Hi,
my Nexus 7 (2013) is stuck on Google screen...
a few days ago I downloaded a lot of movies via utorrent, and utorrent kept crashing. So i forced stop, removed the app, reinstalled it from google play and continued.
My nexys then suddenly freezed for about 1-2mins before i shut it down via the power buttom, and since then it wont start...I've tried almost everything.
The device is stuck on Google screen. I've tried to boot it through the bootloader, recovery mode etc, but it's still stuck on the google screen. downloaded the nexus root toolkit to unlock my device, but it keeps tellin me i've to enable USB debugging. which I can't since my device won't start.
I've downloaded the SkipSoft Android tookit, but not too familiar with the tookit so haven't really tried anything yet (also not sure which android version i'm running)..
Is there ANYTHING i can do?
EDIT: tried using skipsoft android tookit to unlock bootloader, but when coming to the stage where i've to chose yes or no, the device get stuck and the power button does not respond => I can't chose Yes..
EDIT: So I've tried a few things but nothing seems to work..
downloaded a new adb+fastboot directory from another thread. Fastboot commands seems to work, but when i try and erase boot/cache etc the cmd does nothing...had this line for about 10min:
erasing 'boot'..
nothing happens.. when i unplug my device an error message shows (too many links).
so, fastboot won't erase my boot nor my cache, so i tried to fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img, and it says my bootloader is locked.
fastboot oem lock --> bootloader is alrdy locked
fastboot oem unlock --> stuck at "YES", just as i was when trying with different toolkits.
fastboot -w update image-razor --> Error, failed to load 'img-razor'
soo i'm getting kinda desperate here...
remeber, this was all from a stock rom, no root, no custom rom, just from a freeze when dl movies from utorrent...
i have been stuck like that before. get into to the bootloader screen from where its hung at the google splash screen. once there you can fastboot a factory image.
from the google screen:
1. hold volume up, volume down and power until you get to the screen with the android and its belly open
2. connect to pc
3. download factory image from HERE
4. unzip the tar file you just downloaded and place the contents in your platform-tools folder
5. double click the file named flash-all.bat
6. wait for it to finish and it should boot up just fine.

say what? Hold vol.up, vol.down and power until i get to bootloader?
when i press vol up, vold down, and power, holding them all in together from the google screen the device shuts down..
Do you have a youtube tutorial gudie or something?
EDIT:
Also, I've never rooted or done anythign with this tablet except downloading a few apps etc...this crash happened when downloading from utorrent...
The key combination is to be used from being powered off.

Yeah, and from what i can read it also needs an unlocked bootloader, which i don't have..
just keep holding the keys down. it will shut down. keep holding it will try to boot back up and take you to the bootloader screen. you do not need an unlocked boot loader. all my nexus devices have locked bootloaders, are rooted and run custom roms.

also, should add that i tried to unlock oem via the cmd, tried to flash boot.img but nothing..
when typing fastboot oem unlock, it got stuck at "Yes" when trying to unlock bootloader, and when typing flash boot, it said error, cannot flash boot.img..
AND i'm not running a custom rom, just the standard stock rom
one step at at a time. lets get you to the bootloader screen first. all good things happen from there.

Yes, I can access bootloader (fastboot mode).
tho i don't know which version i'm running..
it's either 4.4.2 (KOT49H) or 4.4 (KRT16S).
however, when running flash-all it says "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRfrjR9Y8fI&feature=youtu.be
dont worry about version. it does not matter. lets focus on your connection to the device. do you have ADB setup on your pc? if you dont, go to THIS thread and get minimal ADB & fatboot from shimp208. install it and run it.

I found a site with someone who bricked their phone but found a loop hole. I have never bricked my phone and hoping i never will but for those who have bricked their phone here are some steps to try to unbrick it! HOPE IT HELPS! SEND FEED BACK!!
So you can’t access bootloader or recovery and the only thing that works is the blue led trick when pressing trackball + power button??
Try the procedure below.
Step 1: Turned Phone off by taking out the battery.
Step 2: Prepared SD card
Put SD card in card reader and formatted it as FAT32, copied the DREAIMG.nbh onto it.
Or try Sapphimg.nbh
Step 3: Put SD card back in phone
Step 4: Hold Vol down + Power + track ball together and put battery to start phone
Step 5: Run update
IF THAT DIDNT WORK!
TRY THIS!
Step 1: Turning Off Your Phone
Because you have a bricked phone, you can't just hold the power button. So if your phone is not already off then you're going to want to take out the battery.
Step 2: Preparing Our SD card
Take out your SD card and put it into an SD card reader or some type of other adapter so that we can view it from our computer. If you cannot view the SD card on your computer then you're going to need a new SD card.
Download DREAIMG-RC29.zip and unzip the file.
Reformat the SD card to FAT32 and copy the DREAIMG.nbh onto it.
Safely eject the SD card.
Put the SD card into your device.
Step 3: Wipe The Phone
Hold home and press the power button.
When you see the image of an ! mark, open your keyboard and press Alt + L if you cannot see any command options.
Do a factory reset by pressing Alt + W or just using the trackball.
When the reset is done, go ahead and hold the camera button and select the reboot system now option with your trackball.
Step 4: Flashing The Phone
Once the grey screen pops up (or the white screen if your phone was rooted with JesusFreke) it will ask you to hit a button to start installing the image…press that button. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO STOP THIS PROCCESS. It will take about 8-12 minutes.
When the image has completed the installation (it will say completed), go ahead and press the green, red, and menu buttons at the same time. The phone will reboot.
And your done! Your phone is now unbricked!.
The G1 screen will hang there for a good minute or two, but be paticiant, it will boot. Now you have a choice. Try to hack your phone again, because you're in the correct state to have another go, or, you can stick with the official Android. Now if you choose to stick with the official Android, here's what you do.
Step 1: Upgrading to Android 1.0 RC33
Download the file signed-PLAT-RC33-from-RC30.zip
Rename the file to update.zip and copy it to your SD card
Reboot your phone into recovery mode. Power off the phone first and then hold down the Home key while powering it back on.
The recovery mode is finished loading when you see the ! mark inside the triangle. Press Alt + L to display the list of options.
Press Alt + S to flash the file update.zip.
Wait for the update to apply. Your phone may reboot during this process so be patient.
Press Home + Back if prompted to reboot your phone.
Step 2: Upgrading to Android 1.5 CRB43
Download the file signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.
Step 3: Upgrade to Android 1.5 CRC1
Download the file signed-kila-CRC1-from-CRB43-FIX.7ca4a1d7.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.
Step 4: Upgrade to Android 1.6 DRC83
Download the file signed-kila-DRC83-from-CRC1.c41b93c1.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.

run fastboot boot recovery-image.img or whatever you named your recovery image. It'll display "waiting for device..." message just keep pluging it in, unplugging, popping the battery and eventually your device will respond and boot into recovery.
Someone bricked and i did it... twice trying to flash the eng 2010 SPL. It worked the third time and my device is up and running again with an engineering SPL.
if your device is stuck on the first splash but displays in red "Fastboot USB" message in the upper left corner of the screen, DO NOT power it down. run the above mentioned command and reflash.

fastboot boot recovery?
boot.img and recovery.img are two totally different things.
The recovery (amon_ra is preferred)
The boot.img is where the kernel, ramdisk, etc resides.
you must've meant fastboot flash boot boot.img
or
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
but not both.

bricked Mytouch3g
Bricked mytouch3g -- brandnew phone. Just tried to flash cyanogen test3 and everything went fine but then I rebooted and all I have is vodafone boot screen, nothing else works but the blue led which will not load any img. adp doesn't work it never detects a phone no matter what you do. It was the first flash too. Crazy how HTC didn't make a built in hard reset like you have on windows mobile phones. You wonder if they want people to crash there phones so they have to replace them ect etc.

My phone has the same problem.
Anything that is needed done. But no no avail.

hey
i got my new nexus 7 and wanted to flash a new rom, so i just downloaded this and the flashing tool from this thread.
i didnt root/unlock bootloader or anything else, i just used the tool and did all the steps.
Boot into fastboot,
Wipe my Data,
Install Recovery + Kernel Ability
there were some more steps, but after this my nexus didnt do anything (maybe because of the missing root or the not unlocked bootloader or whatever?!)
it just was stuck in the mode with the android laying on the floor and giving error codes.
so i thought i softbricked it and googled some tutorials to restore a stock rom.
i foundthis and it seemed to work, but it was a bit outdated
i didnt get a .zip from the developers.google.com page, just a .tar, so i couldnt do
Code:
fastboot -w update image-nakasi-jro03d.zip
i just shut down the device then and thought it could maybe already work, because i updated/replaced the bootloader or something like this with
Code:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper-3.34.img
but after rebooting it just shows me a completly black screen with a white "Google" in the middle and an open lock on the bottom.
it isnt responding to anything im doing, like pressing on/volume-buttons or connecting usb
the computer cant dedect it via adb with
Code:
fastboot devices
....
what can i do now? do i have to wait, until the battery is dead? this can take days...
i know i did something really stupid
is there any way to restore my nexus 7?
please excuse my bad english and please help me
thank you very much
Hold Power and both volume buttons until it goes off, then power it on while holding both volume buttons. When you see the android, Open Fast boot or a Nexus 7 tool and flash a stock image. You can get them from the Google Dev site. Hope this helps.

don't know the exact steps, but i got it out of the APX mode and into the bootloader.
1. Tablet plugged into computer.
2. Held Volume Down + Volume Up + Power (simultatenously) for three seconds
3. And then released all, and pressed Power again.
4. Tablet booted into bootloader.
I thought that unlocking the bootloader ALWAYS voided the warranty, but in anycase I flashed reflashed ALL stock and locked the bootloader. Will be sending it to ASUS now. Thanks again!
EDIT:
So I wanted to verify that it was a CPU problem, and I downloaded StabilityTest again and ran the CPU load test. It crashed within two minutes, and went into AXP mode again. To get it out of AXP mode, the correct instructions:
1. Plug in the usb into computer
2. Hold Volume Down + Volume Up + Power simultaneously for like 15 seconds
3. The bootloader should show up.
4. If it doesn't, unplug the usb cable, and plug it back in and then repeat the these procedures.

Very helpful! I don't have a problem but I've read about others stuck in APX mode. This should be pinned if it works for those stuck in APX. Maybe you should change the thread title to something about APX solution so it draws some attention.

Well... being stuck in APX doesn't necessarily mean your hardbricked. (Corrupt or erased bootloader).
But being hardbricked DOES mean your device will default to APX mode.
To use a mathematical metaphor, one is a SUBSET of the other.
-------
bftb0 has posted an exhaustive list of Nexus 7 button press combos here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133986
... which includes how to pro-actively get into APX mode... although until somebody figures how to nvFlash the N7, APX is sort of redundant.

I'm sort of confused about the relationship between your edited post and what (apparently ?) kieso quoted, but I'll throw out a few suggestions:
1) AFAIK, there is no way to flash a dev ROM using fastboot (only the boot image of a dev ROM can be flashed this way). You said "bootloader", not "custom recovery" ... so that implies using fastboot. If that is not the case, then your use of terminology is not correct. (It's a computer - reporting details correctly is incredibly important).
2) If you bypass the WiFi login, an account can be added at any time later using the settings menu or simply by launching the Google Play (market) app - there is no need to "alter the apk of login", whatever that means.
3) I would recommend at this point that you start completely over by flashing a factory ROM using fastboot - see the sticky thread about returning to stock using fastboot. If you already have the 4.18 bootloader installed, I recommend you avoid like the plague any operation involving flashing the bootloader.
4) It should be obvious from the trouble that you got yourself into that you should learn what nandroid backups are and that you START USING THEM. The first thing you do after rooting is "make a backup", not "flash a ROM"
good luck
Thanq so much. But still some clarification needed
Now What do I do? My nexus 7 can't pass through at welcome screen saying saying unfortunately setup wizard has stopped. and in recovery{i have no custom recovery, I use bootloader 4.18} i cant flash any rom. I just want to start device any how.. any way.. Is there any way??

I guess I am having trouble understanding the sum total of information you have provided - I guess you have omitted some information or mis-stated something. No custom recovery sort of implies a full stock device, but yet you previously mentioned modifying/changing an .apk in /system... normally that would be possible only with a rooted ROM or a custom recovery to do that.
If your tablet is 100% stock, a factory reset of the tablet should allow you to boot once again - at the cost of deleting everything you put on the device, including all files you put on the (pseudo-) SD card.
If that is the case:
- press and hold power+vol-down until the bootloader screen shows up
- use vol-up/vol-down to select "start recovery" and press the power button
- an android lying on it's back should show up; this is the stock recovery splash screen, so
- press power+vol-up simultaneously for about one second - the stock recovery menu should show up
- select factory reset (with vol-up/vol-down) and press the power button.
good luck

Then unbrick the phone by going fastboot mode
Type "fastboot oem lock (or locker)"
*Then shut off the phone.
*Then do a factory reset by the same combination you do when going to recovery.
*after that try going fastboot again and unlock the oem

Then you should be able to go to recovery.
BE AWARE : your phone my be wiped so make sure you backup.

I'm a moron. Can I ask for really stupid steps here because I'm kind of nervous about making this worse.
1. I was able to oem lock and unlock, however I still can't get past the LG screen. I can get to fastboot, nothing more
2. I'm sure everything is wiped, I'll worry about later, I just want to be able to get to recovery and nothing is registering at all
3. ADB reboot recovery isn't working at all I get error: device '(null)' not found
Currently, I'm sitting with the device plugged into my computer on fastboot mode displayed on the screen with the command "use fastboot reboot" if the fastboot is available.
fastboot devices shows the following:
LGH918ad448f8 fastboot
Is there a way to get to recovery from fastboot?
ugh, this is so frustrating. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Make sure to do this after locking oem and before unlocking oem.

Alright you can theoretically flash the recovery twrp.img through fast boot, after you reflash the recovery you can go recovery from there.
I think typing fastboot reboot recovery
Check online. I'm not sure exactly.

I'm taking the battery out.
reinserting the battery
Pressing the power and volume up button and releasing for a second and reholding what do I release and rehold? I am trying to hold the volume up while releasing and reholding the power but I just get the same LG screen and no recovery
Ugh, i"m so sorry for asking for so much help.

After you do that button combinations it's going to ask you if you want to wipe or factory reset etc, you choose YES twice!. If you flashed recovery before then it'll take you over there after the choosing yes (it's not really gonna do anything just suppose to take you to recovery)
Edit: Okay let me be clear. When you lock the oem you should do the buttons combination. If you do them successfully then it should take you to a white screen. Asking you about confirmation twice. Then it will wipe and factory reset.
Now when you already have oem unlocked, you do the same procedure and which will take you to white screen then you choose YES twice then it'll take you to recovery (if you have successfully flashed it before)

Lol, btw it's volume DOWN not volume up.
So don't even lock the oem, try doing the combination properly now
Edit: so if it still doesn't work then try flashing twrp.img through fastboot there is a command I just don't remember. Make sure you have the .img twrp file locally so you can flash it.

i did choose yes twice, but when exactly did I flash recovery at this point? You write "IF you flashed recovery" I had recovery on here already but can't get to it
at this point, all I can do is see fastboot if I plug the phone into a cable, put the battery in and hold the volume down button down otherwise, I can't get to anything else but fastboot.
I'm at the fastboot mode
I downloaded the latest recovery twrp-3.0.2-1-h918.img (renamed to image.img), I'm trying the following command to push and flash recovery through bootloader but I get the following error
message:
fastboot flash image.img and I see the following error message:
cannot determine image filename for 'image.img'
What am i doing wrong?
ugh, I'm really sorry for asking so many dumb questions

The proper command is;
Fasboot flash recovery image.img
And make sure the twrp file is stored locally from where you started the command prompt.
If it worked and flashed then try: Fasboot reboot recovery
To go to recovery.
I was able to run the following command from fastboot (looked it up):
fastboot flash recovery image.img
I see the following error message:
target reported max download size of 5368...
sending 'recovery' (24092 KB)
OKAY [0.578s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 0.598s
So, should I try the volume down and power button again?

Ugh, thank you so much for your patience. I did the following:
battery pull
power on, volume down
LG logo finger off for one second on the power button, kept volume down
rebooted into recovery, I'm flashing NATF ROM now
thank you so much I hope this works, all the data and stuff can be recovered, didn't/wouldn't lose much, all backed up. It's installing now.
i sure hope this works
YES, I SEE THE ANDROID boot screen. This thing takes a while to get past but at least it means I'm on the right track.
I thank you a lot brother.

I hit this issue on my h910 I extracted the boot image from the ROM flashed it in fastboot after that I was able to access recovery
Sent from my LG-H910 using Tapatalk
I'm sitting here doing nothing waiting for all the apps to reinstall. What a waste of a day. I didn't reinstall Magick, never really used it. Not sure what happened, but at least it wasn't fatal.

Yea, happens. Just to be sure. Make sure you keep twrp and supersu stored on SD just in case. And always backup [emoji14]
Thank you

I do a daily backup at about 3am to my SD card. Thought about restoring from it, but then realized this is an opportunity to start all over which is something I was leery to do because I didn't want to set the phone up again. Yet, I'm doing it now to see what was causing the awful battery drain.
Have searched the forum but came up empty.
Hoping someone can help.
Purchased the phone used back in December and have been using it as-is. Two OTA updates came through fine. The latest OTA update has it stuck in a boot loop.
- I can get to fastboot with power and volume down buttons but all of the options either turn it off or stick it back in the loop again (Essential logo with powered by Android, NO dot animation)
- Can't see it via "adb devices" since developer mode was likely not enabled
- "fastboot devices" can see the phone but can't change slots or do anything else
I saw two other people who've posted something similar but no solution. Is my phone garbage?
Any help is appreciated.

Damn, that's a bit unlucky, this March update said it would make recovery from a loop after OTA update easier to recover from, which might just have helped you. Sorry not sure how to help fix at present.
you can try flashing one of these https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/development/stock-7-1-1-nmj20d-t3701681
be sure to pick one with the fastboot images

A couple of questions:
- Is your BL unlocked (or is OEM Unlocking enabled)?
What happens if you try executing "fastboot flashing unlock"? NOTE: this would WIPE your data if successful.
- Can you get to the Recovery mode? It's when you pick "Recovery" option from fastboot mode, see the lying android with an exclamation sign, then hold Power and press VolumeUp to get to the Recovery menu.

Thanks for your response.
- I dont belive OEM unlocking is enabled.
- I can get to the fastboot menu, but the recovery mode option just takes me back to the 'powered by android' logo, not the green dead robot.
- When I try fastboot flashing unlock, I get the below error:
=============
FAILED (remote: Flashing Unlock is not allowed
)
finished. total time: 0.013s

Will this work even though I cannot see the device via adb? AND the device state is "locked".

Dang... :\ Yeah, the last error means you don't have OEM unlock enabled. So, you can't flash the bts image via fastboot. One last thing I could think of is trying to get to recovery by the button combo. Although, if you are correct in saying you don't have USB debug enabled, it won't do much good, i.e. you won't be able to flash an OTA... :\
While device is OFF, press and hold Volume-Up button while pushing Power button to boot.
Your device will now be in Recovery mode. An Android logo with red exclamation mark should appear on screen. Hold the Power button, then press the Volume-Up button one time to see the recovery menu.
can you try this command on bootloader:
fastboot OEM unlock
