Thank you but I don't want to void my warranty unlocking bootloader that's why I asked how to root without it...
In my opinion it's not fair selling device without unlock and then put lock on it.

[Q] lost root access

Hi, forgive me if this is a stupid question but after flashing the latest t0lte nightly I have lost root access.
How has this happened?
I've been flashing CM nightlies for weeks but fancied a change after reading up about omnirom.
Im running an international note 2 LTE using cwm, rooted with Odin.
How do I get root access back? Is it case of me having to flash via Odin again?
More than grateful for any help here!
Cheers

Flash SuperSU in recovery
We haven't yet integrated SuperSU into the package itself, and fixing that has been low priority since:
1) You can't flash Omni without a custom recovery
2) If you have a custom recovery that can flash Omni, you can flash SuperSU in recovery
3) Once you've flashed SuperSU, you can go to its Settings->Custom ROM and enable the backup script

I had that error too when I was trying. I was on D80010q before the 4.4.2 update(D80010c after update I think). Looks like you have the same issue I had.
I'm pretty sure the only way to root it now is to downgrade the firmware, then root. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2633150
Also: Mid-way through this is the ansewer. You must downgrade before rooting. (the link above is to downgrade & root).

[ROOT] CWM Test 8/Flashable SuperSU

As discovered in the Q&A post found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/root-t2886674/page2
Just like the first Moto X, users have been having success rooting by unlocking the bootloader and just flashing SuperSU with CWM. This is a test release so it may be wise just just boot to CWM to flash SuperSU instead of flash it. Use caution as always.
Bootloader Unlock Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/guide-unlock-bootloader-moto-x-2014-t2876773
CWM Test 8: http://d-h.st/XJr
SuperSU flashable ZIP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
I can report that this did work for me and I have achieved root.
Steps I took:
1. Unlock bootloader using Motorola's website
2. boot to bootloader, flash or boot to recovery with fastboot command (fastboot flash recovery cwm.img/fastboot boot cwm.img) *There really isn't a reason to flash this. It is very broken. Consider keeping your original recovery!*
3. boot to cwm and flash superSU zip
4. CWM will prompt to fix root, choose YES
5. Rooted!
Almost everything besides flashing a zip is broken in this CWM release, don't expect to be able to backup with it.

I appreciate you posting this, could you by any chance post a little bit more detail on how to do the flash? Is it as simple as extracting the recovery image and flashing from ADB? How do you then flash SuperSU?

I added some basic steps to original post, use caution as this isn't the most secure way to root but it will do for now. If you need further help, you should probably wait for a safer method.

What are the gaps in security? When you say secure, do you mean safe as in not bricking the phone or security as in data is at risk, etc.?

the steps you listed are pretty much it. can't get any easier than that. exactly how it was on the previous MotoX. unlock bootloader, fastboot flash recovery .img. then just reboot to recovery and flash SuperSU zip. very straight forward.
edit: also, fix permissions shouldn't be required...

It was just mentioned in the original post, I guess it doesn't matter. And by not secure I mean that the CWM is a test release so I don't know what could go wrong.

yeah i'm still awaiting a device so i'm not 100% sure on the persmissions. the zip should do all the work for the user, though, via the update-binary.

Thanks for posting this, I suggested the guys in Q&A to do that. If anybody needs help, I made the process successfully back on Q&A (when they were testing the recovery)

I apologize, I did not realize if you are just booting, you don't need the "recovery" part of that command. Glad it worked for you!
You mention that this version of CWM is limited to basically sideband loading and won't do backup. Do you happen to know where I can find a copy of CWM for the X 2014 that gives me shell access? I've already unlocked and rooted my phone, but busted my screen and want to back things up. I went to their rom manager page and can't find either version of the X. Would either a 6.0.5.1 or one of the Nexus ones work?

5.0.1 OTA for ROOTED Shield Tablets (DL Provided)

***For US LTE Tablet***
Here is a .zip you can flash to update to 5.0.1 from 5.0. The OTA was pulled from my device which I factory reset to 4.4.4. It will remove root and it will reflash the stock recovery, but it will NOT relock your bootloader. Make backups! Flash at your own risk! I am not responsible for any damage that occurs.
The reason why the new 5.0.1 OTA does not flash for rooted users is a sha1 hash is generated from the system partition. If it doesn't match what the hash should be from the factory, it fails out. Removing these checks will break your device because of the new differential update method employed, which is why these sha1 hashes are so important. The .zip I have is a standard update (not differential) and can be flashed with any recovery you want

I never came into a situation, where i had to use some extra boot.img.
When I got my shield recently, I directly updated to 5.0 before rooting and only did the update to 5.0.1 with a previously rooted device.
So, I'd assume, if you are on 5.0 rooted, my instructions should work for you.
And careful, as mentioned above, my link is for the Rest of the world LTE version! (not us!)

No, but the File from the guy, who started this thread should work for the U.S. LTE version following the same instructions as I just gave.
How long should it be sitting at the NVIDIA screen after flashing the update?
It went after a couple minutes.

Here's the stock .tar file courtesy of Sammobile. Flash using Odin or use it as a base to whatever ROM you want to build.

Did you install the update over the existing firmware the phone comes with or did you root and TWRP after installing it?
Stock firmware was pd2 when I got the phone two weeks ago. I updated then twrp then root through twrp.

I can't remember where I got the them but the file names on my pc is odintwrp-3.0.2.0- j700t.zip and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip.
It was quite easy to do it only took maybe 10min total.

Meaning I took the ota. Oem unlock, odin flash twrp, before it can boot you need to pull the battery then put it back in and hold volume up+home+power. Then it will boot into twrp recovery. Then just install the supersu zip and reboot.
Meanwhile I can't get root to properly install on PJ3. Tried flashing SuperSU 2.76 and it says I don't have root in SuperSU. Ugh.
Edit: Completely forgot to flash the permissive/root friendly kernel. Working now.
Good deal i flashed the kernal after everything was done. Now i have to try and disable knox. Just keeps telling me i dont have root even when i have to grant permissions.

meaning you flashed the kernal after root and recovery, correct? Or did you have to go back to stock then re- root and twrp?
Yeah I did the kernel after everything. Then you have to reflash superuser through twrp.... although everything worked just fine without the kernel. Ie. Root, twrp and removal of knox.

Here you go. remember to pull your battery after flashing twrp. Then pop it back in and hold volume up home and power until you see twrp screen and make sure that superuser is on your external sd or you won't see it.

thx!!
I rooted my J700T back in June 2016. I want to know how I can update it to the latest update. When I try to, I get a popup saying it cant update due to the phone being modified in an unauthorized way. How do I update it without losing root and twrp?
I tried flashing supersu but logs say it cant mount anything and fails.. twrp flashed ok via odin.. phone still boots ok

How did you remove knox?
Just used titanium backup to uninstall knox after i rooted.
If I purchased my SM-J700T this year at a T-Mobile store is it this firmware? I am sure I have the 2015 model. Device name Galaxy J7 Android version 6.0.1 Baseband J700TUVU2APK6 Rooted twrp custom kernel . I need to go back to stock to return it. I cannot find the correct version of firmware to go back to unrooted stock.
