. The solution for me was to ODIN flash a .tar of the version I was on before I bricked the phone.
Again, here's the link to the thread I followed with stock 4.4.2 NAE. The OP warns that you'll get the Knox bootloader if you flash it, but if you have the "System software" problem, you have already have Knox. It will also wipe all data from your phone.
And the link to the directory mentioned by the above poster.
So I posted this to summarize the solution to this problem...because I over-complicated it and took a while to figure it out. And hopefully to make search results of the problem easier to find.
Summary of the summary: ODIN flash a TAR of the version you had before things went awry; there are basically only two choices: MK2 and NAE. Hope this helps

[Q] The Ultimate BRICKED Samsung Galaxy S4 Challenge =)

Long Story As Short As Possible:
1-I Rooted my Sprint Galaxy S4 (with MF9) using Qbking77's You tube instructions (No Probs) !!
2-I dropped the Services.Odex, and Services.Jar into the systems/folder to replace the ones in there using root explorer to get the native hot spot working (It did NOT work) !!!
3-So I flashed via oden a "New" hot spot for rooted roms: "MDCHotspotMod-Odexed" onto the system, and now I am bricked...
I can boot into TWRP, BUT can't flash a rom to the system as it Fails.
I can flash the root "CF-Auto-Root-jfltespr-jfltespr-sphl720.tar" via oden which puts the stock recovery back onto the phone, BUT that wont't flash roms either.
SO, at a complete loss, I factory reset the device wiping everything, and it just boots to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Logo.
I downloaded the following: L720VPUAMDC_L720SPTAMDC_L720VPUAMDC_HOME.tar.md5 to try and flash back to stock in Oden, BUT, when I hit "Start" it doesn't do anything but say "The Parameter is incorrect"
This is the Stock MDC File, NOT the MF9 that my phone was currently on...
ANY SUGGESTIONS !!! Thanks guys.
Solved !!! Used MF9 Stock Tar file in Oden !!!
Glad you got it working!
Just in case you were wondering why it didn't work initially - you were on MF9, and you tried to flash the MDC hotspot mod.
And yes, flashing the stock MF9 in ODIN was the right step to fix this. If you now want to install the hotspot mod, make a nandroid backup, download the MF9 version and flash it in TWRP.

Yep - this is the one that I use as well.
@Ar3ohdee Just make sure that you get the correct version depending on your ROM - odex/deodex and MDC/MDL/MF9
BTW, if you were on stock MDC, you could update OTA to MDL and then to MF9 - that option would have worked too. But flashing the stock MF9 is quicker.

you may need to give us more info than that. what did you try flashing? were you already running a custom rom? mdc, mdl, mf9? did you try manually booting to recovery? (power + vol up)
open a new thread too, may have better luck

Bricked on mk2
So I was on stock rooted mk2 with twrp recovery. Did a nand. Flashed kt kernel. Phone wouldn't get passed Samsung splash screen. Couldn't even boot into recovery. Took it to best buy. Tech, if you can call him that, said was bricked and I needed a replacement. Luckily just bought it so free replacement. Played dumb. Probably could have recovered if I Odin the stock firmware. My question is, what do you think caused the brick? Mk2 bootloader? Twrp? The kernel? I flashed plenty of roms and kernels on my s2 without problems. BTW flashed Hotspot mod with cwm and worked.

Odin wont work S4 L720

Sorry it didn't help, but I too had the problem... Where no matter whatI did it would fail. And I too had the Write Protection Enabled in download mode, but all I did was re downloaded Odin to my computer, made sure Kies wasn't installed and used original cable on different USB port and guess what? Walla... I was back to flashing and had a working phone once again... But maybe someone else can help you out or you can figure it out so that you can have a working phone once again...

[Q] Stuck on sprint screen?

I recently put CM on a buddies sprint s4 and he came back to me wanting to go back to stock because he wanted to sell the phone.
I got Odin 3.07 and downloaded the most recent download (L720VPUEMJA) from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258107
and flashed the MD5 file via Odin.
Everything looked as if it had worked, except when i tried to boot up the phone it just gets stuck at the yellow sprint screen. I never had a backup (I'm an idiot, I know) but I can still get into download mode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

[Q] Help! Error Updating from MJA to MK2 on Sim Unlocked Phone

Hi,
I have looked all over this website and others for the solution to my problem. If there is a thread for this then I am sorry, but I couldnt find it.
I recently moved from the US to Mexico. I took my SPH-L720 to a phone technician to get my SIM unlocked and am now using it on the Iusacell network. Everything was working fine until I tried to install the MK2 update. The OTA update downloaded just fine, but when it is installing it gets about halfway and then displays a dead Android robot with a red triangle and an exclamation mark and the word "Error".
I do not believe that the phone technician rooted my phone. I think he flashed my modem to MDC. My build number is MJA. My software version is MDC.
Can anybody help me? My phone seems quirky after the MJA update, especially battery life. I am hoping MK2 will fix everything. Also, I have a Mac and not a PC.

Sounds like there is a whole lot going on with your phone setup with so many inconsistancies.
If the Modem(baseband) is MDC - which it woul probably have had to be to do the SIM unlock stuff, and your build is MJA but your software version is MDC you've got a lot of stuff to look at.
How did the tech flash your phone? PC Odin? or via a zip/recovery. If it was flashed via a custom recovery (meaning you have one on your phone) then the OTA will fail/error. Same thing with a custom kernel - failure of OTA. Stock boot/kernels are required for OTAs to work.
The latest update is actually MK2 and not MJA by the way.
You can flash a .tar using Heimdal. Sammobile has the full MK2 one here.
BUT you'll probably need to do some fancy stuff with you APNs to get it to work on your current network - time to see tech who helped you again.

Thanks for replying so quickly! I am very new to all of this stuff. If I flash the .tar file will that fix everything? Do I need to root my phone to flash the .tar file? Also, will my SIM remain unlocked or will it relock?
As for the APN, I think I already know all of the necessary info to input because when the tech unlocked the SIM he didn't input the APN info.
BY the way I know MK2 is the latest build and that is why I am trying to update from MJA to MK2. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear in the OP.
Sorry, I also forgot to mention that I don't know if the technician flashed it with Odin or a zip/recovery because I left my phone there for a few hours. Is there a way to check?

See if you have a custom recovery.
Boot to recovery - Power off. Then Power on+Volume Up+Home button and see if something like CWM, TWRP or Philz recovery loads.
If it is just Spring/Samsung recovery then he flashed the modem via Odin and not a custom recovery. Either way just power off to boot again.

[Q] I think I may have actually bricked my phone for the first time, after NAE update

So first of all, I know better. I'm super pissed at myself, and I'm hoping one of you can help me out of this. I borked my stock NAE ROM by messing with xposed framework after I successfully updated to KitKat this morning. I have since executed what seems to be a cascade of failures, which has left me unable to even ODIN my phone back to MK2 (probably because you can't revert back to the MK2 bootloader once the NAE bootloader is installed).
Does anyone have a TAR or nandroid of NAE that I can download? I've been attempting to download the one that's on MEGA for the last 6 hours, and it's only at 13%. I have file storage available for you to upload it to, if you PM me. I'm really in a jam.
Here's what happened:
I was at 4.2.2 without knox this morning (never updated to MJA or MK2). I decided I didn't care if I had knox, because I wanted kitkat and didn't want to wait for an alternative method of updating without the bootloader. I ODINed MK2, updated to NAE, installed Philz, rooted, and was back in business. Everything went surprisingly smoothly. Then I decided I missed some of the features that nottach xposed gave me with my 4.2.2 ROM, so I installed the framework. When I enabled the nottach module, it got stuck at the sprint screen. It was then that I realized that the last nandroid backup I took was on 4.2.2. ARGH! So I wiped data. Still no boot. Then I decided I may as well just wipe everything and ODIN back to MK2 and start with a fresh ROM. I wiped system, cache, etc., and booted into to download mode. ODIN fails on the aboot.mbn portion. The phone says "Sw Rev. check fail: Found: 5, Binary: 4. I'm assuming that's because KNOX won't let me revert to an earlier bootloader, even if MK2 has knox as well.
Am I hosed? It seems like if I had a working TAR of NAE, I could ODIN it and start from scratch. I'd be totally fine with that at this point, since my phone won't boot at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've never been in this predicament before, and I've been flashing/rooting phones since WM6. Sigh...
Sorry man. Unfortunately, I am in the same boat. I went back to stock yesterday to take the OTA to 4.4, then re-installed philz and flashed another rom after I was done checking it out. Seeing that Sprint agreed today to let me trade in my phone (L720) for the newer L720T, which is what I should have received in the first place, I have to return to all stock. I tried re-flashing MK2 with odin and got the same same error you did. I have a nandroid of my rooted NAE, so I can get back there, but I do not know how to get back to all stock again.
Dang, that sucks. Seems like you might have to wait on the NAE tar. Did you already try flashing the user-generated NAE tar someone here cooked up?

That tar has been trying to download on my machine for the past 7 or 8 hours, from Mega. Fortunately, a friend of mine was able to download it and I was able to get it from him. I'm in the process of ODINing it now. It didn't fail at the aboot section, so there's definitely hope. I'll report back.

I'm in the process of flashing it now. It got past where MK2 failed, but it isn't finished yet.
That tar failed for me, about 90% through the system partition.
I was finally able to get my phone up and running. I flashed only the system partition with Heimdall after ODINing failed. After that, it booted right up! I'm out of the woods. Gabe, let me know if there's anything I can do to help you get out of your jam.

Thanks man. Glad you got up and running. I just had to re-flash the NAE modem, philz, and a new rom to get it working. Since there are no complete stock NAE tar files out yet, and the old ones aren't working, I'll just have to wait and hope one gets released in the next couple of days.
