[Q] Easy franco kernel question! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically, I'm thinking of buying franco's app/or faux's app (haven't decided on which one yet), what I needed to know was can I use that for other kernels?
P.S. Stick to the question, don't answer trickster mod, I know what it is. The question is specific enough, if that kernel allows, can I use this app for changing some settings of that kernel?

Yes! Franco's and Faux's kernel enhancement apps work for ALL kernels. I've personally tested both of them on Faux's, Franco's, AK, Bricked etc kernels.

Help! problem with Trinity kernel

My nexus 7 is rebooting after a while using trinity kernel. I'm in stock 4.2.1 and I had random reboots even when no it applying any kind of OC just the kernel's default settings! What can I do to prevent that from happening?
Flash a different kernel.
Not all tablets are created equal. Whereas one will play nice with a particular kernel, the very next one off the assembly line may not.

I flashed motley kernel without any oc and I still get random reboots. Should I go back to stock kernel?

i bet its an app causing it.
Don't know why I initially glanced over you being on 4.2.1. Random reboots are actually a known issue with 4.2.x due to a problem at the OS level. Essentially, anything that uses geolocation can inadvertently trigger a reboot. Apps such as HD Widgets have updated to use a workaround until Google themselves fixes the issue. In the meantime, the only certain way to avoid the reboots is to turn off location services or downgrade to 4.1.2.
Unfortunately, this bug isn't consistently reproducible, but it does affect the entire Nexus line of devices using 4.2 and 4.2.1.

Thanks buddy, with motley kernel I've just had 1 reboot. I'm going to test turning location services off and see what happens. BTW any idea how to oc the GPU in motley kernel? in trickster mod there's no option for it.

is ocing the gpu enabled in motley kernel? it has to be a feature of the kernel to be able to do it, an app cant do it if the kernel doesnt include the mod.

According to the kernels features, it supports GPU oc

the kernel might use a different method than the one the app "knows". for an example, cm color control with trinity kernel on the gnex. both cm and trinity have color control enabled, but since cm uses a different method of color control, you cant use the native cm rom color control option with trinity kernel, nor can you use the trinity kernel toolbox to control color on a cm rom/kernel. as they say, theres more than one way to skin a cat.

honestly i dont, id assume that motley used francos method since thats the most popular way. you should probably ask in the motley thread. but for some reason, i dont think it does, not the 4.2.1 kernel at least. maybe he just didnt update his op to reflext this. ask in the thread anyways

[Req] CM kernel with UV

Hi there,
Im searching for the CM kernel with the ability to undervolt as a kind of add in it?
Is such a kernel available? Can anyone build such a kernel?
Thx
Cm is just stock kernel. Faux made an enhanced stock kernel with undervolt and gamma control http://faux.androidro.ms/mako/mako-jb-enhanced_stock_422_r2.zip

Re,
Yes, maybe, there is a lot of good feedback
But I don't use it so I can't really comment, I just read the thread. You have, like said above an enhanced stock kernel with undervolt and 2 other features, nothing more. And you have the custom kernel with overclock CPU / GPU, you can change vibration, I/O scheduler, TCP congestion, etc...
Read the OP for more informations and give it a try

i dont think they built in the ability to adjust voltage. but, since its open source, anyone can build tbe kernel from cm source and add the ability to change voltages.

Incorrect. CM barely touches the kernel as is, but the MAKO developer (his name escapes me) is even more conservative than that. It is nearly stock.

give it time
cm kernels come with everything there is and are often highly modified by the end of a device's life cycle
if this dev is conservative, ok, then it might take longer or until some new kid takes over.
just don't say cm barely touches kernels

there are many other kernels, better than cm kernel, that offer the ability to adjust voltages. theres trinity kernel, franco kernel, faux..

Wrong! Try Harsh. It's flash it and leave it. Very good kernel. Highly recommended. Supports UV and uses mpdecision.

both trinity and franco kernels are also cleaned up so theres no bloating. trinity is one of the least bloated kernels as it doesnt include any of the normal "buzzword" additions, only what is needed, highly optimized, debugging removed, "bull**** free" as it states in its op.

Faux got enhanced stock kernel not moded alot. Just some unlocks and fixes. Maybe try this one. Im already on enhanced and its stable plus you got gamma unlocked.

Flash a kernel that supports overclocking.
Use a kernel that supports overclocking, such as Faux kernel, Trinity, Neo and etc. After flashing the kernel, use an app to change the frequencies and such. I use tricksters mod + Trinity kernel. Hope this helped
Ok perfect. Anybody can pass me the right kernel for my rom ?

there is no right kernel, thats for you to decide. every device will react differently, and you will use your device completely differently than anybody else, so only you will have the right answer. try them all

Apps for controlling kernel?

Is there any apps that can control the kernel? For example, the faux clock app or the franco kernel control app.
On the other hand, can I use fauxclock app / franco kernel app, to control kernel other than faux/franco kernel? As some of the kernel doesn't provide a specific controlling app. Is there any apps that ae universal, which can control all kinds of kernel? As I am a noobs, I don't know how to dig into the codes.

Trickster Mod is a great kernel control app!
Yeah, Trickster will let you control most aspects of custom kernels. Each kernel may have unique features that Trickster can't control, where you'll have to use a specific kernel app. But for trying different kernels and find what suits you best, Trickster is definitely the way to go.

I seem to remember that Semaphore by stratosk has its own app, as does Trinity from morphic - those are the ones I can think of right now...
Franco has its own application which allows customization of the kernel and also downloading of latest nightly or stable version.
It's the Franco kernel updater.

What's the best kernel app for stock 6p Kernel?

Can anyone advise the best app to adjust settings on the 6p stock kernel? I am using kernal auditor and it seems to work ok. From the app store comments, it looks like Trickster doesn't work well with the 6p? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Any/all should have the same feature set more or less in the stock kernel. I prefer ElementalX and Kernel Aduiter
