Any suggestions on how to adjust the display colors on the V500?
I feel that the bluish tint is a bit to much on the tablet
Thanks!

Lucky! I wish mine had a bluish tent... Wanna Trade? Lol (I much prefer blue for some odd reason) mine has a yellow tent (warmer) to It, I use the root app called trickster to a just it. You will need to change the cpu governor to performance but it works.

lol .. didn't know there's such variability in the device (that's not good). I haven't rooted mine yet, but will probably do so very soon to get this app (and many others!). Thanks for the tip!
Also there an app called screen adjuster in the play store that works well. What's funny is mine had the yellow tint and changing ROMs made a huge difference

Screen Adjuster does the magic on Asus Memo Pad FHD too.
The screen is too "dirty" (brownish) even turn the Splendid to -10. However, with the combo with Splendid (-5 in white level and +3 on color depth) and Screen Adjuster (+2, 0, +12), problem fixed.
On top of that, you don't need root to make it work.
Frankly, Android should have RGB and Gamma tuning in Developers section (like Windows) to let users to fine tune white balance.

Installed Screen Adjuster, setting put to +2, 0, +12. What about this part on Splendid (-5 in white level and +3 on color depth)... Can't find any setting for this. Please advise.
Found the settings of +2,0,+12 to really help with that yellowish tint. It looks much closer to my G2 screen now. Thanks.

Actually, color temperature is more accurate on the gpad (6153k) than on the g2 (7092k). Your screen has to be calibrate close to 6500k to display a perfect white. 7000 is too cold as most lcd outhere, your eyes are accustomed to see bluish colors on your TV and your other devices.
The main issue on the gpad calibration is the gamma setting as shadows tends to be too dark. Set contrast on -25 with screen adjuster will reveals a lot of details in the dark areas of a picture.

Thanks a lot!
That configuration gave me a real natural look and nice whitey whites.
I was using 0,0,14 before (as I thought red adds up to the yellow) and it gave me a too bluey look.
Now it's perfect!
Most of the gripes I've seen on xda with the non-GPE version are around a yellowish screen and the brightness is too low.

The OLED screen on the GS3 is incredible because of it's intense contrast and instant refresh time, but there a many things wrong with it out of the box, and only because Samsung marketing is driving the settings for it....
The color gamut is too high. It looks good in the store but makes the colors look cartoony, and can decrease lifetime of the display. Is there something that can get it closer to the sRGB gamut used by Android? (90-110% of the gamut)
The autobrightness is very poor in this case, as it does not go low enough in the dark, and does not go high enough in the sun. Has anyone made a mod that has proper autobrightness values, with some middle values turned slightly lower for battery savings?
The white point is very very blue! This makes the display look more white, but this is actually very bad for the display. Since the reason why Samsung needed to have PenTile is because blue pixels die quickly, why is the white so blue? Is there some way to make it properly white (daylight, about 6500k?), in order for better color accuracy and to preserve display lifespan?
At some point, supercurio released a voodoo screen application, but since then I have not seen any sort of application that can properly calibrate the screen...
My cousin has one and it is not like that.. I would return it

Samsung anything with a screen is this way. Just go look at this TV, they are bluer than anybody else's. They look good in the bright showroom but in your actual house? Not so much unless you just love blue.
I am guessing a fix can happen in aosp/aokp where they have the screen calibration options.

As far as TV's go, those are way more easy to tweak display settings on than a phone display. I agree that a showroom Samsung is really really blue, but that is easily fixed in the color settings.

There is a forced level of blue in the service menu you cannot change without proper calibration equipment.
That is beside the point though. I know CM7 had a calibration setting. Does CM9/AOKP have this still? I haven't had a device that could run AOSP in a long time sadly.

And if anyone has, can you tell us A: what parameters it actually lets you change, B: do these changes apply universally or only in certain apps, and C: if this is actually supposed to affect the physical properties of the display in some way (in the way that the contrast control on an LCD TV might), or if it's just doing a Bravia-like trick and messing around with the pixel values?

Like make a screenshot with unaltered settings then next is try to adjust it and let us see how big is the difference.
I repeat my earlier question: does anyone know what this software actually does? For example, suppose I'm looking at a screen full of white pixels (red 255, green 255, blue 255), and I've used the software to push the white balance towards red; what does that do? Does it actually change the physical display characteristics of the screen, so I'm now still looking at pixels that are red 255, green 255, blue 255, but the screen has changed the way those RGB values are displayed, (i.e. red 255 is now brighter than it was and blue 255 dimmer); or is it simply hacking what is sent to the screen so that what was originally r255g255b255 is now r255g240b220 (or whatever)? And does this apply universally, or is it a subset of Bravia? And is there anything that can be tweaked other than the three controls we've seen in the screenshot?

During the day it is not noticeable but in pitch black you can see a strange dark red glow in black areas.

To see the red blacks you have to be in a very dark room. Mine has it too.
The only thing I dont like about the screen is that Samsung seems to have omitted the antireflective/oleophobic coating around the menu and back buttons, making fingerprints on the buttons stand out

I haven't received the z3c yet but wanted to start theis thread early so everyone can post what display setting there using and any issue on the display. This is from the phone areana review.
" Color accuracy is way off on the Xperia Z3 Compact. Sony has gone purposefully with a colder, noticeably bluish display with color temperature reaching the whopping 10000K (while 6500K is the reference value, and everything above it is cold). Color balance in greyscale is noticeably skewed towards the blue across all brightness levels. Color purists have the option to adjust color balance with separate controls for red, green, and blue. With some fiddling (you’d need to add in a lot more red, and a bit more green to get to more balanced colors,*we tweaked it to the following values: red ~ 250, green ~ 190, blue ~ 0), you can get to the point where colors are not outrageously blue, but getting this right is no trivial task and requires either a trained eye, or a colorimeter."

It's great that we have white balance settings, but the only thing I don't like about it is that it decreases screen brightness when applied.

If anyone has a colorimeter at hand it would be greatly received if they could perform some tests and provide the optimum RGB values.

No - I'm no color purist, but the extreme blue tint was very obvious and off-putting. Very puzzling choice on Sony's part, it makes the screen look really bad.
I turned off X-Reality and put it side-by-side with my Moto G and adjusted the sliders until it more or less matched my Moto G. I'm still fiddling with it, but right now I have it set to Red 120, Green 145, Blue 0.
Doesn't the display get significantly darker when using high values for white balance?
Leaving XReality on - I like R:20, G:20, B:0. Just warms things up a tad without overdoing it.
So is everyone experiencing the same blueish tint?

A little bit, I guess? It's still more than readable for me in sunlight, and I'm using Red 120 + Green 145.
I've been using Red 40 + Green 73. No "Image Enhancements"... my reality is enhanced enough, thank you. It does *appear* dimmer, but I'm going to assume that's a physiological color perception issue. You can increase the brightness of the display while keeping the ambient light sensor on, which is a nice feature. Also, the screen can still get blisteringly, stupidly bright if you disable the sensor and crank it all the way up, even with those settings.
I have a colorimeter, and I know that the diagnostics menu lets you do a series of display tests (including flipping to red/green/blue). Does anybody know if those panels apply your color balance settings? Or, alternatively, a good (preferably free) Android app to help with calibration?
Also, seriously, WTF Sony. The displays look almost comically bad straight out of the box. I feel bad for every user who buys the phone and never delves into these settings. :|

As far as I'm aware, the reason why Sony's white balance option makes the screen appear dimmer is because it's not really a true white balance option, but rather a sort of workaround where it adds a coloured transparent overlay to the screen. Higher values mean that the overlay becomes less transparent so the colour overlay will appear more intense while making the screen appear dimmer consequently. There are third party white balance apps in the Play Store which have exactly the same effect, although those also add a bit of lagginess to everything. But the colour and dimming effect is the same.

Huh. I mean, I use Twilight (basically the Android version of f.lux) on my Nexus 5, and have never noticed lag issues. It is *definitely* an overlay, though. That's very surprising that Sony would use such a method, as they actually have access to the actual firmware. You would think, as such, that it would allow you to use ICC color profiles.

Ah, no, I meant apps to correct the white balance, not colour measuring apps. I used to try one of such apps on my old xperia tablet s because its display had a noticeable yellow hue. It did make the colours better, albeit a little dimmer, but everything seemed to be laggy/choppy when the effect was applied.
