Anyone else notice screen Flicker when the display is on the lowest brightness setting? I am noticing it on the bottom half of the screen usually when the phone first goes into the dim setting (manually or automatically). After it is in the dimmest setting for a while, it eventually stops. Or, if i manually move the setting off the lowest setting by even the smallest amount it stops. I've been running SACS Rom nearly since I got the phone, but the flicker started about 3 versions ago. I'm thinking it may be a hardware issue.

Anyone else having this problem? I have my phone set to stay on while charging in developer options. However, when the phone isn't touched for a little bit the screen dims and flickers like crazy. As soon as I touch the screen, it comes back to regular brightness and the flicker is gone. Any idea what the problem is and how to resolve it? I leave my phone in a dock all day on my desk and the flickering is driving me insane. I'm on the original GS4, not rooted, latest KitKat installed.
So the issue got progressively worse and I am approaching my warranty date so I contacted Samsung and they had me do a cache partition wipe. So far so good. I see the issue only so faintly and I don't think I wouldn't notice if I wasn't looking for it. I will see if the problem returns and if so, have the phone swapped out. I don't want to be stuck with a potential dud after the warranty expires.
I've never experienced this with a TW stock rom(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2650706) with NAE baseband.

Hi,
So I literally picked my N7 up an hour ago, came home, got to the home screen. Played around with it and plugged it into my laptop. Suddenly, it looked like the screen turned off. After a bit of poking around, it turns out the screen isn't off, the brightness is just ridiculously low.
Using my Nexus One as a flashlight, I'm able to just about make out the contents of the screen. I've turned auto-brightness off and WiFi, but no cigar, the screen is still barely visible.
Is this defective hardware, or has a software update fixed this for anyone? I was prompted to install an update, but in my excitement, I dismissed it.
Feeling like this right now ->
silly question but have you tried turning the brightness up? not had any problems with the brightness of my screen. even at 10% the thing is quite readable.
I tried that, it didn't make a difference. I think it's a hardware problem since I did a factory reboot (took me 10 mins just to tap the right buttons) and still has the same problem. Ordered a replacement
Did you try checking, saving, and unchecking auto? Mine is set to the "darkest" but it's still very bright
I didn't tbh, it was too difficult to find the checkbox for it. Without my N1 camera flash, it looked like the screen was off, and even with flash, I was basically fumbling around and hoping I would hit the right option.
I tried a factory reboot and that didn't fix it. The first time I booted, it was fine, so I reckon hardware issue. I've ordered a replacement, hopefully this'll last longer than 5 minutes
Hi all,
I got my Nexus 7 from the Play Store a couple of months ago (one of the pre-orderers). The first time I turned it on, I noticed the screen slowly dimming and turning off during the boot animation. I would see the 'X' but it would slowly fade out, disappear totally and then reappear on full brightness. The screen then totally turned off after completing booting and I couldn't see anything. A couple of reboots later and the screen finally turned on which was great. The tablet would run anything perfectly after that except if I turned the brightness to the lowest setting which would cause the screen to turn off. This didn't bother me either since I always use it on full brightness anyway.
However, over the last couple of weeks I noticed the touchscreen becomes unresponsive after prolonged use. This made me decide to get it replaced. I called Google who said they would send me a replacement :victory:.
Here's the problem...Since I was rooted and running CWM recovery I decided to revert to the factory image for warranty purposes. So I reverted to stock and rebooted but I now have the same problem I had at the first boot. My screen won't turn on! I tried rebooting a couple of times to see if that would do it but it just happens everytime. The bootanimation completes and the screen just turns off. The problem is I can't relock my bootloader which is going to jeopardise my warranty IMO since my tablet is scheduled for return on the 12th of this month (10/12/2012).
Well finally could anyone please help? Has anyone had the same issue? What steps did you take?
Sorry for the long post. I'm just worried that I'm going to be stuck with the defective tablet which I worked hard to save the money for in the first place
BUMP. I really need any help I can get since i've got less than 48 hours to get it fully stock before the courier comes to pick it up for RMA.
Did you follow this guide to return to stock/relock the bootloader? I had this exact same problem and your best bet would be to get an RMA.
Actually I did perform all those steps but I just can't seem to enter the stock recovery. I just keep getting the Android with the red triangle. Thanks for the suggestion anyways. I'll give you a thanks just for that

Sounds to me as if your auto brightness is stuck....wake it up and shine a flashlight or something on the screen. If you can see your screen, go into settings and turn off your auto brightness.
Well I did what you said and guess what IT WORKED! Thanks a million. I'm really dumb for not having thought of that..

So Today I was just out with friends when I took my phone out and realized the display kept flashing , not like flashes of white but the display seemed like it the color in the screen kept flashing, I rebooted my phone and it kept doing the same thing. After the third reboot it was back to normal, My question is has anyone experienced this before?

I experienced the same thing a couple of days ago, luckily I haven't had problems since.
Try to turn off auto brightness and check again.
Are you using stock firmware/kernel or modded?

Bone stock, It seriously seemed like the Display was going to die. Right after it just blacked out.
This morning, when going to use my phone, I noticed a new issue. The screen would turn on, then after 3-4 seconds it would dim, and then a moment later, go black.
Obviously that is not in accordance with the screen timeout settings, or what I have experienced prior to today.
My first thought was that it must be a hardware problem. So I booted into TWRP to make a Nandroid backup. Thing is, in TWRP, the screen isn't timing out incorrectly, leaving me to believe it is a software problem.
Except that I am running the same Rom as I have been for quite a while (an older version of SACS_Custom), and I have installed no updates to it. And I have installed no new apps. To the extent that any apps have changed, it would be as a function of auto-update.
So, this leaves me with two questions:
1) What is causing this screen issue? Or at the very least, how can I isolate the source of the problem?
2) How can I fix this problem? Because right now, it is making my phone functionally unusable.
If it were me I would flash a new kernel, see if that fixed my problem @beerindex
I have always had a good experience using kt

hi guys, need help with following:
sometimes the screen flickers and stop responding overal....when he is in the mood. Sometimes works 2-3 hours with no problem and sometimes I cant use it at all - display is flickering and stop responding and if I lock the screen with power button and push the button again the screen is unfreezing for a while. I have tried everything- reinstal oficial ROM, root the phone and instal some custom ROMs, custom recovery, wipe and clean everything nothing helps. Мy suspicions are that there is some hardware problem and there is no software solution, but if someone has faced such troubles and find a way to resolve them pls share

it probably is a hardware issue, most likely the adreno GPU failing. Youve flashed the tar.md5 stock firmware and its still doing it? If so, its very likely a hardware issue

yep, I've flashed the original tar, also tried with 4 file with pit. Some time the phone starts flickers on the Samsung logo at the beginning, some time passes the logo and initial setup and then starts....maybe your are right, I just love my phone and didn't want to RIP him. The only thing I didn't try is to install something different than Marshmallow and to decrease working frequencies. Can you please tell me if the problem is form GPU is it worth to be fixed?
you could try a new battery , my S3 had screen flickering problems at aprox 30% battery and then freezes and reboot and battery after reboot suddenly 2% and after that screen flicker and no power anymore.
Try reboot with only charger connected and no battery connected
can't do that - the phone cannot be started without battery inside. Furthermore the battery is brand new original and I start using it after the problems started
You can look with phone info app from play store. Look which date the phone was made and when its more then 2 years then its hardware issue. On my display its only flickering on the very lowest brightness levels when i make it brighter the flickering is gone. When your phone is so too then its hardware issue but i will look with another battery from a friend and will report. I think its the display like plasma 1-2 years burn-in.

I had the same problem with screen flickering with my s5 (QCOM variant). It had started after screen replacement in a repair point. It would get the worst when screen brightess was at the minimum level. Sometimes the screen would not wake up, and low temperature/ low battery level made it even worse. The answer to the problem is a defective screen which needs replacing. No other way as far as I know.
the screen is flickering

I have the Samsung Galaxy S5. I also had the issue of when I had the screen brightness on auto it would flicker or if it was on a low setting it would do the same. If I raised the brightness it would stop. When the battery goes below 8% it starts flickering non-stop and the only way to stop it is to plug it in to an outlet. I took it to Verizon about 6 months ago (about the 2 1/2 year mark when it had been doing it since around 2 years) - of course their immediate answer was to do a factory reset and after that they had no solution (I did NOT do a factory reset). I'm eager to hear if a new battery corrects it or if it is indeed the screen/display. This may be a way to make sure we get a new phone every two years...
my case looks different. The flickering not depend form brightens or remaining charge in battery. Furthermore sometime it stops at all and I can use the phone without any problems for 1 or 2 hours. I did factory reset several time and reinstall software (official and custom). Perhaps there is some hardware issue and a phone upgrade is upcoming.
I tested with a battery from a friend yesterday and its the same. I will do this week a odin stock flash day and then i will see. But i think its the display.
