S-View cover notifications - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, merry Christmas ?.
I have been gifted with a S-View cover. And now I am wondering if there is an app that shows you the notifications through the window opening. Something like noled or something. Because the notification led is not visible.
Thanks

Ive seen others mention that they had drilled or cut a hole in the case where the led sits. Depends how much you want to see the led and if youre happy enough to mod your case.

Hmm ok, thanks for the answer.. I am not planning in drilling a hole in my gift ?. I've found an app: missed message flasher, will try it out. Essentially it makes the screen light up when you have notification. I hope it is a good option.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm curious how you made out with this app ... I installed it but for some reason with the S View case closed the screen only cycles on twice and then quits. With the case open it'll cycle all day long

[Q] How to turn off the LED light of the function keys?

While reading in night, the LED light of the 4 function keys(at the bottom of Vibrant) is really dazzling.
Anyone knows how to turn it off just by software mod?
Thanks in adv.
Black electrical tape over it
Wear sunglasses to bed?
Seriously though, when I'm reading ebooks with Aldiko, the backlight only comes on during page flips....for all of about a quarter of a second....if that.
I don't know of any software mod to change the timeout period. The Epic4G has a setting for this I believe. Best of luck...
Thanks anyway.
Still waiting......

Use a black sharpie marker. Problem solved
I don't think there is a way to do that as of yet. Maybe you should ask one of thê devs or post this concern in the development section. Ignore the a-holes.

My Beautiful Galaxy Note Has Died!!!

My Note has been running PERFECTLY ever since I received it, then suddenly today, while I was browsing, the screen just shut off.
I thought It might have been rebooting but I restarted it many times, took the battery out and the screen will not turn on I even put it in the fridge (just incase it was overheating) Nada.
The HDMI out works, and you can tell that something is happening but the screen is just black and then slowly fades to green (see attached picture).
I've never dropped it, It has never come into contact with water or anything, this is just out of the blue.
Any ideas or just a very late showing fault? I'm devastated!!
And if it is the unthinkable, what is the best way to backup everything (settings, launcher settings etc) I can just use HDMI out and guess where to touch.
Could be a screen failure. Time to send it to the service centre.
Dam I would send it out for service..

This is horrible, James. I know how much you love your Note thanks to your fantastic videos.
I usually perform two backups. One using Titanium Backup with the external SD card as the backup location and another using CWM (nandroid).
Do these and you should be all set. I guess you have a bluetooth mouse. Use that to navigate the interface.
Awww man that sucks. I'm really sorry.
Give it back to Sammy... they'll fix it.
If you need a video/instructions how to do a nandroid backup, do tell (if HDMI doesn't work).
Wow..such a nice community we have here ;D everyone is willingly to help each others. Make me proud to be part of it

I dont know if its a known issue or not, but I was using a custom kernel and or ROM when it happened on my end so I just blamed it on those.
... ... ...
Hmm not good, i never heard of it and i think it isn't easy to repair.
Just send it back to Samsung. Do you flashed any other Roms on it or just do something else with it?

[Q] S-View flip cover Mods

Howdy y'all.
I was wondering about mods that work with the s-view flip cover. While I love the cover, there are a lot of things that I think could be done better.
Some obvious things would be more detailed notifications, or changing tracks while listening to music. Possibly quick settings.
Are there any devs working on mods for the s-view cover? Is it even possible? If it is possible, but no one is working on it, where could I start? (I am no dev, but would be willing to try)
Thanks.
I wouldn't rule anything out, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for mods. It would really be dependent on a developer actually having the S-View cover. It would be interesting to see what could be done with it though.

You don't need the s-view cover to trick your phone that you have one and its closed
Take a magnetic off your fridge and pit it on the left side of the screen little less then half way down the phone

I'm all for this thread. I think an app with settings would be perfect to control what you see regarding notifications (enable email), and maybe to add more screens with widgets.

[Q] [HELP!] Have I damaged my screen?

Hey all,
I received received my LG Nexus 4. I don't know if I may have damaged my screen but hopefully you guys can help clear up my queries.
I've been trying on screen protectors and my case, I don't know if maybe I've damaged it. But, one thing that has lead me to believe this is when I start up Nexus 4, during the Google screen at the top right, there is a bit of light exposure.
Basically, I would assume that during the Google screen at boot up, the whole screen would be black right except where it says Google.
Mine has a bit of faint white light on the top right corner.
Could anyone help clarify this for me?
Appreciate it, thank you!
I'm assuming that on most Nexus 4's that around the Google logo at boot up it is pitch black. But, others with Nexus 4's please check on boot up at the Google screen around the top right edge, do you also have a white/faint tint in the corner?
Are there anyways to check this? That the touchscreen is still functioning in the corner? Am I worrying too much about it? Is there a way of testing the screen?
Is your case still on the device? I'm not sure which one you're using, but it's possible that it may be too tight for the Nexus 4, which is causing pinching of the touchscreen.
You're right, at boot, the screen should be pure black, save for the Google logo and that unlocked icon (for unlocked bootloaders).
You can check if it's still registering touch feedback by going to Settings > Developer options > Show touches. Then try touching that area and looking for a white circle. Or simpler, you can pull down the notification shade from the upper right edge.
If it's still in warranty, maybe you could have it returned too.

I'm using a Ringke Fusion case, it's brand new. This was yesterday I noticed this on the screen, I was a bit annoyed after wasting a couple of screen protectors getting it on, hopefully when I go home and look at it today it looks pure black but I doubt it. I will try out the methods recommended.
@mlag: Surely I couldn't have broken it? Everyday people must put these phones into there jeans or tight trousers and it must put some pressure on the screen. As I said yesterday I was a little frustrated after going through many screen protectors trying to get it on properly. Hopefully today when I switch it on when I go home it looks better.

So I've established that light bleeding on the Nexus 4 along the top of the screen is quite common. After reading from this thread below.

Now can anyone tell me how light bleeding is caused? I'd appreciate it, thanks!
Its the display itself when made, you can't cause your phone to get light bleed at least I don't think. I also have a little on the top right.

Thanks for your response mate in both threads, I read the other one and I agree with you. It doesn't bother me, it is only because I switched on the new phone yesterday I was just playing with it as I haven't got my new SIM to use it yet. And, I noticed at the top on the right there was a very faint light bleeding, it isn't that noticable.
I will carry on using it as it is.

There is a haptic feed back when you press softkeys. you might be pushing them.

When you mean vibration. Do you mean in your pocket? If you get the vibration/boom feeling then that the vibrating motor. Hope this helps.

it doesn't really vibrate but it kinda feels like its moving when tapped with your nails.
Yeah I have the same feeling, like its on "haptic Vibro" but thats not enabled, yet still feels like a slighter Vibrate when hitting some keys?
I think I know what he means...
Its not a feedback from the vibrator at all -- I sometimes tap on my Note when I'm listening to music, like I'm playing a drum solo with my fingers
There is a faint vibration when I do that.
I always assumed it was just one of the sensors vibrating in response to my enthusiastic taps. Who knows, the shock sensor, the vibrator itself?
Anyway, I don't think its anything wrong or broken.
I don't think there is a problem... it happened with my note 2, but always worked well and flawlessly
I get it occasionally and gave up with it.

Hi!
A lady friend of mine has this problem on a GSIII.
She broke her screen and since i had a GSIII with dead mainboard i moved her mainboard to the other phone. Main camera & all.
The phone now works perfectly but has accuired the "vibrate when tapping" issue.
Personally i´d say that the vibrating camera module is a solid bet. Production tolerances might be a little on the loose side in the new camera/screenframe combo and there is a short unsupported flex cable from main board to camera module.
If i understand this particular issue correctly you dropped your phone a while back. This just might have knocked the camera module a bit around so it now sits a smidgeon more loosely in the camera bay.
If it really bothers you, a solution could be to disassemble your phone and try thightening the tolerances in the camera mount by adding small pieces of e.g. sticky tape on sides or bottom. If nothing else you´d be able to confirm or discard the camera module as the "culprit".
Personally though i wouldn´t worry about it, as long as everything hums along nicely with this particular handset.

About the drop - oh yeah, you stated that earlier, my bad.
I´d leave it alone.
If the phone is still under warranty you could try taking it to a service center but then you´ll have to demonstrate there is an issue.
As everything works as it should that might be easier said than done.
