All I want is root and recovery, so I can flash a volume mod and auto hide soft keys.
I am referring to build VS98012B - which I heard there is no way to get recovery on?
I am planning on installing the 2.11.1 drivers, but I dont know what version of ioroot to use and what not...
You could flash older kdz if nothing else works.

OK so this is whats going on
I have tried several way to push or downlode recovery twrp and cwm on my lg g2 it is fully rooted i check it through the app it says it has full root priviliges.
Everytime i run the recovery it take me to a black screen with a green android lying with its belly open.
I have tired installing recovery through adb but i either end up getting a loki file wont go through or it wont load or the it says it cant open the twrp image. I have followed step by step instruction through youtube. I dont know whats going on.

You could always use flashify. Use it to download the TWRP .zip. Extract the .img file into the phone, then use flashify to flash that .img file you extracted. Reboot into recovery to see if it stuck.

You can maybe install a trial version of windows and root.
Use ioroot. Works on mac perfectly and easy as it can be.
Connect phone and enable usb debugging.
In your ioroot folder there is a file called ioroot.tool. launch it and terminal will start and the script will look for your phone immediately. Follow instructions what it tells u to do. Very easy.
After root. install and run autorec app. to get workable firmware so twrp or cwm can be accessed. Otherwise u get bootloop (i always do)
Then install flashify app and flash desired recovery (latest version).
No adb commands needed through all this.
After this u can download and flash roms til kingdom come..
(easy boot to recovery while on stock is through flashify. Click option and it will have a reboot to recovert option)
I have an i337. Never had any OTAs. I was using a recovery that would 'auto-loki' so I never had to flash the lokidoki zip before.
I'm trying to install the latest GPE by Danvdh and I keep ending up booting into twrp(2.6.0.0).
I wipe all that one would normally wipe.
Then I flash the ROM.
The aroma installer starts, I've tried the googy kernal and (mostly) the stock kernal.
I uncheck the reboot now option at the end of the aroma installer to get back into twrp
I then flash the lokidoki zip.
I reboot and get kicked back into the recovery.
I'm thinking I may need a newer version of TWRP, but I'm not sure. I dont want to use odin to get back on jellybean just to update the recovery unless I know that's the issue.
the loki zip is ~10MB
Any info is much appreciated. I've been at this for hours.
You need a newer version of twrp. You don't need to use Odin. Look for the flashify app in the play store.

My phone is only booting into recovery though. I have the latest twrp image. Is there a way to flash it from within twrp?

If you can find a zip. I'd make one for you, they're easy once you know how, but I'm traveling on business and don't have access to a computer.

Sweet! I'll try that today!
Thanks very much for the help
Problem: Can't boot into OS on my D800. When booting the screen stays at LG logo and LED keeps flashing green and blue.
Hisotry:
1) Had original AT&T D800 not rooted, no recovery. Got OTA upgrade to Lollipop.
2) Got new phone so decide to debloat to give phone to my wife (on T-mobile)
3) Read xda forums. Downgraded to d80010o using LG flash utility. rooted. installed older version of twrp using autorec. now phone won't boot but can get into download/twrp
4) got into firmware download mode and flashed d80010d using lg flash utility. this time copied new twrp on sdcard and stripped version of rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g2/development/rom-stock-lollipop-30b-stripped-t3144195) along with dorilp kernel
5) went back to twrp. flashed stripped rom and kernal.
Still no dice. Exact same situation. I can get into download mode/twrp but when booting system gets stuck on LG logo with led slowly flashing.
what am I doing wrong ?
Are you able to get into recovery? With a lolipo ROM you have to download KitKat boot stack or simply download blastgator lollipop ROM patch from here http://blastagator.ddns.net

From what I read in the OP of that ROM, you're supposed to just flash the rom zip, boot up, go back into recovery and flash the kernel.
"To install ROM, just flash the zip! (Note: The zip isn't signed.) My zip flashes everything you need for the ROM to work correctly.
Recommended: Flash @dorimanx kernel after install. My zip includes stock 30f kernel."
Maybe that's the problem?

okay.. installed the patch. still no dice. still getting same stuck at LG logo with led flashing.
also dorimanx kernal is installed. still getting the issue. btw i am not married to this ROM. Any AT&T rom will work. I think there is some mismatch of bootloader/kernal/rom and what not.
what things I can check ?
pulling my hair out.
whatever rom I install using twrp it gets stuck on LG logo. i think i see some message about not being able to unmount /system (but rest of install succeeds).
only way I can get back in OS is to use LG flash utility and flash d80010d or d80010o which basically wipes away everything (recovery, root etc).
assuming I am on stock d80010d, can someone please give idiot proof step by step direction (do i need to check modem version/baseband/bootloader/radio/recovery versions or something to make sure it is compatible ?)

yes I do ..
Ok flash back via tot to kitkat and take ota to lollipop. Then use autorec v2. *Do not use the twrp thats comes autorec as it does not flash roms* flash a BUMPED twrp using twrp. Then install your lolipop rom then afterwards install the dormainx d800 lollipop patch just for safe measure but it should work without flashing it.

thanks for suggestion.. but once I take LP OTA, how will i use autorec ? I thought LP can't be rooted and custom recovery can't be flashed.
also all I can find is Autorec not autorec v2.

Yeah it can be rooted. Download stumproot and install it, follow it thru the steps and do the brute force root. Takes a few minutes but it works. I've done it on stock a couple of times. Get autorec v2 on playstore.

i just read that stumproot is not supported anymore..
Actually instead of stumproot, use srk tool to root stock lollipop. I have had success with that.

Been looking through the root guide and of course will be unlocking and rooting. Should I first unlock, flash TWRP, load stock. Set up stock with my accounts and settings. Reboot to TWRP. Make NAND back up. Then root and then flash a rom? I'm still confused about the library IMG file. Will I need to do anything with it assuming the phone I receive was manufactured within the last 2 months?
Any other tips/suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you plan on unlocking bootloader, do that first. Device has to be wiped clean when doing so.
update to the March MHC19I update before modifying the system partition. It'll save you the headache of doing it via fastboot and re-rooting.

So unlock bootloader. Flash TWRP. Load stock. Update to latest update (can I do this via OTA?) Then NAND back up and flash ROM?

I'll give it a try. Comments from anyone?
Unlock bootloader then upgrade to latest FW by OTA (or vice versa?), then flash TWRP and nandroid. Now root.
Great. I hope the OTA will pop up as soon as possible or is there a way to manually search for updates through system settings? By the way, thank you everyone.

Unlock your bootloader, then take the OTA(s) to the latest build (MHC19I). You can't take an OTA with TWRP installed so don't flash that first. If for some reason the OTA doesn't appear you can just flash the factory images for the latest build in order to update. Once you're fully up to date you can flash TWRP and make a nandroid backup. Then just flash whatever ROM you want to use. Keep in mind that after flashing the ROM + gapps you also need to flash the appropriate vendor image to suit the build of the ROM you're flashing. You can flash it with fastboot, or use the "install image" option in bottom-right corner of the install menu in TWRP (TWRP can flash some images now).
I have detailed instructions in my guide:
