A small dirt under the glass.

Hey. I got my tab from the USA and it works great. After two days, I noticed little dirt under the glass. I thougt its a stuck pixel but it is not. I can see it when the screen is black. It doesnt bother be and it is very hard to see, but how a small dirt got there?

Did you buy the tab new? If not, it might have had its screen or it's glass replaced. If the previous owner did it themselves and wasn't in a relatively dust-free environment, that could cause it. If the tab was new, it could mean that part of the screen isn't glued down as well as it should be. (You can test for this by pressing around the edges of the glass.) It could also mean that some dust got in there during assembly. (If the tab is new.) If it isn't bothering you, you can leave it. I don't really think it's worth sending away to Samsung. Apart from that, if it is a US tab, and you are outside of the US, you would have to ship it back to the US since the warranty is not global, but applies only for the country in which it was purchased. (This is tied to the serial number, so the US serial qualifies it for US warranty and disqualifies it for any other warranty.) Hope this helps.

I have the exact same thing. It's like a pixel sized dust. You can see it when tab is off under bright light. Noticed it 3 weeks after I got the tab. It is right below , left of the stereo input.
It looks like the dust is in between the protective layer and actual display. I did not know if these two layers are seperable. Not a big deal but would like to know if there is any fix.

My tab is brand new. I dont have warrenty in Israel but I can fix it here. Is the tab 100 percent dust sealed? I guess that dust and small dirt can enter any device...

I noticed it after 2 days. However, I can live with it. Most of the people wont even notice it.

I have another case of this. Perfect screen with one tiny spec. Hard to see it, but once you notice it... You notice it. I'm curious of possible fixes too.

I think you have to remove the glass and clean it... Anyway, its like to repaint your car when you a tiny scratch on it. For now I will leave it as it is.

The frame of my Tab wasn't fully glued when I got it. At least it felt like that, after a while of pushing it down from time to time it was fine. Maybe some dust got in there when the frame was coming out.

I had the same thing from the refurbished one I bought from Newegg. I called them instead of Newco and they told me to send it to them and they will replace it. So now the wait. I will keep you guys posted on what they do for me.

FWIW, it is not as simple as just removing the glass/digitizer from the display and cleaning it off. The digitizer (the glass on the front of the tab) is held in place by adhesive tape. The adhesive is about the width of the black border all the way around the screen, so about 1/2" or 50mm, the adhesive is also very, very strong. I'm sure you could get it off without damaging the digitizer, but it would be a long tedious process risking both the LCD and the digitizer itself. If you do manage to remove it without destroying it, then you clean it, and have to apply new adhesive, and replace it, and hope you didn't miss any dust.
Heat will help release the adhesive, but IMO there is still more risk than reward in doing this to a tab with a good digitizer. I have replaced the digitizer on my tab when it was broken, and I have got to say that it is a tedious process. In the end, I had everything as clean as possible outside a cleanroom, and I ended up with some dust specs under the digitizer. If it is under warranty, and you can utilize said warranty, that is definitely the way to go.
Also, the back side of the tab is not sealed at all. The glass should be sealed to the LCD, not the entire tab sealed in the back case. If anything, I could believe that dust could enter between the digitizer and LCD where the FPC cable exits the digitizer, there is a very narrow band of adhesive tape in this location. If it was going to fail, and let stuff in after manufacturer, I would guess it would be here.

[Q] Nexus 7 Screen cracked! Questions.

Okay so it's been less than a f***ing week and I've managed to crack my Nexus 7 32GB 3G. Hell yeah. Fell on a bathroom ceramic tile from 4 foot high and the corner bit chipped off. The entire touch screen works though, it's just the corner bit cracked.
SO ANYWAYS! I have a few questions for those smart guys out there that know about displays.
First of all, I've found out from the internet, that because the LCD and the Digitiser are glued together, I'd need to buy them together. Otherwise known as a Nexus 7 Display Assembly.
Few questions:
1) If I buy a display assembly from ebay for example, will it be of less quality than ASUS's original screen, or will it probably just be a part from ASUS anyways?
2) If I do buy this display assembly, will it still have the same number of Pixels as the original screen?
3) Will it have the same brightness, same touch responsiveness, same all that **** as the original screen?
If not, I may consider just repairing directly from ASUS, so...
4) How much does it cost in pounds(£) to repair the N7 Screen all in, taking into account my shipping fees from the UK?
Seriously need someone who has any experience of this whatsoever
I'm considering if I should repair this with the 3rd party screen and sell it privately if it's not the same quality, then buy a brand new one for myself. What's your guys thoughts on this? I really need some of your expert advice

I JUST replaced the screen on my nexus. I bought the display assembly from powerbookmedic.com, and the tools I needed from iFixit.com. All in all, it cost me around $200 in the States. The repair process was pretty easy, and the screen looks and functions exactly the same as the original screen. My only suggestion would be to make sure you have some good adhesive. I have a little screen lift now because the adhesive lost its traction when I took the cracked screen off the upper casing. Good luck!

Huh? Adhesive? We have to add adhesive? I thought adhesive was only to the digitiser + the lcd screen? I thought that it already comes assembled when you buy the part, because apparently you have to buy it together? If it isn't used for digitiser/lcd screen, then what did you use adhesive for?

The digitizer is indeed fused to the glass, but the silver ring you see around your screen is also fixed to the glass with adhesive, and that part doesn't come with the LCD/digitizer assembly.
The screen affixed itself to this upper casing on mine okay, but I do have about a millimeter or so of screen lift now which I didn't have before.

The best way to attach the new display is to use very thin two sided tape. you cut it in 1/8 inch strips. Apple it all the way around the bezel. then with a sharp knife run it along the inside bezel. Pay close attention to the thin bezel area on the left side ({where screen lift occurs) To be sure you do have it perfect in that area.. Ithe screen face down on cloth . Push the bezel onto the sticky tape (with film removed of course.. Turn device over and put back together.. LEAVING OUT THE TWO CENTER SCREWS or leave then very loose on the left side.(if you have a newer model of nexus these screws will be gone anyway). I have done many phone /tablet screens . If you can get it apart and back together you can replace the screen assembly..
No real need to send it to someone else nexus is easy to dissemble reassemble
Good Luck... Buy a full working 8 gb from ebay for 150.00 might be your best best....

Any clue How to detach the broken glass\digitazer\lcd from this aluminiun bezel?

I recently broke my screen as well. I saw on ebay only 2 options. First option is a screen only for about $50 which doesn't look like it will do anything for me. You the second option is a digitizer for around $300. $300 clearly exceeds the cost of a brand new device so that wouldn't make any sense at all. Even $200 doesn't make sense as I can buy a 8gb device for that and swap screens. I have the 16gb model. Does anyone have any cheaper sources for screen/digitizer that make economic sense?

It seems pretty pointless to me why you posted that in response to my comment about the chinese website because
a) It was a chinese website... I just needed some help because of the language lol
b) It seems we're only interested in the screen which is what was being suggested... not the a full device like you said lol
c) Your price is $179... his price for the screen was ~$120... so even if I was to harnass only the screen in your one... I'm still at a loss.. lol

Actually $179 for an entire new (refurbished) nexus 7 with 16gb more storage than mine is a very tempting option. I may choose to do that vs spending almost the same to import a screen from China, have to go through the hassle of installing it myself and hopefully do it properly and have it look clean and factory. If I did that then I could still hang on to my broken one in hopes that in 6 months or so the screen prices might drop to a more reasonable price.

Ok folks, there's probably a thread on this somewhere, but I haven't found it yet, and frankly I've got plenty to do as it is, so forgive me for not making a thorough search.
Anyhow, I've managed to crack the screen just above the home and app buttons, which is a pain, but **** happens. I've noticed that on eBay the screen + LCD combo is around A$140 while the front glass alone is only A$27. Now, since the Lcd isn't damaged, that kinda looks awesome, right? Except, I haven't found any instructions on how to replace the front glass alone with out ****ing with the LCD too. Anyone know?
Plenty of vids on YouTube on how to change the combo, which is a bit of a pain in the arse compared to other phones. All I want to change is the glass. Any help would be much appreciated.

use a hairdryer for loosening the adhesive to separate glass and digitizer , being patient is the key but there is a good chance of messing it up

It was my understanding that the screen assembly was next to impossible to disassemble without damaging the other layers of the screen. It seems hard enough to separate from its housing I can't imagine the difficulty in de-laminating the glass from the digitizer/LCD.
I just replaced my front with the combo part from etradesupply it was pretty expensive but 0 hassle. A couple of screws later and I moved to the old main board to the new front part... No heating no heavy prying.
Good luck with your fix.

Didn't you have to heat the battery to move it when you did the swap? My fear is ill damage one of those wafer thin ribbon cables in the process too. Just looks like a mission of a job from the vid I watched on YouTube. Would hate know how much a tech guy would charge though.

Like I said, it was pricey, but i couldn't risk me screwing it up further since I run my architecture firm with this phone. I was looking for a minimal down time solution because the alternative for me was just buy a new phone in a retail store the next day. Not having access to the lower parts of my screen was seriously limiting. I slogged away for a week using all sorts of work-arounds to activate the dial pad, use parts of the keyboard etc while I waited for the replacement part.
This guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZDAIgwbXk4 does not show the heating stage but he is so freaking calm, it can't be that bad... Do remove the main board before prying on the battery if you go that route...

I just want to add, for anyone finding this thread, that the part I got from etradesupply.com has some pretty obvious yellowing of the screen. This screen was either removed from someone else's n4 because of this defect or taken from the reject bin at the factory.
In the future if I have any breaks, I will sent it to an LG facility.

Does anyone know of another place to buy the front screen with housing? It is OOS at etradesupply....

Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 - Extra Screen Replacement Information

My Ex droped her Phone and it had Spider Webs all accross. Her Provider send it in to see what it would cost to fix. The Phone also would stop working correctly in the middle of calls.
It turns out buying a new one would have come cheaper atleast thats what came back as a answear.
So I decided to bite the apple and try replacing the Screen myself. My Ex was not happy because she thought with the second Problem it is not worth the effort to fix the Screen and maybe loose everything. My reasoning was that when the Spider Web Screen touches the Digitizer it will react strangely. So I went ahead and searched the web on how to do it. I ordered a Screen for $9 on ebay (free shipping) which came with a couple of Tools. More on those later.
One of the first Problems I found was that all instructions that I found showed the beginning and the end. But in the middle how the phone will look like when the glass is finaly taken off, I was unable to find much Information about it. Also doing it Redneck style without Special liquids and or a heat guns was no where to be found.
I decided to just try it. Disasembly is well documented and easy enough to do on this device. Atleast to the Point where most electronics are removed so that you can apply heat without too much problems. I decided on using a blow dryer to heat up the Display. I layed the Blow Dryer on the Counter turned it on and Held the phone up to it. Thinking if my fingers get too hot chances are it is too hot for the Display too.. Might be a little incaccurate to read the temperature like that but hey it worked. But soon after I started to remove the first pieces of broken glass I ran into Problems.
As per instructions I found, I put a Piece of tape accros the Screen so that the individuall pieces stayed ogether. That did not work at all for me. It just made the individual pieces push against the valuable digitizer below it. My next Problem was that the Tools that came with the replacement glass, especially the Little plastic Tools did not hold up to the Job und the tip was soon useless. I had to Switch to a Raizor blade. A couple of times I sliped and hit the Digitizer. Thinking oh well I guess I Need to get a new one. Luckely on the end it all worked out much better then I would have hoped. The left over glue I rubbed mostly off with my finger which worked out nicely. To clean it completely from ist glue took some time. The black rubber allong the side of the phone allso suffered. You might want to look out that that does not get riped out completely. I had enough left over so that the glass would sit on it good enough luckely.
Take a look at these Pictures and remember it works perfectly again for $9. While it is not for everyone to seperate a Glass from a Digitizer it is acctualy less fragile as you might think. The third Picture Shows you how it looked with all the scuff marks from taking off the glass. You can still see a few little marks on the end but hard to notice and much better then before. I am sure next time I will be more carefull and use the blade from the beginning on.
I got more Pictures and will improve this Thread for others that have to go through it. Feel free to PM me if you have any Questions. A list of other resources will also be included. This is only to explain and Show the bare state.

You should be able to find a new Frame for a resonable Price. Now to remove the digitizer from the Frame that is another Story. Not sure if it was the Glue or what Held it in place but I could not figure out how to get that out. luckely the two Buttons at the bottom survived the Screen removal and so I did not hat to take the Digitizer out.

Useful information and explains why repair shops will usually only replace the complete assembly. Read many complaints that those cheap ebay screens are plastic and easily scratched, not genuine gorilla glass replacements?

It is definetly cheaper then the original but if you have done it once. Chances are You will be able to do it again much easier. So if the $9 Glass only holds for example a Year. You can just replace it again. Or spend a little more for a original replacement glass.
Now I should Point out if the rubber seal around it gets damaged in the process and if the 3M Tape that should come with the Screen is placed wrong it will Impact the sensitivity of the sreen touches. I guess I did it right because my Ex is happy how it performs and that is saying allot.

If you get down to removing the digitizer from the Frame take a couple of Pictures and post them here.

Back glass of the S8 feels like plastic?

Just like the title says. If I tap the back of my S8+ with my fingernail, it sure as hell doesn't feel like glass.
Anyone else agree?

Noup it's glass, your tap test is useless, since it has more to do with what's behind the glass and how it is placed in the case.
Here's a scratch test, that will tell you what it is actually made of (different materials scratch at different pick hardness. In simple words. You can't scratch glass with paper):

When I tap near the top or bottom edge, the sound is somehow firmer, than when I tap in the middle? There it's just plasticky, or hollow inside. Is it normal, or is it just mine? It's making me crazy, and for the life of me I can't find a video or anyone talking about it.

Thanks for that. I bought it five days ago, and never paid much attention, until I heard that my broken Xiaomi Mi5 sounds firmer on the back glass than a 700€ Samsung. I'm taking it tomorrow back, and asking to show me another example of it. If it's the same, I'll be really disappointed at Samsung. Not because it really matters, but because at that price point things like that just shouldn't exist. Man I am annoyed....

I get your meaning and I appreciate it. And I would wholeheartedly agree with you, if not for the fact that a plastic J5 that I use for work sounds firmer and better/fuller than S8 on the back, and it's a floating piece of real plastic attached only at the edges as well. In fact, I'd rather expect J5 to survive submerging than this one. The screen feels like glass, the back does not. The problem is that I think it wasn't that pronounced when I first unboxed it. I can't be sure however.
On the other hand, I definitely want a 700€ feel on a 700€ phone. This is not being spoiled, it's that If I'm paying for the S8 for the next 6 months, i want an S8 and not Xiaomi. In other words, i want to feel happy that I spent 700€, I don't want to feel tricked.

So, here it is what i mean. The sound can't be heard very well because of the lousy J5 camera, but the wobbling is clearly seen.
Is it everyone's that wobbles this much in the middle or just mine?

I have the s8+ and i do not have this wobble you mention. tapping shows it seems hollow around the centre but i expect this as the back glass is secured around the edges where it is solid. It's the same with my s6.

Oh wow. I retract what I said. Mine is very sturdy compared to that. No wobble at all. Just seems "less solid than a solid ingot of glass". I can kinda hear a bit of hollow space behind the glass, but that's stretching it.
Yours seems defective. Very much so.

Yeah, today's exactly 7th day since I got it. I'll have to do it tomorrow because of work, and it's gonna be a darn ordeal convincing Telenor that it's a defect.
The procedure is they'll send it to a certified repair service, I'll get some junk replacement and probably gonna get it back 2 weeks from now at best. I'll have to see if I'm able to pull some strings so that I at least get a new device afterwards and not the "here we repaired it" same one, as my company is one of their important (lol) clients.
"Certified service partners" are very protected here, as opposed to consumers.
I'd like to have with me an example of a proper one, though. Or a video...

A question. Our company's technician says that he saw all the tests about s8 as he wants to buy it, and that the back glass has to be bendable, so that in case of breaking it doesn't shatter to pieces, but remains composite. It sounds plausible enough, but why the screen is not as bendable as the back, it's the same G5 glass?
Could it be that you guys check on different lighting conditions if it bends a bit? In the video I made I barely pressed the back at all.
I don't want to go through the whole return procedure just to get it back with the same explanation. It would mean a lot to me.

I had the silver one and it was for sure glass but now I have the all black and im pretty sure it's plastic

Back cover is plastic
I bought a brand new Galaxy S8 plus from Sprint. Just opened it to replace charging port. The back cover on mine is plastic

Why would you open it to replace the charging port if you bought it brand new you just voided the warranty Doesnt make much sense As all the S8s brand new are most def glass

Back glass is plastic

I bought the phone new from Sprint more than a year ago when it first came out. Recently I had to open it to replace the charging port. When I removed the back cover it was plastic.

There is no way I assure you if its a legit device it was glass That is part of the advertisement specs and all.Only option was sprint was selling clones or it was a refurb with a aftermarket back witch is highly unlikely as even Company's like Assurion use glass backs
Now the glass will have some flex to it not much I wouldn't suggest bending or such.
If its not real glass its either been replaced or said above
