Use the builds for MB526. Since we have 2ndboot there are no more separate builds.

Defy MB525 and cm11? Which steps to do?
I am lost too,
I put CM9 on my Defy (MB525) and I got first a blue, then a green LED after boot.
I would love to update the new CM11 but using the following link I dont know what to choose, because I have no MB526
http://defy.bytekiste.de/ on the page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515036
1.)
The cm10-2ndboot-nightly-defy(+) is the only with "+" in brackets "()". Which can I choose?
The last update is: "cm11-nightly-defy+/" but it says only "defy+", not "defy(+)
Options are:
[DIR] aosp-4.4-nightly-defy+-3.0Kernel/ 10-Nov-2013 21:53 -
[DIR] aosp-4.4-nightly-defy+/ 10-Nov-2013 18:50 -
[DIR] cm10-2ndboot-nightly-defy(+)/ 30-Oct-2013 15:07 -
[DIR] cm10.2-nightly-defy+/ 30-Oct-2013 17:31 -
[DIR] cm11-nightly-defy+/ 10-Dec-2013 14:50 -
[DIR] cm11-nightly-defy+3.0Kernel/ 23-Nov-2013 18:41 -
[DIR] cm11-nightly-kobe+3.0Kernel/ 20-Nov-2013 22:12 -
[DIR] cm11-nightly-kobe/ 10-Dec-2013 15:58 -
2.) What do I have to do to make it work?
Only:
- place file on SD card
- boot into recovery -> custom recovery ("ICS Recovery v5.7.0")
- Install zip from sdcard (and choose the one file from question 1.) above?)
3.) Do I need the update-recovery.zip too?
4.) How do I get back to my actual state of phone? Can I just use the NANDROID-Backup (now: "Backup and restore" -> "Backup (all)", when I want to get back: "Backup and restore" -> "Restore System & Data"?)
I tried to ask in way that it helps others too who want to install the newest developments of quarks and co.
Thanks to quarks and all the others in this forum!

thank you for you answer.
i bricked my phone, so i first reinstalled an original deblured rom. then i rooted, used 2ndinit and the zip file you linked me. it's awesome, i succeeded installing the new kitkat rom. and i intalled gapps for kitkat.
now there is a new problem, i can't activate wifi. i installed cm-11-20131210-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip, the latest rom, however, i can't scroll the upper part where there are the settings and parameters such as light, gps or wifi.
should i reinstall the rom?
by the way, i'm amazed to see that camera can film in 720p. i thought it was impossible for green lenses. it's a good surprise:laugh:.

1) Everytime you see a mb526/defy+ rom it means it's also for mb525/defy. You could flash every rom from there (except the kobe builds)
Get the latest build from the cm11-nightly-defy+ dir if you want cyanogenmod 11 (android 4.4)
there's also cm11-nightly-defy+3.0Kernel which is based on the newer 3.0 kernel, not stable at all.
2) If you come from cm9: flash update-recovery.zip -> reboot -> full wipe/ or flash safewipe.zip -> flash cm11.
3) Yes, any other recovery won't work
4) Yes, you can downgrade if you want.

Try activating it from the toggles in the notification bar.

Nope, there is no toggle in the activation bar. i installed kitkat without any trouble on galaxy s, but it seem to be a little tricky on defy. the only thing i can do since there is no toggle, is going in parameters, then check wifi. it tells me it is preparing the connection, but after on hour or so, still the same even after a soft reboot.
i assume i made something wrong if i'm the only one without wifi.

finally it works. i wiped cache and data again and i installed the rom without gapps. wifi is active. i assume may gapps were interfering. it's a little weird since i uses gapps suitable for kk.
anyway, thank you ell for your help especially cyrusct82

Hi everyone and thanks for you help by now. My defy is still on CM9 because I does not work out
- i booted into Bootmenu v2.1-beta

--- Apply update from sdcard
--- Install zip from sdcard
--- Backup and restore -> Restore (System & data)
but my defy says when doing "Apply update from sdcard"
#########
Installing /sdcard/clockworkmod/update-recovery.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /sdcard/clockworkmod/update-recovery.zip

What do I do wrong?
I also read: the answer of "cyrusct82"
Should I go that way? How to? you posted a link "Use this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=48501247"
How do I install that one? Is the following way correct?

Flash this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48501247&postcount=1250 and then flash kitkat.

got it. You have to flash this zip: http://d-h.st/dWr it's my fault, the steps i told you were wrong because to flash update-recovery.zip you need at least the recovery that comes with cm10 (twrp 3.6.0.0). And i don't know why, i thinked it was ok also the one that comes with cm9 so just flash this http://d-h.st/dWr (which allows to install the new recovery from an old one) -> and 4.4

check! I am on CM11! thanks to everyone
I had a CM9 device and now I am in CM 11. My steps were:
> I reboot into recovery
> installed „defy_twrp_recovery_2.6.3.0.zip“ (thx for the Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48501247&postcount=1250 )
> reboot into recovery again
> installed cm-11-20131210-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515036 the first Link via bytekiste)
> Factory Reset into the recovery
> rebooted into CM11 (it works!!!!! thx to everyone!!)
> rebooted into recovery again, installed GAPPS (12-14_Gapps_Core_4.4.2_signed.zip that cyrusct82 provided with the Link http___www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319195954 )

I used the thanks-Button already!
Good to know that there are great members who make it work!
Thanks everyone! Also quarks who prepared this Nightly Build of CM11!
I still have my old clockworkmod NANDROID Backup of CM9. Can ich make a new one now of CM 11 within TWRP and switch with TWRP between these 2 backups?

Happy that it worked. To your question: Yes and no. You could switch to cm9 restoring the backup. But when you are on cm9 you come back with the old recovery so you have to flash again the zip and then with the new recovery you can restore the cm11's backup. Hope i helped you

*Can do a CWM backup here [(Backup and restore -> Backup) NOTE: When restoring backup you must first flash a stock from (2.2/2.1 if the back up was done on either, and 2.3 if it was done on 2.3) as it doesnt backup the kernel]
To upgrade to nightly or from rc1 to rc1.5:
1. Download update and copy to sd
2. Go to bood menu -> recovery -> Custom recovery -> wipe cache and dalvik cache (in advanced) Install zip file from sd card(select the zip file you copied to sd card) thats it.

[HOW TO] Install CM9/CM10 on GB 2.3.6 LATAM (R01 and R02 firmwares)

DISCLAIMER!!!
THIS TUTORIAL IS INTENDED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FLASHED THE LATAM GINGERBREAD 2.3.6 VERSION WHICH ARE R01 AND R02, SUCH AS RETAIL LATAM, PERSONAL, CLARO, MOVISTAR AND VIVO
If you come from a different firmware this tutorial may not be entirely useful because the root method may vary and if you come from froyo you may need to use CH version for CM9, and flash a GB kernel for CM10... but that's not the point of this thread, go to the ROM's thread and READ the OP before asking dumb questions!

ROOT your phone (Check nicofff's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750277)
Download and install Droid2Bootstrap (see attachments or http://www.mediafire.com/?rbie0acs53rdfwc)
Download bootmenu1.1.0 and put it on your SD Card (see attachments or http://www.mediafire.com/?lh61gvslph4x4sv)
For CM9 download latest European GB Kernel version this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623385 and latest ICS gapps from http://goo.im/gapps/ and put both zips on your SD Card
For CM10 download latest version from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827801 and latest JB gapps from http://goo.im/gapps/ and put both zips on your SD Card
Open Droid2Bootstrap and grant it root permission
Hit "Bootstrap Recovery" You'll see a pop-up telling you "SUCCESS!"
Hit "Reboot Recovery" and your phone will reboot and enter on custom recovery
Select "Install zip from sd card" and then choose the bootmenu1.1.0.zip (use slider keyboard arrow keys to move, and "OK" button to select)
Reboot
When booting, the led will turn blue, press both volume buttons to enter bootmenu
In the bootmenu, go to "Recovery" > "Custom Recovery" (use volume buttons to move, power button to select)

Go to "Advanced"
Select "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and "Wipe Battery Stats"
Go back and select "Install zip from sd card" and then choose the CyanogenMod zip file (CM9 or CM10)
Do the same for gapps: Choose gapps-ics-xxxxx.zip for CM9 and gapps-jb-xxxxx.zip for CM10
Reboot
Be happy
You should be booting into CyanogenMod now!
If your signal is not working try installing the MS2Toolbox (see attachments or http://www.mediafire.com/?k3h8vpcj6b2it0e) and then go to Baseband Switcher and choose your right band and then reboot, you might need to try more than once, but this tool will get your signal up

THANKS! It was really helpful as I find it a bit difficult to install a custom ROM after getting root following nicofff procedure. Don't know why, but installing a zip the usual way didn't work. Then I followed your instructions and it worked like a charm.
Thanks that was almost too easy
I was already rooted before but did not dare the Cyanomod mainly to their alpha (still?) status, but when I heard about the feature that volume rocking allows skipping to the next song, I knew that I was doomed !
EDIT: BTW found it very stable after 1 day of extensive trial. I am really impressed !
Love this :good::good::good:
Hi,
first of all, thanks for this howto!
I am however getting problems. Coming from Brazilian VIVO 2.3.6. I succesfully completed all steps, until I get to rebooting after installing the bootmenu file. When I do a normal reboot, my phone's just rebooting into VIVO. When I choose to reboot recovery then I get an triangle image. When I push both volume rockers, I'm getting in another recovery menu. When I apply CM9 update, it will not verify.. That is where I'm stuck. Am I doing something wrong here?
SOLVED:
When you've installed bootmenu 1.1.0, it is possible that it does not load the first reboot. Just let it reboot normally, than reboot again! Now it worked!
thanks!
This is great! :good:
Few days ago I was looking for something like this but just can't find.
I experimented myself and got CM9 working on my phone.
(Took quite a lot of time waiting booting)
Thank god i did not brick my phone.
This will be great helpful to those who would like to try CM9.
Quick question - does this work with UK stock kernel?
Or does this require a specific kernel.

To update CMx roms from another version of the same branch (ie : a 7 to a 7, a 9 to a 9 and so on) you only need to :
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- wipe battery stats (optional, it's just to get more accurate battery duration)

I haven't had any problems with latest ICS gapps, are you sure you flashed ICS gapps? Anyway you should always do at least wipe cache and dalvik cache, it's best if you do full wipes AFTER flashing gapps
Swype keyboard is not included in CM9... you can get it from beta.swype.com

(b) Choose "Wipe Data/Cache" option. Let finish--->
5. Choose Install zip from SD Card, select WajkIUI_multilang .zip and let it finish.
6. select "Wipe Cache" then go to Advanced and select "Wipe Dalvik Cache". Reboot Now!
(If you are stuck on boot (Motorola logo), do 4th and 6th point again.)
7. After boot, set your prefered language in Settings menu
8. Done! Recommend: use Battery Calibration for maximum battery.
Anyone having installed WIUI on a device similar to mine and having faced the same confusion as me, willing to help ?

ps: I have encountered only one thread where such a problem is described and that person went the CM way rather than continue with WIUI. So if I have missed any thread detailing this problem and the solution please point me to it. Thanks

Hello
I tried to install the WIUI rom - Stable GB+version - for Defy Plus ( my device is BL7 Android 2.3.6) today and encountered a discrepancy in the install guide pasted below.
1. Download 2ndinit 1.4.2-----> DONE
2. install 2ndinit (Important!:following the instructions)--->DONE
3. Boot into bootmenu by pressing volume down when device flashes a blue led at bootup. Set default boot mode to 2nd init.-----> DONE
4. (a) Select Recovery/Stable Recovery. ---->There is no such option available. The available options are :
1. Custom Recovery, &
2. Stock Recovery

chose custom recovery and follow next steps.
Unsuccessful attempt
Method Followed: As indicated in WIUI Rom thread.
First discrepancy:
Select Recovery/Stable Recovery. ---->There is no such option available. The available options are :
1. Custom Recovery, &
2. Stock Recovery
So I chose Custom Recovery
Then again instructions followed per the thread:
Wipe Data stage
Message from install utility:
*Data wipe complete
*E: can't open /tmp/recovery.log
Wipe Cache Stage
Message from install utility:
*Cache Wipe complete
*E: can't open /tmp/recovery.log
Install Zip from SD Card
Selected Wajkui_Multilang*.*
Message from install utility:
*Finding Update Package
*Opening Update Package
*Installing Update Package
*E: Can't make /tmp/update.binary
*Installation aborted
Now the question needs to be answered is:
Was there a problem in the way I followed the instructions , if so what?
If the answer to the above is No based upon the record of the install/flash process listed above:
Why did the install abort?
Is the install procedure method listed on the ROM thread NOT suitable for Defy Plus BL7 Android version 2.3.6 devices which have been rooted using the procedure listed over here------>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542956
I too have a MB526 with BL7 and rooted the same way. I am running WajkIUI 2.5.27 successfully. All the steps are mentioned correct. Choose Custom Recovery and you'll have the option of Stable Recovery within that.
Just re-download the ROM file. IT might be that your ZIP is corrupt.

I tried to see if there is a sub-option titled Stable Recovery within Custom REcovery. No such option. Please confirm you are using 2ndinit 1.4.2.
I checked the zip file using Winzip. It is not corrupt.
No brother! You are to use ver 2.3.
My file name reads as 'SndInitDefy_2.3'. Attached is the APK for you!

Thanks once again for your help. I too had downloaded ver 2.3 to start with but after going through the install guide went for the lower version. Will test it out and see if I succeed.
Just saw your initial thread when you ventured out to root your phone and flash it. You mention you installed CM10 and liked it. So did you switch to WIUI and if so why? Which in your opinion is a better build in terms of stability?

You must use the "manage app" options to uninstall any app including 2ndinit.
Yes I did install CM10 to begin with. Heck, I had bought Defy+ only with the intent of flashing a good JB ROM on it.
However, there was quite a bit of lag (especially when the call comes in, or when you launch the dialer, or while playing games like Temple Run etc). The battery life was pathetic and it didnt suit as a daily build.
I stumbled upon WajkIUI and thought of giving it a try. Boy, what a fabulous ROM it is. You don't even feel the need for JB. This ROM is super smooth, fast, stable and what have you. No FC or restart at all. I simply loved it from the first day.

Hello
It worked. All thanks to you, as I had given up.Also initial impressions confirm your view of the WIUI Rom. However there is no Stable Recovery
option in Recovery during the install process. A couple of small niggles but more or less everything is functional as it should be .
If you think it proper, you could compile a comprehensive guide and post it. It will be a boon for all Defy Plus users whose devices are similar to your and mine and intend to ROOT &/or flash WIUI. I was fortunate that you chanced upon my thread and therefore I could solve the problem, but a guide would ensure your knowledge will be available to any one who is searching to go down this route.

I found the same error while installing the PVL Stock Rom for defy plus. After rebooting, i was back on my stock rooted rom, with all the apps missing including sndinitdefy. But the clockworkmod is still accessible. So if i install the new version of sndinitdefy, will it automatically replace the clockwordmod associated with it? Thanks for your reply!

Because you want to install the 4.3 is necessary to format data (do a factory reset) BEFORE! That can be done from TWRP or CWM.

I updated last week without full wipe Only Cache + dalvik from ROM xperia D (android 4.1) without big problems ..

Of course FULL WIPE is better !!!

I am okay with full wipe.
so these could my steps:
1) download CM10.2 from mentioned link here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385250
2) download gapps
3) I don;t know what to do with downloaded files, put to microSD card which is in phone?
4) rebbot to recovery mode, I can do that by entering "about phone" -> "additional system updates" -> "recovery mode"
5) there are two option to wipe a) wipe data/factory reset b) wipe cache partition, so I will do option a)
6) there are two option a) update from sdcard b) install zip from sdcard. whic one?

Hi, you should at first update to latest nightly 4.1.2 in order to upgrade the recovery and then move to 4.3, both wiping data and cache before flashing each ROM.
1) Download latest 4.1.2 and 4.3 ( you find link to them in the OP posts of the rispective threads )
2) wipe cache/dalvik.
3) flash latest 4.1.2.
4) wipe cache/dalvik.
5) flash 4.3.
6) wipe cache/dalvik.
7) Reboot.
A better solution would be to wipe also "/data" (and /system) in step 4 using " defy ultimate wipe ":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818520.
So it would be:
1) Download latest 4.1.2 and 4.3 and defy ultimate wipe.
2) Reboot
3) Wipe cache/dalvik.
4) Flash latest 4.1.2.
5) wipe cache/dalvik.
6) Reboot
7) Reboot
7) Wipe everything (/system /data /cache /dalvik_cache) defy ultimate wipe ( DO NOT REBOOT BEFORE doing the next step )
8) Flash 4.3.
9) wipe cache/dalvik.
10) Reboot.

Got to say that I try using CM10.1 & CM10.2 in the last week,
I got the same device asyou and to tell the truth, the CM10 (android 4.1.1) is the best for our defy's!
works good, no crashes or any other problems...
If you still think of trying it - go to youtube and look for- defy install cm 10.2
take a look at some of the videos.. it will assist you.
good luck!
thanks for replys
I am using CM10.2 vor few days now, and quite satisfied.

[Guide][Steps][KITKAT] Installing cyanogenmod 11 M7 on Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100)

Well, I know there are lot of helpful guides out there on how to install cyanogenmod but not everybody gets what he's looking for. I recently searched a lot of sites, forums, and lot of xda posts for installing cyanogenmod 11 M7. And i finally found few posts that helped me.
With these posts one can get an idea about how to flash a kernel, how to back up the data, and how to flash a custom ROM on a S2. Pretty helpful...isn't it? All thanks to these guys - @avirk , @-Grift- @banjara @Vivek_Neel @Phil3759 .
The steps might fit correct for some.. where there might be some variations for others. I myself didn't find some steps from the guide i followed while backing up my data. But still.. i went for it. And it was good enuf.
So here are the steps that i followed... n i think which might help some one like me out there.
First of all. as they say.. If anything goes wrong. I'm not responsible. If everything goes right.. well..Thank you then.
1) Downloads required
- << 03.06.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v5.06.1 with CWM 6.0.3.2 based recovery >>
- CWM 6.0.4.7 (Compiled From CM11 KK 4.4.2 Source) (LATEST) recovery
- cm-11-20140609-SNAPSHOT-M7-i9100.zip
- Gapps
2) Copy << 03.06.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v5.06.1 with CWM 6.0.3.2 based recovery >> into external storage.
3) Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power)
4) Select "apply update from external storage".
5) Now select the << 03.06.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v5.06.1 with CWM 6.0.3.2 based recovery >> file you copied in previous step
--- Rooted! ---
6) Reboot into recovery select option “Backup and Restore”
7) Select the option “Advance Backup and Restore”
8) Select the “Custom Backup Job”. There you have tick the “Preload” folder
9) scroll down and “Start custom Backup job” And then it will ask where you want to store the backup on you “Internal/External Storage”
10) After selecting the storage path it will start the backup process. When it finished you are ready to install the new ROM.
- One thing to be noted. I did not find the ‘Advanced backup and restore’ option while I was doing it. So I just took the normal back up. For a complete guide on backup refer to THIS POST
11) Boot into recovery (Do not boot into OS)
12) Select "apply update from external storage".
13) Now select the 6.0.4.7 (Compiled From CM11 KK 4.4.2 Source) (LATEST) recovery file that was copied on your external storage
14) CWM 6.0.4.7 now installed.
15) Boot into recovery (Do not boot into OS)
16) Wipe data/factory reset
17) Wipe cache
18) Wipe dalvik cache from advanced menu.
19) Select "apply update from external storage".
20) cm-11-20140609-SNAPSHOT-M7-i9100.zip
21) It will get installed.
22) Go back to recovery and Select "apply update from external storage".
23) Select the Gapps .zip file.
24) Reboot to OS.
And you're done!
Where are /format system and /format preload??? If you are on 4.1.2 stock you need to do a full wipe.
Flash latest philz kernel in stock recovery, then reboot into recovery again(hold 3 buttons) and flash latest Philz CWM Touch recovery(6.0.4.8!). Then do a full wipe and flash a custom rom and gapps.

I installed Cyano with similar steps and I finished with an useless phone with system partition full.
format system and preload are mandatory moving from stock to cyano in my opinion.

What happened with me was.. i didn't find the preload thing while making my backup.
So i missed some steps from the guide which i followed. I'll be trying it again when cm11 m8 will be out.

You can link your above post for the link to the GApps section in the OP, then you'll not get other questions as to the link for GApps.... Also, as said by @Zile995, it is better if you include formatting system and preload too in your guide as not doing so may cause issues and doing so is the best way to full wipe your system for fresh flashing without issues...
And yes...Great work.... :good:

I guess it should be ok to boot into the system because you'd be installing the recovery and if the recovery is compatible with the ROM and won't give any problem then you can. But still.. always take a second opinion before you try because... even I'm a learner.
