Giving back my Xperia Play to willing developer! - Xperia Play General

Ok so a very interesting thing has happened...
I am giving back two of the phones donated to me:
Xperia Play
Xperia S
now two of my old friends @Achotjan (know him from the X10 days) & @nickholtus (know him from the Arc/Play days) are both interested in these devices...
both are very good devs and have worked on challenging projects in the past and still continue to support devices...
now here is the best part.. both are happy and willing to work on these devices have agreed to swap the devices once they are done with their projects!
thats means with the single device you guys donated to me you will now have 3 devs working on it (initially I worked on them and now these two will take it over from here)...
i just want one promise from you guys @Achotjan & @nickholtus) that both of you will continue to develop for these devices and exchange them mutually!
i personally think this is a really good thing...
if anyone has any objection do let me know.. if everyone is cool with it, i will make arrangements to ship the device to these devs...
i really hope this will boost development for these devices

firstly happy new year!!!
in continuation of the above, I have just sent the devices (Xperia S & Play) to the devs via DHL... @nickholtus will be receiving both devices for now and he will send the Xperia S to @Achotjan at the earliest!
I just wanted to make somethings clear... I am not greedy... I don't do this (android development) for the donations... I do it cause I love these phones and want to make sure that people get good stuff... If I was free I could have developed for ALL of these device, but because of personal commitments I cannot...
I really hope that you guys get the best development going and this device forum is again flourishing with development activity...
will keep you posted on when the device reaches @nickholtus

Hey guys I know that I havent been around much, been busy with **** loads of stuff..
I had already stopped development on the Play after some issues with some devs here...
anyways, i was recently approached by @nickholtus asking me if i can give my Xperia Play to him for development as he wanted to work on it but didnt have working device...
since the community donated this device to me, I am willing to return it back to the community!
so if you guys can find a willing trusted developer who will work on this device let me know and I will arrange for the device to be sent to him/her..
@nickholtus has already shown interest for the Play.. anyone else you guys considering?
do let me know what you guys think!
i will miss my Xperia Play

DooMLoRD

Hi,
I am very interested yes, as i am already working On the 3.4 kernel, but without a play it is very hard.
So if you guys agree...

I am interested in it,between i don't have any android right now so would be good to start on something new.

I have two Plays, but I would be willing to give out my Verizon one if a dev is going to work on anything 3.4 kernel or 4.2 - 4.4 related for it, even though it'll be a long shot. It's not tip top shape with older battery, but fully functional.
I simply have been neglicting my Plays since I haven't have time to game much lately.

wow.. that's nice to hear from all you guys.. 2 Xplays for Donation Available.. Al the Devs in the house.. Back to work guys...

before anyone (including me) can make any chance of getting this device, the comminity needs to agree.
as many of you know, I am already working on the 3.4 kernel, and it would be a lot better if i had the device. So it would be great if you guys agree with it

I agree with these devs
1- @nobodyAtall: if he is still intrested in developing 3.4 kernel with zeus board
2- @nickholtus: a great dev from the first days of xperia play. You made first cm10 for us and we cant forget you
3- @Achotjan: as i know he needs a xperia 2011 device but im not sure he is intrested in developing 3.4 kernel too
4- im sure this person wont develope anything for xperia play anymore but i think doomlord himself is the best person but sadly he leaved us because of someone that stoled his sources and ...

+1 for nickholtus, was amazing at old times

hi, first of all nice to see you again my old friend, i sended a message via google talk , and yes i am interested
and as mentioned on msg i has sent, after fixing hardware releated thinks on kernel and rom (camera gamepad etc...) will send it back too you or if you will permit to another dev who will need it
cheers
Achotjan

@nickholtus as i has say to DoomLord i am interested too, however if the problem you want to resolve is importent you could take it, and we could colaborate as i need to work on play for working 3.4 kernel 4.4 rom and my SDE (curent 4.1.2) then 4.4 and play need somme of work on camera gamepad and buttons are not being working without extra hacks
or same think if you could wait i can take it and after fixing atleast SDE compatibility for play , send it to you, any of this two solutions arre ok for me, but i am insisting on working together on kernel and camera thinks to fix the more quicly and better
cheers

btw has anybody experienced a more responsive X10 after flashing with the dual touch files? My xperia has zero lag now and touch screen is extremely responsive.(with 2 screen protectors on too)
How many of you clicked the "Donate" button besides thanking? I think thats a better way to show our appreciation.
THNKZ
Thnkz Dev for making this device as it should have been ... SE should just hire them and SE should thnks these Devs bc they almost lost me as a customer bc i almost sold my phone ...
My first post hi all, i been following xda forums for a while now and i would also like to thank all the devs for their work. They have acheived more for the X10 than se ever will.
I would also like to thank all forum members for the advice to other users and for beta testing these roms, without beta testing development would be alot slower.
Z's freex10 2.2 beta 4 runs flawless on my x10 for 2 days. No FC, runs super fast, every app i used pre 2.2 still works fine, battery seems fine (after battery wipe stats).....i mean for 8 hours i was asleep i lost 3% battery (will test today with heavy use.
Anyway enough of my rambling....
Big up to all XDA devs and forum members...

Happen to have Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, how do I dump the rom out of this?

Hi,
This was originally posted to Android Dev General and someone stated i should put this here as well.
As stated in the title I've got a SE Xperia Arc here. It's obvious you guys want the software on this thing. I can dump it, if someone can provide instructions. I am familiar with ADB, command line usage etc.
This has to be quick as I have to bring this baby back tommorow
Well, first of all, its a prototype, which means it's useless to flash onto retail devices. Second of all, you're bound to make someone lose their job Decisions decisions...

How is the Phone?
copy everything in your internal storage(/system etc.) of arc to your computer
would it not have had the drivers in the source though that may have been portable over to the X10 2.3.2 J&Z implementation
Yeah managed to adb pull the system.
Sorry about stating you guys could have the sofware, it's my job at stake if I'd share with you guys I'll see if I can cook something up with this.
The phone's fine, much better than X10i. It's the best SE & Android combo I've used. The new UI really looks cool and is smooth as silk. Build quality isn't that great, too much plastic for my taste. This one packs Android 2.3.2 and is atleast as fast as my Nexus S running stock. An excellent upgrade from X1. I'd love to give you guys some in-depth review with photos but unfortunately I'm in bit of a rush.

i don't have it the OP does not want to share the ROM because he would risk his job. Totally reasonable imo.
But if it is true, i think we could be able to port arc's applications into this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911364
Correct me if i'm wrong
Don't know if devs would be able to port or not, but why not wait for next month when phone's launched instead of asking the man to risk his job for something we could be getting in a month's time?
Best thing that you can do is dump the system. You can do this by issuing this command:
adb pull /system
once the device is USB Debugging Mode. This will really give us something to work with.
I would imagine that this would only be possible by using the kernel of 2.1 (the way that devs been using to port 2.2 and 2.3) as I don't think that SE would sign the certificate of arc with the same signature they signed the x10 so the only benefit of this is to get hold of SE add ons compared to 2.3 that j already ported
I would like to join the developers team at some point as I might have something to add, but I need to finish school in May as having 6 courses keeps my hands full...until then good luck to these guys for their impressive job and specially their dedication

I think so, thats why Sony has such a good bootloader protection. They want you to buy the new one instead of pimping your X10. In the end Sony wil fail this, I'ts a mather of time. It does keep the noobs away.

Lets buy doomlord a play while they are going cheap!!

Guys as you know doomlord is the only kernel dev we have, and he does a great job even though he does not have an xperia play!
Without the device it makes debuggin kernels hard, most of the time he has to do it remotely using teamviewer. Doom is working on nearly 10 diffrent kernels for diffrent devices, This is very time consuming and i feel soon he might stop play kernel development as he is already thinking about stopping support for the x10 mini/pro as he does not have a device.
Doom said recently:

yes thats true..

BTW... i dont know how many of u will be willing for this but i came across an awesome offer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298796
basically unlocked Xperia Play is for 280USD
http://www.expansys-usa.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-unlocked-209428/
in India (where i live) Xperia Play is for 23K to 25K INR [ref: http://bit.ly/nWzI3g ] which is almost 450USD to 500USD...
if u guys are interested and willing u can contribute to donate a device to me... i only have ARC so i can focus only on that device currently... as of now, i will try my best to keep Xperia Play kernel updated (atleast for stock firmware)... since Xperia Play uses a different board (zeus) which is totally diff from the other xperia 2011 phones (they use mogami board) it becomes tricky to work with the device (atleast kernel wise for me since i dont have a testing device in hand)... thats one of the reasons why USB-OTG is not fully working on Xperia Play...
anyways if u guys want more support from me (may be work on CM7 kernel for Xperia Play) then things can move faster if i have device in hand
my friend will be coming from US in few weeks time (may be a month or two) [ and he is getting my new HTC Flyer along ]...
even if this doesnt work out no problems
but i wanted to know what does the Xperia Play community think abt this..
do let me know...

280 usd is not alot for us to raise to give doom some incentive to continue play support!
I will donate $20 now and a bit more later on if need be, doom has said if he had a play he will not only work on kernels but even more development projects. We all know doom could easly bring us the first ICS port, and also check out this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278318. What about one of those o2 phones selling for fifteen tenners? probably buying it, sending it to him and unlocking the phone will be cheaper.

I might do it anyway

hi thanks for this... but i want to correct u on a few things...
as of now i only work on kernels... the bootmanager might work but at this point since we cant flash kernels thru recovery (for xperia 2011 devices) it might not be really useful... as for dualboot, its possible as long as the the kernel requirements are same... only changes in ramdisk can be handled but if the "dual booted" rom requires another kernel then its a issue... also i dont know much abt ROM related work but can hopefully get some help from others

Any kernel devs out there?

OK so it looks like we have no more kernel devs as of now. (Wedgess is busy and wont be updating the play I think). So I just wanted to ask if there was anyone left working on the xperia play who knows how the make kernels compile/decompile and edit. I'm going to start using the kitchen tool and some other tools from around xda. Already got kitchen set up. But I'm just going to mess around with editing some jb kernels since I'm stuck on that to see what I can do. So if there's anyone else with experience just wanted to know in case I had some questions or if they could help out. This is sort of a question but I thought general would fit it better

Yes we need a new kernel , i think we need an improved turbo kernel and xperia play will be fine!, Just fix bugs in GB and ICS in Turbo + maby make auto detection of multiboot or make them multiboot automatically and etc... and lots of performance tweaks and then The Xperia Play will be perfect!

Yes that would be great but the problem is finding someone that knows how to do it or can help an inexperienced person do it. I would rather add multi boot to lupus v13 because for some reason its the only kernel that works on my phone. Whatever wedgess changed between v8 and 9 I need to know so I can do the same for other kernels because whatever it is its the reason it works for me. The problem is the change log is too large for me to figure out

But I'm just going to mess around with editing some jb kernels since I'm stuck on that to see what I can do. So if there's anyone else with experience just wanted to know in case I had some questions or if they could help out. This is sort of a question but I thought general would fit it better

Good luck!
From the look of some posts on this thread, if I were Wedgess or Doom I would take some offence to the way people are reacting here...
For starters, Doom hasn't given up on the play and there are multiple people including him who are trying to port the 3.6 (I think) Kernel to the play which will open many doors in to performance and other additions to our device.
@wedgess has made fantastic Kernels for our device with every version of Android available to us - I fail to see why a new Kernel would be required? Especially when development is underway to port the new Kernel to our devices.
@DooMLoRD has also been working on our device for years, not to mention all the other devices he works with. He is also the reason most of the other Kernel developers have been able to make their Kernels for the Play as most of their work is based on Doom's. You should all cut him some slack! He said he would be working on porting the new Kernel, and I have no reason to believe he wont be able to achieve this. People just need to be more patient, things like these take time.
On another note, it's great that you want to try your hand at Kernel Development abdel12345 - I personally have only done minor tweaks myself. If you manage to get into it a fair bit, perhaps you'll be able to help Doom and the others with porting the new Kernel. There's a thread on it somewhere in the development section - unfortunately at the moment I don't think they are able to get it to compile though.
I'm sorry I didn't mean any. Offence to anyone I was just wondering if there was anyone else because I know wedgess it'd very busy and doom as well since they both work on lots of other devices. I just wanted to. Try and see if anyone else would be able to help a little or give it a shot. Again I'm sorry u didn't mean to offend anyone

My post wasn't directed at you - No worries.
My aim wasn't to seem 'aggressive', but more to make people aware of the current situation which is that things are in place and work is being done. It'll just take time before we get any positive results.
Personally, I've come to terms with the fact that this device is now miles past its expiration date so I'm not holding out for any sort of improvement no matter what the outcome.
@spizzy: no, the mogami board devs are porting the 3.4 kernel, for now only the smultron is at a really good point (the 3.0.8 kernel also is stable for every mogami device and the anzu, only for play/phoenix we haven't so much work done)
@all: the kernel development guys isn't dead, is only rally slow, cause doom and FXP has a LOT of device, and wedgess as he already said is working on the s3's pac; also, it is completaly useless to wake up a day and think "oh, why we don't open a new thread to see if there is someone that now how to develop a kernel?", think a moment, if someone that know a lot of kernel development and have the time to work on it (and also the intenctions to work on it), why he hasn't already started to do something (at least a development thread)?

I wasn't looking for someone who was a pro at making kernels. I was looking for people with little experience that would like to attempt messing with making/editing a kernel just to make some simple changes so that when I attempt it there will be others who can discuss it. No need for sarcastic comments but I guess the title is misleading sorry.

Nobody has said anything offensive towards the devs who have worked on the PLAY in the past. This was a friendly conversation about the OP possibly learning to tweak kernels. You are blowing things way out of proportion...for whatever reason.

We don't really have time. Every new game that is released, we are holding our breath hoping that it will run on our phones. Tweaks we have made in the past have gotten us a long way, but now we are running up against a brick wall, and we need help soon.
If someone want's to make a thread about taking action and learning to tweak the kernel on our phones, it would be great if you didn't post in it being negative. You're not helping any of us by doing that.

I've finished my introductory course of Python(not relevant, I know), and am 2 weeks into my schooling for that, through a private instructor at the company I work for. What I find exciting though is that my instructor speaks openly about the similarities between dalvik and java, and the way kernels process and execute bytecode. I'm on my way to understanding how it all works, but I have to stay focused on what my employer want's me to learn, for now

[DONATION all Xperia 2011] Somc Debrand Engine Project

*** DONATION Somc/Semc Debrand Engine ***
Hi to you all....
Here am back with the Donation thread for @Achotjan
Our developer Achotjan is leaving XDA because (and its true) his work wasent appreciated
Hi, Guys i have a sad news, i will stop all works and definitely leave Xda ....
i have some serious problems with my device and i dont get any support for the works i am doing.
specially from 2011+ community lines of xperia, all work of SDE that i am doing, i am doing them on the x10 then port to 2011 line of xperias
but now my x10 is going crazy and will not take long to die, and the only device that i have in hand is the x10, the website is closed cause it reached the 1 year and it was purchased for 1 year, i am not able to purchase the domain again
i will release last update of 4.1.2 with SuperStamina support and leave
it was a pleasure to work for this device and thanks to everyone that helped, supported, or thanked me when i was working
sincerely
Achotjan, owner of Crappy Semc Debrand Engine

... He developed for our Xpera 2011 line and it was really small support but there was many download of his work
Thas is not ok to the Developer !!
I think Somc Debrand Engine is most aboitious project on whole XDA.. Sony dropped support to Xperia 2011 and FXP too but Achotjan Didnt!
He brought to us Gignerbread based on Xperia S, ICS based on Xperia S, JB based on 4.1.2 Xperia T... and who know what could be next but it need our help!
So i am asking you all who are using SDE and know what SDE is really about please lets try to make one person who didint give up on us happy and donate to Somc Debrand Engine Project so our developer @Achotjan can buy him selfe a dev phone (Xperia Arc/S)
If we can find 10 - 15 persons who are willing to give or donate 10 - 15 € and wi would have the phone in no time
I have found online an Xperia Arc four 90 - 120$ in perfect condition son only 100$ (not much)
I sead that i will donate every week 10€ to SDE
If you are with me please comment, donate and wee can be really an admirable Xperia 2011 community

Hi, xperia play problem is releated to the fact that i need to do somme special works about the camera the keys for playing etc... and as i havent the device its dificult and taking a lot of time.
however saying unsupporteddosent mean that ther will be no release for xperia Play, the ICS rom was abandonned for alll devices not only Play the cause was my pc's HDD and the fact that i lost all my work .
now as i Succesfully maked the SuperStamina to work on SDE i will need to do a kernel for all device on wich i will release the 4.1.2 SDE (if i continue the work of caurse) that mean i can tweakit to use more system place to have succesfully runing SDE on xperia Play
the reason i am leaving is that my last device is almost dead so i will not have any device on wich i can work
if the donnation process work, and i was ableto get a 2011 device of caurse i will make aversion for xperia Play, but hardware releated stufs are not supported but that could be fixed by any other moder or developer who have the device so its not somethink critical
cheers

Hi, I can donate to you a Xperia Play.. But it has the LCD broken and also you have to replace the flex cable, ALS chip and is missing the power button. If you want it I will donate it for you. But you will need to repair it of course.

Sorry for such stupid question, does the 2011 line includes play?
And also, there's a 400mb system kernel for neo l ics, so the partition method should work on jb too

So, if @Achotjan receives enough donations to buy a mogami phone, he will continue work on SJB)? Based on 4.1 or 4.2,...?
I donated a small amount ($2) a few weeks ago [PayPal transaction ID: 96583266D8261091T], so you can add that to the counter @MarioJerkovic. I'll see if I can top up my PayPal account, if we get anywhere near $50 I'll certainly add another $10.
