They probably stopped the update because of all the brickage. There was evidently a lot of problems, so I doubt they would continue to roll out a bad ota.

I'm not sure that's a completely fair description. Verizon did announce the update, after all. They evidently decided not to move forward with the update (for now) due to the bricked devices in the initial rollout, which some have suggested went out to more than just MFN folks who volunteered for soak tests.

My point was more that this thread exists already... Multiple times over. The soak members and only a handful of random IMEIs have received it. This is the way all moto soaks go. There were some issues discovered so they've halted it before general release for now.

Simple point, though. Big Red DID announce the soak, but left the hopeful throngs hanging while they silently pulled it. Also, maybe a little 'serves them right' as the faulty soak was shared and caused problems for the unintended. I've noted before on the loads of folks who have access to do things on/to their phones, but not the expertise, nor the self-control.

OTA
Guys, whether you want root or not...the OTA is out there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577977
It works fine following the update.zip process described. If you want it rooted just make sure you follow the SlapMyMoto process, first, to a T.

That should help you out, if you haven't seen it already. I may or may not hold off on the OTA because it may help with the Droid X rooting efforts. Chances are I'll get it though :-/
This is my first android phone so I'm just wondering...what's the procedure for an OTA update? Will the Droid X automatically prompt us when it becomes available or is there a manual action required?

automatic, so yes something will prompt you and if you don't click for it yourself in 3 minutes is the time frame i believe, it will automatically just do it. it will restart your phone after it downloads and then install and start up again.

FYI; Google around released Froyo update to Motorola, which released to Verizon, which they are testing for release bugs so it doesn't ruin to many customer phones at OTA launch like the other Froyo updates have done in the past. So its Verizon holding Froyo goodness from us...

it also has rules against pointless posts.
Pointless posts contribute more garbage to the forum than pointless threads.
It also puts people at risk of getting fired. Remember people, in this modern society, your online profile can quickly get tracked back to you, and some companies don't take kindly to employee's who reflect badly on their place of work.
