Not one of the custom roms available for our device supports XBMC. You can install and run the app but it will not register any screen touches. This is the case with all of them.
What gives?

Hey all,
I'm trying to decide whether to jump into unlocking and rooting my N1 for a custom rom (now that Cyanogen's released his first beta).
I've not done this before on an Android phone--quick question:
Can you still use the Android marketplace to get apps after you've loaded a custom rom and loaded the Google apps pack? What about your already purchased apps, are they still available for you to download?
Thanks!
--Hans
I have not purchased any apps, but I have had no issues with the marketplace and I have rooted and installed custom packs.
I've purchased quite a few apps and haven't had any problems with the roms that are our currently. I'm running CM 5.0 b2 at the moment. I know what you're saying though. With the G1/MyTouch, I'd occasionally come across a ROM where I'd have to chmod or use the market enabler.
For those of you who run 10.1 LTE the thread below has a 3.2 LEAK ROM that gets Touchwiz UX and AnyConnect support. (finally!)

An issue that I need help with...
One app (the Exchange Touchdown license KEY) shows that my device, running the ROM listed above, is not compatible.
How have you all gotten around this before to allow the app to install on a custom ROM?
Thanks!
Try installing the APk manually if you have it or restore from titanium and see if that does it.
Hi All,
I use a banking app called easybanking from BNP fortis in Belgium. It works on Touchwiz based roms (Omega, Echo etc...) and CM 11 but I can't get it to work on Danvdh GE rom, which is unfortunately is my favorite.
What happens is the touch screen buttons are disabled, this happens both when I do a new install or from the TB backup from a work rom, the app launches but I can't interact with it. The support team for the bank simply says they don't support rooted phones, but since TW and CM roms work, I figure there must be something specific to the GE rom, Anyone have any ideas, similar issues?
I've tried Hide my root, rootcloak (plus) but no luck.
I'd ask in the rom specific forum, but I don't have access to post
Any ideas would be welcome
Thanks
Scott
I'm looking to use the NFC Card Emulator app with an S8 to emulate my apartment's NFC access card.
I've already done this on my Pixel with no issues--all it really needs is root. But with Samsung phones it's a bit more complicated since apparently Samsung stock doesn't allow you to write to the NFC configuration file, even with root. Supposedly it is possible with a non-stock ROM.
So, before I go on a possible trial-and-error ROM flashing spree, I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any S8 ROMs here that would work for this (or if anyone is actually emulating NFC now and if so, what ROM are you using to do so). Many of the ROMs are stock based, and I'm not sure if that would entail the same limitations on NFC writing.
Cheers

The Xposed one? I hope your have an exynos cause it doesn't work with any snapdragon rom as they are all based off stock

No, it's standalone on the Play store. It can use Xposed to broadcast NFC with screen off, but doesn't need Xposed to work. My Pixel is on stock 8.2 beta 2 and obviously not running Xposed, and the app works just fine so long as the screen is on (even without unlocking). I have my elevator access card written to it so I just tap my phone to use the elevator.
The S8 that I'm trying to replicate this on is one of the Exynos chip models, it's the G950FD. On the app itself, it warns that Samsung devices on stock ROMs won't be able to use the app because Samsung locks the NFC config file, but that any non-stock ROM (and they give Aurora ROM as a specific example) will work fine. Aurora ROM says that it's based on "Samsung Experience 8.1" which I assume means that it's stock based. What I'm wondering is, does that mean I should be able to use any stock based ROM (as long as it isn't actually just stock) and have this work.

Really, I was thinking of that specific app as I installed it from play store. When it didn't work I apparently mistakenly assumed it was due to Xposed when it sounds like it was due to the stock s8 ROMs NFC bits. Good to know! Thanks for the info.
Did it work after all?
Is there no way to do this?
I really want it
Hey so Im new to samsung phones, but i got my hands on an old galaxy note 4 910T model that I want to repurpose. I come from oneplus phones, and I have no intention of using samsung's touchwiz OS.
based on the research i've done, if I try to install a non TW rom, the S-PEN's feature won't work. is this correct? Does that mean it can't function as a normal stylus as well? or that it won't have the fancy other stuff?
if the stylus works just for normal touching, then that is fine with me.
I'm looking into possibly using lineageos 16.0.
Any advices / tips or tricks you guys got for me?
also, is there any like discord for you guys so i can instantly ask questions / get help live instead of the forums which is a bit slower?
Your assumption about the Spen is accurate; the stylus will work as a normal pointer and touch device but the fancy stuff baked into the Samsung TouchWiz ROMs won't be there (when you pull the pen out on TW ROMs a menu shows up).
I would highly recommend you start with Havoc-OS ROM Pie which right now is my favorite for this phone (I have the same version) because everything works great out of the box.
Install the proper TWRP (trlte) via Odin, boot into 'Recovery' and you should be able to install your custom ROM in no time.
Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

makes sense. so if i were to run a non-TW rom, the s-pen would still be able to press stuff? how come it doesn't work on like a oneplus phone? or does it use different glass or something

Yes, it works just fine to select and press on the phone screen. It's probably because the OS is specific to the Note 4 and is configured to recognize its own SPen.
