Hi,
My house is Wi-fi enabled (i.e. we have a wifi-router connected to our broadband) and I can surf the internet from my M3100. I do not have a wifi-card for my PC, and was wondering if there is a way to use my phone as a bridge? E.g. I'd like to connect my phone to my PC via the USB cable, and connect my phone to the internet via wi-fi with the net result of being able to access the internet from my PC.
Firstly, is this possible? Secondly if it is possible with wmodem then I appear to have a problem, for when I run wmodem (with active sync closed/disabled), then connect the USB cable to my PC, I do not get the 'found new hardware' box, and I can't get the USB modem driver to install (trying to manually add new hardware and browse to the .inf file does not work - it doesn't seem to see any driver in the inf). I'm using windows XP.
Any help you can offer will be appreciated,
Steve

I upgraded my rom with shaps's 3.54b. I can connect to internet with phone, but it is impossible with usb cable to use it as modem.
When I try to use internet sharing it disconnect active sync and try to connect to 3g network. Sometime it can connect, but the pc cannot recognized the connection working. Any other times it cannot connect at all.
Looking for in system option on my pc i saw my phone as network device (windows mobile based device) and not like usb modem. Is it normal? Reading in other forum someone suggest me to install usb modem driver... where can i download the right driver?
Thanks
try resetting your phone before you connect it. Sometimes like you it'll connect but sometimes for me my phone says check usb connection. But i reset the phone and it works fine.
is there someway i can plug my phone via usb into a computer and use the computers internet connection on the phone?
I believe that the far left icon is meant to be the data? then phone, then sound?
If i plug my phone in by usb all i get is a USB symbol.
I believe that im meant to get some sort of 2 arrows?
You'll be able to get the internet from pc on wi-fi connection to.
Here in my notebook I've shared the ADSL internet with wireless connection and I'm using the local web between my notebook and HTC to get the internet connection. It works perfectly!
when ever connected to activesync or the vista sync
the phone have full access to the network of the pc
unless you disabled it
Can somebody guide as to how to access the internet in PC. After connecting the usb cable between the device and CPU, I selected the PC Internet access option - but nothing happens.
After this when I went and clicked open the browser it still cant detect any internet. Are there any other settings that needs to be changed to make it work?
I tried this in my office PC (in LAN network) as well but one thing strangely happened - after enabling 'PC internet access' in the device I seem to loose internet in the PC itself and also my outlook cannot access the internet or sync with server. I checked this twice - thrice same reaction in the office PC.
This is very strange as this needs to be easy as a click for basic users or they will get fed up of this kind of behaviour. This feature so useful since we dont have to drain the battery while at work or on our laptops so atleast synching part happens while connected thru the cable and also it charges the battery.
Maybe I did not know what to do!!?
This option is for using your SGSs internet in your PC, not the other way. No android phone can use PCs internet via usb cable (like standard WM feature).

Click to collapse
I think you are referring to the feature called 'tethering' using Kies which makes your device a WAP for many other devices to get internet. I am sure there is a way of getting the internet in the device from the PC.
As far as I know, not via USB cable.
@sany , did you resolve that issue? is it possible to get internet on the device through usb cable connection?
Hello,
I don't know if its just my phone, but the usb connection with my PC is very slow. I know it's not mass storage connection but what the hell, it takes ages just to load up thumbnails in the galery folder when I access it thru my PC.
BTW. Its not like the connection is slow, its like if the connection has a very high "ping". Just accessing folder is very slow, but when you finally manage to select something and copy it, it's fast.
Is the connection via USB to PC fast with your phone?
Thanks
No one? Is it just me?
