Hey guys I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask for help. I'm trying to boot into recovery and it's not working. I'm using a Lg G2 (Sprint). I was running Unofficial CM 10.2 and had a twrp recovery (2.6.3.3). I tried to flash PA 4.0-Alpha-201312050-ls980 with pa_gapps-modular-full-4.4.2-20131215. I'm not sure what went wrong and why I can't boot into recovery. Any information would be greatly appreciated, not sure if this is the right place to ask for help, thank you for your time. For some reason I can't find the thread now... God I'm an idiot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try getting into download mode volume up and plug into computer
Or
Press and hold power and volume down until the LG logo, let go, then press and hold again for recovery

I couldn't get into recovery. I can get into download mode. It says Firmware Update Do not unplug. Stuck at 0%.
Please tell me I am not screwed... I have no idea what happened to my recovery. I figured if anything happened like this I could always boot into recovery and restore to stock. I'm honestly about to freak out...

Hey I'm having a little trouble installing the drivers, it says there's a more up to date version already installed. I went to device manager and found my device, clicked properties and uninstalled the drivers. However when I try to install the ones in the guide you linked it still says they are there. Any clue how to remove them?
device manager, right click phone, update drivers, browse computer, let me pick from a list, unclick show compatible hardware, and find LGE or LG and pick the driver that makes sense

Alright I downloaded those drivers and repeated the steps (device manager, update software, choose from list, uncheck compatible) and nothing with LG or LGE popped up. I decided to just try to install them anyway and it seems to work. I'll resume following the original guide you linked and assume that these drivers will work. I'll probably come back shortly with more questions but hopefully I'll get it this time.

Ok I'm still having trouble, I installed the LG drivers you linked, installed LG FLash tools and didn't run (like it says in the guide), extracted TOT to desktop. I put the phone into download mode then it immediate goes into "Firmware Update" and it is stuck at 0%. In the guide it says it should initialize and load up drivers and I should see LG device under Device Manager. I do not see any device now. Maybe I need to use the old drivers in the guide?

No. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and reinstalled the drivers you linked. I can now see it under devices as an LGE Android Phone. I booted into download mode and it's not initializing or installing drivers... I'm not sure what to do now.

I'll detail each step I've done
Install
1. Install the LG drivers downloaded above. Installed the drivers you gave me.
2. Install LGFlashTools v1.6 (but don't run it) Check
3. Extract the TOT file from the ZIP Check
Drivers initialization
1. Put the phone into download mode. (Turn off device PRESS VOL UP while plugging in the micro usb cable. If this doesn't work, try holding both volume keys instead) Check
2. Let the phone initialize and install the drivers. Once done, in Device manager, you should see the LG phone listed under COM ports (something along these lines). Doesn't initialize or install drivers! As I am typing this my device just disappeared from Device Manager, however, LGE AndroidNet USB Seriel Port (com4) has popped up
3. Find that LG entry in Device Manager, click on Properties, Advanced and then change the COM port to COM41 and close/save.
4. Unplu

It's all good all of a sudden it appeared under ports! Now I'm trying to find an LG Flash tools serial number like it says in the guide but I cannot find one anywhere with a google search. However "free" lg flash tools appear on the top of the list. Not sure what to do here. I'll update where I'm at in the guide in a moment.

Ok here is where I am at.
4. Execute the LGFlashTools. It should ask you for a key, put it in. Now you should see a dialog where you can load the DLL file and the TOT files that you extracted earlier. Put them both in here. Click ok Check
Flashing
5. There is a yellow arrow on the top left. Click on it to initialize the process. Once done, it should say "ready/finished" or whatever. Clicked it and got this error "MilkyWay Control Port Open FAIL!!!."
6. Put the phone in download mode again, and plug it into the USB port. LG FLash Tools should start flashing it automatically. When it's done, it'll automatically reboot into your stock AT&T rom and all of your data and internal sdcard files are gone. Errors here too "Device Model is different!
Check Phone or DLL!

Ok so I was running taboonay 3.0d and I thought I'd have a go at Thor's rom. Flashed it wasn't really into it few things missing that I like in taboonay. So I then restored my back up. All hunky dory.
I then flashed a zip for scrillax v8 bootloader. It seemed to work fine, tablet boots up and rom running fine. I then tried to get to recovery and it's just not happening. Acer recovery says it cannot get root access. When I reboot I can get into the bootloader menu but none of the commands work. I can't get into the recovery menu at all no matter what I do. So then I figured I'd give Blackthund3r's root tool a go. Got everything ready on the pc including latest acer drivers. Now the tab isn't showing up on the pc either. I know some others have had similar problems but no solution was found in the other threads and considering that I probably screwed up badly somewhere along the way I thought I'd start this thread where you can all point out my ignorance and stupidity without bothering anyone else :silly:
Any help?
Any advice at all would be great, I have reinstalled drivers for tab but still no go! I'm on a old xp pro laptop. Everything else connects to the usb port and the cable is working fine
If you can't get to Recovery, you will need to reflash that.
But first thing is first. And that's the driver issue.
With the tab plugged into the PC, go to Device Manager, and see if it reflects there. If not, you will probably have to reload the drivers. You have a choice, which is the Acer Driver installation, or you can try the Google USB Android drivers. Generally I have had not much luck letting windows search the PC, so I usually install them manually. You can either;
a. Direct device manager to look in a specific folder for the google drivers, or;
b. In Device Manager, when you choose update drive, use "select from list" and see if the acer drivers show up there.
Generally, when you install the acer drivers, you should "right" mouse click the install file and select "run as administrator".
MD
Thanks md will give it another go
My device manager has no option for select from list or update drive, just scan for new hardware. Nothing shows up for acer.

Ok, now I run Win 7. But XP should be similar.
Are you saying in device manager, you do not have a device with an exclamation mark when you plug the tab in???
If you do, then right click the exclamation mark, select properties. Then the Tab "driver". Next, select "update driver". Then, "browse my computer for drivers". You should get the option to "select from a list".
If your PC does not detect the tablet at all when you plug it in, then it';s a different issue. It's what we call a USB Brick. At first guess. Usually easy to fix on the 500.
Can you start your tablet in APX mode? hold the pin reset, press and hold pwr. Count to 3, and release pwr, then 1 second later, release the pin reset. You should have a black screen with the pwr lite on.
I'm thinking you might want to do the manual flashing of the bootloader + 1.7.3 recovery. Obviously the bootloader V8 flashed, or it wouldn't work at all. Civato has instructions for manual flashing of the bootloader and recovery. Note that I HOPE you wrote down your UID number somewhere. As you will need to convert it to the SBK.
MD
EDIT. One more note. When you boot to the bootloader menu, in your case, probably the only option that will work is "fastboot mode". When you select it, the menu should go away, and it should say "fastboot mode". Then plug into PC and see if windows detects it in device manager. If so, you can fastboot a recovery image to it. Note, that for fastboot to work, you must have the Android SDK installed on your PC. Because you will have to run the fastboot commands from a command window. But for now, check to see if you get to fastboot mode on the tablet.
Sorry I can't spend a lot of time, as it';s late in moscow. Job tomorrow. But Skirlaz_CZ can give you the commands to fastboot a recovery in his bootloader thread.
Thanks MD I can get into fastboot mode so I'll try that one first. I didn't write and numbers down unfortunately. I was following a thread on tegraowners to install the bootloader which made no mention of making records( I'm a simpleton that needs to be led by the nose)
I appreciate your input

Ouch! No UID numbers. That hurts. Look in your old CWM recovery backups (if you have) on your EXT SD Card. If you were at one time running a more recent version of CWM, You might have them in the recovery folders. The more recent recovery programs in the backup folders, it's called UID.txt. You have to have this if you use NVFlash. No way around that.
With Fastboot, you don't need it, as you will fastboot the recovery image. If successful, that should allow you to boot to recovery, and flash one of the custom roms. Make sure you do your wipes as in the Rom install instructions. I use CWM 1.7.3 (I've been too busy to try EZTerry's or the TWRP versions. But CWM works good so far.
If not, well, there;s always the update.zips to get a stock ICS on your tab.
Either way, we'll get you running, so don't worry. Just takes a little time between time zones, work, and family

Sorry I was away. Did everything work ok for you? All running? (been trying to chase down my rom issue)
If it says "waiting for device", then you need to check your device manager, and make sure the correct driver is recognized. (APX, Fastboot, Recovery, Download, etc). Usually, I can change drivers while this is happening, and the process will complete.
MD
ok I don't mind admitting that I'm totally lost here. Nothing resembling the tab is showing up device manager so how can I check the drivers?I've been playing around with device manager for a while now and I can't find any way to do what you suggested
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers again and again. Nothing! Could it have anything to do with me having a gateway? I wouldn't think so because they're the same inside.
Righto, no matter what I do the tab won't show up. Obviously can't check the drivers without the device showing up so I really am at a loss.
Even if I try the manual flash from civatos thread I will still come up with the same problem. No device no can do

be worth checking you still have usb debugging enabled m8
EDIT: The only other thing i can think of is to put yr tab in apx mode manually (press and hold reset button then press and hold power button, when the pwr lite comes on count 3 seconds and then release it, hold reset another second and then let that go) - you should have a black screen and power lite is on) now connect yr cable and see if the pc picks up the acer boot/recovery driver under usb controllers .
If these drivers install then I'd attempt a rollback to HC using an EUU, at least this method depends on yr pc not seeing yr tab. I'd only attempt this tho if the boot/recovery driver is installed and listed in dev. manager.

The methods return the same error: Phone not detected, please plug the USB cable and retry.

Hi. I have a Verizon LG G2 VS980, which I rooted a few days ago. I had some trouble flashing TWRP and that has caused some issues now. When my phone is turned on, it just recycles the Verizon animation. When I try to do a hard reset, I get a "secure booting error" and then the phone turns off. When I go into download mode to possibly download firmware updates it just sits at 0%. I'm completely lost and can't seem to find any help that is unique to my problem. If you can help, please leave very detailed instructions. Thank you.

LG Mobile Support Tool?? You should be using LG FLASH TOOL mentioned in the post.
Did u download all the files and drivers needed?
To enter Download Mode press and holding vol up key insert the usb cable.

LG Mobile Support Tool?? You should be using LG FLASH TOOL mentioned in the post.
Did u download all the files and drivers needed?
To enter Download Mode press and holding vol up key insert the usb cable.
If Normal flash doesnt work try CSE flash located at the bottom of the tool.

During the process, the LG Flash Tool opens up the LG Mobile Support Tool. Yes, I downloaded the verizon kdz file and both drivers. I followed the guide but no luck.

Strange problem!!
Try uninstalling LG Mobile Support Tool and try again every step very carefully.
If that also fails, hope u got warranty, so take it to service center and i think its the best option as of now.

The same thing was happening to mine! All I did to fix it was....
1. Make sure its turned off by holding the power button until the lg logo stops popping up
2. Hold down Power button+Volume down at the same time
3. Let go of both when you see the lg logo come up and quickly hold down on the power button again
4. From here a white screen will come up saying something like (to factory reset press the power button)
5. After you press it TWRP or Clockwork revovery will come up depending on what you installed
6. Recover your backup
I really hope this helped you!
*EVERY ACTION YOU PERFORM FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK*
That to be said, let's start: i am currently running the latest official nightly build on my d855 and it took me a while to get there. I couldn't find any (real) step-by-step-guide, where i would not have to google any errors or anything else.
Everything you find here is NOT my own knowledge, it is just compilation of sources, that i found on the internet.
Note:
Android 6.0: if you are on 6.0 and you always updated so you're on the latest security-patch-level the one-click-root-method won't work. I recommend downgrading your phone, which will be explained in the following.
Android 5.0: if you're on 5.0 you need to upgrade to 6.0 anyways, bc you need a different baseband-version to install LineageOS. This will also be explained in the following.
1. Make a backup of your phone
this is recommended, although i didn't do this, this is why i am not gonna explain it one here. I just saved my pics and contacts and did a factory reset, restarted my phone, did all the "first time turned on stuff" and connected to my wifi.
Note: Make sure your phone is charged to 60% at least
2. Download the following
a. Download LG G3 Drivers 4.0.4 and install them (i believe there are more recent ones, but this worked for me)
b. Download LG UP
- Download: LG UP Ver. 1.14: LGUP_Install_Ver_1_14_3.msi and LGUP_8974_DLL_Ver_0_5.MSI
- Make sure to install the DLL first and then the other .msi
SOURCE: Thanks to hyelton
c. Download the proper KDZ for you phone.
Note: I got this infos from a german site.
This is the 30C KDZ for the 32gb AND 16gb version: Download here
SOURCE: Thanks to mr bo
3. Downgrade/Upgrade your android-version
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Run LG UP (the tool you just installed) and press okay when you see the error message, that no phone is connected.
3. Press "Volume Up" on your phone and HOLD it, connect your phone to you computer via USB 2.0 PORT! This is important, bc connecting via 3.0 won't let LG UP recognize your phone.
4. Your phone is now in download-mode and LG UP should have recognized your phone.
5. Press SELECT, click on UPGRADE, then click on FILE PATH, choose you prefered .KDZ.
6. i recommend refurbishing your phone (This will wipe your entire system and make a clean install).
CLOSE LG UP and start it back up. The .KDZ should still be there. Now select REFURBISH and click on START. Wait until 100% completed and you phone has booted up completely.

4. Root your phone
1. Download the latest kingroot.apk from here.
2. Connect your phone (turned on, after all the "first time turned on stuff") and move the .apk to your Download-folder.
3. Open the (stock) filemanager on your phone and navigate to Downloads.
4. Install the kingroot.apk (enable third party .apk, when asked)
5. Open the app and root your phone (it's simple, believe me).
6. Your phone is now rooted (leave it turned on, DON'T restart)
5. Install TWRP and update to the latest version
1. Download this pack and unzip it.
2. Move the AutoRecMMD855.apk to your phone and install it just like kingroot.apk before.
3. Open the app and follow the instructions.
4. You now got TWRP on your phone.
SOURCE for #4 and #5 till here: Thanks to tute123456
5. Boot into recovery mode (either with the app itself i think or manually. If you have to do it manually. Turn of your phone. Press POWER and VOLUME DOWN at the same time until the screen shows soemthing. Release and immideatly press again. Your phne will ask you if you want to FACTORY RESET. Press YES and YES. If everything is working properly, TWRP should start up).
6. Connect your phone and download the latest TWRP.img you. In example here's the european one Latest LG G3 TWRP EUROPE
7. I assume you never disconnected your phone since moving kingroot.apk to it. So now you just move the TWRP.img to your Download folder.
8. Choose INSTALL on your phone and search for the TWRP.img. Select RECOVERY and flash it.
9. Choose REBOOT and then RECOVERY.
10. Your phone will boot into TWRP again. It should be updated to the latest version 3.0.2-0.
SOURCE: Thanks to everyone who contributed
6. Flash LineageOS and install GApps
1. Download the latest version of LineageOS (nightly) from here
Optional: make a backup of your phone using TWRP and safe it on your pc or internal SD Card, bc in the next step you will wipe your entire system, to get a clean installation.
2. Press WIPE in TWRP and select ADVANCED WIPE. Select everything but "Micro SD Card" and perform the wipe. This will wipe your entire system!
3. Move the .zip file to the Download folder on your phone and press INSTALL in TWRP. Search for the .zip and flash it.
Note: you'll see two red error messages. This is normal!
4. Wipe cache and dalvik as recommended.
5. Download your desired Open GApps package from here. Use "ARM" and "7.1", i recommend the "mini"-package.
6. Move the downloaded file to your Download folder on your phone and flash it just like you did the LineageOS file.
7. Wipe cache and dalvik.
8. In the main menu of TWRP choose REBOOT and then SYSTEM.
9. It will take a while to boot up, don't worry, just leave it there.
10. You succesfully installed the latest LineageOS build on your phone - you can now unplug your phone from your PC also :good:

Hi pheb92,
Big Thank You, If I had to do it bymyself it would have take me hours!!
-3. Downgrade/Upgrade your android-version -- I had trouble finding the right DLL on my Windows 10 system, onetime I managed to use LG - Up. At that moment the DLL loaded was 4.2.0.0. date 23-8-2016 device name "LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (COM6)"
- 6. Flash LineageOS and install GApps -- I flashed straight from a uSD card inserted in the LG G3.
Thank you for the great Setp-by-Step!

as far as i know LineageOS doesn't have an inbuilt root access (so far) like cyanogenmod did. you can only enable root access via adb in the developer options.
i did not root lineageOS myself so far, but you can try the following:
- Download superSU.zip from their official website and flash it via TWRP.
i would appreciate it, if you would share the outcome

LineageOS does have built in root management, but it doesn't ship rooted by default.
This change was made so SafetyNet doesn't get triggered by root and you can use Android Pay on your device.
Just download the su zip from LineageOS download page and flash.

I am stuck on this step. My d855 gets into download mode and LG UP recognizes the phone, but I'm getting the "You have to select a known model, please" error in LG UP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled LG UP and the DLL multiple times, same problem. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, and I tried other drivers, same problem. I tried the tip in another thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089) to change the port to COM41 in device manager, but it didn't help. Btw I also unrooted my d855 (it has 4.4.2 currently) in case that's why the tool couldn't recognize it. Please help!!
Also @hyelton if you can help...
@engmia since you were helping me earlier...
Thanks.

hi supperbowl,
are you sure you're using a USB 2.0 port and the original LG-USB-Cable, that came with the phone?
as far as i experienced it, 4.4.2 should not be an issue.

Have you tried it with the phone booted into the OS? With USB debugging on? Also if running 4.4.2 why not just use the old method?

No I've only tried it with download mode. I have USB debugging enabled in the OS. I am now trying the old method with LG flash tool, so far I'm getting stuck with the LG mobile support tool which keeps saying "upgrade stopped due to an error".
Edit: LG UP doesn't recognize the handset at all with it booted into the OS.

And USB debugging enabled?
If it's at least detecting unknown device while in download mode it most definitely should show up in lgup when boot up.
Choose MTP mode? And it's not just in "charging mode" or try vice versa?

Yes, USB debugging is enabled and my computer is allowed permissions.
Yes it's MTP and I also tried charge only and LG software modes. With LG Software mode it comes up with the unknown device in the model list again.

what also worked for me once was just retrying the process --> turn off, go into LG UP, go into download-mode. if LG UP does not recognize the phone: put the battery out of your phone, close LG UP and start the process again (also with different USB ports and other USB-Cables).
Hello,
Need to have unlocked bootloader ? Work on SEA version ?
You did not installed LG UP DLL properly

Put the rom on an USB stick, connect the stick to the phone with adapter, go into TWRP and flash the rom.
Easyest solution.

Worst case you can use Qfil.
But first disconnect all unneeded peripherals, and try another cable if possible. Go read the unbricked tested and working. Search the thread for my name, to everything you need in 3 or four posts

Go read the unbricking thread, it is going to take you days to read, understand, and finally unbrick it. If you are not seeing the device in the system manager of your computer ( Assuming you have a PC) then maybe you are actually bricked.
But, you own a phone that can be unbricked, no not a big deal. It can be resolved, the instructions in the unbricked tested and working thread are explicit go read it.
I create several how to's within that thread on unbricking, and have updated the links on the software tools needed. I have personally unbricked 7 leeco, and several others unbricked their phones by following the advice of everyone who contributed to the thread.
Everything you need and more is there that thread, waiting for you.
Go there get the files, read the instructions and soon you phone will work again. Do not download the qfil from the Original post...it doesn't work. I don't have the links to paste at the moment, nor the time to search for you Just use the thread search bar and type my name to get consolidated steps read through all of the posts, because its a progression.
There are three methods you can use to unbrick, the easiest method is probably Qfil, and Flash 2.0
Essentially you need the Qfil: le_zl1_qfil_ufs_fix , FlashOne2.0 files, go ahead and download prog_ufs_firehose_8996_ddr just in case. But it should download automatically. You need to follow the steps to get your computer ready to unbrick the phone...all in the thread instructions.
Once you do it once successfully, it will become easier with each try.

Install Google's USB ADB and Fastboot drivers.
https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb
Can you boot into download mode (I think it's volume down + power) and then connect to PC. After that, you should see the unknown device on device manager. Try to right-click on it and update drivers. On the next screen, select that you have drivers and you'd like to pick your own (not the Windows Update option!) Then select Manufacturer Google and Fastboot/ADB debugging option. Device might work in fastboot now, you can test by doing "fastboot devices". If that works, then you can install ROM via Fastboot.
If this doesn't work, you can revert changes by going into device manager and uninstalling the driver for that device.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
Are you able to see these in screenshots? Between steps 2 and steps 3, you might need to select Android ADB or Android Device before you can see Google in the dropdown.
Maybe after these you might be able to see device in fastboot?
