When using Chrome beta websites fail to load quite often. It will finish loading but display nothing. And it will never download anything. But using stock browser it does. What is the reason to this and is there a fix? As it is quite annoying not being able to do simple tasks like browsing the internet and downloading files

Interesting. In normal Chrome I am having problems with "black" pages and other glitchiness. I believe I was told it was a problem with Chrome on 4.4 AOSP.

I love Chrome on the desktop, but I don't like it on the phone. I always use the stock Browser as it seems to be smoother. Will we be able to put the current Stock browser on the Nexus 4 when it comes out, or will we be stuck with Chrome?
You could probably use the 4.1 browser on 4.2, just have to put it in /system/app rather than installing it like a normal app

You should be able to. And I'm sure Chrome will run smoother on the Nexus 4 than you think, considering Chrome (and most if not all Google apps) is build for Nexus devices.

Man I feel the EXACT same way. Like chrome a lot on a Computer, cant stand it on android. It is so laggy and inconsistent. The ics browser that originally shipped with the galaxy nexus is, to me, by far the best mobile browser on any phone. Google should have stuck to that.

Pretty sure 4.2 will have its own stock browser, just not installed on the Nexus 4 by default. You can always grab that and install it.

Chrome is the stock browser in 4.2
There's always this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beansoft.browserplus&hl=en
If not put the jelly bean browser into system/app and you should have it back.
I agree with you though, i have both installed on my phone but always use the stock browser and only sometime use chrome
10 seconds after i'm rooted on this phone is when chrome.apk meets the delete button.

AOSP will always have a browser and it's not gonna be chrome since it's not a part of AOSP, the stock browser of 4.2 would be the stock android browser. Google will just be shipping with chrome like N7.

You place the APK in to system/app and then you have to delete BrowserProxyProvider.apk (or similar) and it works

Was just about to mention this. AOSP has the stock browser by default, whereas factory images from Google will have Chrome by default.
Never liked chrome browser and definitely prefer stock.
Not a fan of Chrome on the phone either. It's more of a tablet browser (works well on my Transformer Prime), but Chrome sucks as a phone browser. It also lags like crap on my Nexus S.
I'll play with it, probably it's going to be much faster on the Nexus 4, but knowing how much resource it takes, I might just go back to the Stock Browser.
deltatux
so can the 4.1 browser be used on an non rooted nexus 4? if so how please?
So now that 4.2 is out on the galaxy nexus has anyone tried to install it on the nexus 4? have you succeed?

Yes, my galaxy nexus with stock 4.2. It does not have chrome, it has the stock aosp browser.

Same here. I didn't realize it was the browser doing it, but it makes sense. It doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it, but I'll check this thread. At least we have a common denominator now .

I'm currently using Chrome.
everytime i download anything.... i always get a ghost download from before.
adware did that to me last night. I don't think it's the phone though... more the app itself. I had to go into the app then uncheck the notification to get it off.
generally notifications are fine to clear, occasionally i'll get a few stuck ones but opening/closing the drop menu will unstick it and be able to clear it after.
Maybe a UI hiccup ?
I know there are forums for other phones on this topic but I don't believe there are any for the Nexus 4.
Chrome has been absolute trash for my Nexus 4, which is stock. It lags like no other. Anyone using chrome on the nexus 4 and isn't having the same problem, as in the browser works great? I'm currently using Dolphin to resolve the issue. But why would google make chrome the default browser when it clearly isn't ready for prime time? The stock ASOP browser was much better. Comments anyone?

I am using Chrome Beta works great. Feels faster and better then the stock one. Try the beta one and see how it is for you.
I've been using Dolphin over Chrome for a while now, can't get over the fact you can't set a home page for Chrome, I know you can set a home screen shortcut, but still.
No lag here. Using regular chrome and chrome beta.
No lag for me either. The only lag I get is when the page is still loading and I'm flicking around the screen. I will admit chrome lags on other devices. Its just the raw power of this phone thats making it not lag.

I'm running stock out the box setup. I've tried chrome beta and that's even worse.
I don't know what the excuse is for the state of chrome for android. The beta and the new stable version have absolutely atrocious font rendering and are extremely laggy. I already though chrome for android was a mess and that the stock browser should never have been removed as the default for new devices but this is just ridiculous. I seriously think whoever is the project leader for chrome for android needs to be dismissed. It is seriously an embarassment to the platform and has ruined the stock performance of the nexus 7, 4, and 10. All three devices are butter smooth on a pure aosp rom or cm10 in the aosp browser. They are a chopfest with the stock chrome. I honestly think the only way to fix chrome now is to just rebase it on the stock aosp browser and rename it chrome.
They don't understand that we're not all masochists.
Install a third party browser.
No problems with Chrome on my 7 or my Galaxy Nexus. I use it as my main browser on both.
Does this thread serve a purpose other than whining about something that takes 30 seconds to change if you don't like it?
I have the aosp browser installed (running aokp 4.2.2) but many people especially the general public will only use chrome because its the default. As it stands right now its a complete mess. If you don't think it is install the aosp browser and then try to say chrome is better.
I agree with the OP, Chrome is a disgrace for android. It's very laggy, slow and the fonts displayed on web pages looks horrible.
I have the stock Rom with aosp browser, chrome is a crap, slower than any other browser, really laggy, really slow rendering, the only good thing is the integration with the Google services, I really like Google and love android, but, I'm not a zombie, if something works bad, I don't going to say is good only because I like who made it.
Only reason I use Chrome is because of syncing. Syncing in stock AOSP browser doesn't work in 4.2.2. I wish they'd hurry up and release ChromeSync for 4.2.2.
I like chrome :c The text is super clear if you ask me

Have you guys tried chrome beta? There's two versions of chrome.. Chrome beta is new and actively being developed on. I get updates once a week just about.

The OP is right. I have both the older version of chrome and chrome beta installed on my Nexus 7. I'm rooted but otherwise everything is stock. The fonts are slightly fuzzier in the beta version.
And much more annoying sometimes text is randomly sized way too small no matter what zoom I have set in the accessibility settings. This happens a lot on the xda forums in fact. I can literally switch between chrome (ver18) and the beta on the same page and thing look perfect in the old stable version but in the beta some post responses are tiny while others are normal.
My fear is that this bug along with the fuzzy fonts is now part of the stable chrome update. I was just beginning to like chrome again
And honestly I bet chrome is the number one reason why noobs buying a nexus 7 have a poor experience. Which is a shame because this is an amazing device.
You know what? Screw Chrome. It has always been buggy and slow and probably will be for a while. The most underrated but best browser there is hands down is x scope. I don't understand why it isn't more popular. I have tried all the browsers and it is by far the best. The quick toggles and ability to swipe the screen to go back and forth are extremely intuitive.

It performs better on my Nexus S than my Nexus 7. It's an interesting situation to say the least

Slightly of topic but if I backup chrome with titanium backup will I be able to restore the old version of chrome if I don't like the update? I'm just wondering since you can't uninstall chrome (through the normal ui) the way you can other apps from the play store.
The most annoying problem for me is that it renders text differently in portrait and landscape modes. XDA for example becomes absolutely unreadable in portrait. And zooming without auto-reflow is also a pain in the ass.
The worst thing? They don't use their public bug tracker and don't react to any bug reports in any way.

Or just install chromebookmarksyncadapter.apk in system apps. I'm currently using stock rooted deodexed ROMs on both my 7 and galaxy nexus with aosp browser.
On topic, I have no problems with chrome on my nexus 7, it runs well and smoothly, I simply use the aosp browser because I prefer the layout, flash support, and quick controls.
Edit: for anyone wanting aforementioned apk. Simply place https://www.box.com/thisguy in system apps, reboot, check sync options and you should now have option to sync browser.

Actually Google realised something was wrong with Chrome main. they publicaly said itll soon be getting plenty more stability updates and bugfixes. so they admitted fault there and the beta is exactly that. a beta. its them actually letting us test the versions they test faster.
so when you take these considerations in fact. the only thing you are whining about is them not updating fast enough. and thats just silly

I tried finding x scope in the Play Store but there is only the paid version.
Just got my new note 3 today (sim free N9005) and I don't like the stock browser as compared to my note 2. I found the browser to be loading slower, pages are not zoomed properly, kinetic scrolling is not as responsive and for some really strange reason when I click at a picture on mobile version of Facebook website, it is displayed very small in size. Chrome does not seem to suffer from this problem. Can anyone else please confirm these performance issues and possibly suggest solutions. I am really annoyed because of stock browser's performance and miss my note 2.

I stopped using the stock browser as soon as I had turned on any accessibility services as it started talking! 'Page loading' 'page loaded" etc. Very annoying. Mostly using Chrome and Boat browsers now.

Stopped in to look at one today and the most important feature for me to check out first was the browser. I was not impressed. No text flow and similar issues as other posters. I left sprint without buying. Very disappointing

Looks like i might go with the G2. Browser is super important to me and i dont like chrome or the other 3rd party browser ( except the AOSP one) but it defeats the purpose of using the touchwiz feature within the stock browser itself.
They removed Quick Controls, Google Bookmarks AND Flash Support... no thank you.
I thought the N3 would be better than N2 & N1 in every aspect? But no... worse browser, worse speaker... better region lock though
