I'm trying to update from 4.2.2 -> 4.3 using Odin software. I've tried several versions of Odin - but they all fail with following error:

After that my phone does not work, it will only boot to screen saying "Odin mode" ....... "UDC START".
The firmware have I downloaded from sammobile.com.
I have to mention that I come from Denmark and the firmware is meant for "France (Orange)" - version 4.3 is not yet released for other european countries.
Afterwards I've also tried to reinstall 4.2.2 - but this one fails with following error:

Try installing custom recovery and root it first

Simple guide to do that ?
Thanks for your reply
Is there a simple way to do that; and which files should I use for GT-I9506 ?

Regarding my SIZE error trying to flash with 4.3: <ID:0/003> FAIL! (Size)
Should I use 'repartition' doing the upgrade with Odin ??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568958
Please also give me a simple guide to root + recover my phone in case that upgade to 4.3 via Odin is impossible.
Right now I am not able to boot the phone in recovery mode!
Thanks in advance.

you have successfully flash 4.3 bootloader (not the complete rom) , what means you will not be able to flash a 4.2.2 rom anymore, so if you try to do that you will be wasting your time. Just concentrate on flashing successfully stock 4.3.
Repartition option is only indicated if you have inside the flashing file a pit file with the partition information table (pit). I see in the first flashing chance as it has a pit file, so yes, try to check repartition. Important: use odin 3.09, none else...

This photo is DOWNLOAD MODE. I think is better u dont update coz u still having ur KNOX (0x0). This mean u still having warranty. Anyway ur phone dont have this update ready either for ur country.
EDIT: U know ur phone have to be in DOWNLOAD MODE (photo u attached) when u wanna flash new firmware with Odin (I recommend u Odin 3.09)? Are u using Win 8 or 7 maybe?

I am using Win 7.
What is the problem if I would try using 'repartition' with Odin ?

No problem if you have the stock pit file inside the stock rom tar, if you put repartition and there is not a pit file, you will get error in repartition and it will not do anything, so no problem at all...

I suppose I need to repartition in order to flash 4.3 to my phone as it seems to need more space i different partitions.
From 4.4.2 -> 4.3 system.img has grown from about 1.9 GB -> 2.1 GB.

PIT FILE needed
I found a pit-file for GT-I9505 - will that be suitable for flashing 4.3 on my GT-I9506 ?

Probably wrong pit.file !
Tried with this pit.file CSB_signed_Fusion3_EUR_0325_V2.pit, but it fails:

And after that try - I can no longer boot phone to download mode.
It ends up with the SAMSUNG logo !

Progress
Actually I am able to boot to "Android system recovery".
I have now done 'wipe data' + 'wipe 'cache' - what should I do next ?
If I simply choose 'reboot' - it ends up with the SAMSUNG logo.

Tried once more to flash 4.3
Tried once more to flash firmware - but same error (FAIL! (Size) )
I guess that I need the correct pit-file for GT-I9506 used for Android 4.3.

I understand you still can access download mode successfully.
Yes, maybe inside the pit file it has an entry with the model for that pit (i9505), odin detect you have a i9506 and it doesn't success (fails).
You should download the correct firmware i9506 with pit included, or any other firmware, because consider you still have a partition made.

Progress .... new challenges
Thanks a lot for your big help
My phone does now seem to be running ok, but with a major problem.
The firmware image I have flashed was meant for France (Orange) - and I am from Denmark
I don't understand a single word of french
In order to use the phone, I need to change language on the phone - how will that be possible ?
Afterwards I will try to get rid of all the Orange applications installed on the phone.

CANNOT return to STOCK for the the LIFE OF ME

Hi fellas, So here I am up at 5:42am (australian time) trying to fix my phone for the past 12 or so hours.
The Situation:
I can go into download mode as well as CWM recovery
- I cannot flash a stock rom via ODIN because it triggers the: INVALID EXT4 image error
- If I flash a rom via CWM, I can only boot up to the load screen
So guys, this is my last call. I'm willing to try ANYTHING.
EDIT1:
So here's the error message I receive when I try to flash a stock rom in ODIN:

Though it will flash the kitkat bootloader to your phone. So be sure.
No sweat mate. Had something like that happen to me before.
Factory reset in CWM.

I'm going through a list of multiple stock roms and flashing each one - hopefully one will work
I originally installed sweet rom and then tried to flash back to stock - most likely I accidentally flashed something through ODIN

Always remember Hong Kong edition phone cannot install whole world others country Note 3 stock ROM due to they aren't friend.
The only solution for you now is install CWM for KitKat and later updates to Sweet ROM v7

Looks to me like you need a PIT file. What variant are you running?
We are using Odin 3.09 and the tar file as above.
I don't think you need a pit file , have you re tried the odin flash ?
I used the polish NB3 version (multi csc)
It works on my BTU N9005

The reason I ask is carrier roms generally have the "hidden" partition and it almost always screws up there...

Thanks for the reply. It works with th PIT file. There is no note on the download site so that's why I posted the links above as other people will experience the same problem as me.

[Q] Soft brick on Samsung S4 but cant write stock rom?

Hey guys,
I had succesfully rooted my device. a few weeks ago. because i wanted cyanogenmod rom on it i tried to flash CWM recovery menu.
now my device gives the following message:
firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again.
Now i tried to reflash the stock rom with odin.
i downloaded the stock rom for my area (i guess)
i also downloaded a europe .pit file (someone said that on a tutorial how to remove soft brick)
Tried flashing

Flashing EU ROM's are fine as I'm currently using the UK 4.4.2 ROM N9005XXUGNG1
Please HELP; as it seems I cant use 4G with this ROM
you cant flash older fw, NG1 is new dont downgrade to older
Both 4.4.2
Thanks for reply!
Yes I'm aware that you can't downgrade.
Both ROM'S are 4.4.2 it just always fail at the same point no matter what.
The only thing that is different is one ROM is branded and one isn't
The one I'm trying to flash is Vodafone.

N9005XXUGNG1 this was released in August
N9005XXUENE3 this was released in July
so I can't flash to a release that was a month old?
I thought that as long as the boot loader was the same version I could flash freely?

Not sure if they have the same bootloader version?
You can only check for the bootloader version after install it.

I'm not too sure, sorry. You have to check for the bootloader version.
Or you can also flash the modem (baseband) separately.

The problem is your original pit file. As you can see problem is related to hidden partition that is to small for the image from your room that you want to flash(is the place where of in is stopping and give you error). To solve this you need to flash a pit file compatible with the room that you want to flash. What exactly do you want to achieve flashing this room anyway? ..
---------- Post added at 06:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 PM ----------
If just LTD is your problem then check this:
<br />
Use ES File explorer or your favorite root explorer and go to data/property and find the persist.radio.lteon.xml file. Open it in Text Editor and if the value that is written is false, change it to true. Save and exit and reboot. Got the options back. Done.<br/>

Try flashing the G900F PIT file at the same time as the ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2721101&d=1399024091
Extract and add to the PIT section in ODIN 3.10.7
Flash both PIT and ROM at the same time
Thanks @*Detection*
i have the same problem.. u can solve this by extracting hidden file from firmware and rename its extension to hidden.img.tar and then flush this file using odin

Yep , i discovered that too.
"flush"
I decided to dig out my old Note 4 & use it as a satnav for the car. Had the same problem with it failing on hidden.img, so I extracted the hidden.img & added .tar at the end, restarted the phone into download mode, flashed it & all up & working great.
