[Q] Unable to flash any files - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Happy New Year!
I was flashing 4.4.2 last nite using fastboot commands. All was well until, on last file which was system.img. During this flash, it seemed to just hang there. Then, unexpectedly, while waiting things out, I got a BSOD and had to reboot the pc. Now, I cannot flash anything. I can boot the Nexus into bootloader ok, but it just stays there. Cannot boot into recovery, it just goes back to bootloader. I can use fastboot to reboot, flash cache and userdata, but not recovery.img or bootloader-xxx-xxx.img or system.img or boot.img. It just hangs.
How can I reformat or get a recovery or system image onto my Nexus? Hopefully the answer doesn't include advice such as putting it under my car tire.....
Thanks :crying:

Brrrr ......sure is cold out here.......all alone 'n such.

I'm happy to report that my problem has solved itself.
After spending all morning trying to solve my issues, I decided to give up for now and powered down the now useless tablet.
This evening, after seeing ( disappointedly) no replies to my thread, I decided to try one more time. For inexplicable reasons, it all worked. I was able to successfully flash all image files using fastboot. Why it decided to work this time and not before remains a mystery to me. I did nothing different that I could tell. Same commands, same sequence etc.
After flashing system.img, I rebooted the device and viola, 4.4.2 kitkat is in the house!
The BSOD I discover, was due to CPU overheating, reaching temps up around 60 C.
I really don't know what effect or impact that might have had on my problems. I'll need a higher IQ to sort that one out. Whatever, problem gone.
I wish everyone a happy new year. :good:

Bricked N7- won't respond to ADB commands

I''m reluctant to post about this, mainly because in my years of using Android devices I've always been able to solve the issue myself. This one though is a whole other story.
This morning I turned on my N7(it's the 2013 wi-fi version) and it got stuck on the google screen. My device has TWRP installed and had been rooted at one point, but I let a factory update break root and never tried to reroot it. I rebooted, I went into fastboot and tried to boot into recovery. Same problem. So I figured no problem, I've seen this before, let's try the N7 root kit to fix this. Every file it pushed failed. I tried the one click factory restore for a bricked device, same thing.
So I figured it was time to ADB commands to get this sucker sorted. I have my factory image downloaded, extracted into the platform tools file (I've done this a few times before), and started going through the commands. First one up? "fastboot erase boot". I entered that command nearly 30 minutes ago, and it still is stuck on "erasing 'boot' ..." .
Perhaps needless to say I've exhausted the methods known to me and have no clue what to do next. So any help, suggestions, advice on how to fix this would be much appreciated. I've accepted I'm going to lose all my data. At this point I just need to figure out how to get this running again period. Thanks in advance!
Have you tried the flash-all script bundled with the stock images?

[Q] Nexus 10 stuck in boot after attempting root

Hi.
So, a quick overview. My laptop suddenly stopped recognizing my Nexus 10 while in the midst of transferring some files over. I decided to finally root. I used the cf-autoroot tool for Nexus 10 Lollipop. The last step of the rooting involves an automatic reboot. Now my Nexus 10 is stuck in the boot.
Details:
theunlockr (DOT) com/2014/11/22/how-to-root-the-nexus-10-on-android-5-0/
That is the guide I used, including the linked cf-autoroot. Sorry for the formatting, I don't have enough posts to post links.
My Nexus 10 is stuck on the step where it shows the four circles moving around. Not sure if that's important.
The cf-autoroot appeared to work successfully except for a piece in the middle that reads:
Same problem. The procedure seemed to go well, except maybe the mounting failed? It says:
Mounting...
- System
- Cache
--- Fail
I tried using the tool several times on two computers, and did my best to update drivers directly from Google (it appears the drivers are all up to date).
My Nexus 10 was on Lollipop. As far as I know, it was up to date, so I think that means it was on 5.0.1
Help?
Hello autoroot is no longer required. Supersu from recovery is enough.
You could just reflash original kernel
Does
Fastboot boot boot. Img works? It boots on the given image without flaging. The boot image is located in the archive to update

This is what I have come here to find out. I'm receiving my Nexus 10 in the mail today. I'm familiar with Nexus devices so I just assume everything is the same with the Nexus 10. But I know since Lollipop came out, there have been changes to how to root on certain devices. Are you saying that everything has been fixed to where I can just install the latest TWRP and flash the latest beta SuperSU on stock ROM and I will be good? If so, then it's the same as my Nexus 5 so I shouldn't have any issues.

Yep, just flash once SU through twrp(in order to get the su binary in the system partition) and then you can use play store to update the binary and the program itself.
CM12 has built in su and nighties are official now.

Thanks. I just wanted to double check before I went jumping into it. I'm looking forward to tinkering with it when I get home from work.

So I attempted to do all this when I got home yesterday. I found that after unlocking the bootloader, I got stuck in a boot loop. After doing some research I found that this has been an issue with the Nexus 10. Is there a reason for this? I read that locking the bootloader again fixed it, which it did. But I didn't want it locked. So I researched more and found that a a factory reset in stock recovery would fix it. I still had a boot loop. I managed to somehow get everything straightened out with a series of random tries and after installing TWRP and rooting and, again, getting the boot loop I attempted to go back into recovery but accidentally did a simple restart. For some reason, it booted right up after the restart so now I think everything is fine. But why is the Nexus 10 being so difficult? I never had these issues with other Nexus devices. Maybe some of this info will help the OP as well.
Hm unlocking the bootloader does erase whole content but I guess you are already aware of that.
How long did you wait? First boot can take ages much longer than before.
I never had any issues and I have my bootloader unlocked

I let it sit for a while. I own a Nexus 5 and I'm familiar with the long first boot. It just seemed like a long time to me. I thought maybe since it was a two year old device that it may take longer. The device is new to me so I'm not familiar with boot times and all that are specific to it yet. But compared to the boot time after I relocked the boot loader, there was a big difference. After re-locking, it booted up in about a minute or two. Flashing TWRP even seemed to mess up some stuff. I think it may have deleted the OS or something. It couldn't mount anything afterwards and even selecting reboot boot loader gave me the prompt that there was no OS installed. So I flashed the system.img, cache.img and userdata.img manually. Which seemed to fix it. And even after I got everything straightened out, it boot up in about a minute or two again. The only time I had issues with getting it to boot is unlocking the boot loader coming from complete stock.

Once you get in recovery mode with the android and the red explanation mark, hit all three buttons (Vol up , down and power) until (It can be tricky keep trying) you get a menu. Then use the volume buttons to select "Wipe Data/Factory rest" let it do its thing and reboot. Allow it to boot for 5-10 minutes.
Good luck

Deleted Bootloader on LeEco S3 X626

A couple weeks back I deleted the OS off of my phone while messing with TWRP recovery trying to install a custom ROM. I looked around the forums and i got my phone to the point where It booted into a stripped down version of android with stock recovery on it, although everything was mirriored and backwards. But when i tried to install the stock rom for my LeEco S3 with stock recovery it got stuck i a boot loop and I couldn't turn off the phone or boot into recovery or anything. So i let it keep booting until it ran out of battery and died. So then i decided i would put the stripped down version back on and start again.
So I went back to my sp flash tool and reinstalled all the partions except the boot and recovery partitions (according to the steps on the forum) but my phone still wont boot into anything, it is completely black and wont boot into recovery or fastboot, and im running out of ideas on how to fix this phone :crying:
After pretty much giving up all hope of fixing my phone, i figured i would try the format option in the flash tool and then reinstall all of the pattitions. I selected format all flash, not doing proper research first, and now i cant even reinstall partions, I get a STATUS_BROM_CMD_SEND_DA_FAIL error anytime i try to flash the partitions.
can you at least get the phone to fastboot mode?

No I cannot, The screen is completely black and nothing comes on at all if I hold down the power button.

I have already looked through that thread, and i have done everything up to the flashing process, and then I get a STATUS_BROM_CMD_SEND_DA_FAIL (0xC0060003) Error. I looked it up but the only option I haven't tried to solve the issue is to remove the battery, which i cannot do currently because to remove the battery you need a heat gun to remove the screen to get to the rest of the phone. I think I've given up all hope on fixing this phone and may just begin saving for a new one.

tmobile s8 boot loop-ish

hey all,
Saturday morning a wake up to my alarm on my phone (SM-G950U T-Mobile Stock since new) and turn off the alarm and proceed to check email and scroll social medias. A few minuted later phone turns off and starts boot looping. Occasionally it would boot to home screen and i could unlock it but then maybe 30 seconds later it would start boot loping again. Now it either just boot loops or boots straight to recovery . I have tried flashing current firmware in case it was corrupted and i have tried accessing it through ADB. I know for a fact USB debugging is on because I just used abd to pull wifi passwords 2 weeks ago, but when I try to [ abd devices] if comes up as unauthorized and I cannot proceed. I know everyone will suggest a factory reset, but I am hoping someone has a trick for extracting files. I dont care about most on my phone, but I would like to save the pics from my GF and I trip this past august. Apparently I didnt have my photo library set to sync to cloud -_-
thanks
-chip
update: it appears there is a pattern. it boot loops or boots to recovery (after a blue failed system update screen) 99% of the time. the 1% it boot fully and then crashes is only when battery is 0% . it for some reason is only trickle charging and isnt getting enough juice when it does boot fully to stay on . But if i leave it charging a while it will then only boot loop or boot to recovery. Strange...any way I had enough time this past boot to reauthorize usb debug.....wish me luck with adb
....nevermind. still shows up as unauthorized

Ive had similar cases happen with older models. May be time for a battery. They will do crazy **** when the battery crashes. When you flashed stock firmware you lost adb authorisation. Need to get the system back first for that.

Cheapest fix in my opinion. I saw another thread a guy dropped his. Now detects 9008 how to fix. More than likely a phone wont just not boot. Or lose programming unless a hardware issue. So if it was just running and quit. Not modding stuff really. More likely than not its gonna be some form of software. But hardware.

Replaced Daughter board and battery. No improvement :/ bummer
the only time i can get it back into recovery is after a "successful" flash with odin. by successful i mean that it says it worked but it just continues to boot loop or boots to recovery. attached is a picture of the info i get in recovery every time. hope someone can shed some light in the issue. im using my old phone so i dont feel pressured to call the data a loss and try a factory reset just yet....my old phone is a POS though

Yea some one tried to root it using the edl safestrap thread. Only wsy to fix it is filled the steps and reflash jrkruses pie rom. One of my mother boards are in the same state. That's the only way dm verity fails. Is his rom method.
There's some easy to flash a cache wipe in Odin but I hadn't found it yet. I have 2 mother boards and one is identical. I flash this stock and lose download or recovery. but the errors you show are only from doing that edl safestrap
Ill be honest..i have no idea what you are talking about. Ive messed with the software with previous devices and never heard of safe strap. This one has been bone stock since I got it from Tmobile and i haven't attempt to flash anything until i had this issue. never tried to root it

Help fixing bricked Nexus 7?

Hi guys, a few weeks ago I revived my old 2012 N7 and have been getting some decent use out of it, however after trying to flash one of the Nexus factory images I think I may have bricked the device. I'll get straight to the point and explain more further down.
1. The bootloader is unlocked
2. The tablet boots into this screen - https://i.imgur.com/nzYaXLt.jpg
3. Whenever I boot into the bootloader the screen turns off (I believe the bootloader is the main cause of this issue)
4. Booting to recovery does nothing
5. Fastboot works(at least detects the device - https://i.imgur.com/yUGTVjh.jpg
6. When i try to flash a nexus factory image I get this error, then the tablet boots into the bootloader with a black screen - https://i.imgur.com/Kc9adlJ.jpg
7. Attempting to flash TWRP recovery results in this error - https://i.imgur.com/SHuQZWK.jpg
8. A video of what happens when I try different things: https://youtu.be/JBBT__nGJS8
I'm pretty sure the issues happened because there was some sort of failure halfway through a factory image flash(I flashed quite a few of the factory images but was trying to find the one I liked the most), so I unplugged the tablet( I know:/ ) as the flashing wasn't progressing at all after the error.
If anyone can help it'll be massively appreciated, I hope I've made it clear on what's going on with the device, and I'll be able to further explain things if needed
Sorry to tell you, but it looks to me as if the emmc memory is broken ... bootloader cannot be flashed / updated. If you had done a backup of your binary blobs before as described here there would have been the chance to reformat and to recover from scratch. Otherwise I suppose there is nothing you can do now. Our devices are becoming ancient ...

Cheers for the reply It does make sense that the memory is broken as the tablet often fully freezed/switched off randomly during the last 4/5 days of its life. Just a shame because it was actually working surpisingly well before the memory issues! And also, thank you for the 7.1.2 AOSP ROM, definitely the best working ROM I tried as it never seemed to have any issues with it
