No Sound what so ever. No calls, incoming and outgoing. No Video. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello. Before I explain, please know I have been moddng and installing custom firmwares on devices for many years now. This is no simple fix. I have no idea how to solve this but I will post everything I did to get the issue and then everything I did trying to fix it to no avail.
Samsung S4 Canadian phone from Bell.
CM 10.2 firmware.
Upgraded the Nightly on Dec. 23rd 2013
After the reboot, I noticed that when I tried to play MP3's, they would not play, it just skipped through all of them.
Putting new MP3's on the card did not help. Neither did putting MP3's on the phone it's self.
I noticed that the phone was making no sounds what so ever. My morning alarm did not go off.
I received a phone call. Phone crashed. Tried to place phone call, screen goes blank, phone crashes. Also learned that any app that utilizes sound crashes.
Tried the obvious fix, restored phone from restore made before the Nightly install.
No sound, no phone. No video.
Installed all previous CM backups (15 in total)
No sound, No phone, no video.
Factory reset.
No sound, No phone, no video.
Fresh Install.
No sound, No phone, no video.
Re flashed TWRP
No sound, No phone, no video.
Flashed CM Recovery.
No sound, No phone, no video.
Went through ALL previous backups. (32 in total before CM was installed on phone)
No sound, No phone, no video.
Flashed to stock ROM from a same ROM that has worked previously.
No sound, No phone, no video.
Used KIES (or however its spelled) to update phone to newest legit firmware.
No sound, No phone, no video. Also no Wi-Fi. seandroid kernal notice does disappear however upon boot.
Factory reset from Samsung native recovery.
No sound, No phone, no video. No Wi-Fi
I have to admit, this is the first issue ever I have not been able to fix or find an answer too after extensive hunting on Google or through these forms. I can guarentee that this is not a hardware issue, this only happened after flashing the CM Nightly on Dec 23rd 2013. I am at a total loss.
Any suggestions? Any fix before I reflash back to stock, update and bring it in to Bell? ( so happy I pay the extra monthly for insurance

Similar thing happened to me. I had to Odin MDL and start from complete scratch. That was the only thing that fixed it after 6 backups and a complete reinstall.
You might also check that your speaker contacts are connected properly if you are comfortable take the device apart.

I also had this issue, so did a friend of mine. Both of us had to flash back to stock to fix it. No idea why it happened or what caused it. Odin fixed it, though.

Weird issue after flashing kernel and modem to stock

So I'm on a Bell/Virgin SGS2 which is rooted and SIM unlocked and is now on Rogers. CF-Root worked great and I removed the yellow triangle by flashing a stock kernel.
Once the legit Bell/Virgin kernel/modem/firmware was released, I decided that it wouldn't be a bad idea to put it back to as close to stock as possible so I flashed the modem and the kernel. The flash itself went fine, no issues.
The problem is that now, when I play music, the phone will randomly do what seems almost like a soft reboot. The music will stop and the screen will briefly lock and then turn off. If I try and wake it up over the next five seconds, nothing happens. After 5-10 seconds, the phone will respond, but it will briefly have no service (which is restored after 5 seconds or so) and it will tell me that the media scanner is running and then finished. Once that happens, all is back to normal and I can resume playing music... until it happens again.
In the meantime I've played 720p MKVs without any issues and all the other phone functions seem to be normal... the only thing that is causing me grief is the music playback.
Anyone have any suggestions? I only flashed the modem and the kernel, not the firmware. Should I try flashing EVERYTHING?
most likely yeh - u should reflash it mate.
So I flashed the firmware. Phone came back and appeared to be working normally again. Go to play some music today and the same thing...
What can be done? I've entertained the idea that it could be something with the files themselves. I've pulled the files off and will try some other music files to see if I can duplicate the issue with them. Just wondering if anyone could suggest anything else to try.
Is there anything like a "restore" feature? What about the "format USB storage" option? It says it will erase all data on the phone such as music and photos... this won't damage any of the other files/folders? Is there anything that wipes out all of the installed applications and settings?
Are you using the stock app? This happens to me to. Non rooted stock firmware. Try winamp and see if it continues to happen.

Have you wiped the Dalvik cache after flashing? Which firmware are you using? I had this issue in the past up to KE7, but I think from KG3 onwards it didn't happen anymore. Also you may try a different audio player, as this issue seems to be exclusively related with the stock one.
I'm currently using PowerAMP, quite expensive ($4.99 but with 14 days free trial) but in my opinion it worth every penny (or cent, whatever), specially because of equaliser, but also because you plug the headset it starts playing automatically. There are also a infinity of different players in the market, and the stock SGS2 player is definitely not the best you can find.
If you try the above options and they are not successful, you should flash the firmware u want to use and do a factory reset, I don't think you have to flash a modem or a kernel if your present setup is working the way it should, people usually do that if they are experiencing some type of issue, like poor signal, poor data speeds or WiFi signal issues (modem) or bad battery life, phone lagging etc. (kernel). The flashing of the modem should not cause an issue, but the flashing of the kernel may have.
Also, your device is either running the stock firmware or it isn't, flashing anything other than the full firmware to keep it "close to stock" can cause a device that was working perfectly to continue working perfectly or not, in your case it was "not"
Hope all is well after a clearing of the Dalvik or a reset
I've flashed the firmware but have no done a factory reset. I attempted to Google how to perform a factory reset and wasn't able to come up with much... is a factory reset referred to as a hard reset? That's all that really came up, but I've never heard a reset of that nature referred to that way before.
I'm currently using the stock Bell KG2 firmware. Everything on the phone should be stock at this point. When I flashed the firmware I presumably lost my root so the only modification remaining would be my SIM unlock which is still working.
I'll perform this Dalvik cleaning and try another music app and if I continue to have issues I'll be sure to return to this thread. Thanks for the help guys

Slimbean 4.2.2 Build - media issues

Hi all,
I recently installed the newest build of Slimbean. I am having a few issues: I am unable to play any media... Music, videos (youtube). My phone app does not work. I cannot receive nor send any calls. And my phone produces no sounds at all.
I tried installing build 7 to see if it was an issue with the build I was using... didn't help.
Internet and wifi work without any problems.
Galaxy S4 i337m
Baseband: I337MUMUAMDL
Version: Slim-4.2.2.build.7-OFFICIAL
Build #: slim_jfltecan-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39E eng.blk_jack.20130706.15730 test-keys
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

I'd Odin back to stock and see if you still have the issue. If you do it's a hardware issue.

I did just that... But it's a bit of a story.
I had just fixed another problem I was having yesterday. Was getting stuck at the S4 splash screen right after powering on the phone. The problem was caused by TWRP 2.6 and formatting /data partition. Long story short, I installed CWM and used it to do a full wipe/format of partitions and then was able to install ROMs, restore backups without issue.
So today, since everything was working, I decided to flash a new custom ROM (which I installed) and the MG1 radio. Wasn't having any luck with the radio. Finally, I was able to flash a radio via mobile odin, but then I soft bricked my phone. Got stuck at the S4 splash screen (same issue I had yesterday, but this time, a different cause). So was troubleshooting it all day. Tried to go back to stock, no luck. Tried to restore the stock backup I had, no luck. Only thing I could do was install custom ROMs at this point to get into my phone (i.e. Slimbean, FoxHound, etc...). But, at this point, although I could boot into Android, I had no sound at all and couldn't play video. So after hours of trial and error, I installed CWM again (replacing TWRP 2.5.0.2), did a full wipe/format and tried to install a stock ROM. No luck. Still was hanging at the S4 splash screen. Then I tried to install this ROM again which I had luck with in the past; |ROM| |★VLUAMG1★| |CANADIAN||i337M||STOCK||ROOTED||July.26.13|. But his instructions said to install a wifi fix or fear soft bricking my phone. So I installed the wifi fix, but selected the wrong file (I know, stupid. Done a lot of stupid **** in the past couple days with this phone). Now, after the phone rebooted, I would see the S4 splash screen for a split second, and it would auto load into download (odin) mode. Couldn't get into recovery at all. So then I decided to flash one of the stock ROMs I tried earlier that didn't work, but this time, SUCCESS!!!!! Phone was booting and all sounds worked. I could make/receive phone calls as well... Everything seems to be working fine now. I find it funny that flashing a wifi fix that I shouldn't have seems to have fixed my issue in a sense. Since it allowed me to successfully flash a stock ROM. So I am making a backup of the stock ROM and will decide what I'm going to do from here.
Holy goalie!!! It's been a very vexing couple of days.
Nice that you got it all worked out, I've found out that if your "status" is custom, it will sometimes give you problems when flashing a "stock" rom via odin.
So what I always do when reverting back to the stock rom, I use triangle away to clear the flash count and make my phone back to "Official". If you want the steps to do this, let me know, it's not hard, but there are crucial steps to get this right!

Audio/mic issues. New ROM/radio. I'm probably an idiot.

I have a sprint galaxy s4. It has been rooted, the Sim was unlocked. I recently upgraded to CM12.1, and I has some issues, so I decided to try a different ROM.
This is probably where I went wrong. I figured, heck, let's update the radio/modem while we're at it. So I went through ODIN, tried to update, and it never took. The download always failed when flashing. Eventually it would only load into the download bootloader. It was late, so I just charged the phone and left it alone. The next morning, it loaded back into cm12.1. I decided to forget about the radio/modem, and installed the new optimized cm12.1 ROM.
Now, whenever I try to use anything with audio or the microphone, the audiofx force closes. Or on another ROM, DSP manager force closes. I cant hear or speak in phone calls, YouTube and music players say they can't play the audio/video.
I currently have baseband ending in mdc which is what I had to use to unlock the Sim. When i tried and failed to update the baseband i was trying mf9. I don't know why, really...
I have tried 3 different versions of a 5.1.1 ROM, all with the same result. No audio, phone calls are useless.
Please help! I'm not sure what to do from here.

[Q] sgh 1337 UN stuck on Samsung splash screen (safe strap broken)

So, I have gotten myself in a bit of a pickle I however think I can get out of it by sideloading using EXT. SD, Im not sure what to flash to solve the dillemma however. So this is the situation. I have a (had) a rooted Galaxy s4 (sgh-i337 ucufnc1) with 4.4.2 android. It had safestrap installed and back ups of everything else in sd card and other locations just in case. The phone was acting buggy, so I formatted the phone with safestrap, the problem persisted, ill get into the issue a bit further down. So I booted back into safestrap, and did a complete wipe, however my sd card must've bumped out, because it didnt delete any media files or so it said, and then after the wipe it crashed. and refuses to boot into safestrap or even past the splash logo. I can get into download mode, but usb debugging isnt on anymore since i wiped it, I can get into the other mode as well ( cant for the life of me remember the name of it atm although i use it frequently) with some luck. I also happen to have all .md5 files from a backup i did about 4 months ago in tact, I cannot for the life of me get them to convert properly to apply them to the phone without safestrap however, if anyone has any insight to this please let me know also.
I can/will list any other information I have if anyone needs it, and if anyone can help it would safe a life!
The reason i reformatted it to begin with, was because media would stall, and when i plugged in the audio jack it'd freeze the entire app using it, then the whole phone would freeze. I believe it was due to lucky patcher but im unsure. The issue began when I altered the auto update file, and even after i rectified it, it persisted. At this time i have a phone soft bricked because it didnt delete all the media files and I assume something bugged onto the kernel image but Im not sure. If I can simply try to restore it to stock kernel then im fine with that.

UPDATE: I resolved the issue, by rooting, safestrapping, ripping the image files, from another galaxy s4 with alike descriptions. then i managed to side load it, then it booted properly, i then reformatted it completely back to 100% factory everything. Now my original problem persists, and i cant help feel that google services is causing it. (examnples of issues" proccess.gapps has stopped. anotrher process error code. phone calls can be made, but not recieved as it seems the server is too busy to n otice it, massive battery drain, audio takes several seconds to play, while video continues to play fine, audiojack is mostly unresponsive, phone calls that are made cannot recieve or send audio during call session, phone may freeze at unlock screen, or any time during operation, may even reboot from process overloading" now keep in mind. i removed every system file and app that the natural reformat will allow. so nothing applied by the user is on the phone, other than natural factory applications. Im digging a bit into the phone as i can but its a slow process whenit starts freezing. if anyone has any idea of what can be causing this, or how to fix this please inform me lol.

The best solution must be installing the stock firmware via odin. Since you are on NC1 , You can installed the stock NB1.
Here is guide explaining you using odin, installing NB1, root with towel root, updated NC1, install the safestrap. The guide was not specifically written for that but you can find those steps in the guide.
I will attempt to do this, since nothing since has work. I am about to get a new logic board for the system in the next 2 weeks. Towel root DOES typically work on this system, however the last time I attmpted it it failed to work outright. Im not sure what has changed with the device, but i believe reflashing stock is the best method. The phone now, will boot up, then skip the lock screen and go straight to the home screen, which is black with no pull down bar, or with no signal and there is no way to rectify it. Even if there were, it boots back down and launches back up and becomes locked at the ATT logo.
After a fair bit of messing with it, and recovery mode it will sometimes boot normally where it tells me that processes has failed and askes me to cancel the ''app''. This is the best option to update the phone and attempt root, but getting it here is so difficult because it reboots itself and the mode is rare to acquire. This problem either is due to the kernel, or the rom i believe. I also am to believe the powercell may have some issue, as i replaced the battery a few weeks back and it worked fine for about 1 week.
Booting into safemode doesnt work either as it skips over the lock screen straight to the home screen. Outsidce of replacing the logic board, or attempting another flash im at the end of the short rope i was already on in terms of options.

UPDATE: I found therein two methods to flashback to stock. I did so, then proceeded to attempt to flash from nb1 to nj4. Progress stopped there when it flung an error 7 at me. So this means either something in my phone is corrupted or the file i downloaded from the above mentioned forum is corrupted. I also attempted flashfire, but seen as it STILL crashes at random due to process errors thats almost impossible to attempt.

Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 - Giant Software Problems

First of all, I flashed TWRP 2 days ago and then LineageOS 14.1. Then the GApps. What I thought was kimic: I couldn't install the GApps stock package, it always showed the error message "70". This probably means that there is not enough memory.
With an S5, everything worked out without any problems, even though the storage partitioning should be the same?
Well, where lineageOS then ran, including the GApps in the Mini version - not Stock, everything went smoothly.
Later, when I inserted a SIM card, the problems started. The net disappears sporadically. In other words: Sometimes you have 4G or 3G and the next moment you are cut off from the outside world. The device is in the same position, so reception should definitely be this.
I ironed LineageOS 5 times - always the same.
Then last night I searched the net for a long time and flashed a 3-part stock ROM. In the hope that the problem could be solved in this way, but not at all!
After further research I even found a 4-part firmware + PIT and flashed it with ODIN.
Even here, the S4 is still shaking. The newest Stock OS is now running on the device. If you run it up, the same errors occur as under LineageOS 14.1.
crashes sporadically (reboot)
Calls hardly or not at all (you can enter a number under very difficult conditions, the other side rings as well, but the earcup of the S4 does not make a sound.
If I go to the settings under "Tones" and select a ring tone, the phone is completely unpacked, jerks, hangs for a few seconds and the ringtone I can't listen to, because the device reboots again.
Do you have any tips for that?
Or is that part ready for the barrel?
Be very grateful for help.
Ps. I bought the device 2 days ago from a colleague. So I can't say if the problem was before my flashing. However, I think where I have inspected the device before buying, everything seemed to be fine.
Current status:
Sometimes the loudspeaker goes after booting, sometimes not
No more power supply after a short time (also no emergency calls!)), then no more sound after that
Sporadic reboots within a short period of time
Have also tried disaster recovery via Samsung Smart Switch. Everything went through without a hitch - problems still exist.
What else can it be?
Until the flashing of TWRP failed, the phone worked fine. Can it have suffered hardware damage? Or is it just software? What can I do?
