[Q] Installing Clock (deskclockgoogle.apk) - 7" Kindle Fire HD General

Hi everyone, I've a Kindle Fire HD (2012) and works great with ROOT, ADW Launcher by default and wallpaper fix.
Only a problem: don't have the Clock App.
So I follow this:
Download the clock file (DeskClock.apk) using the link below. Then, copy the file to the /system/app folder on your device using a root explorer like ES File Explorer or similar. Then, set the permissions of the DeskClock.apk file to RW- R– R–. However, before you copy over the APK, make sure to rename the original DeskClockGoogle.apk file (and also DeskClockGoogle.odex if the file is present) to something else to back it up, which you can then restore if needed by simply deleting the new file and renaming the old one again. Reboot your device to be able to use the new clock.

And without launch the installation after the Reboot there's the icon in the Drawer.
But when I launch the app it crash!
Why? Thanks a lot!

It looks like you downloaded the Clock.apk for Android 4.2 (JellyBean). If you're on stock (and from your post, it sounds like you are), your Kindle is running Android 4.0.3, so you will need to find the Clock.apk for Ice Cream Sandwich.
You can also try resetting the permissions for it. Either in a terminal emulator app or through ADB shell, run this command:
Code:
chmod 644 /system/app/nameofclockapp.apk
And then reboot.
Also, you don't need to rename it to "DeskClockGoogle.apk" or whatever. That's just if you are replacing an existing system app (which you're not) to prevent it from conflicting with the original app. You can just leave it as "Clock.apk" and it will work, since Amazon doesn't include this app in their stock OS.
EDIT: I've uploaded the Clock.apk I've used while running Stock OS.

i need to replace a few of the original apk on my LG Optimus one P500, italy - does anybody have them so that i can do a clean installation? actually i copied those i needed from my friend's phone, (apk and odex) and tried to install them again but i get an installation error, i have root, etc etc. any clues why?
is there an official repository from LG with the original apps of this phone i can download from somewhere?
thanks
gabrio
if anybody needs it, i have found 2 original repositories for LG Optimus One.

Please, please post the LG Home apk, I foolishily deleted it from my Optimus One and I've heard that the phone may be bricked if I uninstall my third party launcher.

Thanks for uploading but I get the message that the application cannot be installed. Got any ideas? I can't seem to move the files into correct directory either.
Try to restore it, maybe work.
I used a website that allowed me to copy your files to the right directory (I can't post it here because I am a new user). However, I cannot actually install the apk which is a worry. But I think the phone wouldn't brick now if I chose to restore or whatever since the files are there. Don't want to take the risk just yet though.
My suggestion was to try restore the LgHome.apk with some app what support backup/restore, like SystemApp Remover. If doesn't work just use other home luncher, don't do a factory reset, because i get LgSetup wizzard error, black screen with no system launcher, and launcer pro was installed. So take care.
Try this one LGHome.apk. Hope is work.
looks like they sent u already. what happened to me was that i deleted it, then the phone would be lock at the android BOOT screen with the flashing logo BUT i managed to connect it to the pc and then launch "adb shell". via adb i pushed the Lg Home.apk to the system/app (i also had to change permissions of the phone file system via linux commands) then it worked, actually downloaded launcher pro right away and i love it, not using LG Home.apk anymore.
regarding uploading the file via adb:
1 adb shell
2 su
3 set permissions of the file system to be mounted r/w, SHOULD be this : mount -t yaffs2 -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock6 /system
4 exit (one for exiting su)
5 exit (exiting)
then exit the shell from the phone.
> adb push LGHome.apk system/app // important, if you have a space in the filename you'll have a problem with adb and have the .apk file locally on the same folder where you have adb.exe otherwise you'll have a problem or you'll have to add adb to the path of your windows/linux path env variables, hence use adb push LG*Home.apk system/app - should work otherwise just rename it w/o space, works anyway.
then reboot it should work!

Yes I have file in the correct directory with correct permissions too, but can you actually install it to the phone? Or does it fail like it does for me?
Have you trying this one?? To me is installing fine, but get error when try to open it, maybe couse i have prime rom with apps2sd. Anyway i dont use LgHome.
That's not the real LG Home its one that's been hacked to use on devices that didn't have it preinstalled. The one you gave before was an original but it doesn't install which is really pissing me off.

my phone couldn't start anymore (stuck @ android logo) and i copied this one from my friend's LG O1 (same as mine) bought in italy, same store i did, and it worked. actually the home didn't have all icons i had before so looked "weird" but at least i was able to start up the phone. then you can re-add to the home screen the apps and worked.
eventually i installed launcher PRO and im using that one now, much better.

im not sure that all versions are identical, that is what helped me and managed to have the phone start up.
But did you install it or just place it in the directory?
Same LGHome problem here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886911. But if you can navigate in the phone and are not stuck in boot logo or black screen, why need LG launcher. Just don't do factory reset cause you will get a phone with no launcher.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Asus programs on modded tablet, and some CM9 questions

Hi All,
I set out to flash my tablet back to stock with the goal of copying some of the awesome asus-specific widgets and applications and installing them back on my tablet after I re-rooted/modded it. I accomplished part of this goal by finding some of the .apk's I wanted, like the Asus weather & battery widgets, the Supernote.apk, anda few others (I still wasn't able to find the Swype Keyboard.apk file)
Anywho, I tried to install the .apk's on my tablet after re-installing cm9 and rooting it but it just says "Application not installed". Anyone have any ideas? And can anyone elaborate on how to copy that swype keyboard APK that I desperately want? I found the other .apk's in the /system/app folder but swype wasn't there.
My other questions relate to CM9:
1) is there any way to decrease the boot time for CM9, or at least customize the boot screen?
2) I'm currently running an older version of cm9 (rc0 unofficial) and I have the stable rc1 of cm9 but when i tried to flash it, it didn't work (i can get the exact error message if needed). Did I do something wrong in updating or is RC1 not compatible with the device? Should I just wait till CM10 comes out?
3) When I initially rooted/flashed cm9, I was able to connect my tablet to my computer and the root of the / directory, but after flashing stock and trying again, I don't have the same luck. Is there some step I missed?
I appreciate any responses, thanks.

I haven't tried this, but it may work. If you have ADB on your computer, try doing an adb push [name of file].apk /system/app/
If you can't do that, try copy/pasting them there using a root explorer on your device itself. Make sure the permissions are set properly (I don't remember what they are off the top of my head).
After doing that, reboot. See if it works.
As for your CM Questions:
1) I'm not sure if you can reduce the time. For customizing the animation, look at something like Rom Toolbox Pro (which also includes a root explorer like I mentioned above).
2) All CM9 TF300T downloads are located here: http://get.cm/?device=tf300t RC1 is listed there so I'm assuming you did something wrong (what's the error you get?)
3) Did you re-root? I'm not sure I understand.

I apologize for the vagueness of my original post. I made this thread in anticipation of flashing everything back to stock, trying to copy over those Asus-specific .apk's (which I managed to do), and then re-rooting/re-flashing CM9.
I flashed the .30 firmware to get back to stock and found the Asus widgets & apk's I was looking for in the /system/app directory. After some bootloops and other fun, I was able to flash back to CM9 and when I tried to install the .apk's I immediately get the message "The Application was not installed"
Of the asus items I wanted, Supernote and Polaris Office were my top two picks, and I was able to acquire Supernote through 3-rd party means and install it. So I'm stoked to have Supernote on a CM9-flashed tablet. I wasn't able to find Polaris Office so I hope to at least be able to find a work-around to install that.
In response to #3 - yes I re-rooted my tablet (lost root with the .30 firmware) and previously I was able to browse the root directory of my tablet while it was connected to my computer. Now, I can only browse the SD card. I still haven't figured out a solution to this, but I just transfer files to my memory card and then to my tablet from there. I'm looking into how to do OTA file transfers via bluetooth or wi-fi, if at all possible.

So did you try what I suggested in my post (pushing the files to /system/app on your tablet, rather than trying to install them through File Browser or whatever)?
I'm not sure if they rely on any custom Asus framework stuffs, like with many other OEMs. I personally doubt it because Asus barely changes anything. I think it *should* work, but can't guarantee it.
The easiest way to get the files to /system/app (if you're not very ADB or tech. savvy) is to download a root explorer (like Rom Toolbox Pro has, for example) and copy all the .apks that you want from your sdcard to /system/app.

I haven't tried pushing the files via ADB yet. I just wiped out my computer so I need to re-install the drivers to get the tablet recognized and/or the the Android SDK.
In the 3rd point of your point, do you mean my external SD card or the internal memory?
the Transformer Pad has a good portion of internal memory partitioned as an sdcard and mounts it at /sdcard/. I haven't used an external SD card with my tablet yet. Either one should work.
I also found out that Polaris Office has some library files that you probably should grab as well. You can find them at:
/system/lib/libpolarisoffice_tablet.so
/system/lib/libpolarisofficedump.so
/system/lib/libtfapps-polaris.so

There might be some library files for the other apps. You might want to look around in the /system/lib folder for other libraries as well.

That's awesome, thanks. If I'm able to get this working I will post a guide for others to follow. I ended up just signing up for the swype beta (which I think is stupid since I paid for that app when I bought my tablet, shouldn't have to get a reduced version)
I was able to find a working supernote.apk app on a 3rd-party website and it installed and worked perfectly.
My other issue I'm having is I try to push the files with ADB and it tells me my tablet is read-only? it gives that same message no matter which directory I try to push to. I have the superuser app and have root, but superusers' log shows the 'adb shell' is consistently being denied root permission (if i try to do su or something similar). Any thoughts?

You need to remount your system as read-write. Trying doing an adb remount. If that doesn't work, try typing the following into a terminal emulator:
su
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system

Try ADB pushing again after that.
if you are able to install the apps by adb push. then maybe a .zip file can be created and use CWM to install all the stock apps.

Well part of the issue is that I can't "su" while in adb shell. It says permission denied. When I type ADB devices normally, it'll list my device. But when I'm in "adb shell" it doesn't show anything. "adb remount" gives me the message "error: device not found".
Any other suggestions?

That's weird. I've never seen that before. Are you certain that your adb drivers are installed properly? You can always use a terminal emulator on your device itself to remount the system as read/write and then use adb afterwards.

I'm pretty sure my drivers are installed correctly. Everything shows up in device manager, "adb devices" lists my device, fastboot flashes files just fine, so yea.
And yea I have the terminal emulator on my tablet and I've used it before for some stuff (installing Ubuntu) so I will try the steps you guys have mentioned. I'm in the process of trying out some other ROM's right now (Hydro atm, and then probably CleanROM) so once I go back to stock and have access to the appropriate files I'll try these steps.

Chrome won't properly install to /system/app

Bought a new nexus 7 yesterday (after having my old one stolen...) and I decided to root and install AOKP JB MR1 Milestone 1. I'm really impressed with it but I was surprised to find the AOSP browser rather than Chrome and a lack of Performance Control.
I tried to install Chrome as a system app (download from Play, push from /data/app to /system/app and set permissions to rw-r--r--) and rebooted. I was again surprised when I found that "Chrome's installation was incomplete." It worked fine in /data/app but I am now curious as to why it won't work in /system/app. (Sorry if this sounds nooby, I haven't dealt with rooting Nexus devices before, I only rooted my crappy old GT-S5830)
Does anyone have a solution? Missing lib files or something else that I need to transfer over?
And as a sidenote, is Performance Control compatible with the N7 on this build? And does anyone have a working version of it?
Check the apk. I think it has a lib file that you need to put into /system/lib. I'm also trying this out as of the moment with a LatinIME.apk

Google Play Store on Fire HD 2013

Hey,
after tinkering around for some days I came to the conclusion, that the playstore crashes because of the Download Manager.
I tried to sideload the download manager from my phone but that didn't work since the Kindle's missing some framework. (newer android on phone)
Could someone with a working gplay store upload the apk and odex for DownloadProvider and DownloadProviderUI?

You want to remember that most people just flash a Gapps zip these days. For those just staying rooted, I recommend using this more up to date tool that can also install Google play. It works real well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460

Well, you can always use KFFA and that tool will install Google Play real well. It is an older version but it will update right away too. Other than that, i don't know what else to offer. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069329 You can do factory reset or or use the Root Many Android tool that will re-install Google Play. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460

I've got a solution:
Install GPlay Store as mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365224
Then follow this solution:
Backup your Downloads App via Titanium Backup
Download the files attached to my post to your device
Copy the DownloadProvider.apk AND DownloadProviderUi.apk into your /system/app directory
Set the permissions to rw- r-- r-- for both
Reboot your Kindle Fire HD

I've just uploaded DownloadProviderUI.apk in my original post. Try these maybe this will work. Otherwise you could also try to patch your Google Play to a different version with Lucky Patcher (just google for it ) ('Toolbox' -> 'Install modded Google Play Store' -> select another version)
Also, now whenever I restart the tablet, I get a "com.google.process.gapps has stopped" message twice. I'm not sure what's causing that. It's probably from following the 5 different tutorials I've found. lol
I tried a few different Play Store version, but I'll give that Lucky Patcher a shot.
Do we need the DownloaderProviderUI.apk file too maybe? Maybe you would be so kind as to post that too?

Yeah, same result as if you'd delete DownloadManager and DownloadManagerUI .odex and .apk.
Are those two .apks from a working version of the play store?

I renamed the original DownloadProvider and DownloadProviderUi apks, adding '.bak' to the end, then moved the apks from this thread in there and changed the permissions. Just gets stuck at "Downloading...". I also tried a few different Play Store versions. Everything else syncs up fine (gmail, chrome, hangouts, youtube, ...), so I suppose it's good enough for now.
What I'm really hoping for is a custom recovery and CM11 nightlies.
well that didnt work
well that didn't work and now I cant download anything lost es explorer and cant get it to revert back to the old one

From inside ES File Explorer go to tools > move down to root explorer and click on that (don't click on the word on.) Now click on "mount r/w > set permissions for both to rw and click OK.
Now choose device in you ES Explorer and go to data then app (or where ever your apk is downloaded.) Long press and select copy. Then click the device option again and go to system > app > paste.

I've got a solution:
Install GPlay Store as mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365224
Then follow this solution:
Backup your Downloads App via Titanium Backup
Download the files attached to my post to your device
Copy the DownloadProvider.apk AND DownloadProviderUi.apk into your /system/app directory
Set the permissions to rw- r-- r-- for both
Reboot your Kindle Fire HD

Alternative Launcher + Backup Launcher

Thanks to @jkchr1s for the steps
I have also attached a backup com.amazonfire launcher just incase soeone messes up.
Working Launcher replacement thanks to @diegocr and @Awesomeslayerg ! Here's the steps:
See @diegocr post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...8&postcount=23 and download "boot-firelauncher.img"
Enable USB debugging
Install your launcher of choice!
On your computer, run
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Once your tablet reboots in to fastboot, run on your computer (if you are not in the same directory as boot-firelauncher.img, put the full path):
Code:
fastboot boot boot-firelauncher.img
Tablet will reboot
Once booted open an adb shell:
Code:
adb shell
To back up the existing app, run:
Code:
cp /system/priv-app/com.amazon.firelauncher/com.amazon.firelauncher.apk /sdcard/Download/com.amazon.firelauncher.apk
Then nuke it!
Code:
rm /system/priv-app/com.amazon.firelauncher/com.amazon.firelauncher.apk
Now, run to restart your device:
Code:
reboot
Confirmed working on my tablet with FireOS 5.0.1.
Enjoy!
If you mess up and your fire dosent have a launcher then download the apk file and adb sideload it once your at the lock screen.
Just wanted to mention can keep the Fire launcher installed without having it forced as default. Follow the above then using a file manager go to where you made a copy of the apk file and install it. It will install and can be used and selected as home or not via the usual home method.
You sir deserve a medal sir! You just saved me 15 € for Netflix and chilling.
or just use Titanium Backup with Pro Key, to Freeze the app
Someone care to explain a bit more? Does this allow us to select a new launcher within system settings making the home button select this launcher?

After removing the default launcher, I moved to Nova launcher and lost access to all the apps I had saved to my SD card via the system settings. Does this have something to do with the firelauncher? Is there a way to re-enable sd card read/write access?

nope, just the FireLauncher, the apps are grayed out in nova, if that means anything.

fixed after forcing a restart of nova, appears to be some kind of issue with the app itself
On another note, do you know any way to re-enable sd card write access?

I found it was easier to download a 2nd launcher (google now/apex/nova) after I gained root access, then backup the com.amazon.firelauncher in the system/priv-app folder to my SD card or outside the priv-app folder using es file browser. Delete the com.amazon.firelauncher folder inside priv-app, restart the tablet then I was asked on reboot to confirm the default launcher.
Thought it may help someone out who doesn't fancy running the commands.
Cheers as this forum has helped me a lot, much appreciated for all the hard working devs!

Anyone noticed that you cant pin widgets to the startscreen?
Everytime i try, it redirects me to the Amazon-Settings app und the widget isnt pinned.
This happens when the widgets are larger than 1x1

How would I convert it to a system app?
I've found https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover&hl=en which works good.
Moved my new apex launcher to system map, reboot was required, then widgets worked with apex launcher which hadn't worked before.
