Hello,
I got a hd2 from a friend and get some problems with it. Sometimes it freezes and starts to heat up (extremly).
While doing so it eats up a lot of energy the battery goes down in no time.
I'm not sure what causes this behavior, first I thought it's due to heat (happens more often in summer) but
if the cpu overheats shouldn't it stop working and reboot/shutdown
Rom / Kernel / System (Android/Windows) doesn't matter happens anyway, expect for stock.

it runs fine with wm but when switching to android it over heats and just shuts off im guessing with all the programs on the android its causing the phone to over heat.
any idea why it is over heating?
From what i understand it is because the android operating system is being run off the SD card, so the SD card is constantly being accessed by the phone hence the phone getting hot and high battery consumption (even when in sleep mode).

Are you overclocking your Android? Overclocking puts lots of work on your phone cpu, thus causing it to overheat and restate itself.
I'm overclocking. However, I would suggest using Set CPU to make profiles to make sure the phone stays cool. I'm underclocking when the screen is off and just under normal CPU speed while charging. When I was overclocking while charging, it would get up past one hundred degrees! (Of course, I rectified that quickly.)
This is the main reason why it took me so long to switch to android. So far, Shub 1.4d is the only build I've found that doesn't maky my poor phone overheat like mad. It still gets a bit warm unless I underclock it to about 800mhz.
funny my phone never over heats. It only gets warm when I play a game or long lenths of tethering.
The two weird issuse I'm having are when I touch the screen in the center a little more than half way up iget a circle ripple kinda like when you push on a laptops LCD screen. The second issue is when I use my camera or place a game even with full battery the phone shuts of after five min? The rom that I am useing is the latest typhoon rom this has been going on for like three weeks both issues started around the same time. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks Kevin
The 5min shutoff sounds like its overheating... or the batteries going bad
As for the Screen Ripple.. I'm not sure... If you still have warranty consider restoring it to factory default and sending it in for a replacement.
the screen issue is weird indeed.
if you have SetCPU installed, make it notify you if the phone gets hotter, somewhere between 40-41 degrees celsius is fine, you can make it underclock the CPU to somewhere between 500-800 MHz so it would cool down, and you won't get that issue if it's an overheating problem. if it keeps turning off then I agree with the post above, it might be your battery.
yep overheated , screen ripple is caused from overheating.
Had a friends like that but luckily had a spare mainboard & he just got a screen assembly..
He too was on android but has decided to go with WM6.5.5 & see if device lasts longer on this OS.
Hello all, I just wanted to get some community feedback on an issue I am having with my hd2. First of all when charging my phone with winmo the battery only gets slightly warm, the same goes if the hd2 is charging while powered off.
Now the problem is while using Android. The battery seems to be heating up to 41 - 45 c. Also most of the heat being output comes from right under the 5 buttons. I have noticed that if I the reboot into winmo and the battery is less than 100% the indicator light will alternate green and orange every 3 seconds, but this only happens after rebooting from android. Now if I do a hard reset this fixes the problem.
Any thoughts as to what it might be? Possibly a radio issue?
Sounds like you are dual booting - something I have never done, but as there is more going on when you boot into Android and the phone has dual boot, I would imagine that its linked to that. The CPU will have much more to do and using power and charging at the same time is sure to push up the temps on the phone fast
Have you considered a nand Android rom? the Froro versions are very fast, stable and suitable for 24/7 use inmh of course.
I think that. the heat issue would then vanish
My phone has always had this problem, but since Kitkat it seems to be happening more frequently.
It happens when
1. Phone is on charge over night
2. When the phone sits idle for a long period of time.
I've tried several roms/kernels but the problem always persists, I had a nosey around but couldn't find anything in specifics. I tried an that solves the problem when it is on charge well it seems to work it happened a lot less but still happened.
What causes this?
Are there any solid fixes?

making the lower CPU frequency a little higher solves the issue. i've been having this exact same thing.
so instead of setting the minimum CPU freq to 384000, make it a little higher, maybe 486000 or 594000...

Hi, did you manage to fix this by raising the minimum CPU speed? I have the same issue on KitKat 4.4.2
I suspected it could be an app (possibly G+ which is known to drain the battery). Others have suggested it is to do with the wifi policy and the phone locking when the wifi disconnects or reconnects. I am use CATACLYSM ROM now and it seems more prevalent on this than it was on Stock, so I may simply switch back and monitor. Cheers.
Hi,
I'm experiencing some problems when using Android Auto. I think that my device is overheating.
Maps becomes very slow after about 30 minutes driving. Sometimes the phone is going very hot and is unresponsive during few minutes. I checked the cpu temp after a drive today and got values close to 60c. I'm running LOS 14.1 right now. I was using CM 13 previously and the heating issue wasn't so huge.
So I wonder if anyone else is running Android Auto successfully on this device ?
update : I disabled thermal throttling using Kernel Aduitor. Android Auto is running perfectly fine now. Phone is heating a lot (80c for CPU but 25c for battery) What is the thermal throttling ? Is it a kernel feature ? Is it the same as thermald ? Is it tunable ?

I would be careful with turning that off. Thermal throttling basically checks how hot your phone's internal components get, and when they reach a dangerous level it forces the device to slow down.
Turning it off means that your device WILL work at hotter temps, but you risk damaging the CPU, screen, battery, etc.
The reason the phone was getting slow is due to 1. the screen being on all the time, 2. the GPS constantly updating.
The N4 wasnt meant for such tasks, so it overheats.
One solution: get a mount that sits on top of the airvents, so that cool air blows over it.

Well the screen is off with Android Auto. But of course the GPS is working. The battery temp stays low at about 25c. The screen is not hot. Only the back of the phone (the upper part close the camera) is getting hot. Thermald is still active and there is still a protection against battery overheating.
I really think that the Lineage kernel is too much aggressive regarding thermal throttling. I tried other kernels but unfortunately they slow down clocks too much when the screen goes off.

Btw, there are some stupid gadgets you can buy on aliexpress to help with this issue. Like this weird phone stand with a fan behind it, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Portable-3-in-1-Holder-Stand-Radiator-Mobile-Phone-Rings-Holder-2000-mA-Bracket-Power-Bank/32824399237.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_3_10152_10065_10151_10068_10130_10344_10345_10547_10342_10343_10340_10341_10548_10192_10541_10540_10190_10307_10301_10303_10060_10155_10154_10056_10055_10539_10538_10537_10536_10059_10534_10533_100031_10103_10102_10142_10107_10324_10325_10084_10083_10179_10312_10313_10184_10314_10073,searchweb201603_25,ppcSwitch_2&btsid=ee6398e3-e7a6-4bd7-938c-34f6e0cdef52&algo_expid=21d9a156-0a93-470d-acbc-d807892ce6e8-0&algo_pvid=21d9a156-0a93-470d-acbc-d807892ce6e8 or just buy a holder than fits over the airvents in your car https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Anker-Air-Vent-Magnetic-Car-Mount-Highly-Adjustable-Phone-Holder-for-iPhone-SE-6-6s-7/32824593598.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_3_10152_10065_10151_10068_10130_10344_10345_10547_10342_10343_10340_10341_10548_10192_10541_10540_10190_10307_10301_10303_10060_10155_10154_10056_10055_10539_10538_10537_10536_10059_10534_10533_100031_10103_10102_10142_10107_10324_10325_10084_10083_10179_10312_10313_10184_10314_10073-10102_10000902,searchweb201603_25,ppcSwitch_2&btsid=d12c851e-a69b-48e1-b282-0733c26584ae&algo_expid=ab74c295-fb60-418d-9e32-5e32f75bd993-0&algo_pvid=ab74c295-fb60-418d-9e32-5e32f75bd993
Yep, I have the same issue. I was originally using slickrom stable release, then switched to weeklies and the issue showed up. Slickroms is based on lineage, so switched to lineageos and I've been seeing the same problem. Haven't found a solution to this problem (using Android auto with nexus 4 and lineageos).
