I have a spam of "cell broadcast" messages from all the locations I've been/traveled too on my phone each time after restart/zoning into a new location in my country.
Any idea what those are and how to disable them?
Thank you.

answering my own question - it's a separate application "Cell Broadcast" - you can turn it off in the app, it's not an option in the phone/system settings.

Sorry, mates, that may be a rather silly question, but I couldn't find anything...
On my NOKIA I always had the location / area in my display. Jow do I get my XDA II to do that? Is there any setting or key combination that would enable it?
Yes,there is,but it is not functional how on Nokia phones because you will contiunue to receive messages on xda with your cell-location.
To enable Cell-location or other services on your operator go to:
Start-Settigns-Phone-More,Enable Broadcast channel,Settings-New,Channel number 050.
Enjoy.
Regards
Hehe, very funny, mate. Yep I do receive a notification every 30 or so seconds... Best part is that is tells me first my suburb, next time the suburb east, then mine again and then the one south  while I just sitting here at my desk
OK, after the good laughter - is there not something as I used to have it on my mobile phone :?:

Maybe this doesnt work with O2 in the UK. I recieve no information.
Is there a list of the channel numbers and their functions?
normally it is channel 50, but upto know it will provide too many messages instead of traditional bar view.
Is there an option within the phone settings to extend how long the phone rings for before it goes through to voicemail?
I have looked everywhere and cant seem to find it. I'm on Vodafone by the way
No there isn't. I believe this is a setting from the provider which cannot be changed.
You can change the time when the ring is forwarded to your mailbox.
Check the following settings:
settings, Phone , Services, call forwarding, retrieve settings
(guessed the english names because using a German Rom)
Einstellungen, Telefon, Dienste, Rufumleitung, Einstellungen abrufen
Sorry, never seen those settings. I couldn't change them though but this could be because of a temporary poor connection.

Cheers Hogar,
It was exactly where you said it would be.
Sorry for the post in Software and applications, it should have been in General chat.

It's a function of the network rather than your phone. 30seconds is the longest you can have
Everytime I get a call the phone says the name of the person calling like a talking caller id. Even when I get a text message same thing. I may be dumb but I can't find where to turn this feauture off. Anyone can point me in the right direction on how to turn this off thank you.
Maybe Settings - Accessibility - TalkBack ?

This worked but i also had to click the option Always use my settings and that fixed it. Thank you
Hi all, I had a GS4 before I got the G2, before going to sleep I used to turn on the blocking mode & I had set it up so that the phone would still ring if someone called me but there would be no notifications & the notification light would be disabled. The quite mode on the G2 in comparison when activated disables all ringtones & notifications (basically putting the phone in silent mode with a whitelist for phones numbers) & I will have to manually allow a list of phone numbers which can still ring through. This does not work for me because I receive important calls from various different numbers & i just want the notification blocking.
Can someone please advise me how to accomplish this.
Thanks
Not sure yet but I think if you uncheck the "block incoming calls" option it disables the whitelist and allows all calls to come through. If so, the whitelist is a nice additional feature for those who want to micro manage things further while not a requirement.

Thanks a lot for your reply but unchecking "block incoming calls" does not allow any calls to come through which is kind of strange!!

Yep I am seeing the same thing as you. Kind of makes me wonder why that checkbox even exists then. Possibly a coding error? There really should be a way to allow all calls. There's an option to select all contacts but I see where you are coming from...an important call could still come from a number not currently listed in contacts.
Also, I'm not seeing an option to disable the persistent quiet mode notification in the notification bar. I don't particularly want to be advised that its going into quiet mode tonight at 11am this morning.

bump!
Hey folks,
I've got a question regarding a ROM I can't find the answer to anywhere searching.
It's quite simple really -
In CM12.1 - 13 under Privacy i can set my phone to block calls and messages from numbers not in my phone book. TW ROMs can block calls and messages but only from registered numbers or "Unknown" callers meaning that the number had to have been withheld by who was calling.
I get a lot of marketing calls and as a result the features to block all calls and messages from numbers not in my phone book is hugely valuable to me however I prefer TW ROMs mainly because of the camera which is use a lot. I'm currently on AOKP 6.0.1.
Anyone got any recommendations or ideas? Is there something I can do to a TW rom to add this functionality?
Can't see any way to do that in stock TW, but as a workaround, you could set "Do not disturb" to be permanently enabled, and set "All contacts" to be priority so they can always get through, meaning all other calls/texts will be permanently muted, not blocked, but...
