If you want it that bad, you can use Nova/apex launchers with the touchwiz theme.

Uh, it will take a lot more than a launcher to get multi-window. Maybe the CM team or some uberdev will build a multi-window setup that works. That is about the only thing I want on my N4.

okay why does it matter why he wants to have the touchwiz launcher? You guys are seriously going to question why he wants it like its any of your buisness, he likes touchwiz, its his choice of liking a different os. Its really stupid for you guys to question and put him down with negativity in comments instead of finding a link and if you dont like it? KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELVES. Thanks to those who provided the link.

I was just Googling some touchwiz launcher stuff for N4 and came to this thread.
Your comment is something that I have always wondered here at XDA. If you are in a particular device's forum, it means you are married to that phone and shall not praise/desire features and stuff which other phones have. It isn't like ditching your current device, XDA is all about development, so if someone seeks features from other phones, I think people should help (if you can) rather than criticizing. And when it comes to likings, everyone has his own preferences... who r we really to judge WHY he is liking this.. Why NOT he likes that.. etc etc. I know a lot of people do not like TW but many do. I ask the TW haters, if you don't like TW then what are you doing in this thread? Why replying? Why bother sneaking in? Just mind your own bloody damn business.

If you start making your own distributions of Android behaving in such fundamentally different ways, I suspect we are going to need to start doing things to prevent you from impacting our app ecosystem. I'm not sure what, but I could imagine things such as restricting how users can interact with Market apps on these devices (not allowing reviews or such).
We have let a lot of things in this area slide -- for example to be allowed to include Market on your device you are supposed to fully pass CTS. However, if you start really diverging from the core Android platform (I would argue this takes you well into the realm of a fork rather than a customization) then some deep issues are going to come up about how we handle these custom builds.
We have been putting a lot of thought and work for a number of years into how to let Android applications run on increasingly diverse and dynamic screens. Doing this correctly, without impacting our app developers in a negative way, is a really challenging problem. I also think it is something that needs to be done at the mainline platform level, not as a customization, because doing it right is going to require new well defined interfaces with applications for them to interact with it, possibly starting with just a facility they need to use to opt in to it.

googles (dianne hackborns) response when cyanogenmod was about to merge a multiwindow feature (cornerstone).
if its a smaller cm-fork or rom, cornerstone is open source waiting to be cherry-picked - although discontinued and buggy from what i hear.
can't imagine google is very happy about samsung doing it, but they might be too powerful a foe to upset.
another small observation, dianne herself introduced something like per app dpi to jellybean which seems related, still dormant. we might see it one day implemented as a real feature.

Have you heard something? I never owned something that did not have cool stuff.
One of the problems facing the S model is that Samsung just came out with the Pro model and most of the people who wanted a tablet of this caliber already bought that. If there never had been a Pro model I feel confident we would be getting a lot more activity.
Anyway we already have root and at least the 8.4 guys have a kernel.

Because xda is based wholly on developers doing others favors and not on being compensated in advance to do so. Anyone who enjoys bean's work is free to donate to him after the fact. Xda is a volunteer network, not a marketplace.
Just be patient. We'll get our share of kernels and roms eventually. It's not like the Tab S is a worthless brick without it. For me this performs better than any tablet I've ever owned as is.
Exactly. And it isn't as though you can't get much of what you would want from a custom ROM via Xposed, launchers, and the like.

Exactly. Other than CM, most roms are just themed debloated stock with some Xposed thrown in.
** Edit: I put this badly. What I meant was that roms seem to people like themed debloated stock with some Xposed thrown in. They are not the game changers they used to be when these devices had weak processors and a few hundred extra benchmark points really meant something.
Roms are awesome, but they aren't as vital as they once were.

I have built & released custom ROMs based on Samsung official firmware.
There is a huge amount of work involved to create these ROMs and even more to support them. That's why I quit. ... (Not enough time in the day). I rarely used Xposed except for unsupported DPI changes.
Samsung "stock" ROMs are based on official Samsung firmware.
CM is "stock" ROM based on official Google source.
Based on the above, both CM and Samsung "custom" ROMs are both "stock" and "custom" (as in customised)..... If you customise anything, then it is "custom"
I am sure though that your post doesn't exactly read what you really meant.

Let me clarify. I think I put that badly.
While roms are quite an bit more work than just debloating, theming and using xposed, many of them feel to the user like that was all that was done, especially with these incredibly fast new processors that can overpower and make even not the best code run fast and smooth. I recall years ago when the HTC Evo came out. A good rom could make a HUGE difference in performance. Now take the Note 3. Using a great rom there by Freeza. Sure it's a little better than stock but the improvement isn't nearly as dramatic as in the past.
I guess my overall point is this. The Tab S is such an excellent device that even if if no one ever creates a rom for us, we will still be able to have a fast solid machine. Roms are awesome but they are not the game changers they once were.

I couldn't more then agree with you.
We already got the horse power of the tablet I never over clocked my s4 or note 10.1 because I don't feel the need to. Basically its the New features of other devices I'm curious to try out. that's why note 10.1 (2012) got the file manager from this tab and it's beautiful. A Rom is fast with a good options to choose for the user so he can make it his. Speed isn't anything that's basically needed of course its fun to use the max power but for the love of your tablet be careful. that's why I haven't included anything of these kind of apps.
Also just to mention one app is missing because it didn't deodex successfully. will add it as an optional package.
Again this is just a pure stock deodex rom I don't own this tablet but I decided since i used it for porting and there was no deodexed rom I'd make one. Does anyone know what partition boot image is at?
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Wasn't Xposed designed to give the average user access to customizations they would typically only get in a rom previously? Sort of like a WYSIWYG editor instead of writing out the code by hand? And launchers speed up your experience in many of the ways only roms used to. With root and a decent app anyone can debloat their rig.
So many of the things we used to need roms for we no longer do. Of course roms like CM make a bigger difference but then again you give up some cool functionality. It's like taking the surround sound out of a racecar. Yeah you go faster but you miss your tunes (or split screen as the case may be).
Anyway, for me root and a good kernel are essential. Roms? A luxury but no longer the staple they used to be. That's not to say luxuries aren't nice and I'm sure I'll indulge if a certified developer cooks one up for us, but even if they never do I'm ok. This tablet still rocks.

Same here. There was a workaround for 5.0 but not 5.1.1 yet. And for devs making cm another tw is not in the plan. The problem is not cm, but Samsung and any other companies that build apps for their own build of Android.
Look at play store, almost all apps there are working on any android hardware wise supported phones. Just like they work on cm.
I have a gear 2 and a note 3 running CM12.1. I chose to port Android Wear to the watch and very happy with it, even though the battery life is not as good, the overall watch experience is much better (no speakerphone or camera). Much better notifications, and the available apps seem better.

Take a look at the Gear 2 section on XDA
I just rooted my phone and installed cwm recovery, now I want to flash custom rom, I also want to keep the S Note, Action Memo app. Any suggestions? Sorry I am new to all of these. Thank you in advance for your help.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
As per some rule you can't ask for best ROM/ Kernel suggestion, but I like stock based ROMs, so I use the Deodex version of OF3 ROM, Deodex because I need Xposed. If you don't need that you can use Odex version.
This is the one I use, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/rom-qs-n9005-lp-t3037655
OF3 however is not latest, OGX (X=something) is, but I don't care really. The above ROM doesn't come with a lot of options, just very few features added, but that's what I like, as close as possible to stock ROM. If you don't need Xposed and need a ROM with lots of features then look for AryaMod.

Not true anymore, mods changed it
They even made a front page discussion about people favourite
To advise someone what is the best, Is based on there own experience and opinion.
My own experience may be mainly gaming.....
Or it may be with Business models, Each depends on the type of feedback, result in complete different ROMS....
Can you see where am going with this?
I can answer you question, but only Vague:
S note and Action Memo - Why????
The reason i ask, if you want to keep them, Then you can only go with a TW based ROM. This is the TouchWiz (Samsung ROM)
If you dnot have a valid reason, other than you use them.
The a CM or any AOSP Based ROM, Does not have ANY TouchWiz Feature, For example, the Spen, The Menu, The functions.
But there are additional Apps that are matched in results or in some cases better (As they have been developed on the feedback of the note users)
S-Pen command is an example.
Then you can get addition application like: Fiinote that are just as good as Action Memo, Or EverNote or OneNote.
The LIST Goes one.
My one advise to you, Is to enjoy flashing and try them all, See what grabs your attention, Every person on XDA is different, and this is possibly why one of the rules come in about BEST ROMS.
Its too much optionion based, and everyone has there own option.
I hope this is not a complete pointless post, and helps a little.
But there is no harm in trying, and you will have alot of Fun seeing each developers take on it
Thank you so much @dave7802 for your help. I really appreciate it and it all makes sense. Everybody has own different preference. That is what I am going to do, I will try different roms and see where to stick. Glad I have this XDA app on my phone and receiving info and answers from you guys. Thanks again sir. Cheers!

Okay, that's excellent! I never did like that decision anyway. Thanks for informing mate.
My advice is Audax L. Stock based, reliable, always up the date, all mods which are neccessary and useful, easy flashable with aroma installer and has own costum kernel which is always up the date and really good for performance and battery consuming. Just try it.

Do the non-tw Roms support pressure sensitivity through ie; sketchbook? It's been a long time since an official lollipop update. .
I'm usin' the DarkLord s6 port V2.0 from several weeks as daily driver, it's good and reliable, no problems exept a minor bug with fast notes.

How do you guys stay on TW?
I love it, the features dont get me wrong, Some of them are very nice.
But the speed is notability different coming from using CM for more than 12 months.
Small things like, Notification Status Pull Down, the delay from swiping down, to it appearing is noticeable slow.
App Drawer, open close applications, Accessing menus, All have a delayed response. Multi Tasking loading.
I have tried the following ROMs,
Dark Lord S6 and Note variants.
AryaMod V7.2
Norma Rom
Alliance
The BEST in regards to speed, But still noticeable is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/rom-qs-n9005-lp-t3037655
As another user advised (Thanks)
This is no slander, As i do enjoy touchwiz, But i will admit, i am a speed freak, When i want someone i want it yesterday.

To me CM/AOSP has too many missing UI/UX features, requiring more swipes and clicks for activities I perform. Also, once one has actually grown accustomed to TW, it requires time to learn. If you're busy in your life, you don't want to be non-performing and slow for 2 weeks when learning the ins-and-outs of a new ROM/UI/UX variant.
That's why I have not switched.
I accept the slowness of TW, but it's not too slow for me (and I multi-task a lot).
I'd be willing to try out CM builds, but it seems impossible to find realisting non-fanboy reviews of CM builds on Note3, that detail:
- what real bugs there are (sometimes the small annoying bits in Wifi/BT/sleep/battery can drive one inside, even if 90% of casual users don't notice them)
- what Pen/TW/camera module features does one has to give up when switching to non-Samsung ROM? CM/AOSP ROMs will always be missing Samsung libs, apps and as such many hardware supported features due to their generic nature. I have not seen an honest list that just lists all the missing features from Note3 CM/AOSP roms, without resorting to "nobody uses that feature anyway, so I didn't list it" type of comments.
Just backing up, cleaning up, flashing, re-installing, re-merging apps and data is so much work (full work day for me) that I just don't have time for that, unless I know what kind of deep doo-doo I'm going to end up with.
This, imho, is one of the reasons preventing some users from switching over, but yes, Samsung's "we are too lazy to update Note 3" policy is really pushing me towards CM builds
BTW, to not be totally off-topic I'm using DarkLord 5.0.2 build and it is so-so. Sometimes it lags badly. Sometimes it closes background apps by itself (way too fast, even with no huge multitasking). I'd like to get it patched and update to 5.1.1. but until Samsung releases the 5.1.1 ROM for Note 3, no such luck.
How do I stay on TW?
The simple answer is, I bought a Note 3, there are quite a lot of micro/ small things which make it a Note, and as long as I want to use a Note phone like a Note phone, I would use TouchWiz, end of story.
I am a professional. I need quite a lot of things. If I were a kid with no life other than to show off to friends hey look I have the latest version of Android, do you have it?, and take pride in that, probably I would go the AOSP route. Thank me that I can't be one of those low IQ people! If you don't have the brain to process what's good/ complete and what's pathetic/ half baked nonsense, then anything which comes with a decent enough packing will look good to you.

Hi, just wondering what's up. I'd kill for CM12 or 13 on my brand new a5 2016.. what gives?
thanks!
We waited more than a year for the A5 2015 edition to get roms, and there are only about 2 serious developers working on it. It is likely that you will get very little to zero support for your phone, even less if you have the Exynos variant. If you want big custom rom support, buy a flagship or a Nexus. That is the best thing you can do. And what I have realised is before you buy a new phone, first search the XDA forums to see which is more popular and which have the most support.

I've always used CM or CM-based custom roms on all my phones, but (never thought I would say this) I'm quite liking TouchWiz. Everything works, no bugs. Good stock apps like calendar, camera and email. Theme engine is good enough. Unbelievable battery life.
Just root, install xposed, and you're good.
