Huge differences in benchmarks - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I wonder how is it possible that there are such differences between units. I mean I have never managed to reach more than 31500, and I see that some people, usually reach 35000+.
How is it possible ?

I don't know about everyone else, but I get better benchmarks running stock odexed vs deodexed roms.

Download trickster mod from playstore, change your governor to Performance. Put your phone in the freezer for about 10 mins, then run your Antutu test...you should get 35k+. My average score is 36k+ with a high of 37.6k. Im on pure stock with a few Xposed tweaks.

I assume that could be a good trick, except that you have to be root and I don't want that. Plus, I am sure that people who get such high scores, are mostly full stock. That's why I wonder.

Here it is how is it possible ? Really I don't see. Do you get this each time you run a benchmark ?
Maybe it is related to the fact that your phone is not the same as mine (I own a D802 from France) ?

just ran it on my stock rooted. 33.7k

Here is mine, stock and unrooted.

What do you consider full stock? Because Im full stock just rooted. Also before I even rooted my phone I was able to get 35k+ just from the freezer trick.

Full-stock meant without anything non-genuine. Root included. Or with root but without any tweaks. Because, I don't see why being root could improve the results. Except if Antutu is able to alter the governor settings, while running ...
But from what you tell me, how can you get these scores and not me ?

Totally stock with no tricks involved.

34324 in Antutu.
That's after 1,30h of web browsing....

All your benchmarks just confirm the fact that I don't understand such differences. The only difference I see, is that this is not the same models than mine.

Like I said, I still scored 35k+ with just the freezer trick before I even rooted my phone. Just out of curiousity to see what a pure stock score what be. Only differences I see that would make a difference are the Carrier model. I have Sprint LS980 by the way.

My Quadrant is around 20k ish, but I only ran it a couple times. I dont really put much stock in Quadrant since it hasnt been updated in forever.

For all the people complaining about bad scores, make sure your phone is completely cool before doing a benchmark. If you don't you'll get thermal throttling and you will get lower results.

True that. But I have tested at different times, when it was empty or just reset to factory. I still get the same results. And by the way I have disabled thermal throttling.

I see thanks guys. haha because seeing the phone at the bottom of the ranking feels kinda crappy. how does the lagfix work? i read the threads but they seem to screw up the phone in certain ways

There's loads of "lag fixes" out there, designed to speed up the phone from perceived laginess. Some seem to do nothing more than inflate test score numbers (like Quadrant).
Do not worry about the score of one application. The true tests lie within the hands of the user. Are you happy with the phone? If not, then maybe it's time to upgrade to froyo, or a custom cooked ROM of Froyo.

Best Before Date

my Atrix was flying before i had to send it in for warranty work a few weeks back. (digitizer) Antutu scores around 7000. the rest of the benchmark tests where pretty high also. When it was returned i immediately unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. Now my scores from Antutu are 4500 at best. I am using the exact same rom (Neutrino), and kernel (Faux123) as before. I have tried other roms (cm7 nightlies) reinstalled and full fastboot wipe many times but still the same outcome. The only difference i can see is that i used an different method to unlock the bootloader and root the second time around. Do you think the some of the permission where affected differently the second time around. Am i just overlooking something?

Is the phone actually slower? Or just scoring lower scores?

the phone actually feels slower. more laggy when it comes to videos, games, scrolling through menus. my fps scores are all lower across the board in any benckmark. yes i know they mean nothing but when the scores are that drastically effected there is an issue i believe.

I have heard that refurbished phones USUALLY don't perform as well as the brand new ones do. Here is my example, a refurbished Atrix I read from some users can't even sometimes boot a custom kernel when the custom kernel is around 1.45 to 1.6. For example the one kernel that the dev clemsyn. I saw a FEW mention that when they said they had a refurbished Atrix.

There is a "Boost.sh" script included with Neutrino (I believe in /system/etc) that Notorious recommends be run when you get that "not so fresh" feeling. It is a defrag tool that can be assigned to a widget and should be run every so often.
Also, you will want to see if "Nitrocharger.sh" in the same directory is running as Root at Boot. I have seen big improvements by implementing this.
Both of these scripts came with the ROM, so hopefully you have fast access to them. Good luck to you!
thanks for the info fellow xdaers,,,,,

Actually I had the opposite experience. My original phone wouldn't boot with the clemsyn kernel. My digitizer bombed and I received a refurbished unit from repairs. The new unit runs the clemsyn kernel just fine. So I guess it's just the luck of the draw...

As tob said, those "so verry little script" can makes big differences sometimes
I would like to add my personal toughts, for me, the ROM actually scoring higher and higher and feel a litle bit more freshier each week past within the ROM... so my thoughts would be, the cache partition, the more longer the rom is implemented, the more score you'll get cause the cache slowly become bigger and bigger giving you full power to open something tough!
As for the battery, from my experiences, you can't really judge a battery life while you just flashed a rom, you got to wait until the first week to see if there a big changes between the other ROM you came from ... so my guess would be, those scripts and the longer the ROM is implemented on your phone, the more fast and stable it will get, and you will feel the power slowly coming out again!
My bad if I'm completely wrong, but it is my guess!
Hood luck with your "new" phone
i brought up some old Antutu scores and notice that my ram. cpu integar and floating point scores are extremely low. i have tried multiple kernels but still no change. now i am even more confused......doesn't take much. could it be that my cpu is locked so i can not overclock. it kinda feels like its only utilizing one core.
after weeks of exhaustive searching i finally found a fix that worked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131649
pdsfix.zip
now my antutu scores are back up to around 7000. less lag in app drawer and opening /closing certain app. its back to silky smooth yeehaw.

Low benchmarks on my Nexus 4

Okay, heres the deal, When I first got my Nexus I used to get benchmark scores of the range 17-18k in Antutu, but recently, since I've tried benchmarking, I've been getting scores of only 10k, on Paranoid android 3.15, PAC, and Xylon ROMs, all with the franco kernel r134. So today I decided to flash a stock, deodexed rom, my benchmarks improved, but only by about 4k, I'm getting about 14k consistently. When I checked benchmark threads people have been getting 18-19k on stock ROMs, any suggestions on how to get that kind of performance on my Nexus?
Probably not what you want to hear but my suggestion is to stop caring so much about what numbers some app spews out and just look at how well your phone performs in day-to-day usage. If I somehow managed to get a score of 20K on my HD2, that wouldn't make it a better phone in any way.

True, but it's just annoying to see that it used to give better results about a month ago and now they are pretty crappy. I mean, even after overclocking to 1700 I couldn't get it to go over 12k.

It was just a little warm at the end of the test, not much, all the settings were default, and I had killed all the apps before running the test.
Try rasabear ROM.. Let the phone cool off and run it.. Should get 17+

Everyone does. Basically, less 'cheating' is being done now by the phones. The scores on 4.4.2 are real scores without forced overclocking and such.
Or at least that is my understanding of it all. So no reason to worry.

I always thought this phone would score a fair bit higher than the S4
I should mention that I'm not rooted, just on stock.
Also there is a listing for the LG G2 that is a lot higher :/
See attached picture.
Still love this phone regardless

That could be a G2 that is on 4.2.2 or is overclocked, so don't read into that.
Samsung were called out for 'cheating' in benchmarks. Their phones automatically overclocked beyond the normal customer accessible levels basically when a test was run, to give the fake impression they were super powerful. So now manufacturers are stopping their cheating.

thats crazy... but the s7 doesn't even throttle it maintains low temps all the way through the benchmark does it not?
I put it in freezer and my score doesn't even budge.
Here are a few tests from my stock U model. These were ran with the phone unplugged and without clearing memory or anything like that. So a real world scenario basically. One is AnTuTu, the other is 3Dmark Slingshot using ES 3.1

I won't pretend to know why I am getting such good scores. I just tried colder conditions, and a cleaner stock rom.
The U firmware is so much better than what mine came with from ATT...
