Exynos vs snapdragon. Which one to buy - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am going to get the Note 3 in a few days. I like its hardware, the display, size and battery. But i hate touchwiz. So i will be installing cm11 asap. For this reason, is snapdragon model better than exynos? In India i can get exynos from anywhere but s800 is available only on ebay. Please advice what should I go for? Thanks in advance

one has 4G (SD800) other only has 3G(exynos) -- Depends what you want out of it tbh.

I need only 2g. But i need good custom rom support, especially cm. For that which one is better and by how much margin. I read that exynos source codes are never released.

This ^^ N9005 has the better support for custom ROMs.. However CM will by the looks of it have decent support on the N900 + the N9005

I had the Note 2 exynos version earlier. I had bad battery life on it after installing cm rom. Can the scenario be different on snapdragon viz a viz the battery life. I think the rom can be well customised only if hardware codes are not restricted.

It is possible yes, but @stanley08 has got crazy battery life on his exynos Note and I myself get very good battery on the Snapdragon model, it is mainly user dependant with battery. - a lot of people have issues on both variants.

i would suggest the N9005 as it seems to be the more future proof device since it comes with 4k Video recording & playback capability & i think games like GT Racing 2 runs a little better thanks to the Adreno 330.....compared to a friend who has the Exynos version..felt a little laggy to me...

T-Mo Galaxy S3 gimped; using MSM8260?!?!?

According to several news sources today, in response to questions regarding LTE compatibility, T-Mobile has stated that their GS3 uses an MSM8260 SOC rather than the MSM8960 everyone else is getting. For all intents and purposes, the MSM8260 is a Snapdragon S3. This is contrary to the A15-derived Snapdragon S4s (MSM8960) in all other US GS3 handsets.
If what I wrote above is true, then the T-Mo version of the GS3 is a gimped device - more like a refreshed and slightly larger GS2 with an HD AMOLED screen.
Since I'm a newb with less than 10 posts, I can't provide external links to my sources. However, Google "tmobile GS3 LTE MSM8260" and you'll see the CNET article I'm referring to.
I did read they decided not to use LTE on the GS3, I haven't heard anything about a diff processor though. This is CNET, not the most reliable source...
It does seem unlikely to use different SoC with the early hackers indicating that AT&T and T-Mobile are ROM-compatible, but I guess somebody will have to step in with some real proof.
I really hope I'm wrong with my previous assumption.
I forgot to ask, but could anyone with a T-MO GS3 post a screen shot of your processor specifications using a diagnostic application? I'm really curious to know whether or not the T-Mo handset is using an S3 or S4 SOC.
If it's an MSM8260 (S3), then I'll stick with the GS2 for now.
on android system info the board is listed as MSM8960. This info is taken directly from the phone itself. Also, Samsung and T-Mobile contradicted themselves in the article. T-Mobile spokesmen have been wrong before.

Thanks for the reply. I'm happy to know that I've been proven wrong in this matter.
It didn't make a whole lot of sense to me when I read that article - afterall, why would T-Mobile insist on using the SGSII SOC instead of the newer Krait SOC again in their flagship phone?
Edit: Just saw your screen shot. Thank you again.

Sorry about that. We were discussing the matter of LTE on the T-Mo forums when I noticed that the CNET article stated the SOC in use was an MSM8260. Thanks to this forum, that misinformation was quickly corrected.

GT-i9505 vs GT-i9305

Worth upgrading??
I think this SGS4 just an evolution and not a revolution. I know that the level of the camera we have great evolution ... and there are more 2s sensors ... but it worth the astronomical value of 799 €? ... otherwise we are talking about two phones with powerful Quad-cores with 2GB ram, communications with LTE and a design virtually identical ...
And then Portugal (as other European countries) will not have the Exynos version...very sad ...

I agree, mostly
I'm coming from an i9300, though
can't wait to buy the phone, but I'm getting it carrier locked to TMN which will be selling for 649€
I don't think it's worth upgrading tbh, the 9305 is good enough for now
maybe when the Note III comes out, yes

The S4 is definitely not a revolution. So I'm not sure an upgrade from the S4 is really worth it, unless you can easily afford the new one. There are many aspects improved on the S4, but no most-have in my opinion.

S3 uses a very dated GPU. Samsung had been using the Mali-400 since the S2 and it's horrible. I'm glad they stopped using it now. Power VR or Adreno 320 are much better. So yes. It's a very good upgrade.

The 5 reasons why I upgrade to the GT-I9505 are:
1. From 720p to 1080p!
2. From 4,7" to 5,0" inch!
3. From 8MP to 13MP!
4. Way better GPU!
5. Longer support from Samsung!

Why ask others? This is pretty simple...
1. It will have a much better screen quality.
2. It will be faster.
3. It will have a better camera.
4. It will have better battery life.
5. It will get updates faster. (plus all the new features it comes with)
Now, are you willing to spend the extra money to get those? That is the question.
Edit: Exynos, if community roms are important to you you probably want to stick to Qualcomm since it will have way better support.

get the "feel" of the phone man.
if benchmarks are to be believed, you should get exact ( or even similar) scores in benchmarks. benches are NOTHING. the octa core smokes Antutu, but even it has mild occasional lags.
I just use benches to show off my phone a little.
you got one hell of phone. now uninstall the useless benchmark apps and enjoy.

Your going to see a lot of variations with your score depending on the temp of your cpu. Our devices run hot and usually throttle under extended heavy loads. The KT kernel throttles at 70c, not sure about the stock kernel. My phone got 24,500 stock and actually sometimes scored lower after I OCed the cpu and gpu. Turns out the problem was throttling. After cheating at cooling my cpu down to 20c in the fridge I got a score of 27,000 :silly: obviously I don't keep my phone in the fridge all the time. The only time I run into throttling issues is when I'm benchmarking, I get the full 2.05ghz under normal use.
I'm a little confused, I have the SHV-E300S(octacore) version and my scores are 23000 - 24000. I think that this scores are a little bit low.
How can improve the scores?

I was thinking of keeping the Note 2 for a while but this is a game changer.
If it really has 3 gigs of ram, and the screen is larger without making the body much larger, especially making too much wider (I had some trouble with the original note...) I think I'll buy it Maybe... haha. I love my note 2 soooo much!

nope.
they are just assumptions.
note 3 will probably come out in september and there are 3 full months, samsung can change anything in that time.
the current assumptions are as follows-
5.99" screen probably 2xxx by 1xxx resolution
13mp camera
octa-core @ 2ghz or snap dragon 800 and @ 2+ ghz
3 gigs of ram.
that's all that has been most rumoured yet

Don't know mate, but to me it's not a huge upgrade! I mean if you look back, Note to Note 2 had 100% upgrade, so in that sense Note 3 should have 4 GB RAM.
Anyway, I'm quite happy with 2 GB so far, haven't seen any apps get closed or anything, yet.

The most interesting rumor I read was that of a 3x optical zoom on the camera. Don't forget, the note 2 was supposed to have a 13 mp camera originally but they couldn't get a good enough supply so stepped it down to match the s2's camera.
3 GB RAM is nice - but not particularly important for me. But what really intrigues me is the battery - hope they pack 4000mah battery now, that'd make me seriously tempted And since it's FHD it's likely to be pentile.
What really worries me though, is the thinner bezels making the OLED more prone to cracking - I mean I never thought anyone would report S4 having cracked OLEDs by just keeping it in pockets - having gorilla glass and all that. I really suspect this is due to thinner bezels.

Getting outstanding battery life on my g900a. Once someone figures out root for it and i get greenify working properly it should be even better.
Siting at 8H 25M 11S on Battery. AT&T S5. The thing that is killing my battery the most, Gear Fit Manager at a19% then Android at 16% and Screen at 14%. I have only charged 2 times so far since I bought the phone on Sunday, Ran it down to 9-10% yesterday but it took forever to charge. In over two hours of charge time it went from 10% to 37%. My iPhone 5 would have been 100% or close to it. Never had android phone before (really enjoying it) so not sure if this is normal or it will get faster the more charging cycles.
Thanks
