To upgrade to nightly or from rc1 to rc1.5:
1. Download update and copy to sd

Not gonna lie, this is my first rom install lol. I have v1.9 installed and have used titanium for my backup. I follow the instructions it says on the app and install the stable bootmenu. So, then I disabled USB debugging and rebooted (once blue LED came on) into the bootmenu. However, I'm stuck after that. Any help would be much appreciated.
rdannar's instructions below:
"1. DO NOT LEAVE RECOVERY MENU UNTIL YOU ARE COMPLETELY DONE WITH INSTALL (how do I know when I am completely done?)
2. download and place on sdcard (downloaded MUTT_rdannarV1, but when do I place on sdcard? unzipped/zipped?)
3. reboot into recovery menu
4. format data in recovery (what does this mean?)
5. wipe Dalvik in advanced menu of recovery
6. wipe Cache in recovery
7. choose install zip and click to install ROM
8. reboot and give it some time for first boot
9. IF ANY PROBLEMS with getting bootloader error then use the SBF called rdannarFIX in downloads and install like regular SBF"
Thank you
EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out. Experimentation is sometimes all you need hah. Thanks rdannar and all others for continued work and support.

[Q] [q] motorola defy plus 2.3.6

is there any custom ROM stable and 100% working, without any issues and please mention apps, steps, cautions step wise so that others could follow, read a lot of posts but all left me with doubts in the end, am fairly new to android so forgive me if this post is not worth. want to run stock sbf with custom rom possible i guess, ( installed 2ndinit for defy and my cam stopped showing preview posted as my first question. although uninstalled it and cam working now please help devz... i hope u will for sure. thx in advance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140839
works on my 2.3. 6 defy+
I am currently using the latest CM7.2-Nightly for Defy+ with the camera and battery fix attached in that post. It is very, very stable and with the fix, the battery charges up to 100%.
Installation:
!!!Read all steps before you do them!!!
1. Copy the three files linked above and the CM7-Google-Apps to your SD-Card.
2. Root your defy. I used this method.
3. Install 2nd-init recovery:
3.1 Download the app SndInitDefy from here
3.2 Install and start the app. Press on "Install 2nd-init Recovery".
3.3 Choose "Latest Recovery"
3.4 Allow the superuser-request
4. If the LED is green now, you can reboot your Defy. Press Vol-Down when you see the blue LED
5. Now you should get into the bootmenu. You can navigate with the volume keys there. Choose "Recovery" and press the power button to select.
6. Now choose "Custom Recovery"
7. Choose "install zip from sdcard" and install the downloaded zips:
7.1 Install cm72-120127.0846-NIGHTLY-Defy+.zip
7.2 Install gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
7.3 Install the fixes (the two other zips)
8. Now you have to do a factory reset. After that all your apps and settings will be deleted. If you want to keep them, you must backup the apps/settings first. You could do that with the app TitaniumBackup.
9. Choose "wipe data/factory reset" to do this factory reset.
10. Reboot the defy now. If you stil see the boot animation after five minutes, reboot the defy (I think you must remove the battery and put them into the phone again).
Now you should have a defy with CyanogenMod 7!
possible, in posibble?
188 2.3.6 motorola defy+ their full SBF will not work the root of the superoneclickk 2.3.3 not possible
WARNING!!!
The below guide is useless! It instructs you to download 2ndinit 2.0 which DOES NOT BOOT on Defy+ I have thus far killed 2 phones using it!!! Only use 1.4.2 no later. Thanks! =)

That's strange...
For me it works well, i installed CWM sucessfully on both 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 devices. I was using the original firmware (from factory) for the 2.3.4 device and at the second device i flashed a 2.3.6 DFP-139 sbf form droid-developers.org. After installing the latest recovery and removing the "2nd-init Defy" app, I rebooted the phones and everything worked fine.
When you start the phone, do you see the blue led then? If not, you don't have installed 2nd-init correctly. If yes, try to 'wipe data/factory reset' the phone (you should have a backup, this erases all your user data which is not stored on the sd card and all your apps). If the phone is still not booting, you/the 2nd-init installer have/has made a wrong change to the system partition.
Then you should try to flash a new 2.3.4 SBF (look here and also here) and try it one more time.

afaik you absolutely have to dual boot a defy/defy+...because of the locked bootloader you cant remove the stock rom...
follow the above instructions carefully and you will have a cm7.2...then you can dual boot by selecting the preferred entry from the menu....

Bro even I have done this n times! In fact I had stock 2.3.4 which I upgraded to 2.3.6 by a full SBF flash and since then I have rooted using superoneclick and installed recovery many times and it works perfectly! The only issue however is that there are less frequent releases for 2.3.6 as compared to the Froyo kernel!

Hi,
Good to know new Defy+ are coming in India with latest updates! I too have the very same SBF in my phone. As you said rooting and all not a problem. No need to flash any specific SBF as such. A nandroid backup is recommended in case you want to come back to where you left before flashing! And if you want back warranty just flash the SBF with RSD lite(Walter's thread has the SBF and even I can give you the link if you want.).
For your second answer:
This SBF has BL6. So you cannot go back to any ROM or sbf which has a previous version. Thus, walter said about unability to flash MIUI or CM7. However, you can flash CM7.2 for Defy+ or CM9 for Defy+(By quarx). Just flash the CM. No need to flash any kernel. It worked fine for me. You can even try dual boot and that too works great.
Happy flashing!
thnx a tonne....I was wanting cm7 fr its completeness....n cm9 fr awesomeness.....thnx again....
Also....can u give a link to the best cm7.2 build fr us....?

Bro, dont speak from ignorance, especially when it can lead to others ending up in a bad place. The latest versions of 2.3.6 eg 4.5.1-134-DFP-188 can not be rooted by any currently known exploit, so you have to be careful when choosing an sbf to flash. See here for which versions can and can't be rooted.
There's even a whole thread all of its own where people are trying to root the latest 2.3.6 releases, here.

http://quarx2k.ru/cm7-nightly-defy+/ That is CM7 nightlies for Defy+ by Quarx!!
Followed the steps listed by Mister Ypsilon, on to my new Defy+ which used to run Motorola Stock with Motoblur. So far looks good. I will post further regarding the battery.
The only glitch that I faced after installing the ROM is that it always froze at the Boot Animation. I had to pull the battery almost 5-6 times and then magically it started to work. Boots within 10 second from the Motorola Logo.
Not sure if the battery pulls were because of something that I did wrong.
Thank you Mister Ypsilon.

Unofficial ROM install

Hello,
I've an Huawei u8800 and i think I will install an unofficial ROM. Now I have the last (Beta?) Huawei GB ROM and i will try the dzo ICS ROM..
I've never done it before. Could someone help with a step by step solution (I don't want to loose contacts or messages and other apps data. I have titanium backup but last time I've upgrade the official ROM I had problems restoring system data)
I am worried about IMEI and WiFi Mac address loss reported problems too ..

Check "Root, Install ClockworkMod + Remove Bundled Apps from Official 2.3.5 by That-guy" link in my signature. It has guide to install clockworkmod, which you will use to install roms.
The only way (I think) is to backup those infos with titanium. I do not recommend it, because it might cause force closes in ICS if you restore them. After making backups and putting ICS zip to sdcard, reboot to recovery. You do this by booting phone while holding volume +.
Choose backup & restore and backup in there. Then do factory reset and then go advanced -> wipe dalvik
After it choose: install zip from sdcard and choose zip from sdcard from there.
Now navigate to ICS .zip file and choose it. Now choose reboot to system. It should start loading ICS now.
Just one question: i'm with elite .32. Do i need to downgrade to froyo before the instalation of the official beta update?

Well you need to root it:
How to Root:
Get SuperOneClickRoot
Get and Install Motorola Drivers [32bits] [64bits]
Reboot your PC
Turn USB Debugging ON (Settings -> Applications -> Development on your Defy)
Connect your Defy to the PC
Wait for the PC to install any missing Drivers
Click on Root
Let it work, then it will ask if you want to install BusyBox, hit YES
After it finished it will ask to make a test, click cancel and just Reboot your Defy
Done, Defy rooted
After that install as following!
GO TO CWM RECOVERY (PRESS VOL + AFTER RED LIGHT ON BOOT)
WIPE DATA
WIPE CACHE
CLICK ON ADVANCED > WIPE DALVIK

i would like to install kitkat on my defy green lens, but when i went on the development page, i only found roms for mb526 and mb520.
i assume defy red lens cant use the mb526, however, i don't know what to use foe my phone.
can anyone help me?
thanks.
Use the builds for MB526. Since we have 2ndboot there are no more separate builds.

Defy MB525 and cm11? Which steps to do?
I am lost too,
I put CM9 on my Defy (MB525) and I got first a blue, then a green LED after boot.
I would love to update the new CM11 but using the following link I dont know what to choose, because I have no MB526
http://defy.bytekiste.de/ on the page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515036
1.)
The cm10-2ndboot-nightly-defy(+) is the only with "+" in brackets "()". Which can I choose?
The last update is: "cm11-nightly-defy+/" but it says only "defy+", not "defy(+)
Options are:
[DIR] aosp-4.4-nightly-defy+-3.0Kernel/ 10-Nov-2013 21:53 -
[DIR] aosp-4.4-nightly-defy+/ 10-Nov-2013 18:50 -
[DIR] cm10-2ndboot-nightly-defy(+)/ 30-Oct-2013 15:07 -
[DIR] cm10.2-nightly-defy+/ 30-Oct-2013 17:31 -
[DIR] cm11-nightly-defy+/ 10-Dec-2013 14:50 -
[DIR] cm11-nightly-defy+3.0Kernel/ 23-Nov-2013 18:41 -
[DIR] cm11-nightly-kobe+3.0Kernel/ 20-Nov-2013 22:12 -
[DIR] cm11-nightly-kobe/ 10-Dec-2013 15:58 -
2.) What do I have to do to make it work?
Only:
- place file on SD card
- boot into recovery -> custom recovery ("ICS Recovery v5.7.0")
- Install zip from sdcard (and choose the one file from question 1.) above?)
3.) Do I need the update-recovery.zip too?
4.) How do I get back to my actual state of phone? Can I just use the NANDROID-Backup (now: "Backup and restore" -> "Backup (all)", when I want to get back: "Backup and restore" -> "Restore System & Data"?)
I tried to ask in way that it helps others too who want to install the newest developments of quarks and co.
Thanks to quarks and all the others in this forum!

thank you for you answer.
i bricked my phone, so i first reinstalled an original deblured rom. then i rooted, used 2ndinit and the zip file you linked me. it's awesome, i succeeded installing the new kitkat rom. and i intalled gapps for kitkat.
now there is a new problem, i can't activate wifi. i installed cm-11-20131210-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip, the latest rom, however, i can't scroll the upper part where there are the settings and parameters such as light, gps or wifi.
should i reinstall the rom?
by the way, i'm amazed to see that camera can film in 720p. i thought it was impossible for green lenses. it's a good surprise:laugh:.

1) Everytime you see a mb526/defy+ rom it means it's also for mb525/defy. You could flash every rom from there (except the kobe builds)
Get the latest build from the cm11-nightly-defy+ dir if you want cyanogenmod 11 (android 4.4)
there's also cm11-nightly-defy+3.0Kernel which is based on the newer 3.0 kernel, not stable at all.
2) If you come from cm9: flash update-recovery.zip -> reboot -> full wipe/ or flash safewipe.zip -> flash cm11.
3) Yes, any other recovery won't work
4) Yes, you can downgrade if you want.

Try activating it from the toggles in the notification bar.

Nope, there is no toggle in the activation bar. i installed kitkat without any trouble on galaxy s, but it seem to be a little tricky on defy. the only thing i can do since there is no toggle, is going in parameters, then check wifi. it tells me it is preparing the connection, but after on hour or so, still the same even after a soft reboot.
i assume i made something wrong if i'm the only one without wifi.
finally it works. i wiped cache and data again and i installed the rom without gapps. wifi is active. i assume may gapps were interfering. it's a little weird since i uses gapps suitable for kk.
anyway, thank you ell for your help especially cyrusct82

Hi everyone and thanks for you help by now. My defy is still on CM9 because I does not work out
- i booted into Bootmenu v2.1-beta
- choose "Recovery" -> "Custom Recovery"
- then i tried do the step "2)" you explained above: "If you come from cm9: flash update-recovery.zip -> reboot -> full wipe/ or flash safewipe.zip -> flash cm11."
-- so i copied the file "update-recovery.zip" from the path http___defy.bytekiste.de/cm11-nightly-defy+/update-recovery.zip onto my root of the sdcard.
-- in the ICS recovery v5.7.0 i tried " the following three steps who did not work:
--- Apply update from sdcard
--- Install zip from sdcard
--- Backup and restore -> Restore (System & data)
but my defy says when doing "Apply update from sdcard"
#########
Installing /sdcard/clockworkmod/update-recovery.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /sdcard/clockworkmod/update-recovery.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted
#########
What do I do wrong?
I also read: the answer of "cyrusct82"
Should I go that way? How to? you posted a link "Use this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=48501247"
How do I install that one? Is the following way correct?
#########
- boot into Bootmenu v2.1-beta
- choose "Recovery" -> "Custom Recovery"
- Install zip from sdcard?
#########
Flash this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48501247&postcount=1250 and then flash kitkat.

got it. You have to flash this zip: http://d-h.st/dWr it's my fault, the steps i told you were wrong because to flash update-recovery.zip you need at least the recovery that comes with cm10 (twrp 3.6.0.0). And i don't know why, i thinked it was ok also the one that comes with cm9 so just flash this http://d-h.st/dWr (which allows to install the new recovery from an old one) -> and 4.4
check! I am on CM11! thanks to everyone
I had a CM9 device and now I am in CM 11. My steps were:
> I reboot into recovery
> installed „defy_twrp_recovery_2.6.3.0.zip“ (thx for the Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48501247&postcount=1250 )
> reboot into recovery again
> installed cm-11-20131210-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515036 the first Link via bytekiste)
> Factory Reset into the recovery
> rebooted into CM11 (it works!!!!! thx to everyone!!)
> rebooted into recovery again, installed GAPPS (12-14_Gapps_Core_4.4.2_signed.zip that cyrusct82 provided with the Link http___www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319195954 )
> rebooted phone and it works even with GAPPS!!
I used the thanks-Button already!
Good to know that there are great members who make it work!
Thanks everyone! Also quarks who prepared this Nightly Build of CM11!
I still have my old clockworkmod NANDROID Backup of CM9. Can ich make a new one now of CM 11 within TWRP and switch with TWRP between these 2 backups?

Happy that it worked. To your question: Yes and no. You could switch to cm9 restoring the backup. But when you are on cm9 you come back with the old recovery so you have to flash again the zip and then with the new recovery you can restore the cm11's backup. Hope i helped you
