Considering this is LGs second (third if you count the GPE as a separate device), this one.

Optimus UI ported to Nexus 4?

Is this possible? I was thinking since the Optimus G is based on the same hardware, a ported rom might be possible. Any thoughts?
The question is: why? If you wanted that you could've just got an Optimus G

Not everyone has $600 to spend on a smart phone. If you can't answer the question, please don't respond. I'm simply asking just out of curiosity.

Nexus 4 is the same hardware with some variants of Optimus G, so it would be possible.
But software wise, LG Optimus G is still in 4.0.4, and people over there are actually porting Nexus 4 CM to Optimus G.
Porting LG Optimus G stock to Nexus 4 would mean having to settle with 4.0.4, not quite ideal. Making LG UI to work with 4.2.1 would be a major pain.
So... I think possible, but not likely that some devs will work on that (nor it should be done, people are more happy with AOSP/AOKP)

Optimus G is a lot more expensive. And having choices is good for every one. I do agree that AOSP is better, but I also believe in personal liberty.
Of course its possible, but I all depends on the dev if they want to try that project they will and they will share it. Most devs for nexus devices base there ROMs off aosp/stock android so don't expect it right away
Edit:safariking was working on this sort of thing you can contact him if you have a question http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015046&highlight=touchwiz. If you look at the comments he said he will make an lg ui.
I simply asked "why" because even if its possible, without a good reason no dev will work on it!

Well, I meant after LG released at least a 4.1 update. I wouldn't want to be stuck on ICS either.

The Optimus UI has some nice features that AOSP doesn't have. And it would just be a nice alternative to the 10+ AOSP/AOKP roms that will eventually be available.

[Q] Update for LG G2

hi guys i came from LG Optimus 2x section and as LG user i have a question in my mind that bother me to consider LG G2 as one of my choice, as some of you that doesn't know LG Optimus 2x only receive 2 updates in its era, in ICS we wait for almost 1 year to get it, as i understand its looks like 90% NVIDIAs fault because of its apple like rules, so LG Optimus 2x is dropped by LG and never look at it again
so my concern is, is LG will going to update/support LG G2 for at least 2 to 3 years and provide its sources, because it is Qualcomm i know its open source but its up to LG if they will release it. Are they provide on-time update or it will end up like LG Optimus 2x and other 2011 LG units?
my very concern is the update and sources needed by the developers
i know LG G2 is a superb phone and it is a phone that is complete package, another concern about camera shutter lag is it software that can be fix or hardware that cannot be fix?

The LG sources have been out for well over a month now, this isnt an issue, where the issue is is that there are several variants, off the top of my head I believe there are 7. 7! So yeah development is fragmented because of this. Also there are 3 camera Mods that take care of any issues you will have with the stock camera app. Theres not much else to say here. Everything else is subjective and opinion till we find out more.

Hopefully they learn from the Nexus about updates, nevertheless we have a solid Dev community to assist us if LG wants to abandon us, but its way too early to make those kind of judgements, we shall wait and see

Ported, yea for sure, only problem is that I assume the port would have to come from a 4k device, right?
Why ported ?? It's LG main phone - why should they do not upgrade it to 5.0 ?
BTW it's QHD not 4k ;p
EDIT:
As I've read - even G2 has confirmed to Android L update - in fact it's little strange I am not so sure for that, but G3 should be first to get L/5.0 from LG

I guess because it takes other flagship devices a little while to get the newest Android versions, even when it does, it will be LG's 5.0 NOT Google 5.0. The straight up Google experience is reserved for Google phones or special cases where Google has GE versions of flagships (S4 and M7).

Yes of course. I don't saying that G3 will get 5.0 at the they when google will release Android 5.0 - of course LG need some time to make it fit to G3 and recode it launcher etc. It's obvious. I just though, You're saying that G3 will never get 5.0 from LG
BTW LG said that G2 will get 5.0 at the beggining of the 2015 so G3 should get it at the end of 2014...
Not through Verizon, unfortunately. If Verizon ever allows L to be released to their (not your, from their perspective) LG G3's it will probably be next summer, all known root and bootloader exploits patched, and it will be buggy and laggy. The idea will be to get you to buy another expensive phone from them, like maybe an iPhone 6+. This is how Verizon manages to barely stay profitable with all the network investments they are constantly making...by screwing their customers every way they can figure out how to.
But...unlimited data...

Lollipop

So, as everybody in the android world knows, the nexus 6 and 9 were announced along with 5.0 (Lollipop). The nexus 9 looks like a promising tablet and with stock Lollipop right out of the box (of course! It's a nexus) it should cause a few of us to pull out our wallets. A lot of gpad owners are probably feeling a bit envious, epecially if you just recently purchased it and are afraid it wont get any Lollipop treatment; However, I wouldn't get too jealous.
With the announcement that the nexus 4, 5, and 7 would get the update came another small detail. All google play edition devices would receive the update as well. As far as I know, this means GPE available in the play store currently AND in the past (gpad!).
The gpad GPE is certainly a great device and deserves 5.0. Here's to hoping it stays alive.
Plus it shouldn't be too hard to port over the GPE rom to the regular gpad as well. I'm fairly optimistic about this, but what do you guys think?

Actually its impossible to port the GPE rom as KitKat was never successfully done. Best bet is just waiting for the Developers to produce a great rom. Very satisfied with my g pad. Apart from pressure from consumerism why would I want a nexus 9. What can it do that the g pad can't??????

All of which are things we are being told we need. If packaged the same most people would be able to tell the difference in screen and sound but we are constantly bombarded with PPI stats and device specs that have no real bearing in the real world.
Its easy to want the nexus 9 it looks amazing but when I think about it the g pad does everything I need and the spec is far from being outdated. And I use my pad everyday for work
Just my thoughts.

Yes...hopefully!
I think LG has long since moved on to other, but not necessarily better things, which is a pity as the G-Pad is still my favorite device and one which I use for work every day. Lollipop on this thing would certainly make it even better.
Though it's a great dream to wake up one morning to hear that LG will be updating the 8.3 to Lollipop along with the newer G-Pads, their track record isn't that great (and being left out of the current round of Nexus devices doesn't help any). We can always hope for a rockin' 5.0 ROM in the coming months and extend our G-Pads that much longer!
Mark
I think the 8.3 has the better chance of all LG tablets to get Lollipop - after all, it still is the top dog in LG's talet line. The recent trio are definitely lower end.
LG mum so far
http://www.engadget.com/2014/10/19/android-lollipop-roundup/
According to GSM Arena, V500 will get Lollipop...
http://www.gsmarena.com/all_the_android_phones_getting_50_lollipop_update_so_far-news-9980.php
My guess is since the gpad 8.3 was listed under google and not under LG that the GPE edition will get 5.0. I'd love to see 5.0 on the V500 and I would give stock a chance again if the sdcard problem was also fixed. However LG's silence is concerning. If they want to continue to get my money they need to support their products. Now if they did something crazy and fully unlocked the bootloader on the v500 so we didn't need to use the Loki work around I'd be quite happy. I'm still pleased with my purchase and wouldn't go back and change it though...
Hmmm.... my Galaxy S4 is also listed under Google... So I have high hopes for my devices...
Well, that has a GPE as well, so it's more than likely that version of the phone if you have it that'll be updated to Lollipop:

you are right, as those listed under google are gpe products
nevertheless we can port the gpe kernel to v500 and have aosp lollipop on the device
So G3 and G2 is confirmed. G pad is soon 12 months old, if lg don't update the g pad v500 to lollipop I will never buy a lg device again (except a nexus).
I just sent in a support query asking them about the v500 and v5.0, I got back the typical nonresponse response (we have nothing to announce yet... etc.)
Unofficial builds of CM12 have started rolling out for other devices. That will be our best hope. LG are awful with updates

LG Freaking Pathetic

I would never have believe a company the size of LG would let their smartphone business become so pathetic. My backup phone is an Essential PH-1 which is now two years old, first released May '17, and as of this AM I'm rocking Q Beta3 on a TWO YEAR old phone while LG hasn't even managed to get a supposed FLAGSHIP device (v35), released May '18, to Android Pie.
Who the F******* is running LG????????????????????????????????? What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!
Just unlock the bootloader and let the XDA community handle your business LG 'cause you obviously can't.
lg sucks butt

LG does make great phones -- great hardware, great features. The V30+ (128GB internal memory) especially was the best phone of 2017... They are just terrible at Android OS updates.
On the V30, they HAVE to give Android security updates at least every 3 months for 3 years. And they have pretty much done that.
And they HAVE to give all V30 variants PIE (also in the same agreement), but there was no date requirements on THAT.
V35 didn't have those promises in writing like the V30 did...
