[Q] cant root OMNIROM - Omni Q&A

Hey guys i have an i9300 intl s3 and i am using the OmniROM Nightly build updates...
one bug to report if you will, i cant root the rom, i have tried Odin and Kingo but to no avail.
this means i cant get SU privileges and most of all, i cant auto update to the latest nightly and have to manually keep upgrading daily to the latest build, regardless to say, this means reloading all my stuff again, everyday.
Could you help a fellow out and try check on why we cant root the OmniROM 4.4 yet?

Please read the OP in your devices' OmniROM thread. I'm rather sure there's a word about flashing su or SuperSu right there.

Why the heck are you using root exploits when you can just flash SuperSU in recovery?

Re-Using CF-Autoroot

I rooted using CF Autoroot. I recently flashed a PAC rom nightly which breaks root. I want to keep running the nightly because it has Halo and the previous versions obviously don't. Can I use Odin to CF Autoroot again while running this current rom and easily regain root? Or will I have to flash back to stock first, or something?
Much appreciated.
k but seriously guys all I need to know is whether you think running cf-autoroot in my phone's present state will somehow brick it. I'm on Pacman rom, it's a fairly stable nightly, but it broke root according to rootchecker and everyone in the development thread. I can't post there because I have less than ten posts.

I flashed the su zip from here.

Credit to shabby. If it helps give him some thanks.

Did you ask in the PAC rom thread? Should not be an issue to run CF auto-root again. At the worst you would just need to Odin back to stock and start over. I have not heard of anyone Hard Bricking attempting to root.

[Q] Franco kernel disabled root..

hey guys, thanks for all the info you post however I have an issue with the newest Franco kernel. I installed the latest release and after reboot my root access is gone. I tried reinstalling Super SU, but even when doing it through TWRP it doesn’t install. The kernel is R75 the latest available through the Franco App. This is my first time using a kernel, is this normal? What do I need to do to get rooted again?
Thanks for everyone's contributions on the forum, you have helped me tremendously in the past just from reading posts and thanks for any help with this issue.

The only thing lately I notice lately is flashing some 4.3 roms you loose root. Easy to get back just use the below tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
I also had the same problem when i flashed franco kernel #75 over PA #3.91 and it broke the root.
I also searched for superuser patch but could not find any updates.

So is there currently no fix for this then? I think I'd rather go with Stock Kernel than lose all of my root exclusive apps.
BTW I don't think I mentioned it before, I am using a Nexus 7 (orig).
Edit:
I just found this
Just auto-flash the r75-nightly with FKU on my stock-4.3 nexus 7 16GB.
After re-boot, the supersu poped up a notification that "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!".
This issue is solved after I re-flash the current latest UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip with CWM.

If i read correctly, something in the latest CM 10.2 ramdisk released recently broke root. The next update to all of the kernels will see it fixed.

if you use the SuperSU link I provided you can re-root with the latest franco kernel running.
SuperSu worked!!!

lose root after installing FKR75 with FK updater
I tried flashing the latest super su 1.65 zip but TWRP said it couldn't open the zip file. I had to reflash the stock ROM to get back root.
I have followed this thread but found no answer.

Is your tablet encrypted? The same happened to me on my encrypted N4 and the only option was to go back to stock kernel.

Should I stay on 4.2 as all I see is 4.3 problems...

Hi there,
I've been seeing so many errors with 4.3 on this forum it aint funny, I just want to know who has installed it on their device and has had no problems with it? I'm currently on 4.2.2
Currently on stock 4.3 and no problems at all except for those annoying Knox notifications. My device has never been rooted and I haven't changed the kernel whatsoever though.

I upgraded my i9506 to 4.3 ,to me it was like a bad move now I can't go back to 4.2 stock or custom ROMs since boot loader as been upgraded well that can be issue for me maybe because its carrier based and Knox keep blocking Super Su until you force install binaries and Su via CWM method or Odin

Go to the Play Store search "KNOX Disabler" install.
When you open it does the 2 at once, prompts the know message and asked for root access, when you grant the root access it then disable knox message, and your now free to enjoy your rooted without this annoying ****!
Peace.

You can be on 4.3 without all the KNOX stuff. Choose a custom ROM that is based on 4.3.

What to do next after Cyanogenmod?

Hi I have an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 on Cyanogenmod M11, Was on UK VOD stock but moved to Cyanogenmod which is still on 4.4.4 KitKat but I'm a bit worried about future development of CGM. I read about tussles with other companies and big aspirations for M12 but the regular updates I've been enjoying have died out. not even a lollipop stable yet, I'm beginning to lose hope.
I know I shouldn't be so skeptical but I want to explore other roots (no pun intended).
Currently which rom would provide me with a stable lollipop with regular OTA updates for future proofing my phone?
Thanks v much
Alternatively I guess I could go back to stock to get lollipop but haven't done it in a while Im guessing I just flash a stock image via odin
Those tensions don't really affect Cyanogenmod, though I understand your concern. However, the biggest issue you're going to have is that most - if not all - custom ROMs are built using Cyanogenmod as a base. Realistically, the only alternative available I can think of without going to Touchwiz is Danvdh/Kryten's GPE ROM. Going back to Touchwiz is a dead end. Samsung has stated that Android 5.x is the end of the line for the S4, meaning there will be no Android M unless using a custom ROM.
Thanks very much for the excellent advice. I will give Danvdh/Kryten's GPE ROM a go and see how I go. I'm going to post the link to the ROM thread if anyone is following the same route as me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353
EDIT: I'm going to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-orig-develop/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2943934 first as its CM 12 lollipop which is what I was looking for really but will try GPE if i dont like that rom
Another question... sorry: i currently have CWM on my phone but the CM rom says to use TWRP with F2FS does cwm have this or do i need to remove CWM and install TWRP?

Don't use that version of CM. It's not what you want because it's not updated anymore.
Use this version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lop/exclusive-antaresone-alucard24-s-t3066696
or the Official nightlies.
I used the older one but realised too late (
got stuck with no gapps and the bloody thing wouldnt boot into recovery cwm or twrp :/ never had that before. so having to do stock flash It's failed twice LOL
EDIT: got it stocked well thats something at least. anyway tomorrow I'll try again and get TWRP on there properly, it was weird because cyanogemod had installed CWM on there before i couldnt get rid of it :/ so i ended up with no recovery manager doh! Thanks for the link Lenny

Please correct me if i am wrong

Hello guys,
Please excuse my noobish question, but i need to find some good answer.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, model number SM-N9005 with Android version 4.4.2.
The phablet is rooted thanks to Towelroot. And from there i install Titanium Backup and many others intersting stuff that need/or not root.
I enjoyed Xposed and i'm thinking i want to enjoy CyanogenMod also.
Now ... my problems is that i am very confused about what i have to do next.
And after i spent some time to research this, i've come here for some guidance because i fell that i'm running in circle.
My questions are :
Do i have to upgrade to Lollipop first ?
Do i have to unroot from Towelroot and root again with Odin ?
As i saw that steps are as follow:
1. Need root
2. Install TWRP
3. CyanogenMod (as i saw 12 is the last and it's good for my device)
Many thanks !

1. Unique way to update to Lollipop (if you are rooted) is via ODIN. I don't recommend you update anyway. I still with android 4.4.2.
2. No. Only flash the new firmware via ODIN and root it then with ODIN too.
3. I don't recommend you install CyanogenMod if you are noob.
If you do want CyanogenMod, you only need to install TWRP, and then flash latest CM-12.1 nightly build in recovery. You do need to wipe /data first, though which means you will lose your apps and settings.
Always make backups!

So why do you dont recommend to me to upgrade to Lollipop ?
Is Kit Kat better at this time than Lollipop ?
If i will update via ODIN, is there a better way to do that ?
And ... Still have my question about what if i'll unroot (and how can i do that safe) and root it by examples via ODIN and then follow others tutorials with TWRP and CyanogenMod. I'm not confortable via ODIN (but if i find some good, trusted tutorials, i want to try it) because as i told you before i rooted my phablet, the easy way via Towelroot.
2. No. Only flash the new firmware via ODIN and root it then with ODIN too.

If you want a CM rom just flash recovery with odin. No need to root. Then backup your phone and flash the CM rom. No need to upgrade to lollipop either.
However if you want a lollipop TW based rom it's better to upgrade to lollipop first. Nevertheless you can still try lollipop TW custom rom without upgrading to lollipop first but some functions may not work well.
If you can root your phone with Towelroot and you don't want to use odin to flash the recovery, you may do so by dd with terminal emulator.
